We're back with the latest news updates, taking a look at what William and Kate have been up to this week, and we have an exciting giveaway from Claudia Bradby.
First, Kate will join William and Harry on Saturday for the England versus Wales match at Twickenham. It was very much expected the royal trio would be in attendance for this game and it promises to be a night of friendly competition with William supporting Wales and Harry cheering on England.
More from People's story:
'The royal couple is also set to join Harry, 31, at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday for the England versus Wales rugby match (watch for the couple's rendition of the Wales team's national anthem, sung in Welsh!) For the brothers, it is a fun sporting rivalry as William is the Vice Royal Patron of Wales' team, while Harry is the equivalent for England.'
Kick off is at 8 pm, and following Friday's appearance at the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony, Saturday's match is thought to be the second of several the Duchess will attend.
We have one other update regarding upcoming events. Simon Perry's story also notes William and Kate's participation in the upcoming state visit.
'Then, on the horizon, there is Chinese President’s State Visit to London next month, which Will and Kate are expected to help host alongside the Queen.'
Gert's Royals and Royal Musing noted via Twitter the state banquet will take place on Tuesday, 20 October.

Household Division |
An overview of the day's proceedings from the Household Division website:
'Visits normally begin with a ceremonial welcome attended by The Queen and other senior members of the Royal Family. If the guest is staying at Buckingham Palace, the welcome takes place on Horse Guards Parade.
After inspecting a guard of honour, the visiting President or Monarch then travels with The Queen in a Carriage Procession back to Buckingham Palace.
On the evening of the arrival day, the Head of State will attend a State Banquet in his or her honour.'
The Palace has not yet confirmed who will be attending the banquet, however, it is very much expected we'll see William and Kate there. October is shaping up to be an interesting month with the banquet on the 20th, the Spectre premiere on the 26th, a trip to Scotland, a BAFTA event and other, as yet, unannounced engagements.

What have William and Kate been up to this week? Kate was spotted out and about in London and did a spot of shopping at The White Company. It's been a favourite haunt of Kate's for years thanks to the brand's collection of impeccably stylish and contemporary pieces. From clothing and bed linen to beautifully scented candles and gifts, there's an abundance of choice.

Meanwhile, Prince William has been carrying out several engagements. Yesterday, the Princes joined forces and donned personalised hardhats as they joined the BBC's DIY SOS team in Manchester to help turn a street with derelict houses into homes for ex-service personnel.

More from the Cambridges' official website:
'Over the past few weeks The Big Build: Veteran's Special have been renovating eight buildings, streetscaped an entire street and rejuvenating the façade of 62 houses to create the basis of a new mixed community for service personnel making the transition to civilian life, as well as for long-standing residents.
The re-development has also created a support centre on the street, run by Walking with the Wounded and the Royal British Legion to assist ex-servicemen and women with retraining and on-site support for those who have been injured – mentally or physically – while in the Armed Forces.
Servicemen and women who have made great personal sacrifices for our country deserve healthy, dignified, and successful post-military lives. Yet ex-service personnel account for a large percentage of the homeless in Britain. At the same time, there are currently over half a million empty properties in England. For this project, 26 houses out of the 64 on two streets have been gifted to Haig Housing, which runs housing schemes specifically for veterans'
During the visit, William, Harry and the team of builders and volunteers helped with the final stages of the project. The Duke and Prince Harry also met the street's existing residents and members of all the organisations who have contributed to the DIY SOS team's most ambitious project to date. The DIY SOS: The Big Build veteran’s special will be aired on BBC One at 9pm on 14th and 21st October 2015.

Marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, William took to the skies during a visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The Prince met with Second World War veterans before taking the front seat in a Chipmunk training aircraft.

Perhaps William's most written-about public appearance over the past week was his visit to Hammersmith Academy in support of an anti-bullying campaign run by an organisation set up in memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

During the visit, William was asked to name five people he would speak to if bullied or in times of difficulty. He listed Kate, Harry, the Queen, Prince Philip and Charles. He also mentioned Lupo!

At this time of year, with schools reopening recently, it's very sad to see statistics revealing a third of young people worry about going back to school because of bullying. More on William's visit from Kensington Palace:
'During his visit The Duke of Cambridge joined more than 50 young people from across London taking part in a training session focused on support networks, cyber-bullying and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) bullying issues.
He watched as the ambassadors were taught to recognise signs of bullying and how they can encourage victims to seek help and speak out about their concerns.'

