Heads Together Engagement, a Trip to Balmoral & Our Stylists' Tour Looks for Kate (Part Two)

Hello, dear readers!

We're back with our second batch batch of 'Choose Your Dream Tour Looks for Kate', but first a brief look at the latest news updates. Kensington Palace has announced the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge "will go back to school" to see how children are supported through changes. William and Kate will meet pupils and parents at Stewards Academy, Essex - a school working with Heads Together charity partner and Kate's patronage Place2Be -  next Friday, 16 September.

The Cambridges traditionally travel to Balmoral towards the end of the summer to enjoy time with the Royal family in the Scottish highlands before the Queen returns to London for a busy autumn/winter schedule. William and Kate adore the outdoors and Balmoral offers the royals a private retreat in stunning surroundings. For ITV's documentary marking the Queen's 90th, Princess Eugenie described it as "the most beautiful place on earth".

Hello! reports the family of four will stay there for a week and will no doubt be discussing their upcoming trip to Canada:

'The Cambridges are making the most of the end of summer and will soon head to Balmoral in Scotland for a short break, HELLO! understands. Prince William and Kate, and their two children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will enjoy some private time with their family ahead of a busy autumn – which includes a royal tour to Canada.
The Cambridges will be relaxing and catching up with the Queen and Prince Philip, who have spent the summer at their sprawling estate in the Scottish Highlands. William, Kate, George and Charlotte are expected to stay for a week.
The couple are perhaps using their downtime at Balmoral to swap anecdotes and stories with the Queen and Prince Philip. Canada remains one of Her Majesty's favourite destinations and she has visited the Commonwealth country over 20 times.'

When the royals will travel is not known, however, it is rather likely we'll see them attending Sunday service at Crathie Kirk during their stay. Below we see William and Kate arriving for the service last year.

Next, we have news of a favourite item restocked at L.K. Bennett.

Kate's much-loved L.K. Bennett Jude jacket has been reissued under the new name Judi. The Judi jacket in evergreen retails for £225. The classic piece features a peplum silhouette, coordinated belt and collarless design.

L.K. Bennett

Below we see the matching Judi skirt and the Saskia dress (an updated version of the Davina dress Kate wore with the jacket). It's a fantastic suit; very professional yet youthful and on trend. I do hope we see Kate's ensemble again.

L.K. Bennett

Also, Lela Rose is still taking pre-orders for Kate's Double Faced Twill Elbow Sleeve Dress. The blush dress is being sold for $777. One important note for those interested in the piece: there's an 8-12 week wait due to demand.

The Modern Boot Cut Jeans are styled with the Me + Em Luxe Henley Tee, a  plaid vest from Eddie Baeur,  Wedge Boots from Sorel (which was founded in Canada. Rebecca, Sweden - "My first looks is technically one look but that pulls double duty. It's for a scenario of them deplaning with the kids (hence no clutch to handle!) and then a change of event to a more cocktail-ish reception (with removal of hat and coat). I've added the maple leaf brooch but not on the coat, but on the dress!" We have the red coatdress by Eponine London styled with Kate's Gina Foster Pillbox Hat placed on her standard chignon (both removed after arrival). Below, the Jenny Packham Beaded Draped Column Gown teamed with the Jimmy Choo Vamp Sandals, the Jenny Packham Casa Clutch, Kate's wedding Robinson Pelham earrings and Kate's art deco bracelet.

Miol Mor - "Of course it is in Canada's red, but I sought one not having lace but rather being a little reminiscent of the dark teal dress the Duchess wore to the New York St Andrews reception." We have a sweeping red gown from J. M. Rouge with the Maple Leaf Brooch pinned on the dress. We have silver Jimmy Choo pumps, a sparkling clutch, the Queen's Diamond Chandelier Earrings and Queen Mary's Diamond Bar Choker Bracelet.

Casey H - The day look features Kate's Smythe Blazer with the Lush V-Neck Crepe Blouse, Joie Skinny Twill Cargo Pants, Steve Madden Holster Booties and the Coach Pebbled Leather Prairie Satchel. For an evening gala look, it's the St. John Shimmering Mermaid Gown styled with the Stuart Weitzman Nudsitsong Sandals, Kate's Cartier Diamond Tricolor Gold Trinity Hoop Earrings and the Multi Gold Russian Rings Necklace.

Elle - "Should Kate be attending a formal event in British Columbia or perhaps in the very beautiful city of Victoria I choose this rather romantic, long sleeve light blue gown from Jenny Packham. Pair it with her LK Bennet Pink Bow heels and those lovely pink Kiki McDonough Classic cushion drop earrings (the dress doesn't need much) and finishing with the bespoke Alexander McQueen clutch, similar to the brand’s Knuckle Box or Knuckle Duster clutch (originally carried with the other baby blue Packham)." For a visit to the Butchart Gardens, we have the Mackage Mai Belted Coat With Waterfall Collar in Rose styled with the Reiss Ailette Dress, Kate's L.K. Bennett Harper Suede Heels, Kate's diamond art-deco earrings and the Queen's pink diamond brooch with Canadian roots (Read the fascinating story behind it here).

