William, Kate and Harry Support the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry kicked off their two-day visit to Glasgow this afternoon to watch the fifth day of action at the Commonwealth Games.

The royals took a commercial flight from London earlier today following a busy weekend. The Cambridges attended the wedding of Prince William's friend from Eton Alexander Vaulkhard in Batcombe (sadly no high quality photos have emerged yet) while Prince Harry has been enjoying nights out at a popular London nightclub.

William and Kate, who are styled as The Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, and Prince Harry are all avid sports fans. The trio were ambassadors for the London 2012 games, which involved supporting and meeting athletes throughout the games. The Commonwealth Games are a very natural fit for the royals allowing them to mix their personal interests with their public roles.

They took in several events beginning with gymnastics.

The trio were in great spirits as they chatted during the games.

A nice shot of William and Kate.

The Royal Family have been actively supporting the games. Her Majesty attended the opening ceremony where she officially declared the games open. Other members in attendance include Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Earl and Countess of Wessex; Prince Edward is vice president of the Games.

The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event involving athletes from across the Commonwealth. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946, which were cancelled due to World War II, has taken place every four years since. The prestigious games are the third largest multi-sport event after the Olympics and Asian Games. In fact, the equivalent of Glasgow's population, almost 600,000, passed through the city's main train station over the weekend.

A look at Glasgow city centre; the games are an important boost to the city.

The games' mascot Clyde has one of the most important jobs; he's a friendly face who helps everyone to enjoy the events and proudly represents Scotland. As you can see his look, ahem... is based on the Scottish thistle. Below we see the green mascot with 107-year-old Margaret Melvin and enjoying a dance with a local choir.

If he looks familiar (he's not a character one would forget) it may be because the Duchess met Clyde last year when she and William toured the Emirates Arena, much to Kate's amusement. For those with kids, they might enjoy looking at Clyde's page on the games' official website; it includes games and art.

It's a sport with plenty of nail-biting moments.

The royals met with volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past week.

They made time not only to attend as many events as possible but to meet as many people as they could. Below we see them greeting the security team at the games.

Next up, it was time for some hockey. This is one we expect the Duchess particularly enjoyed as she's been a keen player since childhood.

Even the royals wear I.D. tags.

Kate was so warm inside William fanned her with her tag.

Moving on to what Kate wore today. I'm afraid fashion fans may be a little disappointed to see Kate repeated her go-to uniform; a navy blazer, skinny jeans and wedges. Kate wore this look throughout the London 2012 games and for various other sporting events and casual engagements since. It's obviously a look she feels very comfortable in and for someone who tends to put a lot of consideration into her clothing choices, it's a look that requires very little planning and preparation (yes, yes I do agree it would be great to see her change it up).

It appears Kate sported her navy military-style double-breasted blazer by Zara. The Duchess debuted the piece during the royal tour in April. Kate's skinny jeans are also by the popular high street brand. It must have been quite warm for Kate; one would imagine the outfit sans blazer would have been a better fit for the weather.

Zara

One noticeable addition to the signature look was a sleeveless blue and white shirt with a high collar. We'll update once it is definitively identified.

Kate's new clutch is the L.K. Bennett Frome Suede Clutch Bag (another splendid I.D. by My Small Obsessions. With thanks to one of our great commentors for sharing).

The love-em-or-hate-em Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon Wedges completed the look. The blue suede wedges are available in a large variety of sizes for $398 at Zappos with free shipping.

Kate's hair looked very glossy, healthy and vibrant today.

We'll see the royal trio at the games again tomorrow. There's an event for Kate's patronage, SportsAid, in Glasgow tomorrow (with thanks to @RoyalKateDebate); perhaps she'll attend that too?

  1. Not those damn wedges!

  2. I'm sorry, but this uniform of wedges, jeans, and a blazer, is starting to look lazy. I am the first one to say I love my blazers, but I at least have different colors or change up other items! Other royal members of the European countries do not wear the exact same outfit to sporting events. I wonder what Kate is thinking? It just seems so unimaginative.

I would be happy to help her shop. Better yet, I would go through her wardrobe, pull out some of those lovely outfits she used to wear to polo before she was married, and say, what's wrong with these.

