It's a Green Hobbs Repeat & Maple Leaf Tartan for Whitehorse Arrival!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew to Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport this afternoon for the second leg of the day following their visit to Kelowna which saw them undertake several engagements in the city on Okanagan Lake.

The couple were well wrapped up upon arrival with the temperature at just six degrees celsius.

Their Royal Highnesses were greeted by the Canadian Rangers and Junior Rangers. The Canadian Rangers are a sub-component of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Reserve and are the military’s eyes and ears in the north. They provide patrols and detachments for national security and public safety missions in sparsely settled northern, coastal and isolated areas of Canada that cannot be conveniently or economically covered by other parts of the CAF. William and Harry were made honorary members of this reserve unit in 2009.

Chief Bill and Chief Kane welcomed William and Kate to the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre for a showcase of Yukon's thriving performing arts.

The Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre is a centrepiece of downtown Whitehorse. Situated on the banks of the Yukon River, the centre features cultural exhibits and local First Nations art.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge viewed "Land of Gold – A Yukon Cultural Celebration", which highlighted the diversity and depth of Yukon’s cultural scene. Dancers, drummers and musicians from a variety of genres and backgrounds shared their songs and stories in a dynamic performance.

A video of a young boy named Evan - who said his family has lived in Yukon for generations - giving Prince William and Kate a book written by his great-granduncle as a gift.

After the show, performers from the cultural celebration met The Duke and Duchess.

William and Kate will spend tonight in Whitehorse ahead of a busy day of engagements tomorrow. It's the only night of the tour they will be away from George and Charlotte at Government House in Victoria. The couple are staying in the three-star The Coast High Country Inn in Yukon where rooms cost in the region of £95 -£150 per night.

The hotel is described as "rustic":

'The Yukon is home to explorers and adventurers of all kinds, and what better place to launch your own expedition to Whitehorse than from than the Coast High Country Inn.
Our quiet downtown location is right next to Jim Light Park and within walking distance to the restaurants, bars, and boutiques of Main Street. Not to mention, we’re just a block away from the famous Yukon River. And if you’re staying on business, you’ll be happy to know our hotel adjoins the Yukon Convention Centre.
As for our accommodations: we have a range of well-appointed, recently renovated rooms for you to choose from, including Jacuzzi, kitchenette and pet-friendly options. All of our rooms feature complimentary Wi-Fi and coffee, and you’ll have access to our fitness and business centers as well as our airport shuttle. When it’s time to unwind, you’ll want to take The Deck, serving up rustic fare on one of the most impressive patios in the city.'

The Duchess brought back her much loved Hobbs London Persephone Trench Coat this evening. She debuted it at the annual St Patrick's Day Parade in 2014.

The pine green trench coat originally retailed for £279 and was described: "Choose the Persephone trench in pine green for understated elegance. The cut and sew design, raw edges, traditional storm flap and epaulette detailing provide plenty of contemporary cool."

Hobbs London

The Duchess added her own green belt to the coat as she did when she wore it in 2014.

It very much looks like Kate wore the Dolce & Gabbana Pocket Watch Dress underneath, which would make perfect sense, and she likely decided to coordinate the coat with the ensemble she was wearing rather than changing.

A look at Kate wearing the bottle green dress earlier today alongside a product shot of the original design. It remains available at My Theresa in most sizes.

As a nod to her host country - Kate carried a maple leaf tartan scarf.

The maple leaf tartan was designed in 1964 by David Weiser to commemorate the new Canadian flag and declared an official national emblem of Canada in 2011. The four colours reflect the colours of the maple leaf as it changes through the season - green in the spring and summer, gold in the early autumn, red at the first frost, and brown after falling.

Kate wore many of the same pieces as earlier today, including her L.K. Bennett Fern Pumps and Nina Clutch.

Kate's lovely new £125 Monica Vinader Siren Wire Earrings. The organic, irregular shaped multi-faceted green onyx gemstone is encased in 18ct gold-plated vermeil on sterling silver. You can read about them in more detail in today's earlier post.

And Kate wore her Cartier Ballon Bleu watch again.

