When Kate left the hospital with Prince George she chose a bespoke cornflower blue crépe de chine dress by British designer Jenny Packham. Kate teamed the dress with her comfortable Pied a Terre Imperia Wedges (they're currently on sale in certain colours here) and completed the look with her Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop Earrings.

10.20 One of the most interesting aspects of the Great Kate Wait has been seeing stories related to royal fans camping out at the hospital. Terry Hutt, in particular, caught the attention of the public. He celebrated his 80th birthday last week and was thrilled to receive a cake and card from Kensington Palace. Following thirteen days of camping, Mr. Hutt said he is "over the moon" to hear the baby is on its way. You can watch an interview at ITV News.

07:45 A look at the statement members of the media received earlier this morning from Kensington Palace below.

With social media and the presence surrounding the hospital it was quite something for the Palace to be the first to announce it. We were told we wouldn't hear anything officially between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., however I felt this wouldn't apply if Kate went into labour early in the morning as she did with Prince George.
07:35 Our reader Shayna kindly noted The Telegraph already has a Live Camera feed from the Lindo Wing. You can view it along with their Live Blog here.
07:30 Prime Minister David Cameron send his best wishes to the Duchess.

07:20 As you can all imagine a plethora of articles are surfacing. Rebecca English has solid coverage in her piece for the Mail Online including historical background. The baby will be the Queen's fifth great-grandchild and a great-great-great-great-great grandchild of Queen Victoria.
'Whatever its sex, Prince George’s younger sibling will be the ‘spare to the heir’ and will not expect to be ever crowned sovereign. But second-born royal children have, on occasions, ended up as monarch - most recently when the Queen’s uncle, Edward V111 abdicated over his love for American divorcee Wallis Simpson in 1936, leaving her father to inherit the throne as George V1. Thanks to their great-grandmother, the new baby will, however, be made an HRH and given the title Prince or Princess of Cambridge.'
07:05 Royal photographer Tim Rooke shared a photo from the Lindo Wing. As you can see police are posted outside and the Great-Great-Great-Kate-Wait is over :)

ReplyDeleteHa, I knew it!! I counted the weeks from her 12-weeks-scan mid-October last year and that led to the 40th week being this one! Never mind, at last the waiting is over and I keep fingers crossed that everything will be alright and that mother and child wil be fine!

Wishing all the luck in the World to our favourite Duchess!

Thank you so much for your blog Charlotte! I'm absolutely delighted with the news of a little princess, how wonderful! Wouldn't it be great if they would choose your name for their baby girl? We'll have to wait and see, I guess:) My fiancé actually woke me up this morning with the news of Kate being admitted to hospital. How sweet of him! No morning grumpiness for me today haha.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! I'm so happy it's a girl. :)