Anett - A daytime look features an Erdem Pre-Fall 2016 dress with the designer's signature floral print styled with Jimmy Choo Romy Elaphe Pumps and Kate's sapphire and diamond earrings. For the gala look, we have a blue gown with a floral top from Jenny Packham's AW16 Collection. The gown is styled with Kate's (hugely popular) Jimmy Choo Vamp Sandals and jewels coming from the royal vault - the Dubai Looped Sapphire Demi-Parure.

We will be featuring all remaining submissions in a bumper 'Part 3' post, there's an array of stylish looks to come! In the meantime, we expect to see a detailed itinerary for the Canada tour released shortly - most likely within the next few days. It will be very interesting to see the events planned and of course engagements where George and Charlotte may make appearances. The tour is just over two weeks away now, are you all looking forward to it? :)

  1. Especially like the evening look by Christine USA. Also like Lauren fro NJ - normally I wouldn't think Kate would wear something that daring but after that Casossola dress, anything is possible :)

  2. I am so excited for the tour! 2 long tours in 1 year is something totally new for the Cambridges and for me it is a sign that they are 1 step closer to becoming full time royals. Gosh, the people of Canada are so lucky - they get to see them twice in 5 years, and they will bring George and Charlotte along!
Balmoral sounds like the perfect way to end summer and blend into autumn - it is a pity that I do not have a castle in the Scottish highlands for me ;D

If it is not too much work to still change it... there is a smallmistake in my look. The shoes should be in black semi matte satin, but everytime I copy the link where they are black and try the link again, it leads me to this ivory colour unfortunately. Would it be possible to change the colour of the shoes to black? It is the first colour available in those small images down below : http://www.vincecamuto.com/imagine-devin-–-satin-crisscross-strap-sandal/IM-DEVIN.html?siteID=J84DHJLQkR4-9NNb8muE76oaJDPZDzgZxA
Or this link here should lead you to an image in the right colour: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=164307170

And here would be the matching pearl bracelet: http://www.blingjewelry.com/bling-jewelry-14k-yellow-gold-bar-freshwater-pearl-tin-cup-bracelet-9in.html

Thank you Charlotte for keeping us busy diring the time before the tour starts! I love browsing through all the lovely outfits andhope that somehow, Kate will one day find out about this and buy some of these pieces!!

But would it still be possible to change the colour of the shoes to black? Thanks!!

  5. Mary from TN, I LOVE your outfit. So perfect in every way and SO classic. And, of course, being from TN, you could not leave out riding boots. :)
Beautiful boots, beautiful outfit that Kate should really try.

Elle, I really like your daywear choices also. Very sexy and romantic.

Smiley, that gown is SO unusual and pretty. The design of the back of the dress is amazing.
You guys, you have to see the back of this dress. Kate needs this dress. Kate, buy this dress, please.

Everyone's choices were beautiful and thoughtful, but these are my favorites.

Balmoral is such a wonderful castle and I am sure the kids will enjoy spending some time with their family in Scotland! Do you think they will take them to church there? Or will we only see pics of Kate and William there? (If we are lucky to get some!)
I cannot wait for the Canada tour! I think it is so romantic that they return to the Country they visited as newlyweds with George and Charlotte now. Hopefully, we will get some events with a Focus on the kids, like the playdate in NZ and the zoo in Australia. I think I read in a comment on the Choose your Dream Tour Look post that one Person suggested an Outfit for a zoo not far from Vancouver... this would be great !

Now on to the most fascinating part: THE OUTFITS! I love looking at how wonderfully creative all of you are. Kate could really find some great Inspiration here!

Downton Abbey Fan: your Looks might be my favourites of all (and I usually hesitate to say something like that)! Your daywear Outfit is so pretty, I love the jewelry you combined and the Dress is perfectly autumnal. And if the clutch was not as expensive, I'd love to have it. And your Gala Ensemble: WOW! The beading on the gown is gorgeous and the Robinson Pelham Pearl and Diamond earrings are so Kate, she definitely Needs them! (William, are you taking notes?) Superb Outfits!

Sophia: I love the red Dress and I am stunned by the brooch, I had never heard of it but it is sooo pretty! And if that is not a gown fit for a princess, then I don't know!

Mareike le Roux: the blush colour would look so pretty on Kate's tan and I have never seen this necklace before- where did you find it? You accessoized perfectly with this lovely clutch (I am a handbag addict lol) and shoes, Jimmy choo is always the way to go when looking for shoes and clutches ;)

Smiley: I particulary love your casual look. The Tory Burch top would go perfectly with the gilet and I actually own this pair of Jeans by H&M :D Kate should really really wear this for such a relaxed activity. And ofcourse, the shimmering gown you picked is lovely and I would love to see Kate in more 'full skirts'.

Kirsten: I hope Kate owns this Dress already, it is so pretty! But since it is similar to her Lasa, I think this could be very likely. Also like the way you played with yellow :) And Lucian Maris seems to be very talented, I hope Kate has considered him for the tour

Mary: Yay for L.L. Bean! ;) And I think the boots you suggested would be perfect for Kate.