    1. I once had a skirt in the maple leaf tartan back in the 60s. Wish Kate had actually used the scarf in whatever way would be flattering. To just be carrying it, seems rather pointless.

    1. I think Rebecca Deacon carries that kind of stuff. I've always thought Kate carries a clutch just so she has something to do with her hands, not out of necessity!

    3. Wish she would get rid of it. She carries it on her stomach all the time. She could do a little one handled bag to carry in one hand.

  7. I have noticed that Kate's "look" for this tour has a very 50's vibe which I love! From the blue Jenny Packham dress she wore upon arrival to last night's red dress and now today's look, its very 50's inspired. If one looks at all of her dresses over the past year or so, it will be clear that thr hemlines have been lengthened. Perhaps due to instruction from the queen?

Personally I think that Kate has realised that she is no longer in the newlywed phase. She has realised that she a role as a future queen and as wife and mother to 2 future kings. Hence the regal 50's style.

Bravo Kate, her style is elegance and class at its finest.
And because she has thee most fabulous figure, anything will look good on her, especially because she is tall, regardless of the length. She pulls it off beautifully.

    Love from Avee in SA

    1. I don't think hemlengths or the retro style has much to do with the queen and only mildly to do with her role. I think it is what is being sold in the stores. Fashion is very rugged with crop tops right now OR long skirts and 50s silouettes. She has always followed the more conservative fashions so makes sense that this change has been happening these years.

    2. I don't like the nude accessories with this coat, they look odd. I don't like the earrings either, for $240, they look it. Actually they remind me of costume jewelry from Walmart. The green is nice because it goes with the outfits though! Not sure about her dress lengths, avee in sa. Possibly instructions? but the mcqueen dress was pretty short. I think she should be in hitting the knee, or long. I don't like medi lengths on anyone though, but she is 34, so I think the 5" or so above the knee just doesn't look right anymore. Nor do her skinny jeans. Just doesn't look right anymore imo.

      Delete
    3. At 34 she can wear lenght above the knee. She is Young.

    4. I wanted to reply to anonymous 03:22 but the function isn't working for me for some reason.

I think the whole hemline/Queen think was an invention of the press, probably the Daily Mail. Hemlines are longer this season generally although remember the red and white McQueen from a couple of days ago.

If you think the Queen doesn't approve of shorter hemlines have a look at some photos of her and Anne from the 70s.

    5. I was watching some of The Canadian News Coverage via CTV & Their Fashion Correspondants are saying that The Retro Look is Very Spot On & That Kate Carries it off Amazing Well. Just wanted to share that tidbit. :)

    6. I have extensive experience purchasing high-quality jewelry, including many gold pieces from Italy, and I can tell you that $240 can buy a very nice pair of earrings, even with today's high cost of gold, so let us not get silly and claim that everything the Duchess wears has to cost thousands of dollars in order to be appropriate. Her earrings may not be to your taste, but the fact that they cost two hundred dollars and not two thousand does not make them look like they come from Walmart.

  8. I LOVE the maple leaf tartan. What a nice and rather subtle but clear way to honour the country.

Glad to see this coat again. It works way better for this kind of casual engagement than her last wearing. The nude looks a bit odd with this look but, meh. Small quibble.

Also glad she didn't change into a whole new look. This seemed more sensible.

I watched the show tonight and must be a nice break between all the official speeches. Have been so many official people at all their engagemetns so it has been a bit tedious with speech after speech of platitudes, I must say. But I get why it is, and am happy that they have been accompanied and recived by so many officials! But not the most riveting thing to watch livestreams of so was happy with a little nice entertainment to wrap the day up.

Also, I've not said, but thank you so much for all the mork you're doing. Your a star, dear Charlotte!

I know what you mean Rebecca, Mr Leo is always grumbling about me looking at my laptop or sending a comment in the middle of the night. I'm a bit of an insomniac.

It's all very nice. I like the coat. I like the dress and coat together and I do like the length. To me short full skirts - like the red and white one are just too little girlish. (I don't mind short as much on a straight skirt.) I don't believe it has anything to do with the queen - but I thought the green is a very good length on Kate.

