The images were taken by royal photographer Chris Jackson, a firm favourite of the Cambridges. He has been commissioned to take private family photos for the royals before, including Prince George's first day of school. He is married to Kate's assistant Natasha Archer. I love the navy/white colour coordination between the group.
The photos capture wonderful 'moments' of Charles holding George on his knee, Camilla with her arm around Charlotte and of course our first proper look at adorable Louis since the christening. Those Cambridge cheeks :)
Rebecca English reports Louis wore the £72 Carlina Boy Ceremony Set from La Coqueta. Made in Spain, it is described as: "This ceremony set has us dreaming of garden parties and reasons to dress up. What makes the Carlina boy ceremony set exceptional is its simplicity - crisp white cotton with peter pan collar, and dusty blue hand-stitched smock detailing."
In the post for the christening, I wrote that I thought Louis favours his mother. Now he's a little older, I'm convinced that's the case. Looking at the children, George reminds me so much of Michael Middleton, Charlotte of the Queen and Louis of Kate.
We had a teaser from the shoot on Thursday when a photo of Kate holding Louis and Charles was shared as part of a BBC documentary marking the Prince of Wales' birthday. The image made the cover of this week's Hello! magazine.
In an interview with the Telegraph, the Duchess of Cornwall revealed more about the photoshoot:
"He’s wonderful with children. He doesn’t mind crawling about on the floor for hours with them. We had a picture the other day with Louis pulling on his hair, and he’s not one of those people who says ‘take your hand away’. He loves it. He’s exceptionally good with very small children and babies."
To mark the birthday, Charles allowed unprecedented access as he opened his homes, Clarence House and Highgrove, to Google's Street View. Viewers can take a 'virtual tour' of several rooms at the residences, affording a detailed look at art, furnishings and interiors. Click here to take a tour of Clarence House.
It also offered a closer look at family photographs on display including a previously unseen portrait of Charles holding George at his christening in 2013. Wishing the Prince of Wales a very Happy Birthday!
Kate wore the Alessandra Rich Pleated polka-dot silk crepe de chine midi dress. The £1,225 piece is described: "Alessandra Rich was inspired by Alfred Eisenstaedt's 1945 photograph of a sailor kissing a stranger in Times Square for her Spring '18 collection. Capturing the essence of that iconic moment, this vintage-inspired dress is cut from polka-dot silk crepe de chine that falls to a pleated midi skirt." As several of you noted, Abigail Spencer wore the dress to the royal wedding in May.
Kate accessorised with her sapphire and diamond earrings.
We have a very busy royal day tomorrow. William and Kate will visit South Yorkshire. In Rotherham they will officially open McLaren Automotive’s new Composites Technology Centre before travelling to Barnsley’s local Centrepoint hostel. After lunch, the Duke and Duchess will visit Centrepoint’s new Andy Norman Learning Hub. That evening, it's back to London for Prince Charles' birthday party at Buckingham Palace. A host of European royals are attending the glittering event. Hopefully a portrait or two will be released from the night.

Absolutely adorable photos! Happy birthday, Prince Charles.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Love love love! All of it! So perfect! Relaxed but regal. The colour coordination while still showing their own styles. And best of all, the wonderful, wonderful children! So happy we got these pictures!!
ReplyDeleteRegal but relaxed. Good description, Rebecca.
DeletePerhaps this is the closest the BRF has come to the style of European royals.
This is wonderful. They all look like having lots of fun, and all the Royal ladies look lovely. Louis looks to be quite the charmer.
ReplyDeleteWhat truly beautiful photos Kate looks wonderful, so contented. I love her dress. The the whole family look so happy. It is so exciting to see Prince Louis, all three children are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteOMG !Photos can 't be beautiful. They simply fulfilled my every dreams -Grandpa Wales with grandchildren, closer look at Louise, informal and relaxing backdrop.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos. It shows they are a family, even with the trappings of royalty.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous photos! The whole family looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteKate and William appear to have done a great job with their kids, no surprise. Seems like Kate got married yesterday and now she has three children. Time flies!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are Great 😍! For me, it's : George / micheal middleton, Charlotte / Carole Middleton, Louis / Kate. And George so grown up!
