Kate's Sporty Return To Solo Engagements

The Duchess of Cambridge conducted her first solo engagement since the birth of Prince George this morning, visiting a SportsAid Athlete Workshop at Olympic Park.

Today's engagement marked Kate's first official visit as patron of the organisation which helps the next generation of British athletes by being the first to recognise their achievements and support their ambitions. Since it was established in 1976, the charity has helped many of the UK's most successful sportsmen and women, including two-thirds of the British team at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Duchess was a London 2012 ambassador and is passionate about sports. Supporting SportsAid seems very much a natural fit for her.

Damien Ward shared a photo of the athletes ahead of the Duchess of Cambridge's arrival via Twitter.

The Duchess viewed young SportsAid athletes taking part in a number of sports activities, including wheelchair basketball, CP football and football.

Kate joined athletes and their parents at educational workshops focusing on nutrition in sport, general guidance, working with media and utilising social media.

Olympians and Paralympians including Karen Pickering, Ade Adepitan and Katherine Grainger were on hand to offer advice. The workshops offered the Duchess first hand insight into the challenges faced and the importance of the charity's work with young athletes.

Kate posed for a photo with the young athletes.

SportsAid shared the following information about Kate's role as patron:

'As SportAid's patron, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge is helping to shine a light on the achievements and potential of young athlete throughout the UK - an inspiring generation who one day hope to represent the nation at the Olympic or Paralympic Games.
SportsAid alumnus Sir Chris Hoy welcomed the patronage by saying, "SportsAid played an important role when I was starting out so I know what a huge boost this will be to the young sportsmen and women the charity helps today. As patron The Duchess will give them the profile they deserve."'

The event was held at The Copper Box Arena, Olympic Park, which hosted the Handball, Modern Pentathlon Fencing and Paralympic Goalball during the 2012 Games. It is one of London's most flexible indoor venues, with retractable seating for up to 7,500 spectators, allowing for a wide range of sports and activities. It will be a major venue for a whole host of events from premiership basketball to pop concerts and it's wonderful to see a charity such as SportsAid availing of its facilities.

Wikipedia

The Mirror shared this.

'In the mock press conference, Kate asked a young athlete how the training and help from SportsAid had helped with their hypothetical career. The spotlight is still definitely on the Duchess today - not her young interviewee'.

More on the media workshop from the Mail Online.

'She asked the young players: 'Does it help to compare each other's sports and stuff. This must be a real opportunity to help each other'.
As she left, SportsAid's chief executive, Tim Lawler, said of her visit: 'The thing that has really struck me is how keen she was to see what we did in action. We are a charity about people, not great buildings. Every penny we raise goes to the kind of people you see here. We always tell our young people that they are beautiful and inspirational and now we can say that about our patron too'.

There was no mention of Prince George, it is thought the three-month-old is at home with his father.

Kate regretted not wearing more comfortable shoes when the opportunity to take part in fencing arose.

Peter Hunt Twitter Feed

However it didn't deter her from participating in a game of volleyball.

It is only three months since she gave birth to little George and she's already back in her skinny (super-super-skinny) jeans. She has a very athletic body type and has always been very fit. I make a point of not commenting on weight but I have no doubt it will come up in conversation today - Kate looks amazing and most importantly healthy!

Olympian Katherine Grainger said Kate's efforts in high shoes were 'very impressive'. Most importantly it looked like terrific fun :)

Waving goodbye as she left Olympic Park.

The Duchess looked lovely today, opting for a dressed down look for the Olympic Park visit. Kate wore a selection of pieces we've seen before beginning with her €460 navy Smythe One Button Blazer. For fans of the brand Nordstrom have a nice selection of their blazers.

Smythe

The Duchess teamed her blazer with the Ralph Lauren 'Tori' Breton Striped Tee. Crafted from soft striped cotton, the long sleeve boatneck tee combines casual comfort with nautical appeal. Kate's top is sold out but there are a selection of similar items available. Below we look at the top in red and white.

