Hyde Park is a fabulous place to enjoy a leisurely walk, and every year millions of tourists visit. The park covers 350 acres and is home to a number of famous landmarks including the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. The parks also offers recreational activities including boating, cycling and tennis.

Kate looked casual and chic in her L.K. Bennett Darwin Jacket. The £745 Shearling jacket is available in Brown and Sand.

It is described as:
'The full collar and cuffs with exposed shearling makes this a must have. Feminine seaming makes this a luxurious item but it works equally well for special occasions, work or casual wear - so is an investment piece that could bring new energy to your whole wardrobe.'
The Darwin is very much a staple piece in Kate's wardrobe and we've seen her wearing it several times such as at the Burlington Arcade in November and Christmas Eve 2011 at a football match in Castle Rising where William was playing.

Kate teamed her jacket with a jumper, black skinny jeans and her La Chameau Vierzon Nord Wellies. The neoprene-lined Wellington boots are available for $298 at Orvis.

Kate wore her hair half up - half down; a style which suits the Duchess. With a week to go until the next scheduled engagement, it was nice to see Kate out and about. Again, my thanks to the lovely Susan from WKW and WKW FB friend Jennifer :)

A very excited tweeter was delighted to see the Duchess doing a spot of shopping in Bury St Edmunds.

Bury St Edmunds is a market town in Suffolk and it would seem unlikely Kate would travel their solely for shopping. Dash from British Royals correctly pointed out Kate's patronage EACH has a significant presence in Suffolk, so it is quite possible she was there or attending a social occasion.

Kate graces the cover of Hello! Canada this week.