Next, a word on the Ralph Lauren Silk Austin Shirtdress Kate wore to the Anna Freud Centre last week.
There was some chatter on social media about the availability of the dress given the fact we're used to seeing items worn by the Duchess sell out in a matter of minutes. I think the fact this particular garment hasn't sold out is clearly due to its price point. $1595 for a shirtdress is incredibly expensive, especially given the number of chic alternatives available on the high street. I imagine it's a piece we'll see Kate wear publicly a few times in the future given its classic style and silhouette. For those interested, the dress remains available at Ralph Lauren and Neiman Marcus in most sizes.

LOL
DeleteThank you :)
I really like the rose quartz and silver set! I signed up for the newsletter! I had already liked and followed Claudia Bradby social media sites. Great post and love these fun giveaways!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to seeing much more of William and Kate this next month! A tiara event plus a tour plus a fancy BAFTA event. This sounds like several busloads of events!
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the necklace Kate helped design.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for the newsletter and like Claudia Bradby on FB and Pinterest.

I love the Bedruthan Silver Coin pearl necklace. I'm also signed up for Claudia Bradbry emails.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, my favourite piece are, of course, the Biography Pearl Drop Earrings! They resemble Kate's go to earrings :)
ReplyDeleteA banquet on the 20th, a première on the 26th, a trip to Scotland and a BAFTA event, any charity work Kate? You haven't done a public event for one of your charities in a long time, if something for them is announced I will be fine with Kate going to rugby and the BAFTAs but at the moment these fun events are all she seems to care about. You have had your maternity leave since May, its time to do some meaningful work.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the post, I really love your blog but its getting to the point now where I'm tired of reading about such an uninspiring person, which is disappointing as I loved her at the start.
Rebecca
I have always wanted to add this to a comment such as Rebecca's- We don't know what HRH does with her time, she always seems to be on top of it when she visits a charity of hers or Williams- there must be a lot of background information to learn. I just think it should also be taken into consideration that HRH has 'homework' and when she is a full time royal, it will only increase. Also, I think its good for the 'firm' to see both William & Kate out at these functions- showing support. Just random thoughts certainly not meant to offend. Thank you.
DeleteRebecca If you don't know part of Kate's job is to support her husband. And she is doing juist that by attending the rugby matches. You see William is a patron to the Wales team. He need's to be present, so is Kate by his side.
DeleteFuture more William is president of the BAFTAs so again she will be by his side. And the trip top Scotland is offical royal business. So I don't know why you have to be so hard on Kate. She is doing her part as asuppoetive wife to the future king.
I disagree. I don't think there is much background to learn. Her role is to be polite and ask questions so that folks can tell her about their work. She listens to the experts, she doesn't become one herself beforehand. These visits are very heavily programmed - the people she meets are picked ahead of time, her staff and the organization consult and make the arrangements. Of course she is briefed about the event so she knows how her hour - hour and a half - time will be spent. Sports matches, Movies premieres, BAFTA events don't require preparation. The State Dinner isn't about Kate - its about the Queen and the Prime Minister and the Foreign Office. She'll be expected to know the names of the Chinese guests and pretty much everyone else will be government officials and British High Society.
DeleteI think she spends her time playing with her kids, working out, shopping, hanging out with family, hosting dinner parties and getting together with friends at their places, planning vacations and attending to hobbies.
I must agree with Anon.
DeleteI hope we are gonna see some substance too. But it is awfully quiet. Their PR team raised hopes again and we fell on flat ground, I am afraid.
On the other hand, William became more active, I hope it is not only a flame or a reaction to Kate Nicholls' article the other day. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that he can share his time between royal duties and his work. But considering this article and what he projects, made me think.
I must praise Harry who is not afraid that his hands become dirty at all. Love his attitude and personality!
I don't think I am being hard on Kate its been 4 and a half years and she hasn't done anything, I know that she has had her children and as the second in line to the throne her and William should have some time to be normal, but I think the time for that is over, anything could happen to the Queen or Charles and she and William are totally unprepared for life as a full time royal/prince and princess of Wales. When I look at them I don't see royals doing their duty to their country, I see celebrities attending fun events. And this is from someone who was a huge fan! They need to be careful before they lose their support. I agree Harry does wonderful work, and I would love to see him take William's place, but sadly that ain't going to happen.
