Time to Vote for Kate's Best Shoes & Boots of 2013 + Jewellery ID

While all remains quiet on the royal news front, we're back with our penultimate poll post today. For those of you who may be new visitors to the blog or to regular who may have missed previous posts, you can still vote for Kate's Best Dress, Kate's Best Coat, Kate's Best Separates Look and Kate's Best Designer of 2013 over at our Polls Page.

I mentioned voting for hats next, but first let's take a look at Kate's footwear collection (yours truly almost forgot, silly me!) We'll be dividing this into two sections - shoes and boots - as it seemed more appropriate to separate the two.

We begin with a look at Kate's black suede Episode 'Angel' Pumps. They became a 'go-to' pair for official appearances in 2013, and it is believed HRH purchased them some time ago at House of Fraser; they are currently sold out.

We saw Kate's £400 brown suede 'Valerie' court shoes by Emmy Shoes again in 2013.

Next we look at the pair of shoes which we most commonly associate with the Duchess: her trusty L.K. Bennett Sledge Pumps. The taupe patent leather court shoes retail for £195 and feature an almond toe, slim high heel and slight platform. Readers who have purchased the shoes noted how comfortable they are, even when worn for long periods of time. Have you had any personal experience with the Sledge pumps or any of Kate's other footwear?

For The Art Room Reception, Kate teamed her pale blue Emilia Wickstead dress with her Rupert Sanderson 'Malone' Pumps.

We saw Kate in her Pied a Terre 'Imperia' espadrille wedges throughout 2013. The Duchess is a huge fan of the incredibly comfortable wedge which features a canvas upper and buckle slingback.

The Duchess brought back her very popular Sebago 'Bala' Boat Shoes from the 2011 Canada Tour for an Anglesey grocery shopping trip.

Sebago

For the glittering Tusk Trust Awards, the Duchess wore her gorgeous Jimmy Choo 'Vamp' Sandals.

Kate made an energetic return to solo engagements in October, enjoying a game of volleyball. What amazed most of us was her ability to participate in her very high Stuart Weitzman 'Corkswoon' Wedges. The round-toe wedges feature a 5 and 1/4 inch wedge heel, rubber outsole and a cushioned leather lining and insole. This pair falls into the "love'em or hate'em" category amongst readers, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the poll.

We saw Kate's £165 Park Avenue Pumps by Russell and Bromley at Prince George's christening. They look incredibly similar to the Sledge pumps. The round-toe shoes in beige patent leather with a neat outside platform and a slim heel.

Russell & Bromley

For a comfy shopping look, the Duchess wore her grey Mint Velvet plimsolls.

Mint Velvet

The Duchess wore her navy suede Alexander McQueen shoes for a charity forum in November.

We saw Kate's gorgeous Jimmy Choo Cosmic Pumps a couple of times in 2013. The black suede shoes polish off any evening look and have served the Duchess very well for formal functions.

Kate wore black suede shoes by Prada to the Mandela première. The round-toe pumps are made in Italy and feature leather insole and lining, leather outsole, low-cut vamp and 4 1/4 inch covered high heel. They're available for €507 at Neiman Marcus.

The Duchess wore a relatively small selection of shoes in 2013 compared to 2012, but there are some lovely pairs in there. As for my own personal favourites, I'm going with the Jimmy Choo Cosmic Pumps. They are so elegant, versatile and really complete any look. I think they would have looked magnificent at the Mandela première with the Roland Mouret 'Lombard' dress.

Let's take a look at boots worn by the Duchess in 2013. We begin with the Seville Suede Boots by Really Wild Clothing. The chocolate boots retail for £295 and are described as: "Incredibly elegant and narrow fit which tapers to the ankle. These are hand made in Spain from chocolate suede."

Really Wild Clothing

Next, we look at boots by Kate's go-to brand Aquatalia. We begin with a pair most of you are very much familiar with: the Aquatalia 'Rhumba'. The $698 black suede tall stretch boots are weatherproof with a half inside zipper and breathable microfibre lining.

