Kate's Duchess of Downton On Set Visit!

The Duchess of Cambridge visited the set of the ever-popular drama series Downton Abbey this morning.

Upon arrival, Kate was given a bouquet by the little boy who plays George Crawley.

The Duchess is normally the star attraction during public appearances, however, today one suspects Her Royal Highness may have been a little starstruck herself. Both she and William are huge fans of the show and tuned into the festive special on Christmas Day at Anmer Hall.

Downton is particularly popular with the royals, and just last week The Countess of Wessex visited the set accompanied by Mexico's First Lady and The Duchess of Cornwall. Last year she confessed to being a "Downton addict" during a chat with cast member Lesley Nichol (Mrs Patmore). Indeed, Kate's family love the show too; so much so, Carole, Mike and Pippa Middleton visited the set in 2011.

Sky News reporter Paul Harrison revealed he believes it isn't Kate's first visit to the set.

The Palace said Kate's visit to Ealing Studios is to "celebrate the success of the award-winning production". Kate was introduced to the show's creator Lord Julian Fellowes and representatives of the studio.

Since the British period drama first aired in 2010, depicting the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their staff in the post-Edwardian era, it has captured the hearts and imagination of viewers around the world. It has received widespread critical acclaim and has become the most successful British costume drama series since the early eighties.

Highclere Castle

As many of you already know, I adore Downton. The costumes, the characters, the romances (I admit to shedding a tear or ten when Sybil and Matthew died). Who is your favourite character in the show?

ITV

The cast are currently filming series six of the ITV drama, with cast and crew splitting their time between Ealing and locations such as Highclere Castle in Berkshire which stands in for the eponymous Downton Abbey.

Highclere Castle

Highclere is open to the public up to 70 days per year. When you visit you will recognise many rooms from Downton Abbey, including the drawing room in which Dame Maggie Smith has delivered many a withering remark to some unfortunate relation or guest. The castle and surrounding grounds are a splendid place to spend the day. If you're interested in visiting you can view the official website here.

Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates) tweeted about the visit this morning.

And yesterday Hugh Bonneville spoke about his excitement ahead of Kate's visit:

'We’re all very excited. Mrs Patmore is baking a cake and we’re all bringing in sandwiches. It’s going to be a show and tell day.'

Reporter Emily Nash shared photos of the cake.

Mrs Patmore and Daisy presented HRH with the cake.

The Duchess had the opportunity to see different areas of the production process, from watching make-up artists at work, meeting costume designers, seamstresses and cutters in the workshop and the design and production process of set scenery and props. It's very much a dream come true for a fan of the show to experience an inside look.

The Duchess of Cambridge shared a joke with Downton Abbey's Carson during her visit to the show's set today, asking him if his suit and bow tie were "usual attire". The actor said Kate was "very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the show".

During a tour of the Downton Abbey set Kate met cast members, including Phyllis Logan (Mrs Hughes), Robert James-Collier (Thomas), Lesley Nicol (Mrs Patmore) and Sophie McShera (Daisy).

Robert James-Collier (Thomas) spoke to Kate in the make up department:

'You've come just at the right time, Phyllis (Mrs Hughes) is about to have her Botox put in'.

Kate laughed.

Unfortunately, Dame Maggie Smith couldn't make it today.

The Duchess watched one take of a scene being filmed in the servants' quarters and a second take of the scene via a monitor in the 'Video Village' area.

Lady Mary and George presented Kate with a gift for Prince George. My personal favourite photo.

Master George handed Kate the wooden train for Prince George.

Molesey and Baxter offered to polish Kate's shoes :)

Afterwards Kate headed to the servants' hall to join cast members, writers and producers in an official photograph.

After walking through a covered walkway showing the history of Ealing Studios, the Duchess attended a brief reception and met production, editorial and Ealing studios staff, as well as more cast members, including Hugh Bonneville (Robert) and Elizabeth McGovern (Cora),

Before unveiling a plaque to commemorate the visit.

