The Duchess in Dolce & Gabbana for Final Day of Royal Tour!

William and Kate began the final day of their visit to Norway at the Hartvig Nissen School, which was the location for the hugely successful Norwegian television programme 'Skam'.

The Duchess arriving.

The first engagement of the day focused on young people and learning more about a popular television show focusing on issues facing teenagers and mental health.

The couple spent time meeting members of the crowd during a walkabout.

Kate chatted about her A-levels and St Andrews. The Duchess "After school I went onto university where I met William, St Andrews University in Scotland, But I can't complain about that being here".

Another video from the walkabout by Simon Perry.

The Telegraph reports: She also spoke to 19-year-old Shaun Ondo and his 18-year-old friend Alfred Strande. "I told her that her coat was burgundy and she said I had very good English," said Mr Ondo. "It was nice to see them in real life and nice to see they are such friendly people." His friend Mr Strande said: "We don't know much about the royal people from England. It was good that they took the time to say hello and shake hands." Kate also asked some teens if they "have got exams coming up this summer? Good luck with everything."

William and Kate were joined by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Skam is a drama series highlighting teenagers and the challenges young people can experience growing up, such as identity issues, bullying, relationships, sexual assault, and eating disorders. Following on from the theme lines of the show, the characters started their own social media profiles to engage with the audience watching directly, creating an international following and fan base.

The royals met the cast and discussed the themes covered in the show.

Skam follows a new main character each season. While airing, a new clip, conversation or social media post was published in real-time on the NRK website on a daily basis. Each season focuses on particular topics, ranging from relationship difficulties to mental health struggles. Despite no promotion ahead of its 2015 launch, Skam broke viewership records. The show has received critical acclaim and significant recognition for its portrayal of sexual abuse in the second season and homosexuality in the third. It was praised for its contributions to promote Norwegian language and culture, and is notable for having ushered a new form of entertainment by real-time, high-engagement, snippet-based distribution. It received multiple Norwegian awards, including best drama and innovation.

They posed for photos.

A smiling William and Kate leaving the engagement.

From there, William and Kate travelled to to Skaugum, the official residence of The Crown Prince and Princess of Norway, for a private lunch.

They were joined by the couple's adorable dog Milly Kakao.

Kate seemed quite taken with Milly Kakao.

The labradoodle joined the family in 2009 and is regularly photographed on trips and at home with Haakon, Mette-Marit and their family. I must admit, I love the fact Milly Kakao has a photo album named after her on the royals official website. You can view the very sweet images here. Can you imagine Lupo and the corgis taking centre stage on the BRF website :)

The estate is located about 12 miles southwest of Oslo, by the foot of the mountain Skaugumsåsen. The estate consists of 480,000 square meters of agricultural lands and 500,000 square meters of woodlands.

The Duchess wrapped up in a plum Dolce & Gabbana coat today. The double breasted piece features military style gold buttons. Below, we show the coat in black.

The $2,675 piece is described as "Crafted of luxurious virgin wool, the design is characterised by its two line button fastening, classic collar, piqued shoulders and slim long sleeves, drawing in at the waist with darts and falling with a gentle flare to the knee. A coat is complete with two flap pockets, a rear central vent and a full leopard print lining, a signature of the house."

Underneath, the Duchess wore a gorgeous dress by Norwegian brand byTiMo. The Black Lace Trimmed Shift Dress features oval-heckled lace detailing on the collar, on the shoulders and in the waistline. The floral print piece is from the Pre Spring 2018 Collection. It's available for $285 at Tuckernuck and on the byTiMo website. It is thought the neckline on Kate's dress has been modified.

Designer Tine Mollatt, who was among the guests the black-tie dinner at the Palace last night expressed her delight:

"An incredibly proud moment. We are very grateful that she chose a dress from us,"

Kate wore her favourite Tod's suede pumps.

Kate carried her Mulberry Bayswater clutch.

And accessorised with her Mappin & Webb Empress earrings.

Kate completed the look with Cornelia James Beatrice gloves.

Next, The Duke and Duchess will visit Holmenkollen's most iconic landmark – the Holmenkollen Ski Jump.

  4. I loved watching Skam last year, it's such an amazing series which lets you think about important topics like the importance of mental wellbeing. Mental health awareness is a cause very important to the Duchess and I'm sure she would enjoy the show as much as I did. I have to say one of my dreams was to see Kate meeting the cast of this amazing tv show. Last year I was sure this was "an impossible dream", instead today... sometimes dreams come true!