Hello! Canada |
We'll be continuing with our 'Kate Loves' series next :)
Dear Charlotte,
ReplyDeleteI really admire and appreciate your work on this blog.
You give us such well-thought-out posts and your good heart shines through every single post you write for us.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for the update!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward for your next post : )
March is coming.......
Thank you for the update. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't help but wonder how people feel and react when they are walking in the park and suddenly see Kate walking the dog. It must be a surreal experience. It looks like they are walking on Broad Walk heading towards Bayswater Rd.
Hello! I've not commented before, but I wanted to thank you, Charlotte, for such attentive and lovely posts about the Duchess. I love seeing what she is doing, and am gaining an appreciation for clothes that I never had before. I think she is everything that she ought to be! I've also began to learn much more about the British monarchy than I ever knew, and am learning more about other countries! Who knew! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm certain you are busy, but was curious about your royal digest blog; will you be continuing it? The last post I saw was about Charles and Camilla. I love reading your take on the royals!
I also quite enjoy the comments on your posts! People bring such a fervor and strong opinions. I must admit I was a little disappointed in the last posts comments towards someone who was "on the fence" about the Duchess. I think your site, unlike so many others, brings really thoughtful dialogues which both educate and inspire interest. Part of that, to me, is a safe place to respectfully air your opinion. It seems like there are a few commenters who only want to compliment Kate, and tear down others who are expressing their thoughts. I wish instead it had inspired a real conversation about that commenters concerns.
In any case, thank you for providing such wonderful reading material! You give this Kate fan hours of enjoyment. :)
Best wishes,
Katie from CA
Hello Katie,
DeleteFirstly welcome to the blog, I look forward to reading your comments.
Thank you so much for your comment. It is lovely to see Kate and about enjoying the lovely Hyde Park and spending time with her friend. I'm sure they have plenty to discuss, Trini recently had a baby and Kate's expecting.
I am indeed continuing The Royal Digest, it's been the busiest couple of weeks, every time I sit down and plan to write a post, something crops up but thankfully things will should be quietening down and I will be posting regularly very soon.
As for the commenters, there's a lovely bunch of regulars here :) :)
Yay! That is great news for me, I also love to read The Royal Digest! :)
DeleteZ. from Portugal
Charlotte, I know you are so busy and will be posting on The Royal Digest soon. I was wondering if you are following Prince Harry's trip to Lesotho? I have been following and the video footage is priceless. Those children are absolutely beautiful and you can see what a difference it makes in their lives to have him there. I know he will be doing some fundraising also for Sentebale. You always have great posts on both blogs....just throwing the idea out there :)
DeleteExcellent idea Kate :) I will make the first post about Harry for sure! I love seeing him with children.
DeleteI'm glad to hear you're continuing with the The Royal Digest – looking forward to some new posts once things calm down a little for you, Charlotte.
DeleteDuring the stroll with her friend the Duchess dressed comfortably, but I think that the white t-shirt (or sweater) is a bit too long and perhaps this is due to the fact that she was wearing leggings. But that's totally understandable, during her free time and above all during the pregnancy, she has all the rights to dress as comfortable as she needs.
ReplyDeleteEventually I am glad to see that she has true and trusted friends! :-)
Maybe she is trying to keep her bump warm. And now that she is pregnant you would want to wear longer tops.
DeleteYes of course, and the beautiful Duchess look stunning as usual! :-)
DeleteGreat to see Kate out for a walk with a friend. I did a lot of walking too with my pregnancies. The coat looks cozy and warm. If anyone wants to pay for my ticket to England I will gladly take you up on that. Ha
ReplyDeleteNo, realllly!
Sarah, I would love to take you to England! I am looking for someone to go back with me this summer. :) You would be a fun travel buddy! Maybe I'll win the lottery before then......
DeleteKate, that is very kind of you :) it would be great fun!
DeleteAfter a day like I had at work yesterday a 1 month tour in Europe would really be nice. (I needed the Keep Calm And Carry On poster near me) I will need to work on that lottery too!
What a nice surprise to have a new Kate photo and news today! Thanks for all the background information, Charlotte! You share a wealth of knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI have a somewhat silly question. I notice that both the Duchess and her friend are wearing Wellies. Has there been so much precip in London that Wellies are needed, or might they have been walking elsewhere...? Sorry - just curious. :o)
Julie
Hello Julie!
DeleteIt has been cloudy and cold, I don't think wellies were necessary but Kate adores her wellies, She's worn them on the beach and visiting the Widehorizons adventure centre. I expect she finds them very comfy to wear :)
I've got a pair of Le Chameau wellies and I can attest to the fact that they keep your feet toasty warm since they block any moisture, cold and wind. If my feet are warm, I'm good to go but when my feet get cold, forget it! They're also extremely comfortable and I expect after trotting around in 4" heels, Kate probably wears comfy footgear as much as she can.
DeleteI wonder if the sweater is the longer pink cowl neck she wore prior to her wedding and also when walking with William along the coast?
ReplyDeleteIt's a possibility for sure!
DeleteWow a Kate sighting!!!!Its nice to see her walking about enjoying the walk and getting some fresh air. I don't see a security guard around..,maybe in plainclothes..Thank You Charlotte for this update,:)) XOXO