Sofy: I really like the hat and brooch you Chose, and blue is such a beautiful colour on Kate. And I think it is time for Kate to wear the Diamond bangles, a very youthful Piece fit for the Duchess.

Sue: I like how you played with Grey and blue for your Outfits. The Dress is very pretty and the cootcut Jeans would look great on Kate, she wore them a lot during her 20s.

Christine: I could really see Kate in this Outfit the way you styled it! The Dress is gorgeous and all the Accessoires are perfectly matching.

Lauren: The Mouret Dress is very unusual for Kate, but she would rock it! And your Accessoires are complementing the dress' coulour, so pretty.

Alaina: I particulary love your casual look, the jewelry she desinged herself and the blue Outfit with those pretty Sneakers. And the Dress Looks so beautiful, too!

AnnaMartina: The Dress reminds me so much of her McQueen 'sailor like' Dress she debuted in Canada on Prince Edward Island

Rebecca: Yay for the pillbox hat! I love it, and it would go so well with the coat you picked. Also love that you thought of a 'kinda' Change of Outfits for another Event since I think this will be likely. And the idea of this very very beautiful brooch in her hair is great! Hopefully, Amanda is listening ;)

Nancy: It is great that you used Accessoires she already owns and went for new Dresses, I especially like the Dolce & Gabbana Dress!

Miol Mor: If this is not a WOW gown, then I do not know! I love it and the idea of something similar to the Packham from New York.

Casey: The jewelry you picked would be perfect for a sparkling black tie appearance and I really like the Sandals. Oh and I would be glad to see Kate carry such a rather big tote, especially for a less formal Event.

Elle: the Story behind the pretty flower brooch with the pink Diamond is really fascinating and I think this brooch is so pretty, it would go perfectly with the lovely Reiss Dress you Chose. And the blue gown is also stunning and I love the checkered Blazer.

Anett: I also think that she will wear Erdem on this tour. And the Jenny P Dress is very pretty, especially with the royal jewels you picked.

If I had to pick favourites, I'd have to say Downton Abbey Fan, definitely. I just love both Outfits so much, the way you accessoized them and the pieces themselves. But I also really like the evening Looks by Christine and Miol Mor and the Day Looks by Smiley and Sophia.

    Everyone made such lovely choices!

  8. Phew! I've just finished watching yet another Swedish royal baptism!! As adorable as ever!!

Nice that they might spend some time at Balmoral! Some nice family time! I doubt they will be able to stay a full week though since William flew just some day ago and has an engagement on the 14th.

Great that they are restocking the LK look. I really like that on Kate. I would love to see her pair the pieces with something different as well :)

Yippie for another batch of great looks!! :D How nice to see the collage you made of my looks! You really get a much better view than with just having your different tabs open!

I liked the LK Bennett look, the colour looks great on her. But I preferred the 1st wear with the black belt, the 2nd time it was just too boring, matchy-matchy tone in tone... would love to see Kate pair it with her Zara statement necklace, for example!

Once again I'm just dazzled by all these choices from some truly amazing gowns to some great casual outfits - all working very much with choices Kate would be comfortable with and which would look wonderful on her - not to mention careful jewels and accessories

    - to me, this reflects what loyal Kate followers want to see - her basic style with a bit more pizzazz as to details and maybe a touch more glamour and sparkle.

Unfortunately in the middle of a work project here but will try to comment on individual choices later.

  10. Smiley - that's a great look for an outdoor date with the children. I love the Tory Burch top. One thing, the owner of Sports Direct has received criticism from a parliamentary select committee for his poor working practices and I think Kate would steer clear of anything from his company. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3777732/It-s-fault-mess-Sports-Direct-owner-Mike-Ashley-s-charm-offensive-shareholders-comes-abrupt-halt-snaps-questions-union-reps-Victorian-working-practices.html

I am curious if she recycles from the 1st tour of Canada or not. But I would love to see many new outfits, of course ;D

I wonder if The Queen and Kate are talking about what royal jewels to bring to Canada right now? Do you rhink there will be a tiara occasion?

I love the looks that you all suggested, especially the casual look by smiley - I think there will be a lot of casual outfits in this tour.
And these evening gowns; I am in love!! Cannot imagine how you found all of this

  13. So much fun looking at everyone's carefully thought-out selections! My absolute favorite is "Sue T", followed by "Nancy". All four of these outfits are just a little out of the norm for Kate but she would look smashing in each one. Thank you to everyone who participated!
On another note, Kate's gold charm bracelet that Kirsten mentioned, as well as the Asprey pendant, are two pieces that I wish we would see Kate wear on a more regular basis. Either one could become a "signature" accessory.

  14. Barbara,

I like the style of the charm bracelet but not the sentiment that Camilla put into that. Like Royal fan said, what an audacious thing for Camilla to do after she basically prevented Diana from becoming queen by ruining Diana's marriage. If Camilla had put a W on there for William rather than HER INITIAL it would have made sense and been appropriate, especially since it seemed to be a wedding present. As it was it seemed very much an inappropriate thing to give Diana's daughter in-law. My guess is that that is why Kate gave the bracelet only an obligatory outing or two.