Sophie is also casually dressed but looks much more put together.

  3. Her hair looks great, but those jeans are looking really worn. She must be one of those people who are never hot - mostly everyone else looks like they are wearing short sleeves - I would be dying in a long sleeved blouse and jacket! William needs to ditch the dad pants and update his casual wardrobe - those pants are seriously a fashion nightmare. Love your blog, BTW :)

  4. Fabulous job Charlotte!!!

First of all, I was so looking forward to seeing William, Kate, and Harry today and seeing what casual chic ensembles they would wear. That's what makes all of this infinitely more disappointing! I am sick and tired of seeing Kate wearing the same blazer, wedges, and skinny jeans combo as I'm positive most others are. If she switched up the color of the skinny jeans or wore another vibrant blazer I don't think I'd have as much a problem with it, but she doesn't. I understand royals might be busy behind the scenes and that a lot of thought goes into what Kate wears and who designs those pieces, but the idea that it is all so exhausting and stressful that she has to wear the same outfit over and over again is absolutely ridiculous! I get that she doesn't want to be known as a clothes horse, but wearing new fashions in a smarter way won't make her one. Yes, people focus on her clothes, instead of complaining about it, why doesn't she own it, use it to her advantage instead of wearing the same boring uniform and drawing even more criticism to herself.

    1. Anon 15:53 - Totally agree with you! Also, when she wears something new by a British designer she is boosting that persons business, which everyone can use in this day and age. Not sure why she sees this as something she obviously does not want to do.

    2. See above reply. Its too funny that she wore the exact outfit so many did not want to see her wear. LOL!!

    3. Assuming you're right, Anonymous 22:37, and she reads this blog and wore what she wore because some people were hoping she wouldn't, that doesn't say much for her IMO. She can't stand criticism so she'll do the opposite out of spite? Just the kind of trait that a future Queen needs, right? What happens when it's something a whole lot more important than a tired pair of jeans and wedges?

Instead of telling us why Kate should be doing what she's doing and backing up your reasoning, it appears you'd much rather take back handed swipes at some of the blog's readers and commenters. Not to mention outing yourself as a spiteful person (you did say you'd wear the same clothes out of spite, did you not?).

I can make an argument as to why she wore what she did if it will help you. Maybe when she wore it to a sporting event one time it brought someone luck. Maybe she was really busy with George this morning and didn't have time to put something different together. Maybe William loves those pants and shoes on her so as they were going together, she wore them for him. And I could actually buy those arguments too (well, except for the busy with George one; she's got a wardrobe advisor who could help her there).

    5. @Bluehare. Re: your comment that Catherine has a wardrobe advisor. Do you know this for a fact? Are you personal friends with William and Catherine? Unless you have facts to back up that statement, I don't believe I would comment on their household. As for being spiteful, it was meant as a joke, to be funny, instead of seriously complaining about Catherine's outfits. Sorry you took it that way.

  5. Oh dear! Why? Those jeans look very scruffy now, the blazer would look so nice with tailored trousers and pumps. The skinny effect of the jeans look odd with the clumsiness of the shoes. I'm staring to think kate isn't really interested in clothes. Her hair looks luvly and skin glowing. I thought it odd she had a clutch bag with this casual outfit, sometimes she doesn't carry a bag with her formal clothes for engagements. Do u wonder if it was to hide a 'baby bump?' Along with the blazer? I don't think so but there is so much speculation in the press right now! Polly. London

Catherine looks lovely and if she is comfortable in Jeans; blazer and wedges--then good for her.
Her outfit looks just a tad smarter than most of the people around and it should be remembered that when she left London this morning, it was probably bucketing down.
Anyone expecting her to be at the cutting edge of fashion is living in cloud cuckoo land--she goes for classic things and at this sort of occasion, comfort.