ReplyDeleteI think George is a combination of William and Michael, but I do agree about Charlotte and Louis. :-)
DeleteI agree I’ve always thought that Charlotte looks more like Carole than the Queen.
DeleteHappy Birthday 🎂 Prince Charles beautiful family, love seeing these pictures.
ReplyDeleteNice photos! And wow does Louis take after Kate. I think both Charlotte and George favor William more in terms of face but Louis is a Kate mini-me.
ReplyDeleteI also am relieved that a more informal photo was released. The christening photos were so sepia-toned and with a Victorian look in mind that that was my only image of Louis. It's great to see him as a regular baby.
Very cute photos. I can not say for sure who any of the kids look like as I change my mind regularly. Recently I find that Charlotte favors Michael Middleton, George looks like William and Louis??? No idea:).
ReplyDeleteLouis looks like a right chubby baby. And a smiling one. Especially love the one photo where Camilla is forming the "heart" symbol with her hands.
ReplyDeleteI adore how chubby Louis is! I want to pinch him lol
DeleteI do too, Molly, she does it very discreetly , though , and with that little smile saying - I do it , will you see it ? I would have loved to see baby Louis in Charles’ s arms !
DeleteThose cheeks!
ReplyDeleteI want to pinch his cheeks, too! :P
DeleteThese are lovely! Professional and formal enough to be ‘official’ but also, very real and showing all the personality and feels that everyone wants to see from the family! The color combo is great, coordinated but not matchy. And I love the photo of everyone laughing!
ReplyDeleteI wish that Meghan had worn an outfit that coordinated with the rest of the family. The bare sleeves and black trim look so jarring in comparison to the lovely shades of blue and cream being worn by the rest of her husband’s family.
DeleteThe photo of everyone laughing is a gem! :)
DeleteOh, I think Meghan coordinates perfectly. The kids all have white in their outfits and Kate’s collar is white. I think the outfits as a whole are true to each individual’s personality and I love that.
DeleteDoes anyone else think Charlotte actually looks very like Pippa?
ReplyDeleteShe looks just like Pippa.
DeleteI see Carole. :-)
DeleteYES!!
DeleteYes I definitely think she looks like Pippa. Her face shape is similar.
DeleteYes I do - carbon copy of Pippa.
DeleteYes, I’ve always thought Charlotte looks more like a Middleton. Especially the shape of the eyes/brows.
DeleteMy mother & I both think she resembles Pippa - her expression & her eyes!
DeleteOh my goodness - what fabulous photos! What joy in everyone's faces! :o)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Charlotte...Louis is the spitting image of his mom. Thank you so much for your spectacular work on your blogs. KP should really have you on staff!
Yes, Louis does look a lot like Kate. It is early days yet; however, it looks like he will be strikingly handsome. I just love Harry's look: like the cat who ate the Canary!!! He seems over the moon: as well he should, newly married and a baby on the way...
ReplyDeleteThanks Charlotte for this update.
Cheers.
Rw.
Love your comment, Rw! I think Louis will be a looker one day...all of the Cambridge children are charming :)
DeleteLove!
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of style I love to see Kate in -- she looks fresh and comfortable and so pretty. Nothing like those stiff and dowdy looks she's been pulling together for her work engagements (with exceptions, of course!). I will always love her hair down -- I will continue to advocate for an end of that horrid chignon!!!
ReplyDeleteLouis is Kate's twin. It's so amazing to see just how much he looks like her. George was always inbetween, and Charlotte looks so much like the Windsor side, but Louis is basically Kate in little baby boy form! George is so tall and lanky, now. I love his little smile. And Meghan makes such a nice addition to the whole family.
I just took the tour of Clarence House -- what an eye-boggling place! So much decoration and art and family history all in one place. There were quite a few family photos in each room that were fun to see, as some of them hadn't been officially released.