So, I have a confession to make. I've never watched SKAM. I should, I know. Everyone have watched it here and everyone loves it! It really has had an impact and that makes me so happy! No wonder William and Kate has this on the itinery since it really fits with their mental health focus!

Nice standard working look on her! Very pretty colour! I look forward to seeing the dress under the coat! Nice to see her in a norweigan brand!

Can't belive it's already the last day!

One to one contact really is where she excels. People that have talked to her always say how good she is at putting them at ease and how she's lovely to talk to!

    2. She also gives so many people "real focused time"! I know she said in The Queen's Documentary, that she gets teased by The Family for taking too long at Walkabouts. However, I hope she doesn't ever change! How wonderful to have waited so long in Heat or Cold, to then have a chance to shake Kate's hand, make eye contact, enjoy her lovely smile, & for some, to be able to have a chat! Engaging with others & drawing them out, that is her Super Power! :)

    1. It is the style that Kate has found works for her, so she is faithful to it. Nothing at all wrong with that. Those who expect Kate to dazzle them with "bells and whistles" every single time they see her are in for a disappointment. That is not what Kate is about. Kate dazzles with a quiet, natural and timeless elegance and with her lovely dimpled smile, she can charm anyone. Kate's style is enduring, as opposed to flamboyant

  11. Love Kate. Do not like the coat. Don’t like the buttons, the color, or the no collar. Hope she didn’t pay Dolce and Gabana prices for it. It isn’t a very attractive coat.

Kudos to her for doing a tour while seven months pregnant. When she gets home, after saying hi to the children, I hope she can take the time to curl up in her jammies, read or just have some “me time”.

    4. Yes, I agree. Well done for the tour at that stage in her pregnancy. They had fairly full days too, with meals being served left, right and centre. I always felt that I just wanted to eat small meals, and choose my own food as not to get reflux! That probably would not have been an option for Kate these last few days. I bet the food that they were served was delicious though, so she probably was not suffering too much... I hope they can go straight to Norfolk and take the kids out of school on Monday to just cuddle up!

    5. Lol surfer girl, my reaction was exactly the opposite. I loved the military styling, the color, the gently flared hem, and the versatility of the open vs buttoned lapels. If I could afford it I’d buy it for myself ;)

She's done all this with a non-stop schedule, multiple events & wardrobe/Hair changes each day! I also hope that she's going to be able to relax in her favorite ways, when she gets home! :)

  12. Someone was asking about curtsying protocol yesterday. On the Norwegian royal family's website, you can see a picture of William bowing to King Harald. I would imagine he bowed to Queen Sonja too and Kate would have curtsied to both the King and Queen as well.

    1. Many thanks Caroline!!! Very kind of you!!
      I asked about it!!

      Delete
    2. Agreed Caroline, it's always been my understanding that the royals bow/curtsy to other royals of senior rank to themselves. So, William and Kate, as Prince and Princess, would bow/curtsy to the king and queen in both Sweden and Norway. I'm not sure how it works with the Crown Princes and Princesses though. Technically, CP Victoria and CP Haakon are senior in rank too, as they're both next in line to their respective thrones. Does this mean William and Kate should be bowing/curtsying to them too? I haven't noticed them doing so, so I guess not.

      Delete
    3. You're very welcome, Anonymous!

Theoretically William and Kate would have to bow/ curtsy to the Crown Princess/ Crown Prince but the Swedes and Norwegians apparently don't expect them to and therefore they didn't. Royal protocol is not as stringent in Sweden and Norway as it is in the UK, for instance. Princes and Princesses always have to bow/ curtsy to the King and Queen of a foreign country. In the UK, her whole family has to and does bow/ curtsy to the Queen. This is not so in Norway and Sweden, where family members don't have to bow/ curtsy to the King and Queen. On the other hand, William and Kate would be expected to bow/ curtsy to the King and Queen there and likewise Victoria and Haakon would always bow/ curtsy for a foreign King or Queen.

  15. Just up the road from where I work!

Good choice of engagement - we're very proud of Skam! Fashion wise, I have no opinion except this: she looks a bit overdressed compared to William and Haakon & Mette-Marit. Too formal and ready for a tea party at the Ritz.

This has been the tour when Kate took a step forward, in my not so humble opinion. May I suggest that a bit of healthy competition from sister-in-law-to-be has made its mark?