    2. I will give you that she looks lovely for the fact that her hair is stunning and she has a beautiful smile on her face, but other than that her outfit looks old and tired. I understand comfort both for a sporting event and traveling, but I have a problem when comfort means the same boring outfit and 4.5" wedges. I wouldn't mind the blazer, jeans, and wedges combo as much if she would shake it up with some new colors and accessories, instead it's as if she couldn't be bothered. I'm not asking her to wear the latest haute couture, I'm asking her to wear smart, colorful, fresh styles instead of those god-awful skinny jeans that are worn out and actually make her look bulky on top when paired with that blazer. She could have the most adorable casual fashion that shows other women and mothers that even though they are busy and tired they can look cute too (just look at other royals like Princess Mary of Denmark). Instead she doesn't, and it is disappointing time and time again. No more excuses, she needs to step it up and I don't think that is too much to ask!

Nobody in the royal family dares to go out like this. Blue27

I would be appalled if my friends came up to me and said my clothes look too worn out to keep wearing. So what if she's got money to buy thousands of clothing items. We all say that we love how normal and 'like us' she is. But then we complain when she does exactly that because she's not wowing us. 3. Hi Carrie,

Of course we all have favorite jeans that we wear over and over, but I don't believe any of us are representing a country when we attend a sporting event. And I would hope that if my pants were looking old and tired that someone would say something to me. If so, I would continue to wear them around the house or out running errands but certainly not to an event where every lens was trained in my direction.

I like to see Kate dressing casually, she usually puts together some great outfits, but jeans that are faded and baggy really aren't professional looking.

      Delete
    4. That's exactly my point. If you say a thousand lenses are facing her and she's representing a country, then you should never complain that she's not normal. That's what confuses me. That we all want her to be normal but then we get mad when she does.

She has other pants. She just likes these and wears them often. I value your opinion if you say YOU PERSONALLY wouldn't keep wearing them. But to criticize SOMEONE ELSE for doing it is rude. You truly are the first person I know who would love their friends to criticize their attire. I would just tell my friends "then its a good thing you don't own it".

With that said, I would personally choose different pants. But kate is a human being more than she is a royal. And if that's her go to item, I'm glad shes comfy.

I just love seeing them together, either W&K on their own, or with Harry. Thank you so much for the quick post. Perhaps she and William are spending their money on refurbishments to Anmer Hall instead of new jeans. Quite a responsible decision in my view.

    1. Hi ya fellow Canadian!
I agree. The most important thing is the support they give to the event. Really, what she wears is not important. Many of us like to look at the eye candy but just because Kate doesn't supply us with something new to satisfy our fashion cravings doesn't mean she has done anything wrong. If she is comfy and looks good and appropriate (which she does) then she is doing things right. The boys are wearing the exact same thing they always wear. No one seems to be bothered by that or saying they are failing as royals because of their sartorial choices.

    2. Hello everybody!

Sarah, I so agree with you.

For those who think that Catherine, William and Harry’s outfits looked like “just the usual repeat of their casual outfits for watching sports”, how about a look at the colours they wore for the Commonwealth Games today?

darker blue: Most importantly, it is one of the colours of the Commonwealth flag [tip of the hat to all the countries participating ?]. It is also one of the colours of the UNION(!) Jack, of course. – Is there a referendum taking place somewhere in the near future ?? :)
white: Again, one of the colours of the Union Jack, and also of the flags of England, Wales AND Scotland (How wonderful is that ?!)
      shades of lighter blue: Scotland
And: No English red at all

With the lighter blue and white colours of the Scottish flag, I suppose that the stripes on Catherine’s blouse were no coincidence. This is one of the most clever displays of sartorial diplomacy I have ever seen in Harry, Catherine and William. Very open, for everyone to see, yet subtle.

In this time of crisis, austerity etc., I am also very happy every time royals rewear clothes, as Queen Letizia recently did in Santiago de Compostela and as Catherine, William and Harry did today. Rose

    3. Well said Sarah from Calif: I am happy that they are supporting these games. The games have athletes from very poor countries that are a part of the Commonwealth and it means the world to them to be able to first compete, travel to a foreign country, meet other athletes and have members of the royal family in the audience supporting them. I like that the Duchess has found an outfit that works at these events. If she continues to wear it to all such events so be it. As for the wedge, I like it.

Glad to see Kate look well and happy and nice to see the couple. It's marvelous that they're supporting the games but oh, those slovenly jeans. It's like Kate's forgotten she's a princess and remembered she's the daughter of a flight attendant who needs to wear a uniform. And her knees just get saggier with every appearance.