As always, Rebecca Deacon was with Kate today. She looked very chic today.

Kate enjoyed her time at Downton so much, she left thirty minutes later than scheduled.

Kate looked elegant in a cream coat by leading British mother and baby brand JoJo Maman Bebe.

The appropriately named Princess Wool Coat is described as "a great investment piece for your maternity wardrobe". The wool-mix fabric gives it a luxurious, cosy feel. The collarless garment features front slant slip pockets, tonal topstitching and panel seaming. It's available in limited sizing for £69 at JoJo Maman Bebeat Gilt and Amazon.

Kate wore a creamy white dress underneath.

Kate selected the same accessories as yesterday; her Stuart Weitzman Power pumps. The pointed-toe stilettos are currently reduced from $355 to $178 in a variety of colours on the Stuart Weitzman website. They are also available in black and taupe at Nordstrom and Zappos with Free Shipping.

And her Mulberry Bayswater Clutch.

Kate completed the look with her trusty Annoushka pearls.

There's videos from the engagement at The TelegraphITV and You Tube.

It was a particularly fun visit, very much enjoyed by all involved :)

Also today, we take a look at an addition to Kate's calendar.

17 March - As expected, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit the 1st Batallion Irish Guards for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Kate will present shamrock to officers and guardsmen.

18 March - It was just announced this morning the Duchess will visit Brookhill Children's Centre in Woolwich where she will learn about the work carried out to support families, helping them build better lives for their children.

We hadn't anticipated another public appearance after the 17th, however, it's great to see so much of the Duchess this month. Royal reported have noted the additional date may point to a late-April birth. We'll see you tomorrow morning when Kate joins senior members of the Royal family at a service to mark the end of combat operations in Afghanistan.

I do hope it's a girl she seems "wider" in the nicest sense of the word this time but then other pictures it's seems much the same as George! Anyway thank you again, we are being spoilt at the moment for Kate pics! I hope she will be with William tomorrow I would like to see them do more joint engagements!

    6. Rebecca has lost weight and I believe I read that she is dating a man also involved with assisting William and Kate. My guess is that she's feeling food about herself right now - all of us females should be able to relate to that feeling. Lighten up, ladies, and show a little kindness and support to Kate's faithful right-hand lady.

    7. Anon @19:37 it is not Rebecca's fault that she gets photographed while accompanying Kate. Her job is to be there for Kate. Which most the time puts her in close proximity to her and Kate is photographed all the time. It is not fair to blame her for being in the same frame as her. It is not like she is stealing Kate's thunder. If you look, there are plenty of photos with her protection officers too. Should they not ever be photographed as well? That is just silly and unrealistic.

I think her skirt is too short, but that is personal preference. Obviously she is comfortable in it. I would be trying to pull it down:). But again, she is not the Royal, so she is free to wear what she wants.

    8. CuriousKat is right. Not Miss Deacon's fault and my opinion is that it is also not an accident. The photographer wanted RD in that particular photo because it only takes a few seconds to cut someone out of any photo and we would be none the wiser.

When Catherine was expecting with George, she wore a few different skirts for official outings that were that short. The white polka dot dress and the plaid coat spring to mind.

The children with flags in the photo of of C and RD sitting in the vehicle looks off. Anyone else notice this?

    9. That skirt is waaay above the knee.
Surely she's feeling good in her trimmer legs, but still a miniskirt to work is inappropriate.

Looks far more casual today---thought at first this was the white coat she wore some weeks ago. She has been on engagements three times this week and with 3 completely different looks. All are great and I am still trying to decide which I like best.
Another engagement tomorrow--on BBC from 10:30. Perhaps we can then decide "look of the week"
I think she must be feeling really well at the moment, as she keeps adding engagements, though for obvious reasons not being announced until the last minute.

Rebecca looks fabulous today!! Kate looks faboulous too even if her ensemble is rather bland. I feel like we saw this look a few weeks ago with the cream MaxMara. This coat does fit her better however, and even though she is further along here, I think she looks less bulky. I would have liked a pair of bright pink shoes with this coat or a brilliant blue, red or how about a floral pump. LK Bennet has a great pink floral shoe that would have looked wonderful with this coat.