  16. I have a question I posted late yesterday but I'll post it again today on this post. How does the press (or whoever?) know so quickly who the designer is? Is it released to reporters or is it "obvious - duh!" to everyone but the fashion-unconscious florida girl? :) Like, how did Charlotte know this was Dolce&Gabbana or how did the person who told her know? I've always marvelled at this!

I just LOVE oppotunities to hear Kate interact with fans. It must be hard to focus on and hear what someone is saying in a crowd but she makes it seem like the person she's talking to is the only one in the room! Makes me wish we had more of this sort of exposure to the royals.

Skam sounds so interesting, especially that the casts interacts with the audience on social media.

    1. florida girl, others may have more info. but I believe (& Charlotte has referenced this before) that sometimes KP sends out an alert real time or before the appearance, regarding the info about what Kate is wearing! Other times some additional source or readers from here, have recognized the item or brand & have alerted Charlotte. I'm guessing that kind of info, when found out, can spread like wildfire through the Press Pool! :)

      Delete
    2. Thank you! It's such a mystery to me because I've never gotten into fashion as much as some. I feel like a 3 year old! I'm amazed that someone can see a coat and know who made it in cases where KP doesn't announce it. I'm learning so much. :)

      Delete
    3. Just going by what the royal reporters report via their Twitter accounts as they are covering the events and trips, Becca (and Charlotte) are right, KP usually sends out some announcement. If they don't, some member of the entourage that travels with the royal couple will either tell reporters or themselves hand out a small announcement of the brands.

  18. In a way, I'm happy this tour is over because she keeps coming out with new coats every day...this one is blah, good colour but seen it in different colours already.

I know a lot of people already discussed this but I can't get my head around why she is sitting in a coat inside, especially when it is not a tour at school but looks like a discussion, same as the other day in Sweden, moreover she is wearing that new brand and that dress looks lovely. Look at the sleeves of the coat and it photographs so badly. She doesn't send a good message with it at all.

    6. This fixation on whether she wears a coat insde is a red herring. The queen keeps her coat on inside as well.

      Delete
    7. For all those who are agitated because Kate did not take her coat off and want to see more of the lovely dress she was wearing underneath, take a few breaths and calm down. In this post, there are pictures of a model perfectly showing the dress. Please look all you want. Need to look some more? Please go to the website of the dress designer, ByTimo, and keep on looking. I think that many times people forget that the Duchess of Cambridge is not a fashion model. Surely, she has a perfectly good reason for why sometimes she keeps her coat on indoors. It only has to make sense to her, and she does not have to inform the public at large of why she does things this or that way. Kate and William just completed a week-long tour of Sweden and Norway, and they both did an outstanding job of it as usual. Clothes are not that important. What counts is: how happy, delighted and welcoming the huge crowds were to see them everywhere they went; how warmly and friendly they were received by the monarchs of both countries; and how truly charming and natural Kate and William are with everyone. Superbly well-done by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

A week long tour? It was 4 days. I wish a working week lasted only that...:)

The only problem here that she is not an ordinary person visiting "family", she was there on a royal tour, moreover a post Brexit tour, and I suppose the point of the whole tour was not that she's gonna have a few days off to enjoy herself.

I still think it looks bad and rude to those who welcome you with open arms while standing outside in a jumper.

      Delete
    9. I agree that it was odd - and obvious. It's not a major crisis but it's just strange that she at least wouldn't unbutton the coat (if the interior was cooler than she expected). Leaving it buttoned clear up to the neck while indoors and supposedly partaking in an event makes it appear that she's anxious to leave or not fully interested in whatever the event is.

  19. Thank you Charlotte for the very quick updates. I always wake up to very pleasant pictures and stories. Kate is such a gem. I imagine it must be very tiring doing these tours during your third trimester when you barely get much sleep. 21. Love the coat. This is another color she looks lovely in. Wish she would have taken off the coat to show off the dress underneath, particularly as it's a Norwegian brand. I know that a topic of great debate here and I'm 50/50 on it. Sometimes it makes sense, other times it does not. Today, as she was wearing a Norwegian brand underneath, it would have been nice to take off the coat.

Overall, this tour has provided some great fashion. Even the two Erdem's which were not that great, in my opinion, provided for great debate. It's nice to hear other's opinions on such fashion statements.