    1. Kate wore it quite frequently in the beginning. I can see why people want to see malice in it, and maybe you are correct. But to me it doesn't seem that wierd. She's Kate's mother in law and the granparent figure of Kates children. She is there and seemingly liked by alot of the people around her. I think she has paid enough for her sins by now. And she can take responibility for her part in her own marriage, but Charles has to stand for his part in the thing. I do not appriciate all this "blaming the other woman" that often happen in situations like these. Don't wanna start anything but putting all these malice thoughts onto something like that seems a bit extreme. Although feelings around Diana seem rather extreme in many ways so I'm not surprised.

      I agree about her monogram.

    3. Fill me in about the charm bracelet, please! I think I'm missing something.

    4. I still and always will not think to much about Camilla. She caused a lot of heart ache for Wiiliam & Harry's beloved mother. And not to say the heart she has caused the Princes at the time. She was the third person in the marriage (yes Charles is to blame equally). I also can not except her as George and Charlotte's grandparent. She has her own grandchildren.
I don not know what type of father Charles was to the boys. But I am sure he was not there most of the time. That is IMO because of the way he was raised. I am very happy that William is putting his wife and children first, Royal duty second. Like he said in his interview he had learned from the past.
Now this is just the way I feel. I had a third person in my marriage so I kinda know how Diana and the boys felt.
As Rebecca from Sweden says Camilla has paid enough for her sins. While I completely disagree with you. She has not and will never pay the price. Nor had Charles.

      Delete
    5. Rebecca, I do not see "malice" in the bracelet. However, I do think it was in very poor taste for the woman who made Diana's life so miserable and basically stepped into her shoes, to give this gift (which is such a bold statement about Camilla's status) to William's bride. Camilla was the third person in C&D's marriage and the symbolic nature of this bracelet is audacity itself.

    6. Florida girl, Google Daily Mail, "Charming Gift", by Lauren Paxman, June 29, 2011. There are pictures of the bracelet and the two sides of the charm on the bracelet.

      Delete
    7. Rebecca, I think she and Charles should be forgiven also. As I have said before, they did a very intense repentance in front of the whole world. Pertaining to gifting of that bracelet though, I agree, it was a big faux pas.

      Delete
    8. Camilla gave Kate a heavy gold chain bracelet around the time she and William were married. The charm on the bracelet has a C for Camilla on one side, and a C for Catherine on the other side, in the style of their different monograms. My impression is that Kate stopped wearing the bracelet somewhere around the time she and William left Clarence House for the inadequate cottage at Kensington Palace. Others can probably comment more accurately about the timing. Something happened, I think, to create a distance in the Wales family, and the bracelet disappeared from Kate's wrist.

There are suggestions about royal jewelry here that I think are possible, such as the various maple leaf brooches, a ruby ring, the diamond bangles, or the sapphire earrings that match a modern necklace of the Queen's. Other pieces seem very unlikely, the Williamson brooch for example and the Queen's wedding bracelet from Prince Philip. The brooch because the pink diamond is extremely rare, the bracelet because, though Kate has twice worn it in London, I doubt it will ever leave UK during the Queen's lifetime. I like the idea that Kate might wear Canadian gifts and possibly lesser known royal heirlooms. In the same way that I am drawn to outfits in Kate's style that I think she would actually wear, and that are appropriate to her destinations, I like logical jewel suggestions. But of course, fantasy is a lot of fun!

      Delete
    9. I have several lovely bracelets but I rarely wear them because they get in the way or catch on my clothes. Maybe that is why Kate stopped? Also with small grabby children....

      Delete
    10. IMO, something DID happen. True colors, anyone?

I asked this question before... can anyone tell me if the bracelet was ever worn after this article appeared?

RF, I think Kate only wore the bracelet twice, once to watch tennis and once to review the troops with William when he wore his ruffle uniform and Kate wore her navy sheath dress with the gold buttons and a navy blue beret type hat. Does anyone remember any other outings where she wore that bracelet?

That does seem to coincide with that ridiculous Christmas present though. Did Camilla open that at the family gathering at Sandringham or at her own private family gift opening?

    12. I would tend to agree that there is/was a concrete reason for the bracelet disappearing entirely. I don't know whether it is for the reasons royalfan hints at, but coupled with the fact that there are not-so-hidden issues between Charles and William (which Charles has aired out repeatedly through the media) and the fact that they really don't see each other much, I do tend to believe that something happened and the pretenses have been dropped from both sides.
It is ironic that we do not see Charles and William/Kate together like.. ever.. yet we just have a picture of the Queen with Kate at Balmoral. Have we seen a single picture of Charles/Camilla with W&K after the kids were born?

When this bracelet first appeared, I remember commenting what an odd gift it seemed to me. I adored my mother-in-law madly and she adored me. I have worn pieces belonging to her happily -as well as those of my own mum. But I would have found it extraordinarily strange if she had given a charm bracelet with her initial and mine linked together. If it had had my husband's and mine, that's another matter - but why a bracelet with hers and mine. Maybe I'm missing something.

Somehow, I found that bracelet - especially with the crown - a pretentious gift - especially as Camilla is a step-mother-in-law, not William's actual mother. I was not surprised that Kate wore it a couple of times tactfully and then retired it. It seemed to me a way of Camilla putting herself forward - and linking herself with the young and popular Kate.