But I do feel the neutral accessories being wrong with the coat - one thing with the dress - I do think Kate needs some more interesting footwear - yes the queen wears the same thing now but she's ninety - she used to have much more variety - even some detail on the same shape of shoe would be nice and some proper evening shoes. But the clothes have been wonderful.

I'm sure she wore a dress because it was a double day of engagements but even so I think wearing dresses or good pants outfits rather than casual is important for all engagements unless they are physically active ones - such as expecting to walk in a rain forest. Most people will see Kate only once in their life and to be able to say - she wore a green dress, she wore a red or white one, is part of that memory. I can still see Diana in her tartan suit at Braemar and a gorgeous pink cocktail dress at Wembley - (my friend hated it) so something other than jeans and a tee really does make a difference even if it's dressier than what everyone else is wearing. (I may remember what Diana was wearing but I don't remember what I was wearing - almost certainly jeans at Braemar with a heavy jacket!)

On both those occasions, I was seeing Diana at a great distance and the same is true for many in those huge crowds that see Kate which is why and outfit that stands out in so important. I don't think it has to be in vivid colour like the queen does but it needs to be distinctive. So far, great on this tour.

  11. Excellent planning for a change of temperature! I would just have brought the green shoes along, even though there were quibbles about whether they matched. They would be better than nude with the warm coat.

    2. Love Catherine. I didn't like the green dress, but the coat was great the first time she worn it. I love the lenghts. Classic.
As long as I remember I have been posting...I wish she would dye her shoes to her outfit, including hand clutch.

  12. I am genuinely a big fan of Prince William so I hate to criticize, but, is it just me, or does he seem to struggle a bit with his wardrobe? He seems to always be either in a full suit and tie or in very casual pants. I am truly glad to see him finally wearing more modern fitting clothing, but perhaps someone should let him know that one can wear pleated dress pants WITH a blazer; it should not be a case of suit and tie or corduroys. His overly casual ensemble here makes the Duchess look overdressed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In the UK, blazers are an item of school uniform or worn by pompous men who are golf club members or retired military gents of a certain age. Not a good look for a young prince.

      Delete
    2. I absolutely agree - and I also think she has overdressed compared to the rest of the lot, not just him. A trouser suit would've looked great here. That little party clutch just underlines it.

      Delete
    3. I agree. On this tour he's worn some nice things so far, so I thought he was getting help dressing (by Kate and/ or Natasha Archer) but this was kind of a miss. The pants might have even been fine, if he hadn't worn the sweater but the perfect thing would have been dress pants and no sweater.
The main problem is that it doesn't go with Kate's outfit, which is much more formal, so yes, in pictures of them with casually dressed people, she does look overdressed but in pictures with people who are more formally dressed, he looks underdressed.

      Delete
    4. No man should ever wear pleated pants!

      Delete
    5. Okay, well, I made the comment and I'm from Canada, so please allow me to respectfully clarify/enlighten my friends from across the pond: in Canada, when referring to men's clothing, a blazer refers to a sport coat; if you're not familiar with that term, it's what William has been wearing. A blazer can also refer to a school uniform, but, needless to say, not in this case... As far as pleated pants, the word pleat is interchangeable with the word crease here.

      Delete
    6. Crease pants are out of fashion...

      Delete
  13. Let me also specify that this is the only area where I feel the Prince struggles with his wardrobe - his suits are impeccably tailored, and he was wearing proper length dress pants long before it was en vogue. His business casual attire is simply something I think he should tweak.

  14. I hope they get to take a nice family vacation to Mustique for a couple of weeks after they rest up from the tour. They haven't vacationed for quite awhile. (I know that not everyone will feel the same.)

  15. I love this coat. Gorgeous. But to me to me the shoes and purse are a real miss. Just off...Brown suede would be a lot better. And yes I think William looks a bit rumpled today. Still he's very attractive.

  16. i do like this coat always did, however this woman has no sence of color or style when it comes to shoes. i just don't understand it all summer all she seemed to wear were swede shoes this is the time of year she should be wearing them the green shoes would be better even though the greens don't match. even a nice pair of her boots sorry to ramble on about this but i think shoes round out the whole outfit one wears.