ReplyDeleteWill she be a daddy's girl or what?
Deletelol. Charles and William are most likely going to be the most doting
grandpa and daddy. Not to mention
Grandpa Middleton. That girl is going to have some perks that's for sure. :)
What joyous news! I'm glad to hear mother and child are safe and that she healthy girl. I felt it would be a baby girl! I think she's been giving us hints all along. ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Kate, William, little Prince George, the Royal Family and the Middletons!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I was so excited that I forgot that part on my comment!
Monica, France
Yikes Charlotte!! I'm sorry for being honest as I know u r only posting certain comments but I have had 3 babies and leaving hosp the same day as giving birth is crazy!! She's had an 8lb baby, her legs are probably still numb from epidural, plus stitches, heavy bleeding, I don't envy her at all today, joyous news but the public eye is hard for her at times!
ReplyDeletenot everyone has epidurals, or stitches.
DeleteWith my second baby I was up and walking 10 minutes after he was born! I had so much energy! Kate will be well looked after in the coming days.
DeleteI would guess with the speed of the delivery that she didn't have an epidural. I was out of hospital within 12 hours with my third. She looks amazing.
DeleteI'm so happy for them! I had a feeling it would be today and that it would be a girl. Congratulations to the beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, wonderful news! Congratulations William, Kate and George :))))
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the Duke, Duchess & Prince George on the birth of the Princess! It was wonderful news to wake up to here in the U.S.!! I'm sure George will be a wonderful big brother.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to this crazy, beautiful world, Princess!
Little princess. Congratulations to Catherine, William and George.<3 Love from Finland.
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlotte for all your hard work!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited and happy for William and Kate that they had a healthy girl can't wait to hear what the name is!!
God bless them
Kate was wearing pink a lot this time, Charles was almost officially hoping for a girl and they are saying they didn't know the sex of the baby...right ;-)
ReplyDeletecant wait to see what kate wears on leaving hospital this time too
DeleteShe aldo wore a lot of blue
Deleteshe wore pink last time
William said he wanted a girl kast time
Camilla
I think that as they said they didn't know, we can safely assume they didn't know!
DeleteI hope Diana is one of the names..
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to William, Kate and George.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Prince Charles, Harry and all the grandparents and great grandparents.
Princes or not, for a man who wanted a girl in his family for over 30 years, one can imagine Prince Charles' rarest of delights and wish fulfilled without any controversy of his life.
For William and Harry, it is a day they welcome the closest continuation of their mother, the nearest female kin (other than their spousal partners). George is George, well and fitting in historical perspective, but a girl this time around is another gift and special in her own way in a family of four men.
Your post made me cry! So true!thank you for such beautiful words!
DeleteIs there not something poetic about it all? From a nineteen year old virgin bride’s marriage to an heir of a long history to the birth of this girl.
DeleteIn a country known for its literature and the theater, I have wondered what Shakespeare would have written on the history of this family at least from the early 70s to the present day.
Dear Tammy,
DeleteIn case your post is a reply to my post or any other person, you are very welcome. I hope it is tears of joy and irony.
Have a wonderful day and life.
Yes, SO poetic. She taught this entire family to love and BE a family in a way they didn't know before. Her eldest son now picked someone loving with a loving family and carries it on. My reply was indeed to you.
DeleteGreat posts, Anon 15 and Tammy from California. Perfectly expressed and ever so poignant. Thank you. Blessings on you both.
Delete1. I think those pink ribbons were a purposeful thing on the pastries. A little hint for such loving supporters.
ReplyDelete2. This little baby is such happy news and renews hope in a time when the news has been SO awful here in he US.
3. Thank you Charlotte for the live blog- too notch!!!!
4. LOOOOOVE to see the Tower Bridge pink!!!!
5. So, so fun to go to bed looking forward to wake up to something (kind of like being a child and knowing you're going to Disneyland the next day!)
6. YAY A PRINCESS!!!!!!!!
Wonderful news! I am guessing Mary or Alexandra.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've to go to bed and wait till morning for more news.
ReplyDeleteHurray to the Cambridges! :)
Wonderful news to wake up to!
ReplyDeleteMy fingers are crossed for an Eleanor, though I'd like Matilda, Victoria, or Charlotte, too.
Ah ha! I guessed 4pm, looks like i'm staying awake for another hour!
ReplyDeleteGreat news to wake up to. How exciting!! Still hoping for Caroline!
ReplyDeleteAny photos of Kate arriving at the hospital via onlookers? I'm simply curious.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for Prince George's arrival.
I just heard that no media or onlookers saw Kate arriving. I'm sure they used a rear entrance as most hospitals have emergency entrances.
DeleteI checked here at around 11 pm US CDT, and nothing. Early this morning I looked again, and lo and behold, a beautiful pink Tower of London! I missed the excitement, but I'm excited now! The Duchess seems to have had a speedy and efficient delivery. May her little daughter have a beautiful life! Thank you, Charlotte, for the wonderful live blog, and Congratulations to Jean, who got to say 'It's a GIRL!' first.
ReplyDeleteYay! A little princess! I wonder if any family has visited yet.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I hope Kate can rest up before she has to face the crowd! It was so overwhelming for her last time with George......please people in the media across the pond, let her rest.
ReplyDeletePrince William left the hospital wearing a bright blue sweater. Maybe he can find a pink one while he's at the palace! And hopefully bring George back with him. :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Prince George will get to take his baby sister home!
ReplyDeleteLovely news. Didn't care the gender as long as they were both well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the Duke and Duchess and Prince George!!! So excited that it's a girl! I honestly hope that they name her Diana. I think it would be a great nod to her never being able to meet her grandchildren. It would just be a sweet thing to do. But I also favor the name Alexandria and Victoria.
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! Prince George with his Dad, coming to meet his new sister!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I have tears in my eyes, that was such a big moment for little George. The look on his face was just like my 21mth old when she isn't sure on a situation. So cute. Glad William took him straight inside, I hope he doesn't get too overwhelmed wen they return outside with all the yelling etc.
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! My prediction of May 2 was right! So happy for them. I keep trying to watch the live feed but it freezes just when something happens, I missed prince William come back with George :( Charlotte if there is a short video of that could you share a link please?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the little princess and hear what they name her. Thank you for the excellent coverage, as always!

