Kate's Date with 007, Updates on James Middleton's Wedding & A Girl for Princess Beatrice

I think you'll agree it's been far too long since the Duchess had an evening gown appearance. If memory serves, it's been about eighteen months -- an evening in support of Place2Be in March 2020 -- just days before the pandemic began to rapidly change our lives. Kate opted for a repeat in the beautiful sapphire blue Jenny Packham gown she first wore for a Bollywood Gala in India in 2016.

The drought in royal evening looks will be remedied in style on Tuesday 28 September, when the Cambridges, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall walk the red carpet for the glamorous premiere of Daniel Craig's last outing as 007 -- No Time to Die

The royals will meet a host of stars including Daniel Craig, Léa Seydoux, Rami Malek and Lashana Lynch, and also screenwriters Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “No Time to Die” song performers Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell will also attend. The event will benefit charities supporting serving and former members of intelligence agencies and charities supporting the special forces.

It will be Kate's second date with 007. In 2015, she met Daniel Craig at the premiere of his fourth outing, SPECTRE.

Kate chose a flowing duck egg blue bespoke gown by Jenny Packham for the premiere. It featured sheer sleeves, a glittering belt and sheer overlay.

Teamed with her Packham Casa clutch and Jimmy Choo Vamp sandals, it was an elegant look.

The Duchess borrowed a pair of striking earrings from her mother Carole for the night. The Robinson Pelham pagoda earrings set with blue topaz and diamonds were worn by Mrs Middleton for the royal wedding reception in 2011.

What might the Duchess wear next week? It's always fun to speculate and cast an eye over a selection of fabulous gowns. The Queen of Eveningwear, Jenny Packham has created some unforgettable looks for Kate over the years. Her recent offerings would make a wonderful addition. The Ursula cape-effect gown is a timeless and understated choice, and would work beautifully with a pair of statement earrings.

A Bond premiere is one of the most star-studded red carpet events. Should the Duchess be in the market for a show-stopper, Packham's glittering Elizabeth cape gown more than fulfills the brief. Described as "intricately embellished with crystals, sequins and beads that'll twinkle in the light. It's cut from layers of frothy tulle and has a stunning cape-effect silhouette that falls to a floor-sweeping hem".

Of course, Sarah Burton can always be relied upon for impeccable tailoring and a flawless finish. The McQueen Embellished Backless Gown with structured tailoring is exquisite.

Crystals and pearls adorn the garment.

The above gown reminds could be the perfect night to bring this classic Alexander McQueen back (with dazzling jewels).

We've seen Kate in several Oscar de la Renta pieces. I do hope she adds at least one of these gowns to her rotation.

I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions. It should be a fabulous night, the event beginning at 7 pm.

Congratulations are very much in order following the announcement Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mappeli Mozzi welcomed a daughter on Saturday 18 September.

The Princess shared her "delight" at news of the safe arrival via her Twitter account.

The announcement in full from Buckingham Palace:

'Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.

The baby weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces.

The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf.'

A number of you have been in touch regarding James Middleton and Alizée Thevenet's wedding photos. Following the Instagram release of one snap, an array of images from the big day appear exclusively in this week's Hello! magazine. The publication is making a donation to James's charity, Pets as Therapy, in exchange for the exclusive. The spread doesn't include images of the Cambridge family.

Among the titbits shared: Alizée's Bardot neckline wedding gown was in fact her mother-in-law Carole Middleton's. Financial analyst Alizée told Hello!: "My something borrowed was in fact my dress from my mother-in-law Carole, who last wore it 41 years ago on her wedding day in June, 1980. While talking about dresses with Carole and sharing ideas during lockdown for inspiration, I tried on her wedding dress and fell in love with it." Alizée added: "It always troubled me that wedding dresses are only worn once, so it was amazing to give such a beautiful dress a second lease of life."

The absence of Alizée's father, Jean Gabriel Thevene, who passed away in April, will have been felt on the day. More from the Daily Mail:

'Her father died just months before the ceremony which had to be postponed twice due to Covid.

Friends say it meant the newlyweds' big day was a joyful occasion tinged with some sadness because retired diplomat Jean Gabriel Thevenet could not be there to walk Alizee down the aisle.

By the time they were finally able tie the the knot in the village of Bormes-les-Mimosas near the Cote d'Azur on Saturday it was too late for Mr Thevenet. It is not know what he died from.

'Jean Gabriel would have loved to be there on Alizee's special day. It is so sad that Laurence had to go to the wedding on her own,' added the friend.'

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show annual royal preview took place earlier this evening. It was attended by a number of royals, and though I thought it a likely engagement for the Duchess, she wasn't in attendance. I do expect embargoed engagements are scheduled for this week, and we'll hear something over the next day or two.