Aquatalia

Kate brought back her much loved Aquatalia 'Royal' booties for an engagement before Christmas. They're a lovely style which have served her well with a number of looks, however I think it may soon be time to retire this pair in favour of new ones. They do look a little tired and worn, but you know, I've always admired Kate's thriftiness and it's interesting to see someone in her position acquiring as much wear as possible from her items.

Kate debuted a new pair of boots late last year, the Aquatalia 'Neptune', also known as the New-Dry Fur Trim Wedge Boot at Russell & Bromley. The £225 weather-resistant black suede ankle boots are another pair which very much fall into the love/hate category. What do you think of them?

The Duchess wore her Stuart Weitzman 'Zipkin' boots at Cheltenham this year. The stylish boots are currently reduced from $675 to $473 at Zappos.

Moving on to a very practical pair of boots many of us will have in our closets: Wellington boots. Kate favours the La Chameau Vierzon Nord Wellies.

I voted for the Aquatalia Rhumba boots, what about you? :)

We have just one more piece of news to share today and it concerns a major jewellery ID. Many of you will recall the stunning ruby and diamond necklace and matching bracelet Kate wore with her black velvet Alexander McQueen gown at the Sun Military Awards in 2011.

A closer look at the beautiful necklace.

Splash News

I received confirmation the set is in fact by Mouawad, a luxury jewellery brand based in Geneva, Switzerland. The identification is thanks to two of our readers Lurdes from Tesouras & Tiaras, and Boryana who contacted me to let me know they believed the pieces were by Mouawad. I wrote to them this morning and they verified it quite quickly.

Many of us previously speculated about the possibility Kate's necklace could also be worn as a tiara, Mouawad confirmed this is not the case. Below we similar designs made from diamond and rubies in 18K gold.

Mouawad

With stores all over the world, Mouawad has been a leading jewellery brand for over a century. The brand designs, manufactures and sells its own exclusive jewellery and timepiece collections, ranging from boutique collections to magnificent bespoke masterpieces (such as Kate's). Mouawad has featured in the Guinness World Book of Records four times - most recently for designing the most valuable necklace in the world, which holds a value of $55 million.

Mouawad $55m Necklace

On the night of the Sun Military Awards, the Palace revealed the Duchess received the set as a wedding present. The entire look remains my absolute favourite since the royal wedding. Kate was every inch the royal and the jewels added another dimension to the outfit. A huge thank you to Boryana and Lurdes!

We'll be back with our final poll looking at hats, clutches and jewellery next :)

  1. Wow what a collection of shoes and boots! But I must admit, just looking at the height of those heels makes my feet hurt! (That's why I voted for the Sebago shoes :) ) How does Kate manage to wear those everyday, and sometimes standing for hours at a time? I have permanent damage to my feet just from wearing pointy-toed heels back when I was in my 20's, (which was 30 years ago). I hope that she doesn't suffer the same effects. She does look beautiful, but I could not sacrifice comfort for style.

    1. Hello!

Thank you so much for commenting. Kate does love very high heels, I expect it's all about wearing them in before wearing them publicly. I voted for the Cosmic Pumps for the sheer glamour of them but in practical terms I also love the Sebago Bala Shoes :)

    2. Absolutely agree. And NO amoutn of "wearing them in" makes up for a 4 or 5 inch heel's damage to the bone structure of the feet. There is a brand Taryn Rose, designed by a female orthopedic surgeon but even they don't go over 3 inches. I find it interesting that she really doesn't have any elegant low heeled shoes, but there are certainly enough brands that make them, such as Cole-Haan, Bruno Magli, Chanel..

Kate may have a high arch. I do and can wear 3-4 inch heels and walk all over town.

