Kate and George Photographed on Holiday!

Hello! Magazine has secured exclusive photos of The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George as they head to the Caribbean island of Mustique. On the cover of this week's edition (yes, we will all be rushing out to purchase one) we see photos of Kate stepping off the plane with six-month-old George in her arms.

Hello! Magazine

Kate and George joined the Middleton family on their annual holiday, which coincides with Carole Middleton's birthday, making it George's first overseas trip. It is certainly a wise idea to take a 'practice run' before the Prince travels with his parents to Australia in April. Hello! reports they were accompanied by royal bodyguards on a scheduled flight to the Caribbean, during which George was very well behaved. Prince William normally makes the trip, but didn't this year due to commitments at Cambridge University where he is undertaking a ten-week course.

The Middleton family are regular visitors to Mustique. The breathtaking Island was first put on the map in the 1960s when it's owner Lord Glenconner, gave Princess Margaret a ten-acre plot of land as a wedding present.

The family normally stay in a five-bedroom rented cliff top villa with its own infinity pool. The Middletons reportedly stayed at Aurora House in previous years, owned by royal wedding guest, hedge fund manager Mark Cecil. How much does it cost to stay on the Island? £19,000 per week.

Aurora House

A villa on the island owned by Tommy Hilfiger.

A look at the main shopping street on the island. I must admit, I do love the colour scheme, it rather reminds one of dolls houses.

William and Kate often popped into Basil's Bar in Mustique on recent trips. The bar's owner Basil Charles was a guest at the couple's wedding in 2011. The bar is known for excellent cocktails, a delicious seafood and the annual Blues Festival, which is currently underway. No doubt the Middleton family and Kate will enjoy one of the famous nights of music.

Basil's Bar

Kate looked relaxed and casual in her Ralph Lauren 'Tori' Breton Striped Tee. Crafted from soft, striped cotton, the long sleeve boatneck tee combines casual comfort with nautical appeal. Kate's top is sold out but there are a selection of similar items available.

It appears the Duchess is also wearing her J Brand Skinny Jeans. The navy luxe twill jeans feature faux front pockets and patch back pockets. They're 98% cotton and 2% lycra. They've been a staple in Kate's wardrobe over the past couple of years and we've seen her wearing them on numerous occasions. The $169 jeans are available at J Brand.

Kate accessorised with sunglasses.

Little George is certainly getting big, isn't he? And he looked incredibly cute in a white outfit with white and blue hat. I'll be popping out to purchase Hello! and will update if there is any new information.

What a lovely picture ! So cute, the little striped hat.
The Duchess seems so happy. That holiday seems really fab. She is lucky !

What do you all think of the article in the Daily Mail, where they say she will be more regal than ever in Australia, with tiaras and longer hems :-) Do you think the Queen's dresser is really advising her to avoid the Marylin moments ? We've been talking about that on this blog !!!

  6. Another accessory, the ubiquitous one of moms, a pacifier appears to be twined around Kate's fingers! Prince George seems very interested in the ground, or his feet! I love the pictures of Mustique.

Wow what a surprise to see Kate & George. He look's very healthy and Kate is looking good too. Just wish William was with his family. I wonder what Will is thinking about seeing his beautiful family in the Hello. Knowing how protective he is of is family he might been upset that the photos have been published, Only time will tell if they are removed from the internet.

  10. Loving George's outfit, so cute! Even made my hubby go 'aaww'! Mum and baby coordinated in shades of blue! It's lovely seeing Kate in the important role of 'Mum'. Ah it makes me look forward to one day having a family of my own. Does Kate give her permission for these photos to be published? It's lovely to see the photos but it's sad to think her privacy might be spoilt.

I doubt it very much that Kate afreed to have them posted. We know how William feels about having photos taken of his family and about their privacy.

    2. The agency that sold to the pics to Hello said they asked the Palace permission to publish the pictures. and the Palace granted them permission with caveat to wait until Kate was back from her holiday. The Palace doesn't act without permission of the royals. therefore William and Kate gave approval.

ps;- google The Telegraph, the Guardian, The Express and The Independent. 3 broadsheet papers and one tabloid. all saying the same thing.