She wore such wonderful casual clothes before she was married. Now, she just looks lazy, like she can't be troubled. Certainly not a look that will make anyone think she is regal or take her seriously. She looks like she was bathing Lupo and William yelled at her to hurry up, then, they were going to be late and she threw a blazer one.

In fairness to Kate, William and Harry don't look much better. What is it with the young British royals! It's almost disrespectful to their position, although I admit I'm from a different generation and believe you don't need to look fancy but you should look put together when you step out on an occasion.

This will do a lot judging from these pictures, to encourage pregnancy rumours. Clutching her hands that way. If she is, there are better ways of hiding it. If not, I would suggest a shoulder strap bag.

Wonderful that the games are going so well and so many are attending. Lovely for Glasgow.

I like the wedge shoes but am feeling that they are so inappropriate for a sporting event, some nice flats would have been better. And why carry a suede clutch? It seemed so out of place for these events and the suede fabric seems much more of a winter fabric. A fun straw clutch would have been a much better fit. The only saving grace was that she didn't wear that stripped shirt again. Maybe tomorrow will be better:)

Precisely. And I wouldn't fault her for wearing similar pieces either. But maybe a red blazer, or green? And change it up. Have like 5 blazers, 3 jeans, 2 smart trousers and 3 pairs of shoes to rotate and pair to your casual and sporty events. That would make alot of difference. Add to that jewellry, scarves etc and she could wear similar clothes for a long while! I for one are one of those who finds a piece or a style and sticks with it a long while. Usually buying the same piece in different colours. So I can't fault her for having a favorite style. But maybe change it up a bit.

    1. You make a good point. Also - it keeps the attention on the event - in this case it's the athletes - and the front page of the paper tomorrow won't be Kate in the same blue outfit again. I loved Princess Diana but her clothing choices were so amazing they did tend to steal the spotlight; maybe Kate is avoiding that. Kate always looks appropriate though - made up, jewelry etc. just not "fashionista".

  21. Like many, I don't mind the overall look, but I wish she'd change it up. She has blazers and jackets in colors other than navy and black. I was expecting this exact look, but hoping for just the jeans and a shirt, no blazer. She would still look cute and casual with just the high-collared shirt, skinny jeans, maybe a thin belt and yes, even the wedges. Wouldn't it have been great if she went out on a limb and wore a brightly colored shirt?

Anonymous 19:20 Kate can dress to suit herself when she's not working doing an official engagement. The rest of the working world does not dress to suit themselves when going to work. All work places have an implied or documented dress code. In America, conscientious employees also note how respected managers and executives dress and follow their example. For these reasons, imo this outfit is not appropriate for representing HM at this event. The jeggings are too faded, sagging at the knees and waaaay too tight.

To be clear, I am not suggesting Kate should wear ensembles that are as formal as what HM would have worn to be a spectator today.

Oh no.... ;-))) We all (or at least most of us) "feared" it -THIS outfit AGAIN..... Well, I love jeans and a blazer (I wear flat shoes or elegant high heels with it, though), but I have to agree, the jeans look worn out, and those wedges - sorry, I can´t stand them with jeans that end above the ankle.... It makes you look like you´re grown out of them...

Those jeans are perfectly ok for a walk round Kensington Gardens or to the next shop, but not for an official visit to the Commonwealth Games - that goes for Prince William´s trousers as well, by the way!! I know it was the official opening and that calls for more formal clothing, but look at HM in that sparkling outfit - wow!! I mean, she is nearly 90 by now and she looked.... well, like a Queen I dare say....and that´s how it should be!