  2. They're all such lovely shoes, Kate has such excellent taste, doesn't she!? I thought that Kate wore the Episode Angel to the Mandela Premiere myself, but in photos where she's getting out of the car, it doesn't look like they have platforms and they look a lot higher. Their shape looks quite like a round-toe Prada shoe? The Jimmy Choo Cosmic would have worked wonderfully with the Roland Mouret gown too though! They are an amazing evening shoe!

The Shoe Poll seems to be not working at the moment, Charlotte, it always says "poll cannot be found" when you vote...... Anyhow, I voted for the brown "Emmy" shoes. I usually am no fan of brown at all, but they really do look so chic... And the suede somehow looks more elegant and refined in brown than in black (ok, it could also be due to the photograph). The black Jimmy Choo were my second favourite, they look stylish and elegant. It truly amazes me, too, that the Duchess is able to wear such high heels at any given moment - even while playing volleyball.... My feet start aching, too, just by looking at those heels....

I absolutely ADORED this jewellery from Mouawad!!! Absolutely wonderful - just to look at it is a treat never mind actually WEARING one of those pieces....The Duchess is one lucky person... I am a regular "Vogue" reader but I`ve never heard of them or seen an ad,so they really must be some very special jeweller only known by "the happy few"....
Wonderful post, Charlotte, it´s such a treat to read your blog first thing in the morning.... Thanks a lot and lots of love, Eve from Germany

I voted for my favourite dresses, shoes, boots ... Great fun !

I must admit I'm not a fan of the style of the Duchess' Mouawad necklace. For "big" jewels, I prefer more classical, timeless pieces, like those worn by Princess Mary or Queen Maxima, who is lucky enough to wear incredible jewels. At the moment, in Paris, there is the marvellous Cartier exhibition, where the tiara worn at her wedding is shown. Gorgeous ! But then again, just a question of personal taste :-)

    1. British royalty has traditionally never been ostentatious or fabulously jewelled. That was the point. Only Queen Mary and the Queen Mother wore jewells that were considered fabulous and classic beffitting a royal status because these were 'formidable women of their day, who projected their ststus. People loved and respected them for it. Why not they were Queens. .Their fabulous collections are now considered classic timeless pieces passed on and exhibited on grand occasions and sspecial exibits famously the cartier exibits. Oh how the tourist flock to see Even now Faberge pieces resonate till this day.

In modern day, Kate duchess doesn't wear anything as fabulous she is considered "not royal enough". ?? If she wears expensive items she is critised befitting her status, then shouts of "taxpayers" this and "taxpayers that.??. She's damned either way. Mainly by jealous pppl. She wesrs affordable high St fashion. Her shoes are what everyday people can wear. I don't mind if she wears dm's (doc martins) addidas trainers or union jack wellies...she has style and class. Designers fight to get her to wear their stuff. Everything is sold out the moment she wears anything especially in age group. She appeals to women and girls obviously especially in countries where they can't have real Princess, hence why British royalty is looked upon with a little envy. The French Italians and other Europeans have the style I guess, but have nothing to project that style onto.

We're lucky to have Kate. She's fabulous .

    2. Sam, I'm not sure I agree with your first statement... the Queen wears fabulous jewelry for formal evenings and some of Camilla's choices have been even larger.

Yes, you are all very fortunate- she has such class and great style.

    4. Royal fan, I agree. I have seen pictures of queen Elizabeth wearing some incredible jewels....a strong variety. She does repeat some of her jewels, but just the tiaras really. She is decked out on state occasions. I imagine being there to see her in person one might be blinded from all that bling she wears. Fabulous, just fabulous. Would give my right thumb to tour the vault. Also, she wears then with such class...even though she is wearing an amazing amount if jewels , she never looks gaudy or overdone. Just incredible. Love the Queen. Just finished reading a biography about her.

      Delete
    5. jenndog, the Queen DOES wear them with class. Totally agree. I do feel sorry for her when I see the large earrings because they must be very heavy! No wonder she sticks with simple pearl studs the rest of the time.