  11. I have to confess I am really suprised to see a UK magazine with these pictures. I personally find it quite invasive, I am however suprised that these are the first snaps of George which haven't been carefully controlled or restricted, it must be hard to protect him without keeping him within the walls of Kensington Palace!

Kate and George are on a private family holiday and I suspect we won't see pictures from the beach as in earlier years as George will be staying in the Villa away from prying camera lenses.

I personally agree with William and Kate protecting George from the Media gaze as much as possible, his after all a little boy who deserves a chance to live as normal life as possible without the camera following him everywhere. His time to be the spot light will arrive in the future, he will be subject to media and public intrusion throughout his life through no choice of his own, even though I too wonder how he has grown and changed since we last saw him!

I suspect William will be mad at this pictures! I wondered if the telegraph picture was pulled so not indicate that william was staying in Cambridge, as he is unlikely to commute when there is no-one to go home too, which would have led the public to discovering Kate and Georges holiday sooner.

I do however wish that William and Kate would take the heat out of the chase for George's pictures, by occasionally releasing their own family snaps etc, if the market had occasional images then these pictures would be worth less.

I wish the palace had confirmed the length of Kate's Maternity Leave and not given her any engagements during that period as then it would take the heat out of the debate as to why she isn't working or should be doing more etc.

I personally am looking forward to the tour, I can't wait to see what charities and sectors they choose to support whilst there and I am looking forward to the clothing choices too! I am betting a hospice visit will be in there as well as some events for children!

Equally I would like to see William and Kate start to embrace their role within the royal family rather than fight it. They have been given a lot more time to enjoy as a couple and a family, without performing significant duties, than many other members of the family and I would like to see them publiscise some of the behind the scenes stuff they do, so that the public can appreciate in the UK what they are doing when they are no out and about being visible. I feel this would go a long way in improving their image at the moment.

I also believe that with a young family Kate will prob only work part time for a quite a while yet, like many women I suspect she is trying to balance raising a family with work and whilst she may be able to afford a full time nanny/childcare it is obvious that William and Kate want to raise George themselves and at some point there may be a sibling or 2 for George!

Hello magazine does not publish paparazzi pictures. These pictures were contracted out. What is likely happened is that the Middletons and Kate agreed for Hello to take these pictures from a relatively close distance, in exchange for privacy for the rest of the trip.

Unless there was explicit agreement that the Middletons support this they would NOT have been published in Hello.

That said, that is one huge (tall) 6 month old and by all indications - one heck of a cute one ! I look forward to seeing clearer pictures soon.

    2. I think the whole maternity leave issue was intended to take the pressure off of Kate, but it backfired. For most people, maternity leave means not working at all until you resume a normal schedule, but the royal definition of it may be slightly different. Perhaps they intended to give Kate breathing room and see how she felt after George was born (physically & mentally), while allowing her the option of doing engagements here and there if she felt up to it. But once again, maybe less is more as far as explanations go. Lol.

    3. Two points

Hello magazine DO publish pap pictures
There is no way that Catherine and the Middletons agreed to these pictures. Why on earth would they agree to that? Just doesnt make sense

These pictures were taken in a public place and that limits any opportunity to take action and the palace knows that. Pictures which invade privacy or cause harassment are different.

    4. Pauline Oak Hills4 February 2014 01:23

I disagree with you. There is no way that Kate would agree to let anyone take photos of George. This photos were taken in a public place and were taken by the paparazzi. And I am sure William is not a very happy camper that photos were released of his wife & baby.
And the Middletons would not have agreed to have them taken either.

      CP England and Pauline,

I normally don't go out of my way to convince people or sway their opinions. But I MUST impress upon you how management of media works. The Middletons most definitely had a deal with the magazine. It is evident because the pictures have been released AFTER the entire group is back on British soil. Meaning that the pictures were taken days ago, nothing was leaked to the press and are now being released, as part of the deal. Dailymail has now bought those pictures - meaning that there is no embargo from the palace on these pictures. The British press would not have released these pictures enmasse unless there was tacit support from the palace.

