Kate Shops at John Lewis in Zara, Vote for Kate's Best Separates Look & Favoured Pieces Brought Back!

It's wonderful to wake up to an unexpected Kate sighting!

Following a relaxing couple of weeks with the Middleton family at Anmer Hall where they celebrated Christmas and Kate's 33rd birthday privately, the Duchess is back in London ahead of several engagements. On Monday, she was photographed leaving department store John Lewis with several shopping bags. PopSugar has several additional photographs in their story.

The Duchess was accompanied by two royal protection officers. An onlooker spotted Kate and told E! she "shopped for at least an hour" and Kate "carried all her own bags and they did not look light". The department store has a sizeable sale at the moment and we expect the Duchess grabbed a few bargains.

John Lewis

Kate's dusty-pink, straight-cut coat is a Zara piece (with thanks to WKW FB readers Melissa and Rebecca). The 50% wool, 50% viscose garment originally retailed for £80 before going on sale for £30 and selling out. It's a great piece for wearing out and about and the roomy silhouette is perfect for Kate at this stage in her pregnancy. Kate obviously favours soft-pink/pale coats - with several in her wardrobe.

Kate selected her much-loved Russell and Bromley 'Charge It' black suede boots.

Although Kate's bag looks green in the photos, it is thought to be her grey Tod's D-Styling bag, with the shade of colour changed by photo editing. However, it's entirely possible she has a green Tod's bag too.

Tod's

Kate completed the look with a black scarf and wore her hair in a ponytail.

Continuing on with our polls - today we're asking you to vote for Kate's 'Best Separates Look'. We have just three options for this poll.

Firstly, we take a look at the chic icy-blue Alexander McQueen suit Kate wore for Trooping the Colour.

Whilst exploring a family connection at Bletchley Park, Kate repeated her McQueen military-style blouse and navy skirt with gold anchor-embossed embellishment.

For the Place2Be Awards in November, the Duchess teamed a black mesh 'Emilia' top with peplum detail from Hobbs London with a peacock blue skirt from Jenny Packham.

Next, we have news on three popular items of clothing worn by Kate during the royal tour last year. The L.K. Bennett poppy-print 'Lasa' dress proved to be your favourite of Kate's dresses from the tour.

Such was the popularity of the garment, the brand has released an updated version of the dress - the 'Lasana' printed dress. The vibrant pink floral print makes this piece a wonderful piece for spring/summer. Whether it's for a summer wedding, garden party or any social function it stands out for all the right reasons. I'd love to see Kate wearing this colourway too. It's still available for £250 in all sizes, however, it is expected to sell out quickly.

Readers will remember Kate's pretty Zimmermann 'Roamer' day dress.

The dress has also been updated with a subtle tonal-blue pattern. The confetti embroidered floral-print dress features a gathered bodice, fitted waist and flared skirt to create a feminine silhouette. It retails for £440 at Net-A-Porter.

Net-A-Porter
The runway version of Kate's blue Michael Kors coat is available in limited sizes at Yoox for $1,451. The single-breasted coat has a lapel collar and a two-tone pattern.

Finally, Kate graces the cover of Majesty Magazine's newest addition!

We'll see you tomorrow when Kate visits The Clore Art Room! :)

  1. Thanks Charlotte, wonderful post and to see her too. Heck she looks pretty tired to me, either the pregnancy or George or simply her genes. Tomorrow will see.

I do not know it is only me but I wanted to vote in the poll but thet vote button was missing?!

Haha, the gift lists of the tours are out now. Geroge himself got more gifts on the AUS/NZ tour than his parents together :P Also a lot of gifts were given to Charles and Camilla to give to George. When you see those lists you realize you would have to work REALLY hard to make sure that kid wasn't spoiled!! And wow, so many books. George must have a small library of his own by now :P I also saw some jewelry to Kate in there, including 2 opal brooches. Would be fun to see if/when she will wear them.

Here are the links to the lists:

Goodness you are right! I always wondered what they do with the flowers, toys, stuffed animals they receive when greeting the public. They must have a display room of things they want to keep and then everything else in archived and tagged to be placed somewhere correct? And that is A LOT of thank you cards to have to write. I hope they at least sign them themselves and not printed off of a computer or stamped

I know that the flowers usually are sent to a before chosen retirement home. Also flowers from like state banquets and such (in a documentary about the queen you can hear the queen as what home the flowers will be sent to today). I think this is really sweet, god knows they will appreciate it!

Glad to see the vote button appeared :-)

Yes, she looks exhausted. Must be the pregnancy. I wonder if the family will be flying off as usual to the sun soon.

Being a born and bred Parisian, I must just say how shocked and saddened we all have been at the tragic events of last week.
But it is not only Paris that has suffered. So many people around the world are suffering for the same reasons. My heart goes out to all.