DeleteRebecca
Well I guess today's visit to the prison concerning addiction indicates that we really do not know how her time is spent unless many here are part of her household her staff. Lets not forget, if it was not for Kate this blog and multiple others would not exist and we would not have a comment section filled with sometimes informative, sometimes humorous, sometimes opinionated, sometimes sarcastic and most the time entertaining content. Also I am sure that seeing posters are dotted all over the globe, many would not be aware of the jewellery of Claudia Bradby. So surely it is not all bad. I for one am pleased that she and William are taking the time to nurture their family and progress slowly to their full royal status.
DeleteI see HRH is out and about today at the prison for women- looking stunning as usual. WORKING!
Deletei think Kate needs to take her charity work to the next level: pick a cause that she really believes in, and then gather some advisors and form an action plan to really make a difference in that particular area. Such as Diana did with land mines, or Michelle Obama did with childhood obesity. Many of our First Ladies have adopted a pet cause, and used the tremendous resources available to them to bring national attention to it. Another First Lady focused on literacy.
DeleteKate already has expressed interest in mental health, an issue that could benefit greatly from her attention. It is a real problem in the states, and I would imagine in the UK too. With Kates star power and and a good team around her, she could have great success.
Always, Deliah? I've just seen your name appear here! You must have just been reading and thinking about commenting, then.
DeleteI agree with everyone else. However, Kate just went to a jail. A secret visit, which seems odd as there were photos and Kate was dressed to the nines. I suspect more of an unannounced visit due to security issues.
Aren't all of us married people supportive of our spouses? Sometimes we attend functions with them and sometimes we don't. But to call it "part of her job" means nothing. It's part of all our jobs as married people!
DeleteWell I guess the team was correct. In case you missed it Kate was out today at charity RAPt.
DeleteHarry just spent these past 4 months in Africa doing what? I am sure he was "working" as well. However, if you don't think Kate has been "working" over the last 4 months you have never been a mother of a newborn and a toddler!
Take a look at this morning's news. Kate going to a prison. There is a lot of stuff that goes on that we have no idea about.
DeleteKate made a visit to a prison today. So would you care to revise your comment? You have no idea the planning--on both ends--that has to take place. Nor do you know about the private things Kate does.
DeleteWell she made an unannounced visit to a PRISON this morning. Meeting with inmates with addiction issues. I suspect she does more behind the scenes at this time. She is a support for William at this time. When he becomes the heir ie Prince of Wales she will step up her duties. I love to see her as much as the next person but sometimes I think we compare her to Diana far too much. Diana was the wife of the first in line. Her role demanded she be out front. In addition Diana kept herself busy some to escape an unhappy marriage. I am not saying she didn't care aboit her charities, so STOP right there if you plan to comment on that point. She cared very much. I adored her even though she was flawed ...as we all are. My point is that Kate is lucky to have the time to be at home with her family. If the Queen wanted her to be more involved she would be out there. I believe the Queen is happy to let them have their time. All one needs to do is step back in time and see how not having that kind of time has resulted in distant relationships with parents and broken marriages. William and Kate have a very long life ahead of them God willing.
DeleteSo, I am inspired by her dedication to her family. I am inspired by her style. I am inspired by what I see everytime she steps out with her kindness and genuine concern. I am inspired by her obvious love and devotion to her husband.
I don't believe for one moment that she and William are uninterested in the monarchy or their role. Willam may be aloof and distant at times. He lost his Mother. But I am certain that he knows his future is certain. Diana groomed him to be King. She wanted him to be King. He may let others down but he will NEVER LET DIANA DOWN. To become King and fulfil his duty is sown thing she wanted for him. He will do it for his Grandmother, Charles too but he will do it for his Mother foremost. Or so I say.
DB
Valerie
DeleteWould you revise your comment too? How do you know she works behind the scene, your assumption is EQUALLY based on your own judgement. Just because she had a secret visit to a prison. You know you are right we do not know what she does at home, but she has a nice stuff, if she is interested she probably looks into certain issues. People come up with this working behind the scene every time when she does something unusual. And try to convince other people otherwise. So in vain. So I did it for the last time.
The Glitterati Collection is Amazing! I particularly love the Druzy Cabochon Necklace, so stylish and perfect for a night on the town! (I'm a newsletter subscriber and follow CB on social media)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Claudia Bradby piece is the Winter Camellia Necklace, so pretty!

