Kate Returns to Engagements with State Visit Role

It was a windy day in London as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed President Tony Tan Keng Yam of Singapore and his wife Mary Chee Bee Kiang at the start of a four-day state visit to Britain.

The appearance marks Kate's first engagement in eleven weeks. The Duchess has been suffering from Hyperemesis gravidarum and spent much of the last two months with her family in Bucklebury. Yesterday Kensington Palace revealed the couple are due their second child in April and Kate's condition is "steadily improving".

The second-in-line to the throne and his wife greeted Mr. Tan and his wife at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington.

It is Kate's first formal role in a state visit, and perhaps a sign of Her Majesty's growing confidence in the younger generation of royals playing a more significant part in important events (the couple's role is normally performed by Charles and Camilla). William, Kate and Harry travelled to Belgium and France earlier this year for World War One centenary commemorations, representing the Queen. While the Duke and Duchess will definitely not be attending the state banquet this evening, one could safely assume that will be the next step for them. Perhaps next year.

Kate told the president over tea "I've been looking forward to getting out of the house, that's for sure". It is wonderful to see her looking so happy today, hopefully it will be smooth sailing for her for the remainder of her pregnancy. It's been a very difficult time for Kate and as expected she looks quite tired.

More from The Mirror's live blog:

'Kate made the president laugh by telling him 'It's a bit colder than our last meeting', and he replied: 'The weather is lovely'.
The room at the Royal Garden Hotel where they met had a panoramic view of Kensington Gardens . The President commented on the beautiful view of Kensington Palace from the hotel and William joked: 'You can probably see into our bedroom window which is a bit worrying - I wouldn't look too closely.'

The couple took part in the ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards, to which they travelled by car with the presidential couple.

Reporters noted how happy and radiant Kate looked.

What were you doing at 03.30 this morning? The Household Division was wide awake, busy making its final preparations for the state visit. While London slept, the horses and men of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment carried out an early morning rehearsal for their role as Sovereign's Escort.

The level of attention to detail and meticulous planning is admirable, ensuring the event goes off seamlessly.

As we mentioned previously, William and Kate had the opportunity to meet the couple in Singapore during their 2012 tour of South-East Asia. It seemed fitting for the Duke and Duchess to welcome them to London, just as they had been so warmly welcomed during their visit.

The Queen and Prince Philip greeted President Tan.

A great shot from the day.

The Cambridges joined Her Majesty and Prince Philip for the carriage procession back to Buckingham Palace.

William and Kate travelled in the Scottish State Coach with Singaporean government minister Grace Fu, while the Queen took the Diamond Jubilee Coach with Mr Tan, and Prince Philip took the Australia State Coach with Mrs Tan.

The couple chatted and exchanged smiles.

The procession travelled along the Mall before the royals - with the exception of Kate - returned to the palace, where lunch was held for the visitors. The Palace announced this morning the Duchess would not be attending the lunch; one imagines with tonight's engagement Kate did not want to feel overly fatigued.

The Duchess selected a new grey coatdress by her go-to brand Alexander McQueen.

The bespoke plaid piece features a fitted bodice and full skirt. It was a stylish choice for the nature of the event and the weather conditions. A coatdress is very much a typical piece for Kate, particularly for important engagements.

What Kate Wore correctly noted the material is used in several pieces from McQueen's Resort 2015 collection. Designs from the collection included collages of classic patterns including houndstooth and Prince of Wales check.

Kate wore a black dress underneath.

Kate repeated the grey Jane Taylor hat she wore for an Easter Sunday service in Sydney during the royal tour in April.

It appears Kate wore her Prada Suede Round-Toe Pumps (the gold logo is missing but otherwise the shoes is identical). Made in Italy, the shoes feature leather insole and lining, leather outsole and 4 1/4 inch covered high heel. For those fond of the pumps, Nordstrom currently has round toe Prada pumps in black and nude.

Kate accessorised with her Annoushka pearls.