    6. bluhare in Washington State19 January 2014 at 03:05

jenndog/royalfan: Totally agree with you re HM and her jewels. Have either of you seen the book about the queen's diamonds? It's a coffee table book with photos of all her personal pieces from Queen Mary and Alexandra plus the Queen Mother. They're amazing, Queen Mary's in particular. And they're her personal jewels. The crown jewels don't even get a mention.

And I agree re earrings. I hate heavy earrings, and I really don't like it if they make your earlobe stretched out. And, as a tidbit, I read not too long ago that the triple pearl strand the Queen wears almost every day was a gift from her father on her 18th birthday. I think it's so sweet she wears them every day.

      Delete
    7. bluhare, you refreshed my memory about the Queen's pearls. Yes, that is very sweet. I agree.

jenndog, I wanted to add that I've seen photos of the Queen at some of these state occasions and sometimes you can catch the person next to her eyeing the jewels. And sometimes straining to do so! I know I would! LOL.

      Delete
    8. Bluhare, it is absolutely precious that the queen chooses to wear the pearl necklace her father gave her over all the other jewels she owns...that is just one of the reasons I like her so much. Royal fan, I looked up some of the pictures you mentioned...its so funny to see people " breaking their necks" to get a peak at the jewels. I concur with you, in that I don't blame them lol. I own a few pairs of heavy chandelier earrings (not expensive) and I have to say, they are not worth the pain. Also bluhare, I haven't seen the book in regards to the queens personal jewel collection. I'm going to Barnes and Noble first thing after church tomorrow lol. Thanks for for the tip

  5. Duchess Kate often looks lovely, but her taste in shoes is really nothing special. I don't think any of her platform shoes are particularly stylish. Don't mean to offend anyone who reads this page.

    1. At last, someone else who agrees with me. I am desperate for Lupo the spaniel, to be let loose in her shoe closet and rip her shoes, particularly the Sledge and brown suede booties to shreds, and for Crown Princess Mary of Denmark to ride to the rescue and take her on a shoe shopping trip. Her taste in shoes is impeccable. Some of Kate's, particularly the platforms, look as if she's raided the Queen Mother's shoe cupboard as she was a great lover of patent platforms, particularly white, and if a white pair of platforms turn up during the Australia/NZ trip then I shall be able to say I told you so!!! On the side subject of CP Mary of Denmark, take a look at her posture and deportment it's perfect, not a slouch it be seen. Charlotte, you do such a tremendous job with your blog you should be very proud.

    2. Thank you very very much Lesley :)

    3. Cp Mary of Denmark dresses like my mum. She's nowhere as stylish as Kate. Cp Mary has "sensible secretarial" look about her. She beats Kate in confidence, as Kate is a little unsure of herself to her huge audience, media and general public.

My mum also says wegdes were big in the 70's amongst the soul train" dance heyday. It came with the hotpants and afro look. They were comfortable and u could move also. It came from the New York club scene and grooved into the london "hippy chick" crowd. She's amazed its back in style with kate. In those days it was called wedge sandals or platforms. Cleopatra Jones is wearing them on a poster. I like it for causal, for formal stuff Jimmy choo is kickin' The long boots are nice to, but u need long legs to hit it off to great effect WWhen tucked into jeans.

I know the duchess reads this blog, lady Charlotte.

      Keep up the good work

    4. I have to agree that her choices in shoes tend to be safe (if not the height...lol). And I am LOL at the reminder of the Queen Mother's white platforms. OMG! But let's face it...it was a solid shoe for a solid lady. :) But the total opposite of what Princess Mary wears for sure.

I happen to dislike the brown ankle boots, but I think the navy Corkswoon is fun and young. The rest are basic, middle of the road shoes, IMO.

    5. bluhare in Washington State16 January 2014 at 22:40

I agree with you, although not quite for the same reason. I haven't voted for anything because Kate's a traditionalist with her shoes, they're pretty much the same only different colours, and I know that being royal means she can't wear cutting edge stuff particularly. That being said, so am I. Almost all my shoe wardrobe are court shoes, although I've got a few more ankle strappy ones than Kate wears out in public. Kate appears to be of the mindset that the shoes should set off the outfit, not scream for attention in their own right if you know what I mean. Me too. Plus I'd rather have fewer pairs of awesome shoes, but that's just me and a budget.