Ralph Lauren

It appears Kate sported her J Brand Skinny Jeans. The navy luxe twill jeans feature faux front pockets and patch back pockets. They're 98% cotton and 2% lycra. They've been a staple in Kate's wardrobe over the past couple of years and we've seen her wearing them on numerous occasions. The $169 jeans are available at J Brand.

Kate selected her Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon Wedges to complete her look. You may recall the Duchess wore them throughout the Olympics last year. The round toe wedges features a 5 1/4 inch wedge heel, rubber outsole and a cushioned leather lining and insole.

Stuart Weitzman/Russell and Bromley

They're a nice choice for this time of year and work very well with skinny jeans. At the moment they're available in tan and on sale at Neiman Marcus and 6 p.m.

Kate accessorised with her Kiki McDonough 'Grace' earrings.

Kate also sported a watch, It's Gucci piece with a stainless steel and gold plated bracelet, she's had it for years.

You can watch videos from today's engagement at ITV NewsITN Source and the BBC.

It was lovely to see Kate today, she appeared to thoroughly enjoy taking part in activities especially the volleyball. Next week it will be a change of pace for the Duchess with Prince George's christening on Wednesday and the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala on Thursday.

We also have two other topics to share today, beginning with news on Prince William who hosted his first investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday. It represented an extension of the Prince's public duties after he left the Royal Air Force last month. Standing in for his grandmother, The Queen, William presented awards recognising a wide array of achievements.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Official Website

It was reported he was feeling quite nervous about it, and apart from one very minor hiccup it went splendidly well.

Most notably, William presented Wimbledon champion Andy Murray with his Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Official Website

The British Number One tweeted, "In the middle of a drugs test hahaha I'm going to be late", just hours before the ceremony but managed to make it on time, accompanied by his parents and his girlfriend Kim Sears, who looked stylish in a Matthew Williamson Wool Blend Dress, a designer we've also seen Kate wear.

PA

The tennis star, who has become a household name in recent years, counts the Duchess and her sister Pippa Middleton among his supporters. Speaking about the event Andy Murray said:

'He just asked me about what it's been like after Wimbledon. I think he's a big sports fan, he was at the Olympics, he was seen everywhere and I've seen him a couple of times at Wimbledon, so today was nice and it was his first time as well, so a special, special day. I thought he seemed pretty relaxed. He seemed to give everyone a lot of time.'

William and Andy had time to exchange a joke or two during their chat :)

Paul Harrison Twitter Feed

Around twenty-five such ceremonies are held every year at Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Holyrood House or Windsor Castle. The majority are carried out by The Queen but some are carried out by Prince Charles, Princess Anne and now William. It was a historic day for the second-in-line to the throne and the first of many, many investiture ceremonies.

************

Finally, the Palace has announced details regarding Prince George's christening, which will be held at The Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, next Wednesday, October 23rd. The service takes place at 3 p.m. (not 11 a.m. as was previously reported) and will last for 45 minutes. Who are the godparents? Who's on the guest list? Unfortunately we shall have to wait until the day of the christening for that information. The Palace will not be releasing any additional details until then.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

Lovely to see her back and looking as delightful as ever. Been watching the event on TV and she enters into everything with such enthusiasm.
Prince William too did a good job yesterday---looked every bit a future Monarch.
I don't remember hearing about Godparents at previous royal Christenings until the day---but my memory may be faulty!

  5. Great to see Kate back in action today for such a worthwhile cause. She looks very happy and healthy. I am in no way being sarcastic but can someone who is a bit more up to date with fashion tell me whether the slightly too short jeggings and high heels look is in fashion these days? To me, it looks awful but that may just be me being an old fuddy-duddy!

    3. Annie, you're not being a fuddy duddy. The Kate Worshippers will probably pounce all over this but I have never been a fan of the short jeans/high heels look on anyone. It looks awkward and it never flatters any body type. I like pencil or skinny jeans - but when they're the right length. When they're too short, they just look like you shrunk them in the laundry. The wedges always seemed like more of a summer shoe, despite that they are suede.

    4. Actually, this style isn't new. It's just an updated version of the short capris/pants worn by Audrey Hepburn and other ladies during that period. On a woman with the right ankles (which Kate has), this can be a very attractive look.