I love the Biography Pearl Drop Earrings, they look so chic and timeless!

Hello Charlotte! Thank you for the fantastic post as always. I was reading a story about how the Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed her visit to the Downtown Abbey set so much, and the actors were star struck meeting her. The actor who plays the butler even said she "overstayed". How delightful, to think of her as a fan girl just like me? I think sometimes I forget she's just a women, who fell in love with a man, and had two children. Anyhow, on to the really neat stuff! In the Claudia Bradby collection it's hard to narrow the choices down. I love the Druzy Cobochon necklace and earrings but I also love the Princess Charolette necklace, Royal Charm Bracelet and earrings to match. I liked the Pintrest and Facebook page and signed up for the newsletter. Now I'll cross my fingers and toes I'll win that beautiful necklace and earrings! Jenn from Texas
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I'm the first one to comment! I love these pieces and would like to own them, please! xx
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Saturday's game and seeing our Duchess AND so happy to at last have a date for the Chinese State visit! But most of all Charlotte, I want to say thank you for adding William's activities! Since they are a couple, it is interesting to see what both of them have been up to during the week - it gives us some insight into their live. I love the fact that Harry and William participated in such a worthy cause in the DIY project and I love the bullying project! Kind greetings from an embarrassed SA after having been beaten by Japan!!
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to the newsletter for an extra entry. My fave is actually the Kate necklace featured in the giveaway, but since it's probably unimaginative to say that, I'll tell you my next favourites :)
ReplyDeleteMy 2nd fave is the Eclipse Silver Ring Necklace because I like the modern style, and the fact the pearls and chain give it a delicate, feminine look. I've thought about buying one like it on Etsy before, but the Claudia Bradby version is the prettiest I've seen!
My 3rd fave is the Mother and Child Silver Acorn Necklace. I don't actually have kids, I just really like acorns because oaks are my favourite type of tree. Did you know oak trees are said to be struck by lightning more often than other trees, yet generally survive it, and their wood was sometimes used as a folk charm to protect against lightning because of the belief it never strikes twice?
I'm a mine of useless information lol. Good luck to everyone entering the giveaway :)
cute, 12:13
DeleteI must say I love Constantine set, that soft colour is amazing.
ReplyDeleteOne person we can definitely count of the China State Visit Banquet is Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Which makes me a little sad, she always looks good in a Tiara.
ReplyDeleteIs there a reason you think Sophie won’t be there?
DeleteI know she has engagements that day and so does Princess Anne, but state dinners are in the evening, so they would have time to get back to London and get ready.
Sophie has 3 engagements that day the last one is to attend the Opera "Tarka the Otter" at The Two Moors Festival in Devon. The performance starts at 7 pm, so that would conflict with the State Dinner.
DeletePrince William's 5 people were Kate, Harry, the Queen, Phillip and Charles.... Lupo was a bonus 6th he put on in (Lupo)
ReplyDeleteI thought that was cute also. Funny that he listed the Queen before his father. Nice that he named Kate first. I also like the royal bracelet.
DeleteI didn't put the list of people are not in the right order. William listed them: "Catherine, Harry, Father, Grandmother, Grandfather (Lupo)" But I don't think you should read to much into the order. The exercise wasn't about who you would call on first, just that you have 5 people to rely on.
DeleteI'm in love with the baroque pearls...mmmm....
ReplyDeleteI like the Winter Camellia necklace. Fun and yet elegant!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the royal charm bracelet. I enjoyed browsing the Claudia Bradby website, and love to see classic, elegant designs in sterling! (I also signed up for the newsletter) I enjoy it when you post about British designers/shops the Duchess favors because being in the states, I usually am not familiar with them. Thanks.