I understand that it is hard to believe because you love Kate so. You may choose not to believe me, but I speak from experience and have seen up front and very close how PR works, especially for the rich and famous. And I know what I see here.

This is part of a deal.

      Delete
    6. I think they are pap photos because they're not very clear and it's obvious that they were taken at a distance. It looks like Kate took it in her stride, but I don't see the Middleton's agreeing to anything. Kate is the public figure so it would be her (and William's) place to make a deal. And can you imagine the backlash if the Middleton's were to make a deal with the media on behalf of Kate and George? Yikes. I just don't see it happening.

This is how it's done, and probably should be done. You get the details but AFTER the trip is over.
If this is not a deal with the media I don't know what is.

    8. Pauline Oak Hills4 February 2014 16:24

@Portia I just wonder how you know for sure that the Middletons had an agreement to take and release these photos. Do you have some inside information and seen a signed document. I d ont believe in a million years that the Middletons had or ever will have an agreement with any media outlit to take and post any photos of Kate & baby George.
You might work in PR and know alot but I think you are incorrect on this one.

    9. Portia from Chicago4 February 2014 16:27

Well royalfan, you make a good point. Let me rephrase that.
This is a deal struck between the Cambridges and the media. But it *is* a deal.

      Delete
    10. Portia from Chicago4 February 2014 17:13

Well, Pauline I am only drawing logical conclusions based on the actions of the Palace.
How do you explain that there was an explicit twit today that Kate "will not take action" against these pictures ?
How do you explain this apparent selectivity?
I am willing to be swayed but you must present a well-reasoned argument in order to sway my opinion.

    11. bluhare in Washington State4 February 2014 19:37

Portia's position is bolstered, imo, because Kate/Palace will not be taking action on the photos. And celebrities pose for photos all the time in exchange for privacy afterwards. Charles and Diana did it as well.

It is interesting that a paparazzo just happened to be within viewing distance of a flight, where none of the passengers names were public knowledge.

    13. Portia, I believe you're correct about it being a deal between the Cambridges and the media, especially given the point you made about them being released after the fact.

It does make sense because it shows that they are accepting the inevitable, but by doing so they have a little say over the terms. Sensible approach IMO.

    14. Pauline Oak Hills5 February 2014 04:36

@Portia Because William hates the media so why would he allow kate or the Middletons agree with the media to release photos of his wife and baby. He is very protective of them both and their privacy. You are just so sure that the had an agreement and I still do not agree with you. And I do not want to get into a pissing match with you over this. So you have your opinion & I have mine.

    15. This is an extract from the Independent newspaper. A broadsheet newspaper if i may add, not a tabloid.

The full article is: Prince George and the Paparazzi for those who wish to google and read entire article.

      http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/press/prince-george-and-the-paparazzi-9107692.html

      extract:

"The deal for the photographs, taken by an unnamed paparazzo, was brokered by Max Cisotti of Xclusive Pix!, a picture agency set up in 1992 and specialising in shots of royals. He says that the magazine had spoken to the palace and "got the green light" for publication. "We also waited until she came back [from Mustique], so there was no security issue."

Niri Shan , the head of intellectual property and media at lawyers Taylor Wessing, says: "The newspapers are self-censoring because they have the spectre of politicians coming in and trying to regulate them."

It helps explain why the shots were sold to a celebrity magazine famous for its approving treatment of the royals and other celebrities. "It's a favoured destination because once it's in Hello!, it's a bit more accepted and that makes it easier," explains Cisotti. "Usually Hello! manages to clear things because of its reputation."

the Daily Mail made a deal to print the cover of Hello! for a page seven article, while The Daily Telegraph published a news story containing the suggestion that the Duchess was more concerned with "image control" rather than protecting her privacy."