I think Kate looks lovely and I do echo the other reader's comments - it's great to see her back in action =) As usual our Duchess looked splendid in her outfit - even though she's worn these items before- she always makes them look so good! I admire that she was able to play volleyball in wedges - not sure if I could. And of course I do love the wedges - I would love to own a pair. Do you know if they have stopped making the navy corkswoon wedges??I can't seem to find those anywhere!

Too bad she returned to those wedges... I'm not very fond of them. :(

But, speaking of shoes, I think I have found a great Repli-Kate, Charlotte:

    1. Funny you mention those! Word of warning if anyone is interested...
I ordered them last week as her Charge It boots are absolutely my favorite boot she wears. I went on a long hunt for simple flat suede boots that came up a bit higher in the front. Unfortunately, these came two inches above my knee and crumpled in the back if I tried to bend my leg, so they are currently at the cobbler to shorten the shaft. I am 5'5 with average leg proportions for reference. Most "knee high" boots fit me just right. They should have specified the measurements on the website.
Regardless, I'm really looking forward to getting them back from the cobbler :) Everyone at the shop was complimenting how gorgeous they were so I'm quite excited! Hope they turn out!

  16. Hello!
What an exciting day! I believe many of us were anxiously waiting for this!
The Duchess is a great supporter of the British athletes and a keen sports fan, so I couldn't think of a charity that would be more "Kate" than Sports Aid. I'm pretty sure she will make a huge difference to these young stars.
She looked so at ease! And she is looking great, just as slim as she used to be, and I love to see her face just like it is now, a bit fuller.
    Can't wait for next week!
Hope you have a lovely weekend!
And Charlotte, great post! Thank you!

  17. Given the nature of this organization, I'm perplexed that she didn't bring along a pair of trainers. She must have known there was a chance she'd be asked to participate in some sport, at least briefly.

I like wedges, which add height and also lengthen the legs (important for someone as long-waisted as the Duchess is) but are obviously more appropriate than leather high heels when you're wearing casual clothes. However, these wedges are just a bit much in my opinion. I've never really liked them.

Otherwise, she looks terrific. In great shape.

Good afternoon Lady Charlotte. Hello everyone .

My God the Duchess looks amazing and very beautiful. I love her .

Her outfight is v cool, casual trendy. I dunno bout the wedges tho'. Should've worn addidas trainers if she was gonna have a run around on that surface. She might have twisted her ankle. God forbid. Maybe Gok Wan can sort her out a nice pair of trainers. He's so cool with the ladies.....

Amazing to see prince William at the investitures. They're extremely important. He's definitely becoming the future monarch. Its very clear now. Its so surreal to me still. It's such a big responsibility. We need to give him space and time as a nation to grow into the role. HM Queen God bless is showing us not to worry. The balcony appearance on her coronation anniversary recently show us the future of the monarchy. Its absolutely William and kate with baby George.

I have a feeling their will be an official photo of the christening of 4 monarchs together with baby George in his great grandmothers arms. The same as happened with Queen Victoria many years ago.

Thanks for the great work lady Charlotte. Respect.

It is so nice to see kate glowing and with such a beautiful smile . I can't wait for the christening pictures to see prince George and his 3 months development. Of course the 3 heirs together, history which I'm so proud to be a part of and witness.

Oh my goodness, Kate looks AMAZING!!!! Almost 3 months post delivery and she looks so very healthy and happy!!! Sad that not a little hint was given as to how Prince George is doing/growing, but we will get our sneak peak on christening day next week. I think SportsAid is a great charity for the Duchess to be involved with. She is passionate about sports and has grown up playing sports, so I'm sure she will enjoy being patron and bringing attention to this great cause. She looked like she was having great fun playing volleyball! :)

William did look handsome and regal for his first investiture ceremony. This was his first of many and it looks like he enjoyed it...despite the nerves. Andy Murray looked great. I'm a fan and so very happy for all his success, especially over the past couple years.