@carrie b: I would be appalled if my friends did NOT tell me that my clothes look too worn out!! ;-)))) And there´s a difference between wearing a completely new outfit every time I walk out of the door and wearing the same outfit again NEARLY EVERY TIME I go out for a more informal engagement!
I used to work in sales for quite a long time and, believe me, even if there was a half-year gap between two visits to the same customer, I wouldn´t dare to wear the same outfit! You can wear the same trousers, but then with a different blazer - or vice versa. You wear a different blouse with a distinctively different colour - anything, but not the identical outfit. And that was me, with a good salary, but certainly NOT being a Duchess and certainly NOT with the whole world watching me - just my customer. And still, I did it just to show him respect, that I make an effort - and I can assure you it was noticed AND appreciated. Thanks to high street shops my amount spent on clothing was quite low, it was just the question of how you combine things.
As I was representing the company I was working for the Duchess is representing the Royal Family and Britain, so I do think even "casual" events require some kind of "stylish" clothing.....Besides, in my humble opinion, a polo match on a Sunday afternoon may be seen as a "casual" or "private" event - but not the Commonwealth Games.....

    1. Then you my friend obviously care about clothes waaaay more than the duchess does.

And I'm sure if you stood face to face with kate and told her those pants are crap, she would throw them out that instant and invite you to go shopping.

    2. Eve from Germany29 July 2014 at 08:41

@carrie b: Actually, I don´t care much about clothes. My usual outfit AT HOME is a pair of old leggings plus an old blouse. I don´t change that when I pop down to the shop, either. If I went to the Commonwealth Games, though, representing Britain and the Royal Family, I would "dress up" - in order to show some respect. I know that people care what I wear, that it boosts business, that they love seeing me in some nice outfit - so I show them some respect. With that same respect in mind I would certainly NEVER tell the Duchess that her pants are CRAP - I would show her the possible "consequences" if her look seems to be negligent (considering her role - which she chose fully aware of what it means), I would point out that different shoes would look even better on her - if she chose to wear that outfit just the same, fine with me.

It´s all about respect and being aware of who you are and what the respective situation requires......

  25. Sorry, but she needs a complete makeover. From head (hair) to toe. She's young and lovely, but her style has become boring. No need to update us on what she's wearing. We've seen it over and over and over. I think we know everything about her clothes because her style doesn't change.
The other European royals are much more stylish. Princess Mary of Denmark always looks fabulous. Maybe Catherine could get some pointers from her.

  26. I may be in the minority, but I like this look. There is nothing tired or old about a classic navy blazer. I think Kate does sharp casual quite well.

  27. I'm wondering if this "uniform" helps her feel a bit invisible at an event like this. I was just relieved she was wearing a cute blouse underneath instead of a striped t-shirt.

  28. I knew it, I dreaded it, I was right - Kate has only one outfit for sport/Olympic events - too skinny blue jeans, blouse, blue blazer, blue wedges.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have no clue why Kate keeps wearing those jeans!! They are like others have said on here way past their prime. Like seriously you can see the wear on them now in photos. Please please throw them away. She has other jeans. Why not wear them. The pink skinny jeans she wore were very cute.. Or the beautiful blue Zara skinny jeans she wore to BP during the start of the Olympics. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I strongly feel like Kate had a stylist when she was newly married and whoever that was she needs to hire them back. Now she's just in a style rut and not sure where her style should fall.

I agree, Kate seems to be at a fashion crossroads and instead of picking a road to follow she's just seems stuck.

      Delete
    2. Yes Lauri, stuck indeed.
She should just hire a stylist. No one has to even know about it. I'm almost positive she had one when she was a newlywed. Her style was always so flawless and put together at all times. Now it looks in my opinion very old fashioned and dated. It's just frustrating to see. She made basically every best dressed list at the top spot, now she barely makes it at all. I think now we're starting to see her real style come out, and it's not very fashionable at all. She's stuck at this crossroads of not wanting to let go of her youthful pre baby clothes or dressing more matronly. She's only 32 she can still look fashionable and age appropriate without those horrid worn out jeans. The wedges I've always loved. I bought a pair myself, but damn even I know when it's time to throw away or stop wearing a pair of worn out jeans out of the house.

  30. Remember those red skinny jeans she wore to play field hockey a couple of years ago? THOSE would have been fun today, but alas...