Kate wore her Mappin and Webb Empress white gold and diamond pendant. The sparkling piece is set in 18 carat white gold and retails for £,1850.

And completed the look with a new Jenny Packham clutch.

The Duchess wore her hair in a simple ponytail

A quick reminder, we'll be back with another post this evening when the Duchess attends the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards at the Natural History Museum.

Just so wonderful to see the Duchess looking happy ! She must feel better. I do hope she will enjoy her pregnancy from now on, even though she must still be suffering.
I thought she looked just gorgeous. Loved everything about her outfit. And such gorgeous hair, of course !
Looking forward to seeing her outfit tonight too :)

  5. You are so quick, thanks for your great effort to bring us news and these kinds of informative posts.

I am happy that life starts to return to 'normal' for Kate, this is her life now, having and doing so little:(

For the fashion front, I liked the pattern but at the moment I saw your photo of MQ 2015 collection, omg they are stunning, I am sure I have chosen something else, this pattern is a bit common comparing with the others. But probably she did not want to stick out too much. She does not normally wear new wth the queen but everybody is talking about her either way, she was the star of the day no matter what she wears.

Some things did not change like make up, jewellery, coatdress. But it is her choice.

I hope she is getting better and stronger day by day, and keeps suprising us too.

I bet she recycles sth in the evening.

  6. She look lovely with her hair pulled back. The coat is fantastic as well. You can she looks a bit worn but how great is it to see her up and smiling?! I'm very happy she was feeling good today.

  7. Loved the coat and of course remember the hat from Easter in Oz--still love it. I like the way she had her hair---think it has grown a lot whilst she has been ill. Overall she looked perfect for the occasion and the weather.
Despite the smile, still think she doesn't look well. Probably wise to give the lunch a miss.

I agree. Yes, she look happy. But when she is not actively controlling her facial expression you can see how fragile she still is. But glad to see her up and about.

She looks perfect for the occasion. Beautiful but not spotlight-stealing.

    1. Hi Faith,

Oh no the dreaded coat dress!! LOL Seriously though, with the chilly, windy weather it was to be expected. And I must say it is a beautiful coat dress and I love the hat. I just wonder why it's unlined, for the amount of money it must have cost I would have thought it be lined.

I think Kate looks lovely today but still a little under the weather. I noticed in quite a few of the pictures she is not smiling, which is unusual for her, I bet she gets tired easy and hopefully will have a chance to nap before her next engagement.

      Delete
    2. I imagine it is lined. Look at it closer. I have something similar that is also lined with the same fabric. The coat dress is a very fashionable way to stay warm and the style ( I think) suits Catherine.

      Mel in SoCal

      Delete
    3. I was wondering about the lack of lining too but there must be a reason other than it was a rush
job. It is a custom design from a
couture house for a high profile
      event. Maybe the skirt wouldn't
have hung right if lined? The fabric
      looks on the stiff side.

  10. She's looking healthy!

    Mixed review:
    - Love the coat dress & hat combo! I love the subtle plaid of the coat dress, too.
    - Hair fail! Do people actually do ponytails and hats like that?! It looks awkward and childish/relaxed with such a formal outfit.
    - Jewelry is...predictable. I wish for a state visit she would have stepped it up a bit, despite it being day time. The jewelry from Charles, or perhaps something small but spectacular from the Queen.
    - A bit disappointed in the quality of the McQueen jacket. First, it was flying up! Secondly, when it was flying up I could see that it was unlined. I really think expensive, custom pieces should have a bit more thought put into them.

    1. So agree. The tailoring on the coatdress is horrendous, pulling, crooked, hemline in all directions, in need of more than a pressing. A simple lining may have helped the poor stitchmanship here. There's still no excuse for it flying up (I don't see anyone else's dresses or coats doing that), and the neckline is, as usual, too low for good taste. She needs to amp up her game when duchessing about.