    16. @Pauline. William may hate the media and I can fully appreciate where that comes from, I really do, but he does not have the luxury of keeping George from being photographed in the way that Edward and Sophie managed to do. A deal such as this does not diminish his protective instinct where his wife and child are concerned; it's more an acceptance of reality. And by making a deal, it means he does have something to say about it.

    3. Hi Jean,

Do u think duchess Kate will be given colonel-in-chief of a RAF regiment sometime in the near future. ? I had the thought last year. She's taken flying lessons, her parents worked for the airways etc, seems logical next step.

I don't understand why people must undermine Pippa so frequently and without any apparent reason. Pippa seems to be doing the best she can under the circumstances. I cannot imagine being in her shoes - all the nonsense without the perks. She seems to be a sunny, perky, spunky character. In my mind she is more of a role model than her very pliant and conforming sister.

And, saying "She could give Pippa a run for her money if Kates a better writer than her..." is trivial because it's a tautology.

  25. It was quite a surprise seeing the photos in Hello today. They were taken in a public place so were not really intrusive and I think it was good to see Prince George it would have been nice if we had seen a little more of his face. It was nice to see Kate looking so fit and well and with her sparkle back which I feel has been missing a little these last few months.
Thinking back on these last few months and some of the comments suggesting idleness on her part I cannot help but feel she has had a tough few months.
When George was born logically the only place they could go to was her parents as their tiny cottage was too small to accommodate their baby. I felt that at that time the unkind snobbish comments regarding Kate's family were totally uncalled for.
William was still working in Search & Rescue she then went up to Wales for a short while to be with him until he finished his tour. She then faced a move back to the cottage leaving the place they both loved and I am sure would have liked to stay all this within the first few weeks of giving birth.
A few weeks later they moved into their new apartment. A christening followed and over the period between October early December she undertook a number of public engagements.
During that time I felt she was not totally herself some of the sparkle was missing possibly due to tiredness and coping with their complete change of lifestyle they both remarked independently of one another at the poppy appeal event that William was missing his flying job and I am sure they were both missing the tranquillity of Anglesey.
January a month when most of the Royal family undertake few public engagements and with William undertaking studies at Cambridge University has given her a chance to totally recover from a pregnancy that had its problems and the hectic few months since George's birth and hopefully we shall see Kate back at her best undertaking several engagements before the tour to Australia.
I look forward the two listed engagements no doubt the first one will be well covered it has already had considerable press coverage due to her meeting the transvestite artist and I hope the second event will get good coverage it is a small charity and Kate's involvement will make such a difference.
My guess is she will not wear a new dress for either occasion as she will need to purchase a great many new one's for the tour

  33. NBC News (major broadcast station in US) just reported, almost the identical story, that the DM has carried, about the Queen advising the Duchess on her wardrobe. It seems unusual to me, that they would use this story on the evening news, if we were not to see the Duchess in some jewels...she deserves them...

    1. Portia from Chicago4 February 2014 04:27

That is Charles' new media office at work. He is reaching out to the US because they know that the Royal family is followed in the US a great deal. Popularity of the royals abroad has a spillover effect on their popularity at home and the other colonies. Hence this outreach.

I believed the dailymail story this time around. I know there were some skeptics. I have no doubt that the queen got involved, instructed Kate explicitly about a dress code and assigned her personal dresser.

Who wants to wager a bet on Kate wearing longer hems and more jewelry ? I am usually not very wrong on PR/media related stuff .. but I will gladly eat dirt if I am proven wrong this time around.

      Delete
    2. wolfpup, IMO that gives NBC as much credibility as the DM. They're just repeating what the DM reported. Sometimes our coverage of the BRF makes me cringe because our news people don't exactly come across like experts.

    3. bluhare in Washington State4 February 2014 19:43

I believe that article too, Portia. And I don't know why people get up in arms. She's working when she's out on engagements, which means she's representing the BRF, which is basically the Queen. If my employer has a dress code, I have to follow it, and Kate shouldn't be any different. Doesn't mean she's not able to dress how she likes on her down time, but she should put forth the image her boss (the Queen) wants.