  22. What a lovely colour this coat is - and another combination of the country's flag colours! (Red and blue mixed to make purple in Norway and Blue and yellow mixed to make green in Sweden). I'm not sure about the puffed shoulder detail - it makes it look a bit like she's shrugging all the time, but I do love the colour and the lovely dress underneath.

All in all, with the limitations of the freezing weather and a pregnancy bump to account for, I think Kate has played a blinder on this tour. Yes, the two Erdem pieces were not to my taste at all, but I think she really is growing into her role. At times she has looked truly regal and she and William seem to have struck up a real bond with the Swedish royals in particular. I'm sure it won't be too long before they invite them to the UK for a visit.

I'm sad that the tour is almost over, but at least there are a couple of engagements to look forward to when they get back. I can't wait.

  25. Love it!! She definitely looks better in Norway than Sweden. What I don't get is how she can go from looking like a pregnant queen yesterday to not looking pregnant at all in my opinion today. I love burgundy browns on her and the Tod's suede heels. It's an accessible look even if the individual items are well above my personal price point...

    1. I think it's a combination of angle, cut, and color. Kate often looks not-pregnant from the front and you can only tell from the side. I have a friend like this. I also think when she is sitting, the babe is pressed more into her spine- I still recall that carriage photo from Trooping with George, it was like her bump vanished. Last night's dress was empire cut and designed to highlight her bump, whereas this was not, plus the dark color always slims.

  27. Plum (purple?) is a refreshing change for a military style coat, also a nice change from the usual blue for Kate. This seems another color which suits her. Not sure about the black opaque hose with the plum. She doesn’t do brown opaque either. Black accessories seem the safest choice for the plum for official duty, stuck with it? The dress is a practically comfortable dress with its ¾ length sleeves, high neck, and defined waist and flared. It makes accessorizing it easier and an all-day go to kind of dress. It is a nice introduction to Norwegian design and style without an exuberantly unaffordable price.

The following link is one of the samples of SKAM. If judging from the first video, the visit to SKAM studio as part of a royal tour hosted by Norwegian royals, and arranged by foreign ministry of UK seems open to acknowledge some reality of the millennium, its generation, the times, and politics and social issues through their young lens.

  33. The idea of what looks like a bedding dust raffle on that large a living room table looks like a cross between a bed and a skirted casket. To have refreshments on top of it and socialize is an irony between a wake, and leisurely meals in bed. Every interior decorating is not necessarily for everyone, but this is bad (sorry if I sound harsh / it is a personal opinion). May be it makes an unusual setting for a great writer or a poet to accommodate a movie script. Still, with appreciation to let viewers into their living room, this post is respectful of their own personal taste.

    2. AAW- It is ovious that, either they will be leaving soon (guessing from Kate's coat wear in-doors), or it is a living room gathering before they move to the dining area. What I had been curious, is if it is a part of Norwegian traditional furnishing of a look for the not coffee table looking "table". What do you call that?

      Delete
    3. Julia from Leominster2 February 2018 at 23:07

I like the coat but not taking it off, especially for the photos at the crown prince's home, is very odd to me. No wonder she's cold as she wears it inside and then goes out. Most likely those photos were taken when they arrived - I would think they changed for the ski events before leaving. It seems pointless to wear a dress by a Norwegian designer and then not show it - rather like the times she carries a tartan scarf.

That piece of furniture is a pouffe and they are very of the moment - William and Kate have one too. I couldn't possibly even if I wished, for the spaniels would think it a dog bed! I don't think of it as traditionally Norwegian - the most traditional Norwegian homes I've been in tend to have low tables - but higher than a drinks table, surrounded by chairs and possibly a sofa - often two or more such sets in a room. But that is an older look and modern houses and flats have all styles.

A very nice set of engagements today - and I love Milly Kakao.

    4. Julia, Thanks. Then the idea is like the contemporary Ottoman coffee table. As the length and width at the royal couple’s Norway residence looks a much bigger size, may be the table skirting could have draped ¼ of it all fancied up from the edge, length wise, and show the bottom ¾ of the table material coordinated, or contrasted with other furnishings. Pouffe by definition is a seat, as Ottoman also is a seat. Then pouffe is like the larger version of the Ottoman.

      Delete
    5. I had never heard of an Ottoman coffee table (I was thinking brass trays!) but yes, that's what it is now I've been able to google it. I notice Mary of Denmark has one in her sitting room too, and also has books piled on it. I believe it was originally meant that you could sit on it or perhaps even put your feet on it, obviously impossible with candles. I have seen them in homes with piles of books and even a teacup set upon the books - rather odd to me - although anything I had would probably be piled with books, if not spaniels, for lack of book room.