ReplyDeletein the more 'serious' photo of everyone, I love that Louis is being 'squirmy baby' and Catherine is holding on tight. Maybe he has great-grandpa Phillip's feeling that this is enough of this photograph thing.
ReplyDeleteLol re. Louis having a Prince Philip moment 😂
DeleteHehe. =)
DeleteHappy 70th birthday to the Prince of Wales! The family photos are wonderful, superb work by Chris Jackson.
ReplyDeleteWow! Kate looks so happy and proud! I love that we're finally seeing a clear picture of Louis. I like how different he looks to George and Charlotte (who were nearly identical when they were babies).
ReplyDeleteThe left side of the picture looks a little crowded, I wish DoC and Charlotte had switched spots with Charles and George. It would've looked more "balanced" and less danger of DoC's and DoS's dresses bleeding into each other but I'm assuming the placement was deliberate (Charles with his two heirs next to each other).
Not a fan of Harry and William twinning but it doesn't seem like they had much choice (plus, we know they love their blue suits!) My favorite outfit is the Duchess of Cornwall. She always looks great in white and the cut and style are perfect.
What glorious pictures. Everyone looks beautiful, and happy. Happy Birthday to Prince Charles.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Prince Charles! I’m loving these family photos so much. Kate’s dress is lovely, but the different panels in the middle confuse me a bit. The children are adorable, it’s nice to see them with their Granddad! Prince Louis looks like a scream, I’m looking forward to future antics from him! He does look like Kate.
ReplyDeleteImportantly, they all look happy and tanned and I wish them all the best for the celebrations ahead.
Hmm love love the family photos adrorable photos Everyone is relaxed and matchy
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Prince Charles. I love the group photos they all look so happy and the kids darling. I adore Kate's dress!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Charlotte
The family photos are great! It's so nice to see Harry with his wife in the pictures and next year there will be another baby! Yay! It seems like we have seen Charlotte in that blue dress several times. I know she is growing so maybe the same dress was bought in several sizes. I would like to see her in something different than a dress with a smocked top with tights and shoes. I am fine with dresses, but I would like to see some different styles. Just a little nit pick of mine. I wish Prince Charles a very happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteRoyal children are always dressed in classic & traditional style in a timeless fashion that will hold-up in photos over the years. I do hope that this will be one tradition that Meghan upholds; it would be a shame to see her little one in trendy outfits like those young Kardashians wear.
DeleteI agree, Anon 11.18.
DeleteWhat wonderful pictures! I definitely thought of the baby kate pictures floating around the internet when I saw Louis in these pictures haha. To me, George is definitely middleton except his Windsor coloring, while Charlotte is windsor except HER coloring which is Middleton, but Louis looks very Middleton/Kate in every way. Though I can never decide if I think Charlotte looks more like the Queen or Pippa.speaking of which, am I the only one who would love to see Charlotte in any dress other than this light blue style :P not a big deal or any kind of deal at all, but she must have other clothes haha. It was lovely to see her in some different (and also more modern!) dresses in the polo pictures or the paparazzi picture of her with her mother and nanny with Louis in the stroller (I think from soon after Louis was born). Again, not actually something that that matters, just a random thought I had looking at these (still nothing but fantastic) pictures. Also wouldn't it be great if we got something like this just once every yr, like the Swedish royals or really most other European royals? So nice to see the whole Wales family together.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you back Maggie - wishing you good luck with your treatments - you are an amazingly brave woman.
DeleteWelcome back, Maggie! May you continue to recover, and join us often.
DeleteThat would be wonderful, if we could get more of these kinds of shots maybe even every 6 months or so?! on the blue dress note, I think she wore a red dress once on a tour:) stay strong Maggie!!
DeleteIt’s great to see you commenting again, Maggie! I would also like to see Charlotte dressed in a different outfit - how many times has she worn this similar blue dress? lol
DeleteSuch a sweet picture!!! Love it very much!! Louis is the image of baby Kate, Charlotte is a mini Pippa and George is a mix of them all!! God bless them!!