  1. I also hope she recycles her Alexander McQueen dress from 2011. I think it’s lovely that Alizée wore her mother in law’s dress for the wedding. I also like how they included the dogs in the wedding party. Congratulations to Beatrice and Edo. Wow 4 Royal babies this year. Two boys and now two girls.

    1. I agree , McQueen dress would be lovely !

    2. And Pippa's baby too 🙂

  2. The wedding dress of the new Mrs Middleton, look great. I read it was Kate's Mother's dress. Alizee looked very nice.I wish the Newlyweds the best for their future. I am over the moon for Pss Beatrice and husband Edo on the occasion of the birth of the little baby girl. Hope we'll get the name and a ton of photos very soon. nothing but HAPPINESS all around.

  3. Much respect to James and Alizee is due, along with admiration. There would be the financial means to have an over the top wedding. Instead they opted for a minimal number of guests and little fanfare. What a beautiful dress that Carole once wore and how fine it looks on her daughter in law. I'd say the repeat wear of this dress indicates the bond of love between the two women. This event showed that the marriage is more important than the wedding.

  4. Oh I didn't know about Alizee's father! So sad. She was gorgeous, and I love the sentiment and the look of the dress. James looks very dashing. Wish them all the happiness.

So glad for another dress event on the calendar. The center Robin's Egg blue Oscar de la Renta would be lovely or the first Ursula piece, which is stunning but I feel is a bit fashion-forward for Catherine.

  5. very happy for Beatrice! glad to see Alizee used a recycle dress she looks lovely with it sad her dad could not be with her on her special day

  6. Four royal babies to christen -- Having lovely thoughts of tons of photos with the Queen in each one! That blue gown is just gorgeous and is perfect for Kate! Having said that, those suggested gowns are amazing!! I would love to see one royal woman wear just one of those. Wow.

  7. Thank you Charlotte for your wonderful posts. Gosh, all the gowns you mentioned are just lovely. I think my favorite would be the McQueen Embellished Backless Gown. It’s just stunning! I have fingers crossed she’ll be wearing it 🤞🏻 I’m sure though whatever she’ll choose will be lovely.

    1. I'm with you, Joanne - that dress is breathtaking!! 🤩

  8. Can we have a suggestion post with dress suggestions? Love the Jenny Packham Penelope, reminds me of one she wore.

  9. I was so interested to read about Alizee's wedding dress being the one Carole wore 41 years ago. I had noted that it's style was very nearly identical to a mint green one I had worn as a bridesmaid for a friend 43 years ago and had simply assumed that it was a style repeating itself all these years later. It's so much better than that - her choosing to re-wear the dress speaks to the value of simplicity that seems to have been an overarching consideration of the wedding, and perhaps more importantly, to the affection felt between Alizee and Carole.

Charlotte - you have chosen several gorgeous gown possibilities for Kate's next evening out. After so many months of exhaustion, loss and grief for the world , It will be lovely to enjoy something a little frivolous!

  10. Wonderful baby news for Beatrice and Edoardo. Will love to hear her name. James Middleton and Alizees wedding looked like a lovely occasion. She looked gorgeous in the dress, the style really worked on her and for the setting. I love it when wedding dresses can be re used, Carol must have take good care of hers over the years, it looked pristine. Excited to see William and Catherine at the Bond "gala" will be fun to see what she wears. Too many choices for me to pick a favorite.

    Okay, SO MUCH to say!
    1. Congrats to Bea and Edo on their new baby girl!
    2. I love this game! I love the first and third Oscar De La Renta gowns! The third one is wowowow!
    3. I think it is so touching that Alizee wore Carole's wedding dress. I love that she wore it, but MORE that Carole let her. Carole Middleton is probably one of my most respected people. She raised wonderful children, is a hands-on grandma and judging by her long marriage, seems to be successful at that too. What struck me most about her was a quote in an article. She basically said that Kate and William weren't her only children. It was said in a way that she meant, just because they're royal, they are still just her children, like all of her children. She's a woman who knows we all put on our pant legs one at a time, royal title or not. LOVE her.

    1. I agree. I think the fact that Alizee wore Carole's gown speaks volumes about both ladies and this sweet and close family. And it looks perfect on her. She looks like a beautiful nature girl.

  12. I like to see Kate recycle gowns she always 😘 looks beautiful.

  13. I think the most touching here is new Mrs. Middleton wearing her mother-in-law's dress. Both the dress and the bride look charming.

  14. Wow will see the duchess again in regal gowns again Mrs Middleton tribute to her mother in law. Is so sweet and touching