ReplyDeleteHi Siddhii- I don't think William would like it if his beautiful mommy to be was out walking with out security protection with her. They are either in front or behind her.
DeleteHope all is well with you my friend.
You can be assured her security details is right with her, although not in the picture, and close enough to protect but not so close that they intrude on her personal space.
DeleteI love your blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :)
Deletewell glad that the duchess is fine i think she is st james palace glad to hear that she okay
ReplyDeleteYea for a Kate sighting! It's nice to see her enjoying down time with her girlfriend and taking a leisurely stroll. I LOVE the Darwin jacket! It is one of my favorite "Kate wears". I love that it can be dressy or casual! I have said it before, but just can't imagine what it's like to casually bump into Kate or see her walking through the park. I would be speechless and fumbling for a camera. I wonder if her security protection ever prevent someone from taking a casual snapshot if they see them trying?
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the Grand Entrance to Hyde Park. It such a beautiful park. I love to take a picnic lunch when in London and just relax. :) Sarah, somewhere you'll definitely want to see on our trip....wink, wink. :)
Charlotte, thanks for the info and update! You keep us all so well informed! Looking forward to the next sighting and upcoming engagement to Grimsby!
Hyde Park joins Kensington Gardens so it's a really beautiful place to spend an afternoon particularly in warm weather. I'm not surprised Kate loves it so much and of course Lupo :)
DeleteI love little Lupo. I had a black cocker spaniel growing up named Princess who I adored. :) They are great family dogs....we had a total of 5 cocker spaniels, but Princess was mine.
DeleteI knew that the two parks were divided by the Serpentine. I would love to walk the length of both parks. There's so much to do and see. When I was there last summer I walked from my hotel on Buckingham Gate Rd, through St James Park, past the Wellington Arch, and into Hyde Park. I wanted to walk further, but my feet were so tired. This was after all the standing of the 4 days of Jubilee celebrations and a day trip to Windsor Castle! When in England I never get all things on my "list to do" checked off!
I had to laugh when you mentioned "warm weather". My husband and I took a trip to England about 10 years ago and the big news was the heat wave. It was in the 80's and we thought it was divine after dealing with the Texas summer heat. It can easily go over 100 degrees here in the summer. :(
I think we should have a Duchess Kate Blog picnic gathering in Kensington Gardens. How fun would that be?!?!? Maybe we could all have high tea at The Orangery!
"I think we should have a Duchess Kate Blog picnic gathering in Kensington Gardens. How fun would that be?!?!?"
DeleteDear Kate from Texas,
what an incredibly brilliant idea. You can count on me! And I suggest that we wait until Kate comes along so that we can invite her and have a chat with her. :-O
Marion, wouldn't that be fun?!? Glad there's someone who likes the idea and wants to join me! It would be lovely to have Kate join us or maybe see her casually walking by pushing the baby pram with Lupo in tow. :)
DeleteThat is so funny ladies. I could just see us all.hanging around to see Kate..
DeleteWhat would we do ? Ya phones out and click click click.. wave smile. then off for a wonderful cup of tea and scones
I'm using hubbys phone left my kindle at work. Ugh
Kate, what a *great* idea! And by all means, we must invite Kate (and the baby)! But the star of the event should be Charlotte so we can all thank her in person for her great blog! ;o)
DeleteHugs from Hawaii,
Julie
It sounds wonderful having a picnic in a park. But are we sure that London is ready of us Duchess fans...lol We could get enough of us and take over the Goring Hotel. What fun!!!!
DeleteIt sounds like so much fun :)
DeleteThat sounds delightful !!!!!
DeleteCharlotte, you would definitely be the Queen of our picnic! Can't you picture us all enjoying our lunch with cell phones in hand snapping pics as Kate takes her stroll pushing the baby pram. I think the protection officers would look at us and run! :)
DeleteI think Royalfan was right about the location....walking Broad Walk heading towards Bayswater Rd. So, I guess they were walking in Kensington Gardens and not Hyde Park. :) The Princess Diana Memorial Playground is to the left. I wonder if Kate will spend afternoons in the future playing with the little prince or princess at the playground named after their late grandmother? It is a bittersweet thought. :)
ReplyDeleteThis isn't totally related but I was having a completely awful day this past weekend and so to cheer me up, my sweet boyfriend went out and bought me flowers and the same Hello magazine with Kate on the cover because he knows I'm such a nut about her! The gesture instantly did a 180 on my day and I LOVED the magazine, with stunning photos of Kate. Putting her on a the cover definitely sells, I now have a subscription to Hello haha! :)
ReplyDeleteI've never been to the UK before but London is at the top of my list of places to visit in my lifetime, and Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens look like a beautiful place to go for a walk in the morning. I'll tuck that away for someday.
Kate from Canada
Kate, I really hope your week has been better than your weekend. :) BIG kudos to your boyfriend for the sweet gift! Your post made me smile. I hope you have a great Wednesday!
DeleteOh Bury St. Edmunds! I´m a keen reader of English detectiv novels and this town was featured in one I read some time ago and I can´t remember which one was it (Ruth Rendell, Agatha Christie?) no matter..it is exactly as nice and charming as I imagined - thank you Charlotte for the additional information you put in your articles!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlotte!
ReplyDeleteI love to see Kate in her casual style, she looks great with those boots and jeans, while walking in the park.
Can't wait to see her in March 5th, and very much looking forward to reading the Kate Loves posts :)
Hugs, from a very sunny Portugal this week.