Maybe it's just the camera angle, but the side of her face looks a bit funny, and the face over all looks fuller. And, I swear, if that doesn't look like a Cabbage Patch Kid doll in the larger photo instead of a living human baby... Not knocking the royals whatsoever. 1. i know this is a fashion blog but Catherine does not exist merely to satisfy your "anonymous" fashion requirements. She wears what she is comfortable with when wearing her owncasual clothes, and with due consideration for her status and the event in question.

      get real.

  40. Hello everyone, great to see so many comments! Now, time to answer questions!

All the photos from Hello! are available here http://ilovethebritishroyals.tumblr.com/post/75487366468/kate-arriving-at-mustique-with-baby-george

Thank you Jean for providing info on the foreward, I will include it in our next post :)

I will be posting on The Royal Digest tomorrow and definitely continuing!

For the lady who asked about Kate's pants, Nordstrom carried a very similar pair although they appear to be sold out. I will update the moment Kate's pair or an almost identical one comes back into stock.

With thanks to those who shared news about the Angela Kelly story, I'm hoping to have a brief chat with a royal correspondent tomorrow and hope to share more details!

  41. Well i think the duchess will not sue the hello magazine according britshroyal .info

  42. I have to admit, when I first saw that cover, I thought the photo was surprising. Kate looked considerably fatter than usual, both in the face and body and the baby did look a bit doll-like. She was carrying him rather oddly too, letting him dangle rather than balancing him on her hip like most mums. And she was smiling which she rarely does when caught at private moments.

But it seems unlikely a top magazine like Hello! would fall for a hoax. And there are a lot of photos apparently. It certainly would be most unroyal to pull a hoax and particularly on Hello! Michael Douglas and his wife sued Hello! over their wedding photos and all of a sudden articles about them in Hello! dropped dramatically and were markedly less favourable. Hello! provides some of the best coverage of the royals out there, never nasty, rarely controversal. They were famous for buying up Diana swimsuit photos and not publishing them. While that wouldn't happen today most likely, the magazine remains a tremendous popular asset to the royal family.

The royals evidently gave the nod to Hello! to publish so I suppose one must believe the photos genuine. The Telegraph takes note that it is it odd after Williiam made a huge fuss about being photographed getting off the train but then maybe's that's why. That did seem pretty unreasonable on William's part. There's nothing private about getting off a train and his family wasn't involved.

All a bit mystery making. Maybe it was a set-up with the photographer to deter others. Who knows.

There is nothing mysterious about it.

The Palace did not object as taking these photos, publishing and releasing them was part of the deal that Kate made with the media.

I must be the only person who has had PR/media experience, because everyone else seems to think that is quite inconceivable.

Oh, and they made a fuss about William because the deal they had there was that he would give them the pictures on arrival and be left alone after that.

The Cambridges want full control of what they reveal to the public. So this will become a standard thing : they will decide which occasions to reveal and which not to.

It is a very very conventional media strategy. Most famous people adopt it - really. I know nobody believes me, but all I can say is wait and see.

I believe you! No, I'm not in PR but I know people who are.

    4. I believe you also, and agree with your opinions. I love that you clearly like the Duchess yet aren't blinded by being a fan and realize how things really ( most likely ) DO work behind closed doors.

    5. I thought the same when I saw the photos for the first time. They are not definitely spontaneous. Kate must have known and the photographer had royal permission.

The "Daily Telegraph" this morning is having a moan because KP had not objected to the publication of the Mustique photos--presumably cross because there was an objection to their paparazzi photo of Prince William. They seem to have entirely forgotten that the media got photos of his arrival in Cambridge on the understanding that they would leave him and the University in peace after.
If it is true that Catherine and George are home again, at least "Hello" waited to publish until they were back.

  45. Such a great surprise to see these two! Oh, George is sooo adorable. He's so big! And very interested in his... feet...? Yes? :)

Charlotte, did you know about this?