As for Kate, I think she should have had her coat off for the photo, and then she could have asked for it back and put it around her shoulders or perhaps be given a throw if she was chilled. I believe part of the problem is she chooses thin dresses to make for a better line under the coats - and they aren't suitable for the weather - after the pregnancy, coatdresses might serve better - she does always look as if she is planning to rush off any moment - 'can't stop long, so sorry...' not the best image.

Mette-Marit looked quite wonderful. I don't always like her style but her use of separates is marvellous.

    6. What looks like the Pouffe of a current trend, in this case might be a vintage Scandinavian table, custom padded for a temporary up date, and dressed to their preference. (I found out mid-century Scandinavian coffee tables tend to be, from average to the largest, close to this one). Their reception /living room otherwise looks serene, with comfortably practical space which the large coffee table allowed, and also filled at the same time. The side mini library is nicely accessible within the area. What looks like granite marble fireplace mantel and the antique looking clock add prominence to their home. It was gracious of them to share their private living area with the public. It allows reasonable access into their private life as well as national image, sometimes reflected in people’s homes. In the world of diplomatic visits, I think it should be shared as a representative profile among other highlights.

Milly Kakao is a star with his own book, just like Milly, former FLOTUS Barbara Bush’s dog. Your pup Pip is a star here, on this blog, and may be too spoiled at home. The name reminds me of the character from Charles Dickens book, Great Expectations.

I love the cut and style of the Norwegian designer’s dress. May be Kate will wear it in the future. Your comment about that was on point.

  34. Wait, she went to lunch in someone's home and kept her coat on?!? I don't like, but could buy into the theory of leaving her coat on during engagements for security but seriously? I sincerely hope that coat came off once the photographers left. Otherwise, I liked the look. Nothing fancy just a good basic pretty dress and coat.

You can't really believe that she ate with the coat on?! The staged pics for the public are taken as they arrive or leave. Of course they did not dine at the ruffled coffee table--it is covered with décor! Naturally, they took time for personal grooming, comfortable dining, etc. out of the public eye. It is silly to believe that the pictures we see are the entire story.

    4. Yes, you maybe all right but the thing is you can see photos of them arriving to the lucheon, wearing coats both of them outside. Then, inside only Kate has a coat on. So either she is cold or something else going on in her mind. I read that I think it was an Express article which stated that she does not remove of her coat bc it is protocol. This is completely ridiculous...

      Delete
    5. I agree with you, Army Wife, but it’s a bit of a waste for her to go to the trouble of getting a Norwegian-designed dress and then not manage to get photographed in it.

That was the article about, right. But I suppose as long as she looks happy and delighted and warm and a huge crowd is there to welcome her, she can do what she wants. All the effort, tax payers money spent on her working wardobe etc. and rest matter not.

  36. Many women are warm, bordering on overheated, during their third trimester. How in the world can Kate sit indoors fully buttoned up in a coat?? Just last night she was sleeveless!

I wonder if the staff at the palace approached her, "Mam, can I take your coat?" Or do you suppose they were warned not to?

  38. My first reaction was "Where's Kate's Bump"?? She's seems to have an amazing retractable bump! lol Looking at the first pics of her straight on, She doesn't even look pregnant, to me! Especially compared to last night? I really like this coat & look! What I love Most is the chat she had with that Gentleman about The Sciences & where she went for her schooling. We Actually got to see a real conversation & it was so cool hearing how she really talks conversationally! I have 2 favorite phrases, complete with her facial expressions & mannerisms, "In Scotland, Miles Away" & "That's where I met My William"! :) It was interesting when she shared that she had focused on Physics & Biology, while at MC! Great Engagement! I love CPH & CPMM's Home! (really cool shaped glassware on the settee) I do hope some photos come out showing Kate with her coat off, & we get to see the dress. I can't imagine she'd keep her coat on during their whole lunch? Thanks again Charlotte, for such Wonderful Coverage! :)

  39. I must say I've really enjoyed this tour, Thank you Charlotte for the fantastic coverage and background to each event as it occurs, it's been excellent.

They seem to have really enjoyed themselves here over the last fours days and maybe that's to do with the varied itinerary and a good focus on things they seem to be passionate about. Much as I enjoyed seeing the children on the last tours, this time all their focus has been on the business at hand maybe? and have been able to cram a lot more in. I think the mix of European royalty has added an extra bit of sparkle to this too, and it's been fascinating to find out more about them.