      Delete
    6. Wholeheartedly agree with Anonymous @ 09.17 and Lesley. In my opinion these shoes are all 'nice' but nothing more than that. I also think that Princess Mary, not only has amazing shoes, but is a fantastic dresser. Queen Maxima of the Netherlands too. They are always so stylish, chic and often a little quirky, no matter what the occasion. They are both older than Kate and have lots more experience than her. For the moment, in the fashion stakes at least, it really shows!

    7. Portia from Chicago17 January 2014 at 02:16

Sam, I have to say that I am astonished that you say that CP Mary has a secretarial look about her ! Clearly we come from VERY different places. Mary was voted the most stylish royal, and I believe that is well-earned. I completely disagree with your assessment.
In my opinion, Mary, Maxima and the Swedish CP are among the most stylish professionally dressed women there are today. Kate could not hold a candle to any of them in style - clothes, shoes, hairstyle.. any of it. BUT she is absolutely the most gorgeous - they cannot hold a candle to her in looks.

It's ironic that she was so so beautiful, stylish, carefree and absolutely alluring before she got married - both in looks and in what she wore. CLearly the whole 'royal' induction phase she is going through has thrown her for a loop.. I do believe that she has the potential to dress beautifully, but I confess that it's rare for me to be awestruck by what she wears. It's all very plain, very blase... non-professional to boot, at least half the time.

      Delete
    8. Kate's fashion choices are intended to be appropriate and non-threatening IMO. If she dressed like Mary, she would be criticized for spending too much money (something that happens despite all the recycling she does).

Also, the European princesses mentioned here are married to the next in line; Kate is not.

      Delete
    9. I don't particularly want her to dress like CP Mary but take a look at the difference that her shoes make to an outfit and they scream elegance, the outfits just look better put together, because of the shoes, and to be honest Kate needs to look in a full length mirror before leaving the palace and see that rain-marked suede shoes/booties do not cut the mustard and the same for unweighted hems. As for the rain-marked suede all that needs to be done is for them to be held over a kettle of boiling water and brushed with a suede brush to bring them back to life. I really like Kate and it pains me that she doesn't seem to see some of this stuff, and if she doesn't have someone giving shoes etc the once over then she needs to get someone. As I said Lupo needs to be given free rein to chew her shoe collection to shreds!!

Lesleyc, I own many suede shoes and boots, and in defense of Kate - they really hard to photograph well. They only photograph well when the grain is proper, and even if she gives them a nice brushing before setting out, over the course of a few hours it will look unpolished. It is something I struggle with constantly myself (thankfully noone photographs me !) but I love suede like Kate does, and so I do understand her attachment to a good pair of suede boots or heels.

  7. Thanks for such a great post Charlotte! I voted for the the Slege shoe and the Mint Velvet Plimsolls. I have looked for them online but can't find them. :( I love all her shoes so this choice was very difficult to make. I like the Slege for its versitility, the color goes with everything. I think it's the shoe the Duchess wears when she wants to be comfortable and not have to worry about which shoe will work with the outfit she's wearing. I picked the Plimsolls because they look so comfortable and fun.
As you can see from my choices, I'm all about comfort. I would love to be able to wear the Rhumba boots, but with a bad back that's just not possible. However, I am saving up to purchase a pair of the Seville suede boots!!

  10. Charlotte, I just have to write a comment now! I've been reading your blog for quite a while now and I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy it! You have such a great writing style, the posts are so informative and it makes me smile everytime I see that you have published a new post! :) This blog is a main reason why I like Kate so much as I can "follow" her lifestyle and style in a very detailed way. It's so much fun and I can only imagine how much effort and time you put in this website. Thank you very much for that and keep on doing such a great job!
It really is a shame that there is no comparable blog on any other European royal.. or have I missed one? I started reading one about princess Mary but compared to this one it just looses.