  34. Like many, I have tired of this outfit, however, I disagree with the cause. IMO, Kate has a rather limited clothing budget, in comparison to the Queen, Camilla, or even of late, Sophie. (Sophie, too, went through years of not-enough-money, and it showed in her wardrobe, especially when she went overseas to attend other royal weddings. Until quite recently, my impression of Sophie, at such occasions, was that she looked like the poor cousin. And, unlike Diana, both Sophie and Kate were not independently wealthy. (Diana inherited $$$ from, if memory serves, an American relative, and from at least one grandmother. Later, her father chose to set up a 5m.Brit trust fund for her, altho she asked that instead, he put the trust fund in Harrys name, which her father did.) Neither Sophie nor Kate have those resources, nor are either married to the POW, with greater access to his fortune. Take a look at the wardrobes of William and Harry. Pathetic. My guess is that the younger generation are being starved of cash, nor are William and Harry willing to spend their inheritance on clothing.

    1. Charles pays for Kate's work wardrobe last I heard. And some of that is billed to the government.

      Delete
    2. While Kate wasn't wealthy on her own, her parents are quite well off and we saw her is lots of different outfits before her marriage. I remember one occasion, just before the Olympics, when she wore a $75,000 Cartier necklace. Now she is sporting a $6000 watch and other such pricey jewelry so I don't think money is the issue. But I do agree that W&K plus Harry could benefit from some new pants.

    3. Amen Lauri from Ca! Amen!

    4. When William turned 30 in 2012, he inherited half of Diana's residuary estate. His share was valued at around $16 million then. Harry, subsequently, will turn 30 in September and inherit his half of his mother's residuary estate, valued at around $17 million US.
In 2012, when the Palace accounts were released, it was revealed that Charles had paid around $56,000 for Kate's wardrobe in the year following the wedding. That money comes from Charles's household account which is funded by the hugely profitable Duchy of Cornwall.
William's and Harry's expenses are largely paid for by their father as well, again funded by the Duchy of Cornwall.
Kate has a fantastic, expensive and beautiful wardrobe, many of her ensembles are custom-made for her, the bespoke pieces. I don't blame her a bit for choosing to "shop her closet," although points made that she dressed better casually before the engagement and wedding are valid ones.

  35. Not surprised to see her in this look! It's a look that works for her and seems appropriate for the event.

  37. It's not just that this is her 'signature look' or 'go-to casual look', but the very same items of clothing she's worn again & again. We all do that in our private lives, but this is her 'work life'. And those jeans look so worn out anymore; I think they're best suited to house-cleaning or preparing PGTip's brekkie or something along those lines. And, oh dear, that close-up photo of her face in the sun--are we seeing the effects of Botox and/or cheek-fillers? She doesn't need either.

  39. Three people who need to respect others, if not themselves, in their choice of dress. I always remember the Queen Mum when dressed in her furs and pearls visiting the East End saying "if they came to see me, they'd dress their best, and I'll respect them in their homes by doing the same" (or something to that effect). DoC jeans are looking too worn, the extreme heels in a stadium where just getting to her seat could have been a deathly slip, no sport jackets (hot or not) on the men. Horrid. Being royal is part of their job descriptions, and dressing a bit better and more formally than others is part of it as well.

For the monarchy's future to be secure one of the most important things that Harry, William and Kate can do is connect with young people so I decided to show the 20somethings in our family & their friends the photos of them at the Commonwealth Games. They thought Kate looked cool, really liked her hair and outfit especially the jeans - what their generation would wear & 'not dressing like an old person'. They also liked that they were really engaged with the sports action and not just there because they had to be. When I showed them the photos of Sophie there was immediate disengagement - no interest whatsoever.

The Twitter feeds also indicate the royal trio were a hit with people they met. So despite what some people here think - they're doing OK

  43. I don't mind the look but the 4" wedges with the above-the-ankle jeans drive me nuts!! I understand why she embraces 4" heels - when you look at the photos of them - and the photos today really show this - you see that Kate is a lot shorter than William. So that extra lift is needed.
It just messes with my sense of proportion somehow and I've never been a fan of the skinnies and really high heels look, even if the heels are $400 wedges.
I'm not sure how else she could have dressed, with the sporting event and everyone else dressed very casually. She wasn't presenting any awards or anything so this look was pretty much spot on. I understand it's been hot across the UK and with the heat of an arena, I'm sure the sleeveless blouse was out of necessity. She's got great upper arms, she ought to go sleeveless more often.
Have to agree with MusingLen, it would be great if she just wore the skinnies, a shirt and, well, OK, the wedges, without the blazer.
Definitely looks like she's had a session or two at the spray tan place.