I admit I've always disliked Camilla because she has always seemed to me a conniving woman - a true manipulator -- long before I ever had any idea she might be ambitious to be queen. I don't think she is the least repentant for the past - I think she glories in her success at controlling Charles - her excessive jewels point to that.

The shape is a pretty choice with Kristen's design - but frankly I would like to see that charm replaced with one that has C and W - now, that would make sense to me.

    14. 5:17, I should clarify...I did not mean to imply that this was *the* reason for the bracelet not being seen again, but the gift referred to in the article does suggest that there was an atmosphere behind the scenes that enabled APB to feel that the gift would be appreciated.

I always believed that the bracelet was half PR and half territorial. In reality, I suspect that this couple represents the same "pebble" in Camilla's shoe as Diane did when she was alive. Camilla is only concerned with her own place in history; she has no investment in W&K's success and popularity...on the contrary.

      Delete
    15. Julia, you're not "missing" anything. I agree with your opinion on this.

      Delete
    16. royalfan , 5:17 here. I understood what you meant and I agree about there being an atmosphere where the gift would be appreciated.
About the bracelet.. I confess that I don't understand the 'territorial' argument. What do you mean royalfan - genuinely want to know your thoughts here.
I understand the PR aspect of it and I would tend to agree with that, especially since Camilla took great pains to be photographed having lunch with Kate as soon as the engagement was announced. The pictures from that lunch were accompanied by an article on how Camilla was helping Kate plan the wedding.
I agree with Julia that Camilla has no repentance for her role in the past and basks in her success - yes, the excessive jewels would suggest that indeed. But I think that she feels that way because she and Charles have a genuine narrative in their minds that it was Diana who was at fault because they believe her to be deranged and stupid. I think that they do actually believe that.
I generally tend to agree with royalfan and Julia's assessment of Camilla's character and role.
I will only add here that I believe Camilla to also be supremely confident, which is probably what gave her access to insecure Charles in the first place. I think that she is unapologetic about who she is and this may have been very attractive to Charles who was dealing with Diana's tremendous insecurities, whether they were justified or not. Right after Kate and William married there was an article that talked about the Middletons visiting the house where Camilla grew up in - they wanted to purchase it. The article ended with a sentence on how Camilla was "amused" that they thought they could purchase it. I thought that was very telling. She definitely enjoys her status.

    17. Sorry, 2:27...I missed your comment here and confused it with another comment.

We can add the Nov 2011 trip to Denmark to the list of when the bracelet was worn. Note: before Christmas of 2012. And, no, I do not believe the gift was delivered to Sandringham. I suspect it was presented and opened when Camilla celebrated the holiday with her children and grandchildren.

      Delete
    18. 5:17, "territorial" as in Camilla marking her territory; sending a clear message to Kate that SHE (Camilla) is the next Queen and that the young bride shouldn't get carried away with herself. I recall Camilla reaching out to Diana and trying to befriend her when she and Charles were engaged. Photos of that lunch date with Kate was a vivid reminder of this. And you are absolutely correct about her confidence.

    19. RF, I have always felt that Camilla was/is determined to rewrite history and put herself in the throne to compensate for Alice Kepple not being Queen back in the day. Alice was the mistress (one of a number of mistresses), Camilla saw an open door, took it and will be Queen where Alice couldn't. When you said that "Camilla is only concerned with her own place in history" it rang true for the very reasons I just stated. I hope I am wrong about that. I hope she really loves Charles.

      Delete
    20. I somehow recall a story that Camilla gave Charles a C/C charm which Diana
discovered on her honeymoon. If true, I feel that would certainly. put the Catherine gift beyond the realm of tasteless into malice territory.
Kirsten, hope you realise none of this discussion is related to your choice.
Without all the baggage attached to the bracelet, it is a good selection.

      Delete
    21. True Kristen. A charm bracelet is nice with that outfit, but not THAT bracelet.

I agree 16:07, since Camilla seems to intrusively mark "her" territory with initialed stuff, that makes that bracelet even more improper. It truly was like she was trying to put herself on the same level with Kate by putting HER crown and initials on the same charm as Kate's. Like the Kardashians trying to show up on Kate sites There'sa term for it. I think it is called lateral PR. I call it tacky and rude.

    22. 2:47, I think Charles loves and is dependent upon Camilla. For the other half of the equation, I go along with your AK theory.

16:07, Diana discovered a F&G (Fred & Gladys were C&C's nicknames) shortly before her wedding. Supposedly, a goodbye gift from Charles to Camilla. Right. Nothing says goodbye like jewelry.

And my goodness...NO issue with a gold bracelet added to complete a lovely outfit. I'm glad you pointed that out, California Girl.

  17. The proposed outfits: Each and every one of them - Simply Amazing. There’s not one that the Duchess wouldn’t rock! By now I’m resigned to not being able to vote for the best suggestion because, honestly, each and every one - in its own unique way - is pure perfection for Catherine.

Downton Abbey Fan, Sophia, Sofy, Nancy, and Elle - although my personal taste does not run towards lace, I imagine that the Duchess would look stunning in the gala outfit you put together!