When it comes to shoes, I have to say that I do not like her boots at all. Most of them look a bit old-fashioned I think. Her "other" shoes are nice, but nothing special. Still it's amazing how Kate (and all the other ladies out there ;)) manage to wear so high heels! In public! With everybody watching her every step... :D

I asked a question some time ago that was not answered but still is in my head all the time... It's this nail varnish-thing :D Does anyone know why most of the royals almost never wear varnish except for nude shades? Is it "forbidden"? Do they simply not like it? It could add so much to certain outfits and make them that little bit more perfect ;)

  11. Just looked at the Court Circular for January. The Queen, Philip, Charles, Camilla, Edward seem to have no engagements either. Sophie had a private meeting and lunch, Anne had a couple of private meetings and a visit to the Boat Show with her husband (they are keen sailors). This is what I mean about the Royals having terms or seasons. The summer season is the busiest, before the three months when the Queen goes to Balmoral on holiday. I agree with whomever said that William and Kate are making sure (or the courtiers are) that Charles and Camilla, as next in line, are not overshadowed.

  15. I grew up on ladylike pumps so I love all of Kate's simple pumps and I think the reliance on platforms and wedges is for comfort. She likes to balance her long torso with a sky high heel and platforms help to moderate a very high heel when standing for long periods. I voted for the Jimmy Choo Vamps because they are so beautiful and unusual for her. For boots, the Aquatalia Rhumba boot all the way, I want those boots! Thanks for the update on the necklace's origin. It's a perfect style for a young woman. Remember Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, talking about women under 40 not wearing diamonds? Modern day translation: I think Kate can leave the elaborate historic pieces for when she is Queen Consort some day.

  16. Also in terms of shoes Kate.'s style is flawless, but definitively she cannot be deemed a shoes-lover! The world is full of amazing shoes and hers, with very limited exceptions such as the Vamp sandals, are all quite ordinary, really nothing special, plus they all look the same! If not boots or booties, plain monochrome pumps, plain monochrome pumps, plain monochrome pumps! Now, we could well tell that this is Kate's signature style, I do think it is, but there is no point in voting in this poll for someone, like me for example, who truly loves shoes!
PS: congratulations for your blog, Charlotte, you must invest a lot of time here, and you produce something worth this time!

    1. Thank you so much.

It's interesting to note I've received comment/FB messages/Tweets/Emails today from readers explaining they don't wish to vote as they don't like any of the options. This is the first poll it's happened with!

  17. I have a pair of the LK Bennett 'Sledge' shoes in size 37. They are too big for me as I bought them on-line.
Would anyone be interested in buying them? Or swapping for size 36? They are in good condition and are very versatile.
Charlotte, the polls are great fun. Keep up the good work. I always look forward to logging on and reading.

  18. I have four pairs of the shoes that the Duchess owns: the Sebagos, Royal bootie, S. Weitzman Minx (not part of the poll), and the Imperia wedges. The Imperia wedges are super comfortable and have held up for three years.

All of the shoes are very comfortable, but the wedges are special. The Royal bootie is also fabulous and worth the investment. They keep your feet toasty...which is especially important in MN.

I also have a pair of the LK Bennett "Maddox" wedges (they are the reissue of the shoes she wore before and after the wedding). They are beautiful, but I don't think they were designed for everyday wear. Had to get them re-soled already. Makes me wonder how her Sledges have held up so well.

Hmmmmm I really have boot issues. I love them! So I choose the Seville Suede. Concerning the shoes well for comfort, I really like the Balance Boat shoes. Hey I'm old like 53 but for the glamorous affect the Jimmy Chi damsels. Wow I love the color of the Alexander shoes. Oh my goodness this is seriously complicating. I'll give it one more day then vote tomorrow!