Z.
Hello, my friends!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the Duchess spending some time with Trini! And I guess Trini will be even more important to her once the baby is born! She will definetely give her some maternity tips!
Honestly, I'm not a fan of this jacket! I don't know why, but I just don't like it...
I'm planning to go to London in September, as a part of an Exchange program. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens will be, surely, on my "to do" list!
Charlotte, do you know if any engagements are to be announced?
Best wishes of a great, great week :)
Hugs from São Paulo!
Hello Ana. B
DeleteJust March 5th's visit to Grimsby for the moment. I expect we'll hear something else soon :)
Charlotte- I read somewhere that the Duchess might join William on the 17th of March since he is the guest of honor. And idea if this is true? Sure hope so. It is always nice to see them together.
DeleteHello Pauline, nothing official let but I'll let you all know if I hear anything :)
DeleteHi Charlotte
ReplyDeleteI chanced upon your blog last year when Kate was in Singapore. Your blog is very engaging, it makes me feel like taking leave from work to hv a glimpse of Kate. I hv been following your blog since then. Reading your blog is therapeutic, great job!
Agnes from Spore
Hi Charlotte,
ReplyDeleteI don't see one of my comments where I wrote that I have the feeling (like a sixth sense) that the baby of William and Kate will be a baby girl.
Wasn't it published because it is inappropriate or because of a technical problem?
Thank you and kind regards!
Hello Stella, I would definitely have published it if I had seen it, for some reason it didn't come through, my apologies.
DeleteYou know the general consensus seems to be it's a girl :) I see you're from Italy, what a day in the Vatican!
Thank you Charlotte for your reply!
DeleteI renew my appreciation for your beautiful blog and for your flawless management!
Today it has been an incredible and epochal day in the Vatican and for all the Catholic people!
Kind regards!
It's so nice to chat with a friend who's a new mom when you're pregnant – glad Kate is able to do that and get some exercise at the same time!
ReplyDeleteIs 'pauline oaks hill' r normal 'Pauline from California ' ? Pauline from California posts regularly on here she seems quiet and just wondering if she okay? Funny how u get used to the regulars !! I live her passion for the couple! Always interesting posts. Pauline... Hope u okay! Bella Wiltshire uk
ReplyDeleteHello Bella
DeleteIt is indeed the same Pauline :)
@Bella- Yes that is me. I decided to use the city where I live. Thank you for the kind words. I am happy that I know at least one person here is just as passionate as I am with this beautiful royal couple.
DeleteAnd thanks Charlotte for letting Bella know it was me.
Hi Pauline ! I was 99.9999 percent sure it was you! Since Oak Hills is in the San Diego area.
DeleteGlad to have the confirmation though.
Take care , and it looks like CA is sunny again !!!
Pauline and charlotte... Thank u for the confirmation!! And nice to know ur still reading the site pauline!! I received my partycatalogue today (carole And Michael middleton company) I've been ordering from years from here for my childrens birthday parties, anyway lupo , Kate's dog stars in it!! A picture and thanks to him and two other spaniel s for appearing in the photo shoots!! Very funny I thought! Bella Wiltshire uk
Delete@Sarah from Calif.- Hello there my friend. Oak Hills is in the High Desert. I am about 2 hours from San Diego and an hour from the South Bay (Beach area of Southern Cal.) I was born and raised in Santa Monica until grade school then moved to Manhattan Beach area of the South Bay. Lived there until my divorce.
DeleteYour up in Northern Cal correct?
Pauline, Central Calif. Between Monterey and S. C. I'm in what is called the Salad Bowl of the world. I do love the High Desert though, warmer on the body.
DeleteHave a great weekend!
Mia, I think it was Agatha Christie who featured Bury St. Edmonds in one of her books. I'm also a fan of Ruth Rendel. Colorado Eve. PS. I'm glad Kate can have some freedom with a friend. That probably won't last too much longer, with additional security for the heir after she's born.
ReplyDeleteI see that Hello! magazine used Kate's maiden name in their headline (regarding this walk in the park). I find it sooo annoying at this point and disrespectful.
ReplyDeleteI was discussing this with a fellow reader yesterday, it makes no sense whatsoever. I stopped referring to her, and thinking of her as Kate Middleton on the day of the royal wedding.
DeleteOne theory mentioned before had to do with her maiden name being more familiar and how that has to do with internet searches, etc. And that may be true to a degree, but I have another theory to offer....I believe some people simply refuse to acknowledge that this gal made it! And boy did she!!!! :)
DeleteI too get really pisst when I read where they refer to our beautiful Duchess as Kate Middleton. She has taken William's name so it just show's how disrepectful the media is.
DeleteRoyalfan, I had to laugh at your "this gal made it" comment! Too funny and so true! I do love that she "made it" by falling in love...true love and great friendship. :) It annoys me also when she is referred to by her maiden name. After I saw your post I did google Catherine Mountbatten-Windsor just to see what would come up. There was one instance when I saw her maiden name used and I really was baffled.... On the court documents Will and Kate filed with the French courts after the topless photo scandal, it states William's full name...William Arthur Phillip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor, but lists Kate's name as Catherine Elizabeth Middleton. If they are married, why would court documents use her maiden name? Anyone know?
DeleteHello Kate from Texas !
DeleteHere, in France, a woman keep her maiden name all her life long, and it is just a tradition to use the man's name. For me, for example, I use the name of my husband every time, but if I have official documents to file, I will have to write my maiden name, and then, eventually, the name of my husband !
I hope I explained it clearly, sorry for the mistakes !
xxx from Paris !