Marike le Roux, Smiley, Kirsten, Christine, Lauren, and Alaina - The gown you’ve selected surely has to be added to Catherine’s closet asap!

Downton Abbey Fan, Sophia, Kirsten, Sofy, AnnaMartina, Rebecca, Nancy, Elle, and Anett - This daytime look is elegant AND fun – love it :)

Smiley, Mary in TN, Sue. T., Alaina, Casey H, and Elle - If it has to be skinny jeans, that’s exactly the way to wear them, and fitting Catherine to a T!

… and Rebecca, you’re so right: Catherine wearing the green bell sleeve McQueen gown with the Queen's Enamel Maple Leaves Brooch worn in her hair would be so beautiful! (While I smile at the thought of the Duchess wearing raspberry coloured lipstick I wonder whether we’ll ever have the pleasure to see her go there … :P)

Charlotte – what a terrific job, and gargantuan undertaking, to showcase everybody’s suggestion to best effect. All the work and love you’ve put in this endeavor shine brightly – love your blog!

I think people chose skinny jeans because they seem to be a favourite of Kate's (I don't completely buy into the "they're fashionable now" argument because a number of things may be stylish that aren't suitable for a royal - torn jeans for instance = although the Dutch Princess of Orange wore them to the Olympics - but she's a teenager.)
I'm not crazy about that look. but part of the emphasis on the notorious Middleton derriere has come from the fact Kate has styled her jeans so plainly - it draws attention to her er...anatomy more than anything. Adding better tops, jackets and accessories turns it into a fashionable look.

One thing I tried to do - and I've been impressed that almost everyone else did too - was chose styles that Kate could be comfortable in - ones that derive direct from what she has already worn.

I would loved to see trousers too - that's a more polished, elegant and princess-like look than jeans (no problem with jeans for private time or extreme sports.) But I can see why people worked with this look.

  21. Wonderful work ladies! There are so many red gowns. So far I think my favorite is the Roland Mouret Galaham Gown selected by Lauren and because I'm a big fan of Jimmy Choo, I can't resist the shoes and clutch. Without a doubt I LOVE the sweeping red gown from J. M. Rouge chosen by Miol Mor but I'm leaning towards something I think Kate will wear.

The day dress selected by Sue T. - Temperley London Evadine Dress - is lovely especially paired with the earrings. Sophia from Germany your choice of the Alexander McQueen Pleated Mini Dress is definitely a frock I can see Kate wearing. While it looks short in that photo, on the model it's the right length.

Also, Sofy the navy Erdem coat paired with the hat (why didn't I think about a hat) is pretty. And Rebecca the red coatdress by Eponine London has a beautiful portrait collar. We're the only ones that showcased a coat - and Kate is likely to wear a few coats.

I have to say, if something here in Charlotte's blog appears on Kate I will be so happy. There are so many different selections and options, quite a few from her favorite designers. Good shot - who knows.

This upcoming engagement is a good example of why I'm not a huge fan of all these joint engagements (I won't go into it again so to spare those of you lucky enough to avoid my rant the first time around :P)...it's Kate's patronage but William is giving the speech? Like I get that they are both spearheading Heads Together but that doesn't change that Place2Be is her patronage and has been for awhile now, and I don't think we'd ever see her give a speech while William sat there during a visit to a charity dealing with men's suicide, or a speech about veterans' mental health while Harry is present.
And well, I may as well get all the negative out at once. I'm a little disappointed that the KP trio didn't release anything about the Paralympics aside from Harry wishing the Invictus Games participants luck. They managed to do a video before and a letter after for the Olympics participants but basically nothing for the Paralympics ones? If they really didn't feel like doing anything extra, then why not just make both things about the Olympics and Paralympics and just hold off on the letter release until the latter ends? Especially when my understanding is that SportsAid does work with Paralympic competitors too.

....okay I guess I ended up with a little mini rant anyways :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. How do you know that William is giving a speech? The KP site does not mention a speech at all. If the nessage gets out, is it really important who gives the speech?

If you check the KP twitter site their are two messages there from Sportsaid praising Paralympic athletes..

One last thing. How many major speeches has Prince Philip given in 60 plus years? Just curious.

      Delete
    2. Julia from Leominster11 September 2016 at 17:38

I'm not sure what you define as a "major" speech but Philip has given hundreds of speeches - he's a very polished speaker often with an ease and humour in his speaking. He also has always worked massively and while he very frequently is with the queen - I believe, he sees that as his role, he does a tremendous amount independently. He also is not the least bit afraid to speak his mind - and has gotten into controversy with it (although I doubt he cares.) He also, from what I've read, can be a challenging and dominate person, and was not always an easy father.

Not a good person to compare Kate to = I would say they are almost dead opposites. Which is not a criticism of either - more - it might be better if Kate stepped out independently a bit more (that's how you learn confidence.) It's too late now, (and bearing in mind parenting often comes from your own personal experience, and Philip was from a highly dysfunctional family whilst Kate is from a close one) he could have been a much more supportive father to his children, especially Charles.