      Delete
    2. Rebecca - Sweden21 October 2014 at 16:21

The difference between her coat and the others is that hers has a full skirt. That catches the wind a lot more. I agree that the tailoring is not up to the standard it should be. But to low neckline? Are you kidding me?

      Delete
    3. Anon 14:49, "when duchessing about" <- Love that! haha. It's true. I have very different standards for a wedding, a pub visit, shopping, etc than I do when Charles is using tax payer money to fund her working wardrobe. Especially when entertaining another country. I was shocked at the coat dress. Plus, she commented on how chilly it was, and that confirmed how I thought it was odd she didn't have a higher neckline, a scarf, or gloves.

      Delete
    4. How is the neckline too low? I think it is one of the more conservative V's she has ever worn.

If this is too low and the Peter Pan collars are too child-like, what on earth *is* she allowed to wear?

      Delete
    5. As with the last McQueen coat dress she wore - the cream with the Peter Pan collar - the hemline is *intentionally* shorter in front and longer in back. It's a style. You may not care for it, but it's not 'horrendous tailoring.' The bodice is pulling, though; very likely her bust size is rapidly increasing.

  13. I don't think she looks "radiant" at all. She looks tired and puffy-faced, as you'd expect of a pregnant woman who is suffering from an unpleasant complication of pregnancy. People have a tendency to say silly things about royalty rather than be realistic.

    1. Rebecca - Sweden21 October 2014 at 16:24

I kind of agree. She looks beautiful ofc. And in a way radiant. But people saying she looks so happy and healthy seems weird. Saying she looks fragile and that you can see the strain being sick has put on her is not dissing her appearance. Just acknowledging that she doesn't seem to feel so good.

      Delete
  14. Catherine looks impeccable, as usual. It certainly appears to me from some of the photos that she looks a little tired; the HG has likely taken quite a toll. Cudos to her for attending the engagement and being such a wonderful hostess today.

I love the new hairstyle she debuted.

  15. Question whether it was a coat dress, as she quite obviously had a dress underneath.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Am I crazy, or hasn't she always worn a dress under coat dresses? Under her outlet Missoni she would wear the blue dress from the day after the wedding, etc. We quite often see her recycling dresses (especially store bought, off the rack dresses) under her coat dresses.

      Delete
  16. I'm delighted to see that she has finally come back. However, for some reasons, I think she still looks sick to me. When I first saw the coat, I think the style of the coat is a bit repetitive. I think she has so many coats in this style simply in different colours, but I did like the pattern. It's classic. However, when I later saw another style from the collection, I would prefer other patterns though..
On another note, I'm glad that she finally put her hair up. So she won't be busy with her hair if it's windy. However, I think the ponytails and hat aren't the great combinations. I think it would be better with an up-do.

Anyway, apart from my mixed feelings with the way she dressed, it's great to have her back! :D
    Looking fwd to this evening.

  17. Glad she'd back and looks well. From far, I thought it was the repeated Michael Kors coat she wore in Australia...it's well tailored and glen plaid is one of my favorite patterns.

You've made it Ma'am! Who has said that the fairy tale has come to an end? We all know that fairy tales do not exist in real life. Life is made of joys to enjoy but also of trials, and we all have to learn from them both. However the fairy tale does exist in the love you share with Prince William and your little family. And that love and empathy you show to the people you meet is shinning through your eyes. And here is the magic. Here is the true fairy tale! And it goes on and on, enchanting your well-wishers.

  20. Kate looks lovely when she smiles. With her face in repose, one can see fatigue and the aging effects of HG. She has obviously had a bad time of it, but hopefully she is out of the woods now. Kate was photographed in the portico at Buckingham Palace, but probably did not stay for the luncheon. Perhaps eating is still tricky.

The McQueen coatdress, appropriately chosen for color and design, should have been fitted nearer the event. Maybe the black skirt is actually the lining, showing lessons learned about skirts blowing up. The heels of the pumps are so tall that I wonder whether it would be better to choose lower ones for welcoming much shorter guests. My husband picked up a shoe with heels like those at Nordstrom, and just shook his head in disbelief.