  57. I love the pictures of Will and Kate, they look so happy. There was even
some PDA. That should trump whatever you think about her clothes.
Contrast Will and Kate with Charles and Diana after 3 years of marriage.
What a difference. Seeing them be so at ease and enjoying being
together is far more important than being the best dressed Royals in
the world. I bet Prince George would agree.

  58. I could care less about what W,K and H are wearing. Based on tweets, they seem to have as usual charmed the socks of everyone they met at the events they went to and gave a boost to a lot of people involved in the Commonwealth Games. I was actually really not looking forward to the clothes, but more on William and Kate's interactions and they did not disappoint. They actually made frontpage news, not because of what they're wearing but because of their facial expressions while watching the games which showed two very involved spectators, showed how exciting the Games were too.

  59. I do have to agree that this may not be her best look fashion wise. I also agree with a few posters who stated that she may be trying to keep the focus on the event and not on herself and to keep photographers at bay, but I really don't think she is trying to "annoy" anyone on purpose. Whatever her reasons for wearing her "uniform" it appears to be working for William. Some of the photos coming out of Glasgow speaks tons for their relationship. A confident happy George is also a testament to their relationship. How neat to see their loving interaction above all else!!

    2. Eva B. - 00:55- I like YOUR style-which, by the way, as you obviously know, encompasses more than clothing and fashion. It includes the way one lives his life, what is seen as important.

  60. Kate's hair was beautiful today and her eye liner was very natural looking. I can't fault her on either of those things. I really did laugh when I saw what Kate was wearing. You ladies really know Kate's style so well. It's almost scary! LOL

Before marriage, Kate seemed to be much more adventurous with fashion. I'm beginning to think it's a concerted effort to avoid criticism for being an extravagant clothes horse. Something has happened and I don't know if it's intentional or just laziness.

  61. Oh for the love of God, will someone PLEASE break into the Duchess's closet and burn that outfit? I officially hate it. Hate it!

  63. She always looks so relaxed and confident, and she has a good time. I could forgive her everything but the blasted shoes. I have hated those wedges since the first time she wore them, and I hate them now more than ever. I don't mind the repeated outfit except for the darned wedges. There is a special place in hell reserved for whoever is responsible for the design. Hate hate hate the shoes.

Wow I thought I was getting tired
of that outfit--maybe we should send her a copy of this blog! HA!

  64. Oh dear god, please retire this outfit already!

At least change up the colors, please. We know she has a different colored pair of jeans and a different colored blazers from before her wedding. Why not wear a pair of white skinny jeans, white sleeveless and a tan-colored or light blue colored or even light green colored blazer from her pre-wedding/college days with a pair of cute flats? Mix it up a little.

If she wears navy blue tomorrow, I'm going to scream.

  65. If I wasn't sure that the Duchess is oblivious to all of this nonsense, I could imagine her laughing at how she messes with your minds.

  69. HRH is beautiful, but...she's representing her country, not her personal taste or comfort. The sleeve of her blazer is snagged, her (inappropriate) clutch is looking a bit worn, and her jeans are simply worn through. She has plenty of lovely clothes which are appropriate from her courting days as well as more recently, as so many have pointed out, and could have worn an combination thereof without extravagance. Britain deserves better, at Games which showcase the Best of Britain.

  70. I own this blazer and have been unhappy with how it easily snags. So of course I noticed that the Duchess's blazer has a snag on the end of her left sleeve. I'm glad it's not just me...

  71. While I don't necessarily swallow the "everything is perfect always" Palace or royalist version of Will and Kate's relationship, since those of us who followed Charles and Diana know how epically wrong that can be, I do find it refreshing that they will hold hands in public.
Kate's animation is at events is a refreshing change from the stonefaced royals. That is one of the reasons I think it would be great if she would increase her workload.
If sports and fitness are the things that she enjoys, then she could take up more sports and fitness-oriented charities and really get involved, emphasize fitness and diet and health.
And as someone noted in the last post, she seems to be pretty agreeable to being photographed. There are a couple of the photos from today where she is making direct eye contact with the photographer. Could she have just been looking that way? Mmm, sure but the eye contact is noticeable and I would expect there's a defined place for the media and photographers to be at the Games, so the celebs there and the royals know where the cameras are.
Great photos. I think the best thing we can hope for is that the affection shown in public is also shown in private.
Also, kudos to the Countess of Wessex for her look today. Very chic, sporty and appropriate.