I love DA. My fave is Maggie Smith character. She has so many words of wisdom. I hope she is doing fine and nothing serious.

On fashion front, I am so happy to see Kate wearing a mat.coat. She looks really pretty. I wish she would kick the habit of touching her hair all the time, thats why I prefer her dos. I have a feeling this coat will turn up during the week again.

On the sidenote, Rebecca should dress a bit more conservative.:)

  10. I think it is strange that Kate "officially" visits a TV set - a year after she visits it privately and a week after another royal, Sophie, and Mexico's first lady visit during her State visit. What is the point of her doing so?

    1. It adds up to her engagement list?:-)

    2. @ Moxie. According to reports she was invited to tour the set to help "celebrate what is one of the most successful products of the UK's creative industries, and one of Britain's greatest cultural exports." She accepted the invitation. It all seems very simple and not strange.

      Delete
    3. Also two different locations were visited. Countess and First Lady visited the Castle where some filming is done. Kate visited the studio where most the filming and production is done. I think Kate's previous unofficial visit was to the Castle.
Don't think this has anything to do about numbers. Just an invitation to visit.

      Delete
    4. Yes particularly when she did some private charity engagements earlier in the year.

      Delete
    5. There are also rumblings that this is the last series of Downton. So maybe, she wouldn't have time after giving birth and maternity leave to visit the set, as it would be finished filming?

I agree with anonymous, she was invited to go, she accepted. nothing strange about it. I would love to go myself! big fan of DA

    7. Downton is a huge international success. I think the fact that so many folks are huge fans, from the first lady of Mexico to the UK royals, points to what a wide reach the show has had.
I'd expect that the royals routinely get private visits of places and events.
Today's visit wasn't a matter of state, just an even to highlight the success of this great production, to thank Julian Fellowes and his cast and crew.

      Delete
    8. Anon 14:25 : thank you for your comment, it seems Moxie sees this visit as strange- I totally agree with you- not strange at all.

      Delete
    9. @ moxie this is just the normal difference between a private and an official visit by a member of the RF. It's no big deal.

Members of the RF make private visits to Australia from time to time. They visit their friends, be tourists, do their own thing and there are no public expectation about what they'll do, who they'll see etc and there's no media entourage and minimal media coverage. When they're here for an official visit it's a totally different story.
Ditto the visit by the Duchess to Downton Abbey. On the private occasion it's her own personal interest. For the official visit it's a high profile member of the RF showing their support for British creative industries and celebrating the success of a wonderful British series. The cast & crew would certainly have understood the difference and the media coverage shows the planning that went into the official visit.

      Delete
    10. I wouldn't say strange, but I do wonder why she went this week when Sophie was just there. And it's not the first time she's been; the Middletons had a private visit last year I read somewhere. Oh to be able to do things like this to earn my keep!

    11. Jessica in Texas13 March 2015 at 01:48

My thought when this was pointed out was "if this is considered an engagement, then why wasn't her luncheon at the Goring Hotel considered an official engagement?" Both were private invitations she accepted and the hotel even posted a pr photo afterwards... I'm not sure what the difference is; the hotel celebrating 105 years of service or celebrating the success of the show and the oldest production company still in business?

      Delete
    12. Jessica I was thinking the same thing. It makes no sense. They are they same type of engagement. Maybe the Goring would have been seen as favoritism toward a specific hotel and that was why it was not counted as work like the Downton Abbey visit? That's the only thing I can think of. But other than that they are the same type of visit and neither should really count.

      Delete
    13. Hi Jessica in Texas. No they aren't the same kind of engagement. For a start the Goring invited a whole range of people to celebrate with them. The Duchess was just one invitee and she most likely chose to attend in her private capacity so as not to be officially part of a publicity event.