    1. Theresa, my heart goes out to the victims' families and all French citizens. I cannot tell you how much I admired the way the French people united against senseless tragedy. And I am very sorry that our president or vice president didn't make the trip.

Thank you, dear royalfan and Sarah from Calif.
I feel we are all united around the world in this new type of dramatic war.
I also feel that people are being a bit harsh about the absence of President Obama or Vice President Biden = the secret service would never have allowed it, and they were right. The march in the street was very "open".
But yes, maybe America could have sent someone with a higher profile. But anyway, people here didn't feel abandoned by the US. Come on ! You suffered as much !
As I said, we are all united in this.
      Love to both of you

    4. Remembering the strict and elaborate arrangements in my little town when the President visited, I agree that security would have been impossible in Paris. Secretary of State John Kerry has been in India, but he is on his way to Paris. My choice would have been for him to reverse the itinerary. But he speaks fluent French and will express our US sympathy and support - with a "giant hug," he said.

I thought she looked tired, too--but then I surely would hate to have a photograph made of myself every time I stick my head out the door!! (Lest we envy Kate's station in life!)

  8. The scarf looks to be charcoal grey, so the bag is probably grey also. I hope Kate's hair isn't that light, either! Other than the odd colors, she looks very nice for a shopping trip on a cold day, and obviously found some good purchases.

  9. Perhaps the color of her hair was edited in the photos? It looks much lighter than normal, with some darker roots showing.

The John Lewis store must be a real trap. Much like when you are just going to "pop in" to IKEA (Yes, I'm Swedish!!) and buy some candles, new glasses or whatever and end up coming out the other end with a new bookshelf and 2 IKEA bags of nick-nacks :P

Hah, when she shopped in Wales you could see like frozen pizzas and such. And also, remember William and the nappies? At polo like 2 weeks after George was born. First in an interview he said that it was a little hard playing because all he could think about is nappies. If that was just the comment it could have just been a little cheeky response, but the following showed that he REALLY couldn't stop thinking about nappies. He was presented with a gift for George and said "Is it nappies?!" and later he was heard saying "Must remember to get nappies". You can just hear the situation before the game. Kate telling "And you CAN'T forget to pick up nappies on the way home. Really, you can't forget, we are almost out". Haha, one of Williams most human (outwards) moments I think. A rare instance on him not fully putting on his work-face :P

My daughter and I traveled to London over Christmas. John Lewis is a fantastic place to shop. We recently moved into a new house (to us) and I have been looking for curtains for our bedroom. I found exactly what I wanted, color, print, and size there. they shipped them and I got them in a week. I'm delighted that I shop where Kate shops.

I checked out the pictures from Pop Sugar and noticed the comments on there - man those people are vicious! I don't envy her the lifetime of criticism over EVERYTHING she does. Some people really ought to get a life! I was thrilled to see her out and about - always love to see Kate no matter where she's at. I am hoping that we get to see a little more of this pregnancy soon - her tummy is always hidden away!! She's beautiful when pregnant (and another time for that matter), but pregnant women just glow - she should embrace this time of her life!!!! Can't wait for tomorrow!

    2. Rhonda, I agree with much of what you say, but I don't think Kate is hiding her pregnancy. I believe it is just old fashioned modesty and there is nothing wrong with that.

  16. Are we sure these pics are current? At this point in her pregnancy with George, she was sporting a much larger bump. She looked bigger in NY at the beginning of last month than she does now. Just thinking that they may be a couple months old and we're just now seeing them?

  17. Hi Ladies & what a Treat to pop in here to find there was a Kate Sighting:) Had a few thoughts & was curious if anyone else shares them too? First, (as an avid photographer) I was struck by the yellow tone of the pic? Could have been due to the limited lighting, a filter in use on the camera or yes, any editing. However I thought the Store's Bags may serve a clue? What color are they normally? As they look to match the color of her Tod's Bag? Any factors involved would likely effect all of the bags' colors? Second, I also agree with Lynn.... My wouldn't we all have some pics of us not looking as perky & glowing, if we had photogs swarming us every time we were out & about? I know she knows this & obviously takes care to primp (& I love her shopping look:) but I think she looks great:) just looks like she's concentrating as she's navigating her walk down the steps whilst carrying all those apparently heavy bags. I'm thinking I'm always exhausted after a stretch of entertaining guests over The Holidays, & in ones own home no less. If she is tired, well that would make sense to me:) but she also has her head tilted a bit down, again for the steps, which I know from my work is Never a flattering pose, with the face, neck & jowls all relaxed:( I just think it's great to see her out & about:) it's got to be peaceful to have such a secluded home, but gosh cabin fever can set in, especially with all that we can take care of online or all the staff she can ask to run her errands! Sometimes a little Retail Therapy is Just The Thing to lift ones spirit on a dreary January day:) Hope Everyone here had a Blessed & somewhat relaxing Holiday Season:) Thank You Charlotte for All The Work you do to manage your Blog & provide us with such great & accurate information, along with extra surprises like today:) This is truly a treat, especially during the grey midwinter days:)
    Cheers!