W&K seem to be finding their feet more and more too. Maybe this last year with William becoming the full time royal has helped, added to which their projects are gaining momentum now and they both seem to have found an energy and confidence in their Royal life.

Part of me thinks they should have done this before settling down and had a year or two of just getting experience of these types of tours making positive connections with other royal counterparts and peers etc... But I don't begrudge how they have taken their time and concentrated on developing their own family and building a solid relationship.

Fashionwise, today I think was pretty classic Catherine and worked well. The dress underneath was interesting too and a great nod again to the host country, shame we didnt get to see it so far in all it's glory but I'll await pics.

    1. ali, I completely agree and came away with the same sense of love for Mette-Marit's style as well as her warm and beautiful demeanor. King Harald was particularly endearing, but both of the families of the monarchies have been charming hosts to William and Kate. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the interaction between William and Kate and the young royal couples, and I think they are good examples, models to follow. The Scandinavian monarchies seem to have a natural and easy-going connection to their country and people and a respect for their duty to the same. This entire Scandinavian tour has left me with a newfound appreciation and fascination for the countries and their people. It has been a successful tour and I hope that life-long friendships have been forged!! cc

  44. I have read that Norway's royal family is "enormously popular" in their country--looked at two polls that ranged between 82%-93% in favor of the Norwegian monarchy and especially King Harald. I can understand that, he does look like a big teddy bear, reminds me of my Great Uncle Thorvald who was also from Oslo. Mette Marit and Haakon are so attractive as well--their demeanor calls to me in my soul, I am not speaking of their looks, although they are certainly attractive in that way. And, after looking at the Royal family albums that you so helpfully provided links to, Charlotte, I am further enchanted by them. So at ease. I actually tried to find some negative press about them but I couldn't (maybe because I can't read Norwegian but maybe because there isn't any.) I do remember a lot of criticism of Mette Marit's past when Haakon proposed to her and the courage with which she faced the cameras and won over the nation. And her honesty in admitting to her issues with vertigo (something I get from time to time too and it is awful.)
I wonder though, regarding the Norwegian Royals' popularity, whether that is also because Norway has a very high standard of living--small gap between rich and poor, poverty rate low, wage rate high.... Or maybe it is because Norwegians are a generally positive people, less concerned with being "with it" and more concerned with just enjoying life. Maybe one of our Norwegian readers would be better equipped to comment. At any rate, it was a lovely tour and I really enjoyed the background as always Charlotte. Now put your feet up and don't worry about the polls for awhile ;)

    1. I was wondering the same thing about Catherine wearing her coat during the lunch. Her dress looked lovely so it’s a shame if she kept it covered up the entire time. Also it just seems a bit odd when William had removed his.

    2. Kate looked huddled and cold sitting on the sofa. I was surprised that she did not bundle up for the walkabout, as she had previously. Apparently Kate commented about the biting cold. She probably removed her coat when they went to the dining room for lunch. I also thought that she looked tired in the plum color, but vibrant in her orange and white parka.

  46. Beautiful coat but so uncomfortable for being that pregnant!! And I agree - take it off inside for goodness sake. It makes no sense. I have also wondered how the fashions get identified so quickly. How do they do that????

  47. Ok, I’ve got to comment here! Kate’s coat was beautiful. This style on her is gorgeous. Of course once I find a style I will buy every color in the same pair of boots or shirts etc. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Plus think of all the clothes she does have! After a while I would think it would b hard to shop and keep buying different things when your eye does naturally stray to blue, red or black.😊 All my shirts look alike! I am comfortable w a certain style and it’s hard for me to pick out different styles. Yes I get upset when the style changes! Kate’s in a tough spot with the world watching her every move. She handles it beautifully!
Like Kate, I’m in my 3rd pregnancy. I am not as tall or as far along, however I do not look pregnant from behind or based on what’s being worn, pregnant from the side. It’s just one of those things. Everyone’s bodies are different and exercise plays a key in how you carry.(unless you’re extremely short then you’re probably gonna grow out and that’s that!).
Now I may be pregnant but I am always COLD!! At night I might get a little warm. I sleep w an electric blanket folks!!! 😊
But I always keep my coat on inside and outside. My husband always looks at me like I’m crazy.
It’s just one of those things. Kate just might be cold!
This tour has been awesome. Charlotte you’ve done a wonderful job. Don’t you have a full time job as well Charlotte? How do you do it?