I believe the French always us a woman's maiden name in official documents. However in England we do not---don't know about Scotland where the legal system is different.
DeleteI think It is particularly unfitting now that she is pregnant.
Trouble is that many of the reporters have no idea of the history or protocol of the Royal family.
On the morning of the Royal Wedding I heard some official from Buckingham Palace state that she had become Her Royal Highness Princess William, Duchess of Cambridge and he added that no one would mind if she was called Princess Catherine.
It's to do with french law, I think I remember charlotte explaining it on the blog at the time. Don't know if its still on this site. Trudie. Boston.
DeleteIt's a French thing. They always use women's maiden names in court.
Delete@Kate from Texas- I read somewhere on the day they filed the lawsuit the reason they used Middleton but in old age I can't remember why. But to me is seem's disrepectful to her & to William. But we have alot of dumb media people writing about this beautiful couple.
DeleteHi ladies,
DeleteMy co-worker from Korea uses her maiden name. She is happily married with 3 girls. I'll ask her for more details on it Fri. when I see her.
@ Kate/Texas ... LOL. It is VERY true. :)
DeleteAnd I agree with you about HOW she made it...and that's what makes it all the more special.
Thanks for all your replies and feedback on my question. That's why I love this blog and the super job Charlotte does....all the information learn and the conversations generated! I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend!
DeleteTo this day, there are people who refer to the late Diana, Princess of Wales as "Lady Diana". There is nothing offensive or disrespectful about it. That's how she was introduced to the world as was Kate as Kate Middleton. Some people on here really need not be so easily "pisst".
ReplyDeleteKate from Texas: you question is very interesting, I am curious too!
ReplyDeleteIt's a French legal requirement but I hope someone can explain that better. As for the name, I don't think there's any resentment. I think people simply got used so many years to "Kate Middleton" that the name got fixed in people's mind. Duchess of Cambridge is a mouthful and it didn't help that they started on this "Catherine" business which ended up sounding pretentious. It may be that she has always preferred Catherine but no one made the correction early. (Not that it would have made much difference, people see it as friendly. <y father Arthur was Art to clients and friends to his dying day, my husband Richard is Dick, even though both men preferred their full names and we always call them that.) I can never hear William call Kate Catherine without thinking of the "Kate the curst" speech in Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare take on the Catherine/Kate issue.
ReplyDeleteDiana was always Diana to people not Princess of Wales, (in Europe Lady Di) Sarah Ferguson got called Duchess of York some, maybe because it's easier, but a lot of folks called her Fergie (now likely to get mixed up with the singer) Speaking of mix-ups, I think one reason Kate as stayed Kate Middleton is because she got wedding to her surname early so there would be no mix-up with Kate Moss, also much in the news at the time. I always Google both, to pick up different results. And before royal die-hards or Hilary Mantel get excited, it is worth noting Charles, Camillia and Phillip are most often referred to by their first names. Only the queen is most often referred to by her title. And "Queen Mum" was hardly official either. So I wouldn't get too caught up on what people call Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. It comes from affection. And while I usually go as anonymous, don't mind signing mine,
Linda
This is when I feel sorry for Kate. Can't even walk the dog with a friend without cameras in her face (or back). She knew what she was getting into, and I hope she's happy.
ReplyDeleteI asked the same question and was told that's how lawsuits are filed in France, with the woman's maiden name.
ReplyDeleteI would not expect every journalist/headline to refer to Kate as The Duchess of Cambridge (I get the our society is becoming less formal by the day), but I also don't find the use of her last name to be a sign of affection. I say that because in *Kate's* case, there was so much negative press about her and her family (all petty and fictional because she's an attractive girl whose face sells papers and there was no engagement to announce just yet).
ReplyDeleteMany royal ladies are referred to (even right here) by their first names and I don't see a problem with that, but there is a different element to it where Kate is concerned. IMO.
Very colorful and nice post. I was an ardent fan of Diana and now Catherine. But why should Hilary Mantel quote Kate Middleton as plastic princess?
ReplyDeleteSUMAZLA / yeh what a joke. Kate seems far from plastic princess. She seems incredibly real to me. Seems like the controversy has been very mixed up. Some say one thing and the others the opposite. Ugh
ReplyDelete