  18. Thanks for the posting and siting of Kate shopping. Like the other readers, I think Kate looks very fatigued in this photo. No doubt her pregnancy and chasing after young George take its toll! The colors in this photo are very distorted ~ her hair looks very light, and like the comment above, I hope it isn't that light. Looking forward to her engagements this week and more postings!! 22. I don't think any of the re-issued outfits are really improved, though the red poppies are better than the blue. I like Kate's versions of the others much better.

The Bletchley Park separates are the nicest, and very appropriate for the occasion. I had forgotten this outfit was not a dress. The suit for Trooping the Color suffers from the frequent McQueen error of a bad looking front fastening. The zipper is not well put in. Otherwise, that would be an elegant outfit.

Well ladies, concerning Kate's appearance, she probably is a little tired also I'm thinking Kate lightens up on the make up on off days ( me too) . Make up does make us sparkle but glad she can pop out to shop without having to be perfect (???))
I'm thrilled to see the dashing young body guards by her side. I get the feeling those guys would lay down their lives. God Bless them.
Hey in the photos her coat looks ivory. I love light pink coats. Wish I could see the true color.
As always , thank you Charlotte!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not the best photo of Kate out and about. The color in these pictures is hideous and the quality isn't that great either. Hope Popsugar didn't pay high dollar for them. The coat IS the pink Zara coat, though it looks ivory in the pics and I think we have to go with the handbag being the grey Tod's D-bag.
Kate herself looks not the best, grim, puffy, ruddy and tired.
As for Mustique, I expect the sudden burst of engagements is exactly meant to counter the criticism they had last year when they jetted off to Mustique without having done much in the way of work. If I remember right, this is Carole's 60th birthday celebration and I can't imagine they would miss that.
Also, can we please lose the illusion that Kate is stuck tending to George and cleaning the house at Anmer Hall and cooking all the meals, doing laundry, etc. etc. all by herself? They've got a number of staff (not every hire is announced to the media) in Norfolk as well as London, so it's not as if she's going it alone.

    1. Why do you always suggest some nasty, hidden agenda? Today's engagement is replacing the one cancelled because she was ill. This week is Fostering Awareness week, for which Catherine is doing her bit
Monday's are all local, but in the deprived area of Kensington.
If you look at the Court Circular you will see very few engagements for anyone.

  25. I don't think Kate looks tired or worn out in these photos as people above stated. I think this is how Kate really looks and people are not used to seeing her naturally. These photos are not photo-shopped like the ones we normally see. This is how she looks when not touched-up all the time. Also, she is not smiling in these photos. Kate is very pretty when smiling, but sadly like a lot of women she has a grumpy or 'bitchy' resting face. So, the unairbrushed photo combined with her not smiling, makes her look 'tired'. When really this is just how a normal woman looks when not 'on'. I'm not being mean, just being honest. The same is true of most celebrities when they are not all done up and touched up in photos. They look different in real life.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah, same, I don't think she looks especially tired or upset or anything. I think this is just her resting face and how she looks naturally without a lot of makeup and photoshop/editing.
      I like her outfit!

      Delete
    2. I think this is her "I'm not looking at or smiling for photographers" look. And I do not blame her one bit! If she smiled, she would only be criticized for enjoying the attention.

  26. Hello all. Agree the pink color of the coat does not show. She actually looks really good to me! She is looking down and with the general quality of the photo I did not see "tired". I actually have been struck over the last few months how few grey roots, i.e. None, she has shown. I think she learned from her last pregnancy how to use a safe hair dye i.e. henna. I also think she has adjusted her wardrobe from her first pregnancy. She really is very very much like most women with their transitions of clothing choices over the years, we all start to learn. :)

Not crazy about top coats used as full length coats but it is a nice garment. It seems surprising that Kate would go on a big shopping excursion if she was feeling tired- when she tries to look serious or is unhappy at being photographed, she has a sour expression, seen it in other snaps when she wasn't pregnant. It's not her best look -- but her dazzling smile makes up for it. (The queen can look rather grim too at times.) Kate isn't wearing as much make-up either and with her hair pulled back, makes her eyes look strained.

Polls very interesting -- last time I looked almost dead even on the evening gowns. Look forward to seeing Kate out today.