I know we are all looking forward to the christening next week. Thanks for yet another great post Charlotte! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! This post was definitely a great start to the weekend for me!!! :)

There would be even more criticism if she were to appear in something new every time she goes out..
This most certainly wasn't an occasion for a designer outfit!
On Wednesday she will be criticized if she wears something new and criticized if she wears something previously worn.

@Jean from Lancs- I think there are people here that it does not to them what the Duchess does it is never going to be good enough. They pick at her hair, the get upset because seh did not wear something new to this past engagement so on and so on.

Then if she did wear something new they would complain that she had spent money when people in England are going hungry so she is danm if she does and danm if she doesn't.

I can just imgine what they are going to say about the Duchess come Wednesday for baby Georges christening. We can wait and see.

  31. What a perfect pairing! I just love that Duchess Kate is able to support organizations like SportsAid and how fun for her to have the opportunity to play with and talk to the young athletes and perhaps (for both parties) to make a lasting, positive impression. I suspect it would have been nice for her to pull back her hair and slip on some trainers, but looking at the greater picture, this engagement was most likely very tightly scheduled and left no time for a 'wardrobe change.' I do also think that she is well aware that the official photos that were taken will be cherished for many years to come by the young athletes (and in a historical context) and perhaps she wanted to stay polished and professional for the photos, as their official patron. Looking at the little picture it may seem like a misfit: high wedge shoes and athletic jumping around, long flowing hair and spiking a volley, but in the bigger picture--wow! she did her best at trying to be both 'athlete' and 'duchess'. Good job, Kate!

Yes, it's a big moment for the athletes, but a stuffy, starched royal would not have had the same impact that Kate had. SHE made their moment today with her enthusiasm and the way she was able to relate to them. That, pardon the pun, is hitting the ball out of the park.

Since when does a title tell someone how to dress? Kate was at a sporting event and if she wore a dress she would be way over dressed. She also seems to me that she try's not to out shine the event she is attending, thus meaning she would not want to dress to the nines for this type of event.

And how does wearing pants & a blazer make her to common? And how is it going to bite her in the butt?

    9. Trixie, I beg to differ. This was a sports setting for goodness sake. What would "bite them in the bum" (and I am making this a general statement about the monarchy) is if they didn't move with the times. That's the key to remaining popular and relevant.

I've seen documentaries that reveal the behind the scenes planning that goes into royal engagements and so many factors are taken into consideration (the setting, the people they will meet, what they will do during the visit, etc). And what the royals wear can obligate other officials to follow their lead which can make it awkward, especially in a situation like this.

I recall photos of Prince Charles visiting flood victims in 2007. He is getting into an inflatable dinghy in his suit (tie, cufflinks and handkerchief included) and polished shoes. And he even proceeded to wear surgical shoe covers when he was in the shelter. I cannot imagine William or Kate following that lead and thank goodness for that.

In this day and age, royals must do more than show up in their Sunday-best and make speeches about the importance of a charity; in settings like this, they will need to be seen as rolling up their sleeves, and it's clear that this young couple gets that.

  33. First of all she looks incredibly well, her body got back to its previous shape, amazing.
On the other hand I can't simply understand that nobody warned her about those wedges and jeans?
She really thought this is appropriate and comfortable thing to wear for a sport event? I can even see her ankle, in the middle of October. I'm stunned and speechless from now on...

  34. Kate looks fabulously fit and so happy. And her figure is amazing. So many new mums will be envious but Kate does have a lot of time, resources and help avalable to her that others don't. Still, she is clearly very disciplined.

Don't like the outfit much though. It's incredible how Kate can jump in those wedges but have never liked them with any outift but particularly not with those tight short jeggings. Although know she worries about the length of her legs to body ratio, she really does look nice in flats.

Her hair has not looked its best lately. Could be partially post pregnancy but don't think this new stylist is doing a good job. Wondered why Kate switched when she seemed to be having such good luck, but looks to me likes she needs to switch again.

I don't believe Kate has alot of help as you say. She has a part time nanny that they use on as need basis. William & Kate do everything for their baby boy like any other parents. They have no live in help as most of the royals have. The onlyperson they have hired is a housekeeper who also does some cooking for them. William does not want live in help 24/7. Remember both William & Kate are very private people and want to keep it that way.