Yay!!!! I am so thrilled that the baby has arrived. I need to go shopping, but don't want to miss them leaving the hospital! Congratulations to the Duke & Duchess and Prince George. Welcome to the world little one - we can't wait to watch you grow. :o) Thanks Charlotte - great blog as always.
ReplyDeleteLittle George is aDORable! Oh my goodness, those cheeks!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! So happy for them! Thank you for your dedication to the blog to keep us updated. Do you know the address to send a card and/or gift?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to both of them! what a wonderful time for everyone!
ReplyDeletewhy oh why did prince william wear the SAME sweater? :( but oh well that does not matter.
can't wait to see the princess!
If one goes by the history of this girl, she is the female link towards continuity of fertility and future generations (granted she will have children or chooses to have any) of Diana, a star that shone and parted untimely although with fulfillment of two births.
ReplyDeleteShe is also a long awaited female and wishes answered to her grandfather, Prince Charles, as well as her father and uncle. She is a victory over a loss. It will make sense to name her to that effect in any language they prefer as her first name. Her middle name Elizabeth shared by her mother, maternal grandmother (middle names) and her paternal great great grandmother and great grandmother. To add the last ring of the bell to it, followed by Diana. Before you know it, it could link the three ages of history: Victorian by any other name, Elizabethan and “Dianoia generation” as well as include both sides of her parents family.
It does not matter if one cares less for Victorian era, being the way it was of ancient colonialism and Britain’s expansionist history, or the current Republican’s complaint against this monarchy ( although they favor the Queen), or if Diana was a mix of controversy. What matters is the child’s own history and circumstance of birth within the family’s life experience as well.
Well the bottom line what ever meaning the parents find in naming their child. I can't wait enough for the name.
Wow, that interaction with George was amazing. William was so hands on and making sure George was calm. Sweetness. And that wave <3. And their matching clothes!!! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little family!
At a time when I am facing worries with my own pregnancy (but trying to be positive!) this is very happy news. Congratulations to William and Kate, and lucky big brother George. :) A princess!!! And ohmygoodness doesn't George just look so big and gorgeous?! Thank you Charlotte for the quick updates!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for you and your baby, Kate.
DeleteHoping for a healthy baby and healthy pregnancy for you Kate!!!
DeleteOh, how sweet to see Prince George waving in front of the Lindo Wing again!
ReplyDeleteOh the video of George and William going into the hospital is so sweet!
ReplyDeletearghh what is up with the Telegraphs live camera?? looking up at brick wall
ReplyDeleteAny idea when W&C will come out of the Lindo Wing? I've been watching all morning, but it's a gorgeous sunny day and I'd like to get outside during the wait!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to go to sleep! I know the moment I do, that they'll waltz out of the doors and I'll miss seeing them live... Its almost 2.30am for me
DeleteThat kept happening to me earlier with the Prince William action!!! I would watch for a while then step away from the computer or switch internet browser tabs and immediately here cameras clicking and shouts/screams and realize PW had come out or arrived!
DeleteBy the way, I love your user name LOL! Apparently the moment is happening about 6:30pm London time (in 40 minutes), so you're almost there!!!
DeleteI watched the video of William and George on the Telegraph's live camera, and once George got out into the picture, I teared up. Totally unprovoked. What a beautiful time for this family. I don't even know them, and yet I feel like I am experiencing this with them! Thanks Charlotte for your hard work!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pictures of William and George! Thanks so much Charlotte!
ReplyDeletePrince George is so cute!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos of Prince George---that really was a bonus.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte, many thanks for keeping us up to date.
Dear Charlotte,