  72. We can certainly argue the relevance of style and fashion in contract to all the really important things happening in life, .... and on the planet. But I don't want to. I started visiting Charlotte's blog because I was intrigued and inspired by Kate's style which was simplistic and sophisticated no matter when, no matter what. For me, this style has disappeared into thin air almost completely. I don't want to speculate why, it just has. Although the royal tour had it's highs.
I think many of us are so disappointed because Kate was celebrated a style icon not too long ago and her outfits were
stunning and unique and irresistible and a breath of fresh air. It's just a little sad to see them replaced by bland or poorly coordinated outfits.

However, Kate looks really beautiful and happy. And her hair is absolutely gorgeous. Great cut.

    1. I totally agree ANNA, I don´t either know nor remember when or why I exactly started keeping my eyes on her. I reckon it could have been her British style, so different. And all of a sudden I found out this blog and I noticed I wasn´t nuts, plenty of women of all ages were here talking about her clothes.
      But I don´t know what´s happening, but I´m loosing my attention...what a pity!!

  73. It was such a delight to see the trio together at a casual event like we witnessed at the Olympics. I so enjoy their obvious enjoyment of the games and being in the company of each other. Knowing that all three are witty people, they must have so much fun together. One hopes that Harry will find his true love who will fit into this already joyous trio. Showing endearments such as hand on her knee and holding hands I would love to see more of since there is nothing wrong with these subtle public displays of affection even if you are royalty.

Personally I do like guys (men) in tighter fitting casual pants/jeans but the style is apparently for looser. Harry and William looked handsome (hot if that is okay to say :) ) as they always do in casual settings.

I am in the extreme minority but I have no problems with Kate wearing the same outfit numerous times. She apparently feels quite comfortable and I respect Kate for whatever her reasons might be. My only criticisms are: 1. the blazer looked warm (heavy) 2. tall wedges (and I do like hers) do not appear to go well with short skinnies (above ankles) unless this is the popular style. As usual Kate was stunningly beautiful and appeared to so enjoy as she always does attending sport events.

  74. It seems that the Duchess of Cambridge has a uniform of sorts, but I don’t really mind this. Maybe it gives her a sense of strength. When the Duchess wears her uniforms (dress and/or coat for formal occasions, jeans, wedges and blazer for casual occasions) Catherine is in work mode. When she is enjoying herself in her private time, her clothing choices are her “Kate wardrobe.”

We have heard that she prefers to be called Catherine, but we have also heard Wills and Harry refer to her as Kate. She is one in public, and another in private – can’t this notion be extended to her clothing choices?

In this case, The young royals attended the games because they are a part of the family that lead the Commonwealth, but they did not attend in a formal capacity. They were not there to unveil a plaque or give a speech. They were there to enjoy the Commonwealth Games. I think the Duchess has reflected this by opting for her trusty casual uniform. Yes, a few minor changes could have been made, but then, wouldn’t we all be talking about that instead of the sporting triumphs?

  75. I was thinking as I was driving around Melbourne earlier today - how would I feel and what would I do if I was a famous person, possibly like Kate and the papers and Internet were full of pictures, "stories" and commentary about me, my family, my looks, what I do or don't do blah blah blah .....
Would I be able to be secure enough in my own self to resist the temptation to read it all?
Would I have some "go to" newspapers and websites to monitor my impact and adjust accordingly when appropriate?
Or would I trust my staff to let me know what I needed to know and totally time out of the rest?
I found it quite hard to answer bit being honest I think initially at least I would find the temptation to
Google myself irresistible but I suspect after a while I would become a little hurt and maybe disillusioned with it all. Gosh it would be hard though.
I was wondering what my fellow posters would do if they found themselves famous - how would you handle it, what would you do? What would be your coping strategies?
    Thanks Simone