The invitation to Downtown Abbey appears to have been to her in her official capacity and as I wrote in an earlier post she's there as a high profile royal showing support for British creative industries and to celebrate the success of a wonderful British series. There are protocols that cover these matters both for RF visits/engagements in the UK and for when they're visiting Commonwealth countries. The differences might seem nuanced but they matter. Hope this helps.

      Delete
    14. Didn't read anything that made it seem less strange. The only difference between this visit and the last visit is publicity and her family didn't attend with her. I understand that publicly celebrating the creative arts is considered a royal role - such as when she, William and Harry attended the Warner Bros Studios. But the Downton Abbey set is not public - you can't buy tickets to tour it - and the show is quite successful without needing a "royal boost". Meanwhile, Kate doesn't have an aristocratic background... If Kate were to visit any other British TV set ... would it seem "normal" to other readers?

      Delete
    15. blue wren,
Kate is one of many at a lot of events - so I'm not sure that logic applies. What makes sense to me about the Goring - is that she couldn't "officially" do anything while William was on official tour in foreign countries - because presumably Kate would have been there with him - were she cleared for travel. To do anything "officially" would have pulled attention from her husband's efforts.

      Delete
    16. bluewren @8:19 I think you explained it perfectly.

I love, love, love the fit of this coat! It would have been great if it were a different color since she already has a winter white coat but I'm not complaining because she looks beautiful as always! I guess I'm in the minority here because I do not think she looks bigger than with Prince George. Actually, other than her baby bump & that she is a little more busty, I can not tell that she's changed at all. I can't wait for tomorrow's engagements. It does make me wonder how much the new PR's guy has to do with the sudden increase in her workload. I do hope it continues after her maternity leave,

While I, myself, am not a DA viewer, I can still understand how a fan such as yourself, Charlotte, must have enjoyed putting this one together. It's just....FUN!

Everything looks beautiful: from the set, to the costumes, to the cast, to the cake, to the Duchess herself.

Slightly puzzled why Kate would choose a second white coat so similar to the first - I assumed it was the original one when I first glanced at it. Was it a borrow from Eugenie - seems unlikely. Very odd. She might need a bigger coat this late in her pregnancy but still - this is the fourth light coloured coat she had worn through her prengnacies - there was the shorter one with George and the one she wore to the ski wedding - then wore again later.

It's a nice engagment and I love the series but it does seem as if Kate is being eased into work as there seems hardly a reason for her visit so soon after Sophie. These are quite light engagements and do seem maybe intended to up those unfortuante numbers in January. Still better than nothing. Rebecca looks unprofessional nor in my eye is the look becoming on her. Michelle Dockery could be Kate's prettier sister - they are almost the same age, I believe, and there is a superficial resemblance.

  25. My favourite Downton Abbey characters--I am unable to limit it to one--include: Above Stairs, the Dowager Duchess of Grantham (Maggie Smith) for her biting wit and innate, authentic snobbery; Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) for beauty, costume, authentically overblown sense of entitlement and snobbery which surpasses even that of the Dowager Duchess; the Earl of Grantham, for his authentic struggle to accept change, although his marital fidelity is not representative of his elevated social status.

Below Stairs: Carson, the Butler (Jim Carter) for his typical adherence to the past and his largely unthinking loyalty to the Earl, again typical for the time (indeed, below stairs, his status mimics that of his master, the Earl, above stairs); Mrs. Patmore, the Cook (Lesley Nichol) for her authentic undereducated, rather silly personality, who nevertheless always gets the job done.

I quite liked the cream maternity coat Kate wore for this engagement. Although less expensive than the Max Mara cream coat Kate recently wore, I thought it the better of the two. It fit.