  20. I have the LK Bennett "Sledge" pumps and they are extremely comfortable!! They were a surprise Christmas present from my parents last year, and I wear them very sparingly in the hopes that I will get years out of them, like Kate has! They are beautiful, match everything, and are the most comfortable pumps I've ever worn (including Louboutins)- I highly reccomend them!
Thanks for another fun post:) LOVE shoes & Kate's boots are incredible.

  22. Hi Charlotte - you know what I just realised...... YOU are the one who is doing a lot to boost the british fashion industry! Some representative should actually thank you (and give you lots of free cloths, shoes, bags....). I follow this blog since 2011 and have drawn so many inspirations from it. Seriously, your work and international shipping make it happen. I am now frequently buying Hobbs and Goat, two brands I didn't even know until the Duchess wore them and you supplied the details. I fell in love with Jonathan Saunders and I just ordered a skirt at Really Wild Clothing because the boots poll brought the brand back on the radar. So, Chapeau! and thank you very much! For me, british fashion has never been more creative and refined and I absolutely adore that mix of understatement and excentric. But I have to admit I only started paying that much attention after following the Duchess' style - on this blog. Please keep doing what you do. And my appeal to the fashion CEOs: you better find a nice way to thank this lovely lady : )

    1. Oh thank you so much Anna!

We were lucky enough to get many of Kate's brands to donate pieces for the Baby Cambridge Fundraiser last year and we were all so thrilled with that.

It's excellent to see people all over the world supporting British fashion. Kate has done a lot in that respect. Take Really Wild for example; a small British brand which has gained fans all over the world thanks to Kate and I know from experience their team are just great and so helpful!

    2. Good to know! : )
I just went to the Rupert Sanderson website because I always really liked the blue-grey-ish pumps and OMG, doesn't he make beautiful shoes. I could so see the Duchess wearing more of his designs. There is a up to 50% sale on at the moment but unfortunately 50% off at Rupert Sanderson still costs an arm and a leg. Still, soooo cute mid heels.

  23. Great job on the blog and I love these polls but I have to agree that her shoe choices are disappointing and not in the least exciting. Elegant shoes, but all very similar and safe. What about a poll about the shoes we liked the least lol? My vote would be the Episode shoes. For some reason, they strike me as cheap looking. I'm not a fan of her boots either, except the Really Wild pair.

Great ID on the necklace and bracelet. Is there any rumor or speculation on who would have had this set made for her by a Swiss jeweler? It's beautiful and worn with the black gown is one of my all-time favorite Kate looks!

    1. Hello!

I'm afraid not. The Palace said it was a wedding gift from a friend. I doubt we'll ever hear more than that.

    2. I agree with the readers here who express their opinion that Kate's shoe choice is not very adventurous. A male friend commented that her shoes were generally not very attractive due to their 'platform' soles, reduces the elegance. I think she likes them to give her added height, and they are more comfortable to wear. I would like to see her in flat shoes for a daytime engagement for a change. I hope she does not wear the L K Bennett 'Sledge' shoes on numerous occasions in Australia/New Zealand, we've seen them SO many times on her royal tours.....Liz Jones (the fashion journalist) wrote in the 'Daily Mail' about how tired she was of seeing them on Kate's feet all the time.

    3. I agree with you about her boots and shoes, I also voted for the 'Really Wild' pair.

    4. Readers have written hear about Kate not generally wearing jewellery that is too extravagant. Who do people feel about the long gold necklace with the gold rings that she wore with the Stella McCartney dress to the National Portrait Gallery (I think) for the Olympic event? It was supposed to have cost thousands of pounds. I wonder whether it was on loan to her?

    5. Agree, here's the Duchess's shoes: high heeled pumps in neutrals, boots in black or brown, ballet flats in neutrals, wedges in neutrals, flats in neutral. BOR-ing. I think she could be appropriate, an ambassador for British fashion, and comfortable wearing snazzier shoes!

Mo, if I remember correctly it was reported it was a gift.