All in all, it seems to have been a very successful morning. The Queen, by the way, also looked lovely in her navy blue.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Rebecca - Sweden21 October 2014 at 16:27

Her chest might be red for a few reasons. The cold weather might be one. She might also be red in her face but she has make up there and probably not on her chest. Also, feeling sick etc can give you "blushing" as can being nervous (which I would be going back to work).

Hopefully, she will feel better and better as her pregnancy progresses. As for this outfit, I'm sorry, but I don't care for it at all. It's so dowdy--not something I'd expect a 32-year-old would wear. Honestly, I haven't liked any of the outfits Kate has worn this year, starting with the tour Down Under.

    4. She looks very tanned at the evening event.
I can't think she would have spray-tanned, that was one of the first indicators - that she cancelled her spray tan appointments - that she was pregnant the last time but I can't think what else it would be.
And at the evening event, it looks tan, hands, arms, face and the tops of her feet that are visible in her sandals. And it's not red, it's tan.

Funny and true, but it was horribly windy - we took off from Heathrow and winds were very high, many flights cancelled. I don't mind a bit of a Marilyn moment as long as there is something underneath and the ponytail was inspired and so well done.

She does still look so weary but must have had a lie-down afterwards because she looked much fresher in the evening. (Think it's all the same day - we're in transit and don't know whether I'm coming or going.plus Internet very dodgy.) So beautiful in the evening - sexy and yet subtle and her hair looked so nice. Loved the modern jewellery with that dress - just perfect.

Even though tired, she does look healthy - her face not too drawn and thin. Nice that she is feeling better.

  34. So good to see Kate in circulation again! I feel so sorry for any woman who has had to endure HG. My first impression is that she does look tired, but still putting forth her best effort.
As for her outfit, I don't know how anyone could complain that it's ill fitting. Yes it is a standard "royal" coatdress, which is a bit disappointing, but the fit is fine and for gosh sakes, the neckline is NOT too low. During her trip abroad there were comments that some of the coats were buttoned up too high around her neck.
However...I would love, instead, to have seen Kate appear in the OTHER McQueen coatdress on the model on the left, with the blue flowers at the bottom. That would have been a smash! And at the same time, totally appropriate.

Hope she is back to full health soon.

  35. This I hope would stop anyone from speculating she is not truly ill. That is a woman trying VERY hard to do her job, with the world watching, while obviously feeling awful. She has a grey tint and looks quite fragile. It makes me admire her for pulling here self out of bed for this, and also makes me wonder how people can say she doesn't do her best for the monarchy. Even agreeing to have another baby is serving the crown after what she went through last time.

I have enjoyed reading Charlotte's blog about the Duchess. Lovely to see her back, looking beautiful, as always, if a bit wan. She must have had a terrible few months. Hope the next six are clear sailing. Thanks Charlotte.

Wow! Kate is very chic, I really like the ensemble. The coatdress is marvellous, the ponytail elegant, the jewellery appropriate and the best of all is that Kate looks much better and healthier than I have expected. You can see that she is not totally fit again, but at least able to live a "normal" life and not being sick 24/7.
If I had chosen Kate's outfit, I would have picked a black hat and a black belt, because this would have worked better for me, but this is focusing on details.
Like everyone else here I am so curious to see her again in another outfit tonight.

  40. Great post, thank you! I just watched a video of her on the carriage ride -- ugh, all of that jostling and movement could not be pleasant. She looked like she was concentrating hard on just holding it all together.

Yeah, her eyes in that made me want to hug her. They should have ended her part of the visit before the carriage ride, in my opinion. All that wobbling around.... :S

  41. For the critics - A Marilyn Monroe moment doesnt occur with a pencil skirt nearly to the knees. It only would have been a flub if she wasn’t wearing anything underneath. The coat is not her dress, the dress is her dress, and we saw nothing scandalous. The red coat in NZ was different, because it WAS her actual dress.