ReplyDeleteDarling!!! What a beautiful family! Thank you Charlotte!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do I see a birthmark or nasty scratch above Prince Louis’ right eyebrow?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Charlotte for posting this beautiful family portrait. Everyone looks lovely and happy.
ReplyDeleteAfter all of the pain and drama of their earlier years, look at them all settled and paired with someone they love, and happy and loved children that are going to carry this family into the future... how often do lives take such happy turns? I love every bit of it! And I must say that sometimes I see just the hint and flash of Diana in George.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos! They all look so comfortable and happy. Nice to see Charles and Camilla joking at ease with the children. I enjoyed the tour in Clarence House so much! Happy birthday Prince Charles!
ReplyDeleteLove this Foto 💕 even more the one where they laugh about something. Prince Louis is a copy of Kate!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! Thank you, Charlotte. I'm sure Charles loves having the little ones around. Kate looks wonderful and the kids are so cute. I wonder what they were looking at and laughing about in the 1st picture! I'd love to imagine a curious squirrel or a bird coming near! 🐿🐦
ReplyDeleteCharming photos - I might have placed Charlotte in the middle but no matter. It does make me think of Diana's absence here but that's life.
ReplyDeleteI wondered if she was supposed to be on Camilla's lap but then was not into it? in the second photo its almost as if Camilla is turned partly so that charlotte is not behind her on the bench. I also thought of diana, but I have that problem in my family too, my mother died a few days after di and no matter how long you still feel the absence, family photo or no.
DeleteYes, Julia, it's difficult to not think of Diana and all that she has missed in her sons' and grandchildren's lives.
DeleteSimply gorgeous!!! Love the relaxed feel - Prince George's expression in the first is just adorable!
ReplyDeleteA few people have commented that they think Kate looks more confident, regal, elegant etc since the birth of Prince Louis. I haven't really been able to see that at recent events, but these photos and the sneak peak at today's engagements - I can totally see it. I actually think she looks younger! And just really happy :)
Lovely photos, but the wistful in me can't help but think Diana should be there. How she would adore her grandchildren! That said, everyone looks happy.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos and what the ladies are wearing. And I'll repeat what I've commented before - Louis looks so much like Kate did as a baby. And although I know Camilla is not technically a beauty, she always looks great, and especially here in these photos. And everyone looks so happy!
ReplyDeleteThe only negative thing I have to say is that I don't really like the composition of the photo - who is standing where. It seems unbalanced...four people (4 heads) crammed into the left side of the photo, and on the right side only 2 people whose heads are far apart due to Charlotte's small size and being seated, and her head far below Meghan's. It gives the impression of Meghan being quite prominent and Kate being hidden. I know they likely wanted to have Williams closes to Charles, though. Maybe if he had held Louis instead of Kate...
as to the composition - I think it would have worked if charlotte was on camillas lap and Charles and Camilla were centered on the bench, would have balanced it right out and then Charles would have not have been so in front of kate and louis and Camilla would have been in that gaping whole in front of meghan. I think it seems that charlotte was a no go on lap sitting and ended up at the edge of the bench instead? thoughts?
DeleteWhat nice pictures. I agree with those who said this should be an annual photo event.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are adorable and Prince Louis really looks like his mother! I saw a photoset on IG with this photo and one of baby Kate..there’s a solid resemblance, mostly in the eyes-eyebrows part of the face.
ReplyDeleteOur Duchess looks wonderful as usual.
Adults in dark blue, children in coordinating light blue. A splendid family photo... just the kind we all hope to get during our own set of holidays here in the US over the next month. Special moment for Prince Charles and his family...forever captured. God bless them all.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I think the look is a huge miss. Very frumpy. I don’t see what she likes about those buttoned up dresses. It ages her a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are a nice treat. I think they should release way more photos like that. Especially as in circumstances like this they can closely control what goes out. And that seems to be incredible important to Wiliam and Harry.
C.
Love it! Beautiful family picture!