I loved the outfit very much. The colour suits the Duchess so well!! It was stylish and elegant yet certainly comfortable to wear (ok, I could never wear that light-coloured coat out in public - I swear it would get dirty somehow, no matter how hard I would try otherwise!! ;-)))) ).
As far as her pregnancy is concerned - if I remember correctly, her 12-weeks-scan was on the 17th of October last year, so you can count from there. The 17th of October plus another 28 weeks (in contrast to what we ususally say, the duration of a pregnancy is not 9 months but actually 40 weeks=10 months), you end up at the week of the 1st of May (I hope I counted correctly...). Which would correspond to her still having formal engangements during this and next week (which is, of course, brilliant as we get to see a lot of Charlotte´s wonderful posts!!!)
I enjoyed the video from the Telegraph, too. The Duchess and the cast certainly seemed to be quite "in awe" of each other - which was very nice to watch..... Must admit I envy the Duchess a little bit for having had this opportunity as I am a devoted "Downton Abbey" fan myself...
Thanks Charlotte for yet another wonderful post!!

  31. As usual the Duchess looks beautiful, radiant and chic in this coat and understated accessories. Her hair also looks amazing. Rebecca's dress too short? Rubbish! Posters would be complaining she looked frumpy if it were knee length.

  32. Maternity wear looks so much better on Kate. In fit, this coat compared to the other two this week, looks so much better. I really like this coat. HOWEVER, at first I thought it was the cream coat she wore last month. Then I thought it was the same style as the baby blue coat from Seraphine she wore in December, but just in a different color. I can't believe it is a new coat all together. Why buy a new coat if it looks the same as all you others? Especially when it is a maternity coat and cannot be worn later. Sometimes Kate makes no sense to me :)

I agree with other posters, that a different shoe would have looked great! I personally would have chosen beautiful suede royal blue pump.

    1. When I first saw her shoes I was hoping they were her blue pumps. But alas they were black.

  33. Kate looks lovely as always, however, I would LOVE to see her accent with some brighter pops of color and a little more fun! Perhaps a bright pink pump instead of always such neutral tones. She looks so beautiful in the jewel tones. Would love to see more bold colors! Thank you for such a lovely post, as always!

    1. Just what a 34 weeks pregnant lady needs, new stilettos! I was wearing my husband's Clark Desert Boots at that stage. His winter jacket, too. I love the pretty maternity clothes nowadays.

  34. Also, I do wish she would change up the coat dress look a bit. As lovely as she always looks, it sometimes seems like a series of different coat dresses. I know she is serving a role and dresses conservatively but would be fun to see her change up her style and surprise us a bit more from time to time! Maybe channel Amal Clooney (classy but still a bit edgy)

  35. Lovely outfit! Her hair was a bit too voluminous perhaps but goodness knows if my hair could look like that I would wear it so every day! (I suffer from straight, fine hair. Much woe!) I thought she looked like she had a great time, and also Lady Mary looked a bit nervous to me! Just the way her smile seemed so wide and her neck and arms looked very tense. I do that sometimes when I am so excited I am nervous.

Odd question--during engagements, especially if she stays longer like she did today, do they have opportunities for bathroom breaks? I ask because I am 4 months pregnant and can't go longer than 1/2 an hour sometimes! I just feel like it is odd for Kate to be all, "Excuse me one second." and disappear while everyone waits!

I do love Rebecca's outfit and she looks beautiful, but I would not have worn a skirt that short to work, even with dark tights.

Thank you for the wonderful updates this week, Charlotte! I'm enjoying them very much. :)

Kate looks nice. I'm glad she picked a maternity coat. The look is nothing special, but she looks good. I do think that calling this an official appearance or work is silly. This seemed more for Kate's benefit than for Downton's, which is doing very well and doesn't seem to really need help. She's a huge fan and she got to tour the set of a very popular show. How is that work? Especially if she's already toured it and Sophie and Camilla were here just last week. Maybe it's still work, but I wish she'd do something more substantial instead. She's had plenty of engagements this week and has more tomorrow, but two days are just church services and one day was getting to have her Downton fan dreams come true. So we have one out of four days actually related to any of her patronages. I'm not saying that Kate shouldn't be going to things like Friday's Afghanistan service, but everything just seems so fluffy. The art stuff yesterday was good, and the appearance scheduled the day after the St. Patrick's day event is good. But visiting Downton? Notice that most of the quotes coming from the Downton cast are about how Kate was excited to be there, not that they were excited to have her there. I don't think they really needed a morale boost or anything from her. It's stuff like this that also doesn't make me get why she has so few patronages. The argument for less patronages is that she can then really focus on them. But it's not like she does many appearances with each of her patronages every year. She does a select few and then does random other stuff not related to her patronages, or only vaguely related.