Nah, not a big deal today. The winds were apparently fierce today, it looked like a heavy coat anyways. I wouldn’t get disappointed over that.

She looked lovely if a bit worn today, which I expected. I quite liked the coat!! I can tell she was really trying hard today. Can't wait to see her tonight :)

The Duchess still looks very ill, but I think she must be feeling a LOT better/the circles under her eyes, etc., are probably just residual leftovers from a long period of being sick. The reason I say this is because if she is still feeling as ill as she looks, I cannot imagine they would book two engagements in one day for her. That and the fact that she was seen with William at a pub a few days ago, and looked good (or as much as one can tell from the grainy pictures) during the doctor's visit, seems to indicate that she probably really is feeling much better, but her body/face are still readjusting. To be honest, for me, Kate often looks much worse when not smiling (and especially when also not wearing makeup, i.e. candid shots from things other than appearances). I think that she is generally so skinny, and also probably a huge user of so many products, that she generally looks older and has a lot of lines under her eyes. That picture of her shopping in London right before her wedding in that black wrap dress is a good example. Generally, it's harder to tell during her public appearances because she has makeup on/is smiling a lot, but in this appearance, it seems like she went much lighter than usual on her facial makeup, which isn't helping the appearance of looking ill. Anyways, my point is simply that while she looks pretty ill still, I cannot imagine that they would book this engagement, much less two in one day, unless she is feeling much better. I highly doubt that public pressure to see her played much of a role, given how public pressure for her to ramp up her duties while healthy has not been very effective. And she is carrying the spare to the throne - protecting the baby is the primary concern, not to mention that Kate herself has been very protected/coddled since marrying William.
Something else that makes me feel that she must be feeling much better is William's interactions with her - for the most part, he does not seem to be overly concerned with making sure she is okay and/or supporting her. I'm not saying he's being a bad husband! I just think that he is often very gentle with her, even in public, and it just seems like in this appearance, he isn't at all, which leads me to believe that he isn't worried, so she must be feeling better.

One last thought - her makeup - am I right in thinking that it's much lighter than usual? There have been people posting on other websites about rumors that this was a specific choice in order to emphasize that she has been sick, and that is why she hasn't been working. Of course, it could just be she wasn't in the mood to spend as much time on her makeup as usual. Who knows. I'm not saying I agree with these "rumors," but I do find them interesting given the lighter-than-usual makeup (if I'm right about that). Thoughts?
P.S. My take on the rumors is that it's impossible for us to know what the thinking behind the lighter makeup was (and maybe I'm wrong that it's lighter), and to attribute it to "playing the role of being sickly" is probably unfair. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if it was true, at least to a certain extent. Makeup is pretty powerful. It can cover up just about anything. The difference in makeup-less Kate vs. Kate at public appearances makes it clear that for her, makeup can cover up a lot of her lines. So why not today? I wouldn't blame her/palace PR for wanting to show, or "prove", that she really has been sick, and that is why she hasn't been able to work. People have been making ridiculous accusations of her faking the HG. It just makes me wonder, because Kate is someone who clearly puts thought into her appearances, and is conscious of how she looks physically. So why the choice here to not cover up the bags under her eyes? To everyone who will argue that makeup can't cover up everything - yes, it can. The other reason I think this could have been a conscious decision is because after Prince George's birth, there were a few appearances during which she also looked very tired, and I think that may have been a PR decision as well to show that she was just another exhausted new mother. I think this because there were appearances VERY soon after these tired appearances during which she appeared absolutely fine/radiant - i.e. the power of makeup. I don't mean any of this in a negative way - they are a public couple who basically has a "brand" to "sell," and PR is obviously a huge part of that. But what do others think? Am I reading too much into it? Either way, it's nice to see her out and about, and I truly hope she is feeling better.