    1. Harry's role is more centered on the far reaches of the Commonwealth. He is scheduled for an intensive tour of the Caribbean. But he also has a personal commitment in Africa. As with the military, he can spend time and effort in ways that are different from William's coming constitutional role. In a way, Harry is following the Queen Mother, who was deeply concerned about Africa and Australia and made long visits throughout her royal life to those areas.

    2. A very generous explanation of Harry's continued absence from the UK, including
several traditional and/or significant royal family occasions the past year or
so. There are other explanations for his being kept away.
It sometimes reminds me that Charles was also often away during his adventurous
bachelor days. Both perhaps nursing a romance-bruised ego.

Sofy - That blue coat is just perfect for Canada - I would love to see more fitted coats - and also think those bangles would be a great loan as the queen rarely wears them.
Sue - I'm talking shoes - the courts with bows would add some needed interest and great Canadian boots.

  37. First,to make a long story short (and leave out the sad bits), I have not posted for a long while. However, I have been reading and in that 4-month interval I have moved to Victoria, BC (a very happy bit). I have been delighted to watch the local and national police forces conducting "procession protocol rehearsals". The sight of a dozen flashing motorcycles, officers stopping cross-street traffic, and a motorcade of lights ablaze police vehicles is an exciting display of technology and testosterone. The capital city is gearing up for the Cambridge family's arrival at month's end.

Second, when I saw Part One of the styling for Catherine's sartorial tour options I was struck by an insight that had escaped me before. I now believe that some of the critical nit-picking over Catherine's choices happens not because the commenters are mean in any way. Rather, it's because they are so incredibly fantastic at what they put together that it's disappointing to see choices that sometimes fall far short of what they might have been.

Now after Part Two, a warm salute to all the sartorial savants on this site. I have a new respect for you all. When you get uber-picky in the future, instead of getting riled, I'm going to listen and learn. I've been inspired to ramp up my own wardrobe with some of the casual options offered. (Sadly, I don't have occasions--or vaults--for swanning around in evening clothes and jewels. That's why it's delightful to enjoy photos of those who do.)

    1. I'm sorry there is a sad bit:-(

I like what you say about the motivation behind the sartorial criticism and I agree. For the most part, everyone just wants her to look amazing. When that falls short, we are disappointed.

    2. Welcomed return Philly. :)

You know that is simple and profound what you said about our critiquing Kate's outfits over the years. I think you are totally right about that.

You will have to be one of Charlotte's blog reporters on the ground to keep us apprised as to the tour.

    3. I agree Philly, Erika and 20:58. Like it or not, sartorially speaking, she is our Barbie doll. I hope she would think that is a good thing. I do.

    4. Hello Philly! Congratulations on your very happy move. I agree with you; the stylists who put together these amazing outfits certainly have an eye for colour, fabric, design and style. I sadly lack these skills and often play it safe in my wardrobe choices. I do admire and appreciate a well put together outfit. Your perceptive on other's opinions is interesting and I tend to agree.

Enjoy settling into your new city and please keep us up to date on the behind scenes preparations for the tour.

Are you planning to try and get a glimpse of the couple?

    5. What a great insight! So often (though I think Kate always looks pretty and appropriate) with just a few tweaks her outfits could be AMAZING. She should just take a peek at the great choices here :)

    6. Thanks to all of you who offered a welcome back and smiley faces. No, I am not planning to get a glimpse of the Cambridge family. First, I don't need the insanity of gridlock and security when Charlotte's blog affords me much better views in the comfort of my own home (with a glass of wine in hand).

Second, many years ago when HM visited the Island (as we locals--I was born here--call it), I was part of a high school choir invited to sing for the Queen.

We rehearsed endlessly and waited hours in a parking lot along side the route where the Royal motorcade would pass. Once alerted that the car was coming we sang our little hearts out. When the (open in those days) car passed neither the Queen or Prince Philip even glanced our way as they passed toward the wharf, the tender and the Britannia. Frankly the vessel was more impressive than HM and I don't regret seeing it for myself in the Comox harbour.

That sort of put me off any endeavours to view Royals "with my own eyes." I didn't bother to see Charles and Diana at Expo 86 or anyone else. I don't know how many others will see it this way, but there's a greater glamour in magazines and tabloids (and now blogs) that real life simply cannot not match. Give me the gloss any day. However, if I received a personal invitation (not likely) to be in handshake & curtsy distance, that would be another matter. But I don't travel in such distinguished circles.

Yes, so often the dress is so lovely and just fits her perfectly, but the accessoires are rather boring and almost always the same. (But I may not complain about it since I always wear the same watch and just vary between 3 bracelets and 3 necklaces or several scarves)

Remember for example the lela rose dress from Cornwall: perfectly tailored, fit Kate perfectly, and made her figure look great. But just think about how stunning and less 'boring' the whole outfit would have looked if she had worn, let's say a statement necklace or a charm bracelet or bigger earrings, something like that. Or a magenta clutch and shoes to add some colour? She still looked beautiful with the accessoires she chose, but there was so much potential!!
She has the figure to pull off every look and while I understand her want to play it safe, I wish she would go a more exciting way more often...