It seems Kate has written the forward of a book about the wives of RAF members. I can't remember if I've read about this previously or not.

    Hugs!

  46. Yes, I agree. George looks the exact same in each picture and people might use the look a like as believable because we have seen Kate in that outfit before. I, of course, am not totally positive but it just looks different. If it is in fact Kate and George, I wish I could see little George's face!!! And, again if it is him, I am happy to see the two together looking happy. I wish the best for them!

  47. Hi everybody. Greetings Lady Charlotte,

I'm off to Spain Ibiza for a 12 day holiday, a bit of winter sun.leaving John Lennon airport, up in Liverpool tomorrow afternoon. I can't wait.

I predicated there would be a change, to a more regal kate. Although she wears her own clothes her style is young modern high st, it's not regal. Also what is more important our kate has to slow down when in public occasions. She has to control her nervous energy imo She has a habit of going into a crowd and vigerously shaking hands, while flicking her hair back constantly, then stooping low to have a prolonged conversation with child. A simple "hello nice to meet you" and "thank you for the flowers their lovely" then move on. Smile gently instead of grinning.

I'm amazed at how she grabs people's hand to shake them, as if she is lucky to meet them, not the other way round. All she has to do is slowly, gently extend the hand, gently squeeze and return. Do not flick the fringe of your hair back behind your ears keeping the head straight. She should have gone to the famous finishing school royalty and famous people attend in Switzerland.

I actually like her style and and high end high st look. But also I would love her to have more elegance and splendour and have look regal too. I remember once Diana wearing a pink mens shirt, black jeans, and tanned lofahs in the middle of Africa. My older sister wore the same look for months and months because of her. Maybe we will see her more in trouser suits, longer skirts in windy stuations, haha. People forget Diana's skirt ballooned up in Canada at the same airport as kate and she frantically tried to hold it down. And in America a gust off wind blew her hat off her head. She laughed it off both times. In the internet age everything kate does is scrutinised a 100 times more than then.

I'm glad to see baby George, but I dunno bout' that picture.? Why would hello publish a off the cuff photo Maybe it was the Middletons not the actual palace. Hello does actually pay, so the Middletons being business people made a deal. Call it kate "working" and earning a bit of royalty money, just like the first baby George photo in the garden after his birth.. People forget the Middletons are successful business people. They've made money through property, legal services, web trading, publishing, as well as party supplies. once u have capital u always make money.

Kate and William are probably coordinating their image rights too, on everything from merchandising to published pictures and fashion. She does promote a few designers. That's why she/they have a dedicated office and staff albeit streamlined and efficient. Kate does know about management, and as a graduate from university she has the discipline for administration. Again "work" but not as many think haha.

    Love to all....Sam xoxo

    1. I totally disagree that Kate should adopt a simpler approach of "nice to meet you...thank you for the flowers". Her warmth and enthusiasm shines through and that's what people want to see. For a royal, a person is a face in the crowd, but for that individual, it's a special moment that they've waited for and it's important to recognize that. Diana didn't just do a quick hello, thank you and move on. She would stop to ask people how long they waited, especially in bad weather, or she would share a tidbit with them. That's how it's done.........and Kate gets that.

  48. I'm reminded of a poster on another forum once making an ironic comment about commoners teaching royalty how to curtsey! I'm surprised you didn't find the loafers too casual. Kate's approach is obviously successful as well as charming - look how many people come to greet her whenever they know she will be in a certain place.

Generations emerge - Queen Elizabeth II is not her grandmother Queen Mary, though she has some of the same mannerisms. I doubt she is dictating Kate's royal style. Probably she and Angela Kelly would advise if needed.

Peter Phillips was in trouble for inviting media to his wedding for money. I seriously question whether the the Middletons would do such a thing.

I know I should restrain my impulse to play the part of a retired English teacher (though I am!), but I believe the word for Kate's contribution to the RAF book is "foreword." It comes before the words of the book begin. I don't think anybody on either side of the Atlantic has spelled it quite right yet.