Congratulations on your 3rd pregnancy!! Sounds like all is going well which makes me happy. I totally agree with your comments: it must have been tough for the Duchess to find clothing for this trip while being 6 months pregnant, but I think she did fabulous. This leg of the trip seems to have been the most enjoyable for both and the Norwegian Royal family seem easy to get to know, besides, they are family. Also, I might be biased but I think Catherine is at her loveliest when she is expecting: hope you are too!!

Best of luck with your pregnancy!!

  53. Beautiful, and what nice conversations she had on the walkabout. Kate seems to be very kind; my favorite thing about her. I like the coat, although it was not a show-stopper for me. I wish we had gotten to see the whole dress on her! I bet it looked fabulous, and I think having her coat off would have made the royal couples' visit at Skaugum appear more relaxed and natural.

It seems like the tour has been a great success. On the fashion front, I thought her day dresses were spectacular while her evening wear was my least favorite of her choices. And now, I bet she is looking forward to a weekend relaxing at home! Thank you, Charlotte, for your terrific coverage. :)

  54. I am guilty of not taking my coat off, too. I have always been that way -- I know people don't like it but I am almost always freezing. If I could choose an indoor temperature, it would be 78F! I'm assuming that's Kate's deal, too. I agree with everyone who wishes she'd find a solution (maybe a nice warm scarf?) but I'm also sympathetic to her.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think Kate is cold most of the time, hence she does not remove her coat while indoors. Maybe in Norway and Sweden she could have opted to wear jumpers underneath like Mette-Marit. This must be the reason for the many coat dresses she has. Mere dresses may not be protective enough in extremely air-conditioned indoors or in the kind of climate like Luxembourg.

  60. I do like the coat, especially with what I imagine that dress looks like underneath, but maybe it’s time for a new glove option... I like the Cornelia James gloves in general, but some coats seem to call for a sleeker, more sophisticated glove. Just some classic black suede or soft black leather might be nice, especially in the freezing cold.
Just nit-picking, of course, because I do generally like this look and think the plum is a nice color choice!

  62. I found it odd that everyone in that indoor shot, only Kate still had her outdoor coat on - everyone else (including Wills) had gotten 'indoor' comfy, except Kate. Would have liked to have seen how the dress she wore looked. Again, the dress seems MM inspired and not something that Kate maybe would have picked out herself. I am not a fan of this coat at all and wish that Kate would not wear the D & G brand as much as she does. It's not always the best politically correct type fashion house. Seemed Kate really felt warmth with MM and H, more so than she did with the Swed counterparts.

I do wonder if seeing other younger royals and their interactions with each other and the public may shift their own. Will & Kate and most of the BRF always seem so stoic and it can seem impersonal to me but seeing them these past few days with their contemporaries of other families, I can’t help but hope that they bring a new viewpoint home with them and continue to carve their own niche.

    1. I think royals, in general, should maintain a degree of mystery and not behave like celebrities. Otherwise, who needs the monarchy? With that said, I think William and Kate's approach with the public is spot on. They have a degree of formality that doesn't cross familiarity but are also approachable and engaging. I might say it's the perfect balance for their future roles.

  68. An interesting tour to be sure. I would really, really like to see William and Kate be as relaxed and at ease as their counterparts in Sweden and Norway.
There was a lot of talk in the lead up to their wedding that William and Kate would be a new breed of royal and bring a breath of fresh air into the stuffy, antiquated English royal family.
The place where there IS a new breed of royal bringing a breath of fresh air into the monarchy is in places like Sweden and Norway. In England, we're still waiting for that to happen.
As for the clothing, Kate seems to lose her sense of style when she gets to the last trimester of her pregnancies (with the exception of the last engagement of her first pregnancy and that marvelous Hobbs Dalmatian print coat!). She just heads toward the poufy, tenty, shapeless pieces in strange colors or awkward prints. The fashion on this tour certainly wins points for being expensive but as for stylish or flattering? Not so much.
I am also a lot curious about why, given the cold that she commented on and given her pregnancy, given the snowy, icy conditions, why she didn't go with some of her incredible collection of stylish and sturdy boots or even some new ones? The Tod's pumps are nice and no doubt sturdy but they seem an odd choice for very cold weather and slick footing.