      Delete
    7. bluhare: You are right. With an estimated worth of £49,000, though, it's an extravagant item, although maybe the Duchess cannot be excused of extravagance as it was a gift.

  24. Hello all. Kate's Aquatalia Royal booties have looked worn from the first time that she has worn them for a public engagement. I am astonished that she chooses to wear them; even I would be embarrassed wearing them as the suede does not good. Extraordinary decision to wear them. I have noticed that magazines and newspapers have been kind and have chosen not to comment on their condition; I am pleased that you have made a subtle remark, I thought that I was the only person who noticed! I don't care too much for Kate's new Aquatalia "Neptune' boots, not keen on the style. One of your photos here of Kate's 'Angel' shoes (with black tights) again shows that the suede looks worn. A shame that we have not seen her for some time now! I feel that she could make an appearance.......if only a brief 1 or 2 hours charity visit.......I think I recently read that she was seen shopping wearing a long green coat; (near to her birthday) I don't know if there are any photos of her on that occasion on the Amercian websites??

  26. I've already voted, my favourites are the blue MacQueen suede pumps (gorgeous) and the Seville Really Wild boots (very casual chic).
I thought I would see on the boots poll the Oscar Giada black boots Kate wore in Switzerland, when she was strolling in the snow, in March 2013.. They were cute :)

  31. Safari ate my post again! Anyone else have problems with posting from an Apple computer using Safari?

On to the shoes...I chose the Jimmy Choo "Vamp," but I'm biased because I own them - the only shoes the Duchess wears that I actually own. They are incredibly comfortable and based on the number of "ooh, I love your shoes" I get, they seem to catch the eye even from under a floor length dress. I wear them as often as I can. For the boots, I chose the Really Wild suede. I love they way they look and they seem like they'd work with many outfits. I love the Aquatalia boots as well, but we see them so often!

I agree with the many posts about Kate's rather boring shoe collection. Most of them are nice, but nothing special. I like all the platform shoes though. I like the look and I know from my own collection that they are more comfortable to wear. Plus, I feel like they look a little more youthful and current than a plain heeled shoe.

I don't like the new wedge booties at all. They look so clunky on her feet. I generally like wedges and I like many of Kate's summery ones. I even have a repli-Kate version of the Corkswoon in gray suede that I've had since well before the Duchess started wearing them. But, those wedge booties with faux fur trim...ugh!

Thanks for all your posts, Charlotte! I look forward to them every week!

  32. Kate looks good in just about everything, but even someone as lovely as she, with her great legs should never, ever wear a wedge shoe. In fact, I think they should be outlawed for all women as they are absolutely ghastly looking on just about everyone. I really have never seen a pretty wedge shoe.

    1. I half agree with you. :) I like wedges in the summer (espadrilles), but I don't care for wedge style boots and shoes in winter (sort of clunky).

    Hi, Charlotte!
Thank you for the great post!
I voted for the LK Bennett Sledge and the Rhumba boots! Love them!

I sent you an email a few days ago and, I know you're a very busy lady, but I really need your help! Sorry to bother you, anyway.

Hugs and enjoy a great weekend, my friends!

  34. In the picture of Kate wearing the Jimmy Choo vamp sandals, it looks as though she is already having problems wih her feet, especially her big toe curving too much. She usually wears rounded, closed toe shoes and apparently whatever she can find that feels comfortable. Her feet may hurt a lot in high heels, although that doesn't stop her from wearing them. Maybe the folks who really like avant garde shoes should cut her some slack.

Speaking of shoes, reading your post reminded me of when she judged a shoe design competition and got a pair of the shoes she chose as the winner. Don't think she's ever worn them in public.

    4. I don't mean to be mean, but those shoes were hideous, in my opinion. I truly hope she never wears it in public and I certainly doubt it she ever will, since they don't match her style at all!

    5. I agree with Anon 14:04. Definitely not Kate's style. They are the runway version of shoes (meaning you don't expect to see them anywhere else). ;)