  44. Hi Charlotte, just a correction on the pumps. It's NOT PRADA becuase Prada pumps have the gold metal logo on the sole, remember? This appears to be Stuart Weitzman Power or the Plunge Pumps.

What do you and other friends think?

The Duchess really looks beautiful and fresh. I wonder if the whole ensemble would look more beautiful if she wore a black hat? Just wondering but she looks great with the grey too!

I had HG pretty badly, more than once. I was so tired of being ill and cooped up in my house or my mom's house when my husband was working late. I was very lucky that I had an amazing doctor who let me be IV hydrated at my own home after I Had been to the hospital three times. When I started to feel a little better, as in moving didn't make me throw up, I wanted to get out of the house. I wanted to go shopping at the mall. My mom knew that was a horrible idea and took me to Target. Within ten minutes I was holding on to the cart for dear life and praying the dizziness would pass. Lesson learned.

When I got home I had to lay down. Just walking around for about 20 minutes had completely exhausted me. I am glad that the DoC is feeling well enough to start trying to be "normal" again. Hopefully the two engagements in one day doesn't sideline her for another couple weeks.

  48. Not a fan of the coat and this ensemble but her dress at the photography awards is stunning.
Just not liking the daytime look. The fabric of the coat looks lumpy and I just don't think that A-line skirts are flattering unless you're 6'3" and weigh 80 pounds - in other words, unless you're a runway model.
The neckline is fine. The tailoring down the front looks unfinished.
This look seems - overdone and almost too overdone when you look at how simply yet classy the president's wife is dressed and how the queen is dressed.
Kate doesn't look well at all in these photos although she does look better in the photography award ceremony photos that are just appearing, the event that took place a few hours after this event.
She looks like she's put on more weight at this stage in this pregnancy vs. the first pregnancy and she very much needed to do that, she looked emaciated the last few times we saw her before the initial pregnancy announcement. Wondering if her extreme thinness going into the pregnancy at all contributed to the severity of this bout of HG.
One other note - she looks really tanned at the evening event, not just her face but her hands and arms and even the tops of her feet. Just an observation.

  49. How many of you can see who perfectly the crown would look on William's head -- as can be easily imaged from the first photo Charlotte posted of the Duke and Duchess traveling in the Scottish State Coach today??!!!

  50. I agree with posters who stated that she looked tired; perfectly understandable given the circumstances.

The pattern of this coatdress is classic (nothing dated about it), but I do think it is screaming for a black belt (and hat). And it was lovely to see her hair up!

    1. Royalfan, I agree. She does look tired in some of the photos.

Also agree that a black belt and a black hat would have given this coat dress a little more interest. I'm glad her hair is pulled back, but I think a chignon would have looked quite sophisticated as opposed to a pony tail.

    2. So agree that it was great to see Kate back! I loved the coatdress and thought it screamed for the black hat she wore with the Dalmatian print at the end of her pregnancy with George. Black belt, too. This pony tail didn't work for me; I love the half up. But we saw much about the McQueen that we wouldn't have seen had her hair been different. I'm so glad to have Kate back! She looked as beautiful as always and I, too, wanted to hug her when she momentarily looked tired or a bit unwell. I wonder if the McQueen and the Packham she wore later were both selections for Malta that she, instead, debuted today. Lighter weight coatdress that could have been unlined for warmer temps. Light blue gown later with short under dress, bare legs, toeless shoes all for warmer temps, too. Does anyone agree these were originally for Malta tour? Katherine USA

    3. The coatdress would look great with a belt, but she couldn't wear a belt with it this time - she's 3 months pregnant with her second baby. It would draw attention to her stomach profile and would look funny as she is showing just a little bit already. With my pregnancies, belts were the last things I wanted to wear as your natural waist is such a different shape in pregnancy, even in the early stages.

I love her hair too :) a very stylish ponytail that works superbly with the hat.