    1. Let's be honest, this appearance was about as much 'work' as going to Disneyland. It takes some planning, but as soon as you get there, it is all fun. This appearance should probably have fallen under the same title as the Goring visit. There is no work involved here. It is just a fun visit for Kate, same as the Harry Potter visit. Which is fine. But don't count it in the court circular as 'work'. Calling it 'work' is such a disservice to those who actually do work. I think this was just a way to bump up Kate's work numbers before she goes on maternity leave. Which she will be gone for awhile, so the numbers will be lower. So this was a way to help with her year end totals. It is a smart PR. If Kate made this many appearances each month, I would actually be happy. But sadly I know this many appearance is just because of maternity leave, but I will take what I get and just be happy she is out and about!

That said, I noticed the same thing as you Maggie, that she stayed almost twice as long at this fun appearance than at her charities. It makes me sad. I wish she would make more effort with her charities. Staying almost twice as long with a TV show tour than with your charities says a lot about her priorities. This week is all about fluff events, but like I said I am glad to just see her. Sadly I will take what I can get, but I think that will only last for awhile. There has to be more substance in the long run!

    2. ANYTHING is work when the press is there. While she may have enjoyed Downton, she was still "on" in a way she would not be for a pleasure visit. Look at how she smiles in all the photos with the cast, then just collapses with exhaustion in the car. This is work not because of where she is, but because of the image she is presenting. Her real job is not to bring attention to charities* and causes, it is to sell the brand, which is, essentially, the magic of royalty. She's 8 months pregnant, in stilettos, with a full blow out and the world watching, it doesn't matter what she's doing, that's not a pleasure trip.

*Having said that, I will add that I really admire her but do think, if I were in her position, I would want to take advantage of the platform to bring attention to causes I really care about, and don't really understand why she doesn't (unless there is a preference by the higher ups, by which I mean the Queen or PoW, for her not to).

    3. Ladies rememeber that Catherine was invited to the set. And as far as the other two royals visiting before Catherine, Well they saved the BEST for last.

Also Kate spent more time on this set than she has for any charity or patronage related appearance (a single one not a day's worth) since she's been pregnant. Two and a half hours at the Downton set, vs. around 90 minutes for everything else, and never more than 2 hours.

Very interesting point Maggie... I don't want to feel disappointed about that but I do. My only defense would be at charities she is in one location where here she moved from set to set to dressing room to makeup? I think she also spent more time visiting Harry Potter world (about the same amount as this visit I think...) maybe her private visits are longer?

  39. Love the coat and the fact that she's wearing a maternity coat. It fits great on her. I'm not a fan of the color but that's me, I personally don't think white and ivory are flattering in solid-color dresses or coats. But this was a hit today. Looked like she was having a lot of fun with the cast and crew.
Wish Dame Maggie could have been there, I'm sure she would have given Kate some good lines.
Charlotte, can we presume that the Cambridges are staying at their Kensington Palace home now, with the birth so close and all of these engagements? I'm a little confused about where Kate is at and where William is.
I can't imagine Kate would be helicoptering in and out every day to London, to and from Norfolk?
I understand how the aristos' social calendar works basically but is this the time they're all in their London homes, then they go to their country houses as late spring and summer arrive?
And I hope this busy schedule continues after her "maternity leave" is over - and do hope that leave is of a shorter duration than the yearlong one after George's birth!!
Rebecca, as usual, looks sour and displeased to be there.

  42. Most importantly, Kate looks healthy and happy, but I must admit I am loving this look. With her hair and complexion she can really pull off a white coat.