ReplyDeleteThank you for saving some of us away from the frying pan of some blogs that can be filled with undue hatred even on a birth of a child. To argue with justification in a bottom line hate environment can be tiresome, and given up from posting on at least one widely read blog.
Your dedicated hard work and professionalism will take you a long way.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Prince George has left. The earliest we will see them is 6:30. I heard on the live feed
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlotte for your live blog! You are great!
Liz, USA
OMG such wonderful news that I woke up to this morning - I'm in the US so by the time I got up I had missed all the action. However, I made up for lost time and have been perched near my laptop and phone ever since. It is just fantastically amazing that Wills & Kate have a little girl!!! And I'm sure Georgie will be a delightful big brother. Congratulations to all 3 of them! I can't wait to lay eyes on the little princess and of course the pictures of Wills & Georgie just melted my heart!
ReplyDeleteSunset in London is about 8:25 pm (their time), so I'm sure they will leave before darkness arrives. (fingers crossed)
ReplyDeletePer the Telegraph, "We're being told the baby moment is likely to happen at around 6.30"
ReplyDeleteSo Happy! Thank you Charlotte for your brilliant coverage!
ReplyDeleteBlessed Be to Kate and Princess Cambridge.
So happy for the royals and for all of Britain. What a joy. A new little princess.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and may God Bless this
ReplyDeletefamily. I think her name will be Princess
Alexandra Elizabeth Frances.
Yes they are blessed by God with such a wonderful family. I think your choice of names is very possible, especially with Elizabeth Frances being in the mix. Can't wait to find out!
DeleteAhhhh!!!! Kate looks beautiful and how sweet are they together with their new daughter?!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte,
ReplyDeleteYou beat major media outlets with your post of William, Kate and the baby girl's first appearance out side the St. Mary's, LW hospital. They look well settled in and the baby looks awake and calm under her bonnet.
WHAT? Prince William not holding his baby girl? What kind of behaviour is this???? What will the little princess think one day when she´s watching the proud father holding his son on the steps of the Lindo WIng - and then him saying "no" every time her mother wanted to hand her over to him???? I am disappointed! This is not the right sign to give to your daughter!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see that happen at all. I think you're reading too much into things.
DeleteHer father carried the new princess to the car in her car seat, carefully placed her inside, and drove her home. I think he left the seat belt to Kate, since it took exposed time with George and he was criticized for maybe not fastening it quite right.
DeleteJust WONDERFUL !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous family. So happy for them !!!
Champagne :-)))
Charlotte, are you hearing anything about why this seems rushed? They didn't talk to the media, they left in a hurry...it's just a bit odd.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was rushed too.
DeleteI wondered the same thing, but then figured maybe they would rather just get home and rest. Maybe they didn't like having to talk to the media last time, and so decided to just to head home after the required photo call. I don't blame them!!
DeleteI also wondered if Kate wanted to hold the baby to avoid the pictures of her post-baby body this time. I know last time she was praised for showing off her "mummy tummy", but perhaps she doesn't want the discussion about her body this time? She looks wonderful though, and I hope she gets to rest as they adjust to the new addition!
Jessica in Los Angeles
Presumably it's because it's already early evening and everyone's tired. With George, they stayed overnight at the hospital and had more time to rest up and recover.
DeleteI know! Was a little anti climactic. I hope there wasn't a security threat. They did look tired, so maybe that was the reason for rushing off.
DeleteI suspect the quick leave was in order to meet the grandparents and maybe great grandparents back at Kensington Palace - preventing more of the nonsense about who visited first. And no doubt Kate did not want to be photographed as she was after George's birth. The dress is also more concealing this time.