Beautifully put Philly but so sorry to hear there were sad bits - but hope the move brings you great happiness - it is the most beautiful place to live - a combination of an elegant city with gorgeous countryside around it. All best wishes for a good life there. Glad you're back - I always wonder what happens when a thoughtful and frequent participant here suddenly disappears.

On that subject - Kate from Texas - and California where are you? You used to make the most wonderful comments - also Ana from Brazil and I know Pauline is lurking out there - if you have been commenting and I've missed it, my apologises.

I've always felt comments came with good wishes -that people want Kate to look and be as wonderful as she can be - especially with such natural gifts as she has - and that's why suggestions were often made.

  38. Once again, lovely, lovely choices by all! Kate would wear each and every one of them well. Charlotte, I can't imagine the time you are spending on this project. Thank you so much!!

I am enjoying everything posted but a few stand out due to personal taste. I've commented to a few posters above but wanted to mention a few others that I find really very beautiful.

DT Fan, I especially love your daytime look. Lovely dress and striking cuff that I might just have to have.

Kirsten, I am hoping she will wear this LK Bennet dress. I think it was made for her and the yellow acessories are spot on.

Sue T, I like this version of the Temperley dress better than what Kate wore. The color/contrast is gorgeous . The shoes and earrings you picked are perfect.

Christine USA, Incredible gown that I hope we see on Kate sometime. The emeralds would look amazing with it.

Lauren NJ, Perfect gown for Kate. Perfect gown to offset the baroque pearls.

AnnaMartina, this is my favorite daytime look of the bunch. So chic!!

Elle, I love both of your looks. So pretty and feminine.

Lastly. Anett, the Erdem and JP are amazing picks. Boho chic that Kate does so well. The Dubai Looped set should definitely be worn by Kate. Yay substantial jewels!

    3. Agreed that the jewelry selected has been one of the most interesting components. Many years ago I went to the Tower of London. But it's still have to envision just how much jewelry HM must have. We've all thought about Kate's closet and the storing of her clothes. Imagine what the jewelry chest for the Queen looks like. Mind boggling.

Yes, I see so many gorgeous pieces of jewelry suggested here. If only Kate knew! She usually likes to play it safe with her favourite small earrings and a watch which I totally understand (I do, too).

But there are so many beautiful pieces! Just look at the Robinson Pelham earrings or the Annoushka cuff suggested by Downton Abbey Fan or the pink earrings and bracelet suggested by Rebecca from Sweden!
      I love them!

Jewelry can be quite expensive, but Kate certainly can afford it and she would look great if she stepped out of her comfort zone just a tiny bit :)

  39. I forgot to mention Alaina NJ. The CB dress is beautiful. I especially love the brooch at the waist. Incredible stilettos! I would love to see her wear them with a day dress or skirt so we could really see them.

  40. I keep thinking I have found a favourite outfit, but keep changing my mind because there are many details and designs from all of our stylists that catch my eye. Lovely!!!! These posts are an absolute pleasure to read... eye candy!!

Thank you Charlotte for putting all these posts and outfits together. Your time and energy are greatly appreciated.

Lastly, Lauren from NJ .... You have found the perfect dress for the pearl SORU earrings. Wasn't keen on them originally but they have found their home with that red dress!!!

  42. What amazing choices! I could see her wearing any of them and wowing us all. (Sofy, that blue coat is gorgeous). I saw Princess Madeleine of Sweden just wore this flowered Erdem with a white collar and thought "Kate needs that one!", now I see Anett had the same idea :) https://www.facebook.com/PrincessMadeleineOfSweden/

  45. Royal Fan,

In answer to your question. Kate wore the charm bracelet to Armed Forces Day on September 25, 2011 with her Alexander McQueen navy military coat. She also wore it with her Temperley white dress on September 27, 2011, when at Wimbledon. Those are the only public events where she is seen wearing that bracelet. I agree that those were the "obligatory outings" for the bracelet. I hope Kate was aware of the ridiculous inappropriateness of the gift. Apparently she was.

    1. Thank you, 17:33. And I agree with your assessment of the gift.

We should add the Nov 2011 visit to Denmark to this short list, but this was all before the Dec 2012 article I posted above. I think Kate wore it a few times to be polite and then tucked it away once she realized that the diplomacy she was prepared to offer, was not being reciprocated.

    2. http://www.katesclothes.com/bracelet/cipher-bracelet/

This site list it (at least 8 times). All in the same fall/winter. But that is a very very common pattern with most of Kate's jewelry. She chooses a piece and sticks with it for a while and then changes to another piece.

      Delete
    3. Didn't Catherine stop wearing bracelets altogether around that time - except for high wattage appearances when she is wearing a gown, that is? I may be wrong but it was my impression that she has pretty much discontinued her pre-wedding habit of wearing a bracelet on 'regular working day' type outings.

      Delete
    4. Rebecca, thank you for the link. :) Okay, eight times, with the last being in Denmark in Nov 2011.

But I respectfully disagree with you, and Miol Mor, that the absence of this particular piece has to do with any pattern of wearing jewelry. I base my opinion on a lot of history, and the more recent rumors and pot-stirring about Charles and the Middleton's. My mind goes to one source.

All IMO, of course, but "patterns" is a good word here. ;)