My only little "p.s." is that I wish she had reached for her sapphire earrings. :)

I loved Kate's look today! Her hair was gorgeous, the coat was gorgeous (we are already at 82 degrees in CA, I WISH we were wearing coats still!) and her make-up looked great! The last picture of her in the car looks like she is exhausted!
Charlotte: on to the Downton Abbey stuff: I L O V E the show! My favorite character right now is Rose. Mary is a close second with her feminism bit, I find myself wanting to know who else she will sleep with, who will find out..all very engaging. Back to Rose, though, I find myself wanting to see what she is wearing. I think she is darling and I love her outfits the most on the show. I have to say that I think Elizabeth McGovern's outfits are also very good and they seem to match her eyes with different colors on the outfits so well. Makes me want to dress like it ;)
Lastly (saving the worst for last) I have a problem when writers use the same characters and plots over and over. What I mean by this is: Anna and Bates...sigh* How many times will we see them go to prison? It gets old and boring for me. I find myself not even caring about that part of each episode I watch. How about something GOOD happen to them, then later (when art imitates life, hee hee) then something bad, but not prison again.
    I dunno-it's my 2 cents.

What I really enjoyed about today's visit is the evident mutual pleasure seen in the photos. . .

Also cream is a good colour on her. Kate has warm undertones, which is why this warm colour is naturally more suited to her than the pink from earlier this week.

  48. No matter what the cost, the coat worked well. And frankly better to spend very little for those things that you only wear once in the last two months. I just have to say that the way she looked in her car after is so much the way I looked in the last month of my pregnancies. I do think she is due around the 20th, not May. Her face has that look. But I know, I know, I am just guessing:) Ali

  49. I keep coming back to look at pictures from today. Kate looked really pretty today and quiet happy! I already commented on her coat but her hair looks great today. I am tempted to buy this coat and alter it. Would that be odd to wear a maternity coat when not pregnant, even after altering??

Just loved the Duchess in cream. Wonderful ! This time the coat really fit her too. Wasn't such a fan of the animal print coat the other day.
I'm a great fan of the show, of course, and loved seeing the videos and the interacting with the actors.

Wonderful post, Charlotte... Thank you. My favourite character is the witty Dowager Duchess, but I also love Lady Mary. Can't wait for the next season :-) ! Julian Fellowes, the writer, is doing a terrific job. I'm in awe.

  51. I like the thread someone started about favorite characters. But oh, to choose one! Or two. I do like Anna and Bates. They seem somehow so much themselves, without as much reference to the historical era as in most of the characters. Just nice people, and I hope the murder, if that is what it was, gets solved next season.

Charlotte, this is a lovely post. I love Kate's artsy visits, as well as her focus on children. These areas are obviously so well chosen given her interests.

I wonder whether, perhaps during Kate's maternity leave, you might do a Kate Loves Coats post. It would be nice to have for reference. I forget the names of all the white, green, and blue coats, especially since I am not British and many of the brands are unfamiliar to me. Just an idea, and I would love all the pictures and discussion of favorites and of course unfavorites!

  52. It seems that some people are forgetting that Prince William has engagement Saturday 25th Wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in London to commemorate the Centenary of the Gallipoli Campaign and Anzac Day Attend the Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey. So Kate's due date maybe well before this.

Such an exciting day and it looked as if both Kate and the cast were a bit starstruck! I am a HUGE fan of Downton and loved this post! My only disappointment is Dame Maggie Smith was ill and could not be there. LOVE her character on the show. I also loved the picture with Lady Mary and the few with Master George. He's a doll! Matthew and Lady Mary's wedding pic....sigh. I'm thinking season 6 will bring a new romance for Mary, but none will replace Matthew. SO much to look forward to in season 6! Congrats to Jullian Fellowes and cast for all the success of DA. Kate looked lovely in white and obviously enjoyed herself. It seemed to be such a fun day celebrating the achievements of the show. I will admit I'm a bit jealous of Kate on this engagement!

Thank you for this post Charlotte! Lovely job as usual!