  18. Quite chilly there this evening, so happy to see that beautiful Hobbs London coat. I don't believe the midi length outfits she has chosen are dictated by the Queen. That length is all in style this year, and shown in all the fashion layouts. Since she has a model's height and slimness, she can wear them with aplomb. I personally love her style. She is one beautiful lady.

  19. This time he is not wearing corduroys , if not pleated dress pants , however the crease is out of fashion...

  20. You Gotta Love "Kate's Things"! :) I liked her dress today & guessed that she went with the beautiful Pine color as one of the choices you could make if one was going to Vineyard Country. However, when she stepped off the plane in Whitehorse it All made sense, as the dress matched perfectly with her Pine Hobbs Coat accented by her Maple Leaf Tartan Scarf! The Pine is such a nod to the beautiful Pine Forests of The Yukon & What better accent than The Maple Leaf Tartan! Another Kate Hit! I love The Ensemble & Kate looks Beautiful as Always! :) I was able to Live Stream The Afternoon Events Live via CTV & it was Delightful watching Will & Kate having a Blast at The Volley Ball Game at UBC, Chatting it up with The Student Athletes & then Clearly enjoying themselves at The Food & Wine Festival, Enjoying Tastes of Food & Wine, while Chatting up all The Vendors etc. They Obviously lit up Everyone's Day! :) Can't Wait for The Children's Tea Party! :) xo

  21. Very beautiful coat, but the whole look a bit drab, imo. Especially with the nude shoe. Interesting to wear forest green two days in a row, but I love the color. Kate is so classic, it's such a pleasure to see her handle all of these occasions with such poise and enthusiasm. Wills needs to work on his wardrobe - banish those khaki pants please, a tall man looks better and more polished in dark pants - even dark wash jeans would be nicer than these too-short, wrinkled Docker-type pants that anyone would wear on a weekend. Also, the blue jacket is ok, but not two days in a row, can't someone help him find some gorgeous jackets, blazers, a modern suit, some jeans and some not-suede shoes - he is so handsome and with a little advice could really look like the modern prince that he is! Love them both. xo

  23. I've always liked this coat so am glad to see it appear on this tour, and think it works well with the lovely green dress. I love the earrings too and it's nice to see the mix of 'organic' shapes (like the pearl earrings earlier) with the more structured attire. I love the maple leaf tartan and the story behind the colors that are used in it.

As an aside, I work for an architectural firm in the US and must say that the cultural center they visited is a gorgeous building. I really like the screen appearance of the right side and wonder if that has a cultural basis somehow. I'm sure the architectural firm who designed the building would have a design statement saying why that is there.

  24. I feel cold just looking at them! Agree with those saying the nude shoes look horrible with the coat. I think the green is actually making the shoes photograph more pink instead of nude, so it looks as if she threw a cold weather coat over a spring or summer dress. I love the concept behind the tartan.

  25. Oops, to recant some of my earlier post - I didn't realize it was the same day. So the outfit isn't as meh as I thought. I just loved that D & G green dress, and this coat is the perfect topper. :) And as for Will's fashion - his pants aren't as rumpled as I implied - he looks fairly sharp, but I'd still prefer dark pants, regular leather shoes not suede, a dark jacket, and on these more casual occasions some great dark jeans and hip boots - simple, classic, but modern! They look like they are having a lot of fun, can't wait to see the kids again!

  28. Like the coat, not the belt she pairs with it. Do not like the inexpensive looking earrings. Prefer if the bespoke version of the dress had used either the original buttons or something different from the big round gold/brass ones they substituted. Agree the watch detail might not have worked for Catherine but without some type of hip element to it the bow tie and sleeves make it look little girlish to me. Agree with someone who suggested her brown suede shoes and a brown clutch would have been a good look. Not a fan of the color of her nude shoes with the dress. Love the tartan scarf. She looks great. I think William has been doing a great job with his clothing, has had a few misses, but he is at least mixing it up a bit:) ali