    4. Katherine, I think it's *very* possible that the coat dress and gown were to be worn in Malta. The gown has Kate written all over it (the color and waistline detail), but the split and skirt does step it up a notch. Yes, I could see this being a gown for a solo tour. :) And I couldn't agree more on that particular black hat. Perfect choice.

leafyNZ, I understand what you're saying, but I don't think she is so far along that she couldn't have pulled off a belt. I can't see more than a hint of a tummy.

In reality, it could have been an intentional omission because she has worn many coat dresses without belts. Personally, I think if there is a seam at the waistline, a belt is appropriate.

  51. I certainly would not have chosen the other plaid - it's awful! I do think the coatdress could use a lining, some weights even with the skirt under it, and a better fitting. The dress you linked, Anon C, does look like the skirt, but the bodice would show at the top if she had worn it under the coatdress. The ponytail keeps Kate's hair from flying; she was doing her best to counteract the wind. But I'm not sure about it with the hat, which is very elegant. I don't see that her chest is red. She does look tired except when she smiles.

  52. This is all so exciting. The Duchess looked fabulous, as always. I loved the coatdress which she wore so well. Her hair swept back with this hat is always nice--shows her lovely features-- her face is starting to get fuller. It is a treat for royal watcher to have her return to being in public and I am happy that she is feeling well enough to do so.

Kate looks lovely! It's great to see her out and feeling better. Considering how sick she has been, I think she looks wonderful. I'm sure she was happy to be out of the house and back to work. I loved seeing both her and William participate in the State visit. Maybe next year we'll see them attend a banquet...maybe!

I like the coatdress...very Kate. The print was pretty and great for a fall day. The hat is one of my favorites and I LOVED her hair back. For a windy day in London, her hair being back worked great. So much better than blowing in her face. I thought her look for the morning engagement was perfect!

A favorite part of this post was seeing the Household Calvary preparing in the early morning hours. No one does pomp and pageantry like the Brits! Their attention to detail is exemplary and quite amazing. The times I have been privileged to see them escort HM and members of the family, I am in awe of their perfection. It is a sight to behold!

What a great day for Kate and for Royal watchers! The day seemed to go well and hopefully Kate is feeling well after easing herself back into doing engagements. Hopefully she's getting a great night's rest as I type. I'm in the middle of homework with kiddos and the dinner routine, so this was a nice break. Back to the grind! I'm looking forward to reading everyone's comments later tonight. Thanks for the post Charlotte! :)

  55. I really like this outfit! I think the coat is very pretty with the fuller skirt, and Kate looks adorable in it, if a bit pale and tired still. Hopefully she's over the worst of her illness and will be feeling better through the rest of her pregnancy!

  56. I'm not sure if my last comment went through...I was saying how well put together Catherine looks. She looks a little tired, but honestly I would wonder if she might be superhuman if she didn't look a little worn out. I'm sure she was dreading this engagement, but did a great job putting on a smile regardless. The Duchess is the consummate professional.

  57. I too was thrilled to see Catherine again! She did look tired but still beautiful as ever. My concern though is that she's hardly "showing" at all! I know that you don't have much of a bump at 12 weeks when pregnant with your first baby, but my second pregnancy showed very early! And, I was not a slender as the Duchess. What do you all think?

Not sure if my comment above went through - we're on holiday and for some reason, this site thinks I'm a machine! Horribly windy when we took off yesterday from Heathrow - so the ponytail was inspired and think Kate's coatdress looked elegant. Don't mind the Marilyn moment as long as something underneath.

She looked much rested in the evening and I loved the flash of leg. Her hair was perfect, the modern jewellery looked fabulous with that gown and and the children so happy to meet her. Lovely to see her back.

  60. It's wonderful to see the Duchess again. I can't even begin to imagine how she feels but I would imagine it would be taxing to attend 2 events in one day, especially after being out of commission for a few weeks. I'm sure this pregnancy is much more difficult with the HG and little Prince George at home who doesn't understand what is going on with mommy. Hopefully she'll be able to get the rest she needs and that she'll be feeling better soon!