DeleteKate had given birth only ten hours before they left the hospital, rather than the evening before as with George. She probably was not as steady on her feet this time.
DeleteAnother possibility is that they didn't want to encumber the hospital with a continued media (and security) presence. They looked fabulous and so happy. There was a good story in the DM (amazingly) about the midwives who coached her.
DeleteI was so thrilled to wake up this morning and find such wonderful news waiting. I'm so happy it's a girl! I love Kate's dress, in my opinion it's the prettiest she's worn all pregnancy. Happy Birthday, YRH, Princess of Cambridge.
ReplyDeleteI"m in California and woke up to the news too and feel like I missed all the excitement! But I got to see them leave the hospital live. *Whew*. Charlotte, you've done a great job here.
DeleteCharlotte, thank you for such wonderful coverage! So happy for the Duke and Duchess!! Beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteShe has Kate's nose!
ReplyDeleteThey all look beautiful. Kate looks like she had a day out shopping, not like she just gave birth!! She is amazing. A very healthy lady. Gorgeous family. Precious little Princess.
ReplyDeleteSo excited about a baby princess! Can't wait to see how Kate dresses her up!! Thanks Charlotte for all you do and best wishes to the Royal Family and Great Britain! Blueskygal from Tucson, AZ USA
ReplyDeleteThey all look very beautiful! loved the dress even though it's the same silhouette as last time. I agree that the princess looks very much like Kate's side of the family whereas George looks like his paternal side.
ReplyDeleteI think the baby will be named
CHARLOTTE DIANA ELIZABETH
or
ALEXANDRA FRANCES ELIZABETH
or
ALICE FRANCES ELIZABETH
I agree about the new princess looking more like the Middletons than PG. Other than the noses, the baby looks very different than PG did when he was born. Looks as though she may be a brunette with an olive complexion like Pippa although so hard to tell at this point. She is a beautiful baby!
DeleteWonderful, quick, informative coverage, Charlotte! Thank you! Now, I'm dying to know the name. Are you?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little face! And Kate looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHer shoes are either Jimmy Choo Gilbert or Stuart Weitzman Power pumps in nude
ReplyDeleteMy guess.
I thought Stuart Weitzman but I'm sure someone will ID them very soon. I'm going to be a killjoy and say I'm not a fan of the dress. Looks like she stepped out in her nightgown to me. That being said, someone who has just given birth is allowed to wear whatever she wants. I would have loved a pink dress but I realize that's a bit cliche.
DeleteCharlotte, what does the W stand for on KP's stationery?
ReplyDeleteI believe the W is for William.
DeleteWindsor?
DeleteThose were my guesses too.
DeleteI have never thought Prince George looked like Michael Middleton as some have suggested, but today, I see A LOT of him in Georgie. He just gets cuter and cuter!
ReplyDeleteAfter keeping an eye on the facade of the Lindo Wing for hours (while sorting and filing the chaos in my office), the computer froze just as William and Catherine came out with their daughter. Bad words, bad words, bad words. Sure, I'll be able to catch the replays later, but it's not the same as being in that real time moment. (First world problems, I know.) I'd also hoped that the child would arrive on my birthday, but she was off by one day.
ReplyDeleteStill the photos are lovely. And, Charlotte, your coverage is exemplary! Hats off and kudos to you--with huge thanks.
I think she has her mom's nose. And maybe her hair, too, from what is peeking out from under the bonnet!
ReplyDeleteAnd her mom's calm way, but George's cheeks!
DeleteWhat a lovely family. I loved seeing George in his Dad's arms. William looks such the dad. And how does Kate do it. I know that she probably didn't get any sleep the night before, early labour usually equals no sleep, giving birth then stepping out with her new baby looking fresh, a little tired but stunning. I know she has a team...but still.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely choice of dress, pretty. Gorgeous wee baby. I love her cheeks! I hope the family able able to spend some time settling in as a family of four. How nice for Kate too, she is close to her Mum, I'm sure she will want to nurture her mother/daughter relationship.
Adorable baby, adorable child, incredible couple. Kate is ......superhuman. Who looks like that after delivering a baby!
ReplyDeleteShe is going to make a great Queen.