Hello Charlotte & all. In the last update (?) there was a post from someone who said HRH looks much better without the heavy eyeliner and I meant to comment that I so agree. I think HRH looks so much younger with the eye make-up change. (For whatever that's worth :)) I hope this post finds you all in good health and I am wishing you all a happy & safe week-end. Looking forward to the next update Charlotte. Keeping it POSITIVE! :)

ReplyDeleteI have never commented before (despite being a regular reader since the site began!) but I love Claudia's jewellery and couldn't resist the giveaway. I like the sentiment that the necklace expresses. I also really like the earrings that are in the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm about to sign up for Claudia's newsletter as well.

I have liked Claudia Bradby on Facebook and subscribed to her newsletter. Thanks so much for sharing this contest with your readers and good luck to all.

ReplyDeleteI also joined the newsletter and followed Claudia Bradby on Facebook.
The president of China arrives in Washington, DC as the Pope departs for New York. President Obama will have a working dinner tonight with the Chinese president, to discuss various issues such as climate change and hacking security. The state dinner at the White House will be tomorrow evening, after a joint press conference.
ReplyDeleteIs attendance at state dinners announced ahead of time in London? If not, and we are pretty sure William and Catherine will attend the Queen's dinner, should we go ahead with our suggestions for Kate's gown and accessories? I know this will be a lot of work again for you, Charlotte, but I wonder whether we will know Kate is in attendance until we see her in the formal procession and seated at a table for the dinner.
Hello!
DeleteI do hope we find out in advance but it could be quite late in the day before it's announced. We'll have our "Choose your Dream State Banquet" post over the next week or two at the latest. It should be so much fun :)
Thank you, Charlotte, both for your reply and for your plan to go ahead with the dream gown project! I look forward to it. I agree that it would be nice to know ahead of time if Kate will be at the state dinner, but we might not.
DeleteHello! Lovely post as always. I am commenting for the giveaway, pearls are such a classic piece in one's jewelry collection and I am a fan of Claudia's jewelry prior to the Kate effect. One of my newer favorite items is from the new collection, the Lucia Couture Pearl and Pyrite Necklace is stunning. Simple yet very intricate and beautiful. I have signed up for the newsletter and am following all of Claudia's pages on social media except for Twitter; I am not a Twitter person. Thank you so much! Good Luck to everyone!

I never win a giveaway ever but oh well i'll try I love the Constantine set because I can wear it with most everything. My jewelry of 25 years was stolen by a family member and pawned and of course by the time it was to late to do anything about it with the police. It makes me cry every time I think about it anyway loved the post and the giveaway ty again for the wonderful info.
ReplyDeleteI will put in my vote, saying how much I like the Glitterati necklace by Claudia. I've never won anything and am not on social media so I have little hope but one can always wish.
ReplyDeleteI've very much enjoyed seeing William at work and glad he included Lupo as one of his supporters - and suspect Lupo might actually place higher than his father and grandparents. There is nothing like a spaniel to tell your troubles to and to offer unlimited support.
I'll keep this brief because I believe we'll be getting a new post. Kate had an engagement today visiting a woman's visit. Am excellent return for her with her work on addiction. She looked stunning in a grey dress by a new designer - just right for the occasion. I don't personally love her hair. (although she has my sympathy - a friend asked me yesterday - are you doing somthing with your fringe? - you keep pushing it back - it gets cut tomorrow.) But her hair looks beautifully lush and well-kept and it's the visit that counts. She seemed very much involved.
Julia,
Deletegot a chuckle about your spaniel. So glad William mentioned Lupo. Indicates to me their Lupo is still holding his own in a growing, busy family.
I love the Claudia Bradby Jewelry. I entered the last time as well and have purchased multiple items for both myself and as gifts. I currently have the small pearl studs and the Peacock Pearl studs. I wear the small pearl studs everyday. Have always liked the Camellia Necklace and would love to have that as well.

KATE JUST VISITED A MAXIMUM SECURITY WOMEN'S PRISON. Even if it was just for PR,
ReplyDeleteit worked.
I will truly think twice before ever saying anything negative about Kate ever again.
I truly believe her inner circle PR team does read this blog, taking her PR pulse, as it were, and planning and/or re-planning, accordingly, as the case may be. This is probably one of a few key blogs they visit, IMHO.
California Girl

On another note can we all just stop arguing whether or not we think Kate does enough charity work. It's none of our business we just feel entitled to our opinion because they are in the public eye. Let William and Kate manage their life the way they like the Queen is obviously doing the same for the most part!