I do agree with you that is is very disciplined and has taken really good care of herself before, during & after her pregancy.

She was just glowing today. Motherhood is sure agreeing with her & William both.

    2. Honestly, Pauline... With all due respect, it drives me crazy that you seem to feel qualified to discuss who works for the DoC, who lives with her or doesn't, who helps her and when, and what they all do in their spare time as if you have some amazing level of personal access to them. You really don't know for a fact what their situation is and I really wish you would stop with all these overbearing declarations.

      Delete
    3. Pauline isn't saying anything here that hasn't appeared in the press -- in the mainstream press, not merely the tabloids. While we may not be certain it's true, I think it's fair to repeat what has been published about the royals, unless it's obvious speculation or likely fabrication concerning very personal matters.

In other words, Pauline isn't claiming to be in possession of some special inside information.

    4. The miminal help may have been the case in Wales but suspect a twenty room apartment requires greater help. But even if Pauline is right and Kate just has a cook/houskeeper and a nanny when she needs one, she still has more help at hand to devote time to herself than the average young mother by far. Delghted she looks so good (except for her hair which needs a bit of help) but young mothers who can't get themselves back into shape that quickly shouldn't feel bad. It's not just good genectics.

Kate was considerably heavier, a robust, athlectic-looking girl when William met her. But the camera adds pounds and pounds and I imaginet she became conscious of how she appeared in print. Wish there was less obsession in the press about raving how wonderful some celebrity looks soon after birth. New mothers have enough to worry about.

@Anon 06:05 I am not saying anything that has not been in the press. If you would just take a few minutes and read some of the royal media postings you would also kknow what I wrote. I am not claiming I know everything, I was just posting what I kow from reading and doing a little research.

Also I Wi9lliam & Kate had hired more staff for their new house you would have heard it in the papers. So far all they are saying is they have a housekeeper and a partime nanny. And William has made a statement that he does not want live in people at this time. He does not want them going in & out at all hours of the day.

So before you start and pull me on the carpet for something I have said, do your research first.

      Delete
    6. Pauline, that is not necessarily true (that we'd hear if WC has hired more staff). The Prince of Wales' website has stated that their household is funded by Charles through the Duchy of Cornwall. The DM had a story last year that they went to a Christmas party for over 20 members of their household staff (link below), which probably wouldn't have hit the news at all if it weren't for her pregnancy and morning sickness.

    7. Pauline Oak Hills20 October 2013 at 20:46

bluhare Well I am going to disagree with you. At the Christmas party I "beleive" most of them that attended were their office staff. They were still living in Angelsey and had no staff except a part time house keeper. And then they did not need a "big" staff for their little cottege on KP property.

And what difference does it make on who is paying for what. William has made a statement in an interview (i am looking for the link) that he does not what a big staff at this time. But he does know that in the future they will need. one.

But we can just sit back and see what the do in the future.

      Delete
    8. Pauline, the link says household staff, not office staff. And, just for argument sake, let's say that it was both office and household staff. If your number is correct (2 household staff, one being part time) then that would mean there are 18 people in their office? I don't think that's correct. At the time, they had not hired a nanny at all, so it would translate to 19 office and one household help.

And it doesn't make a difference if Charles pays for it, other than it allows William and Kate's PR people to say they have only hired two staff. It's a word parsing game. And my last point is they now live in a how many room apartment in KP? They have to have more than one housekeeper. Heck, if I lived in an apartment that big, you can bet I'd have more than one person to help out.

Yes, I'm being picky, but you said to do research, and I did.

      Delete
    9. Betsy from Chicago20 October 2013 at 23:48

It was my understanding that the staff for whom the Christmas party was held are their administrative staff, the people who essentially do their event planning, scheduling and work with their chosen charities, who answer correspondence, etc.. They would include Rebecca Deacon and Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton and others in similar positions. These are the office staff who were housed at St. James's Palace and who now have moved to KP. The office staff are different than and separate from the regular household staff who look after the day-to-day running of the household and care of the family. While major hirings to the household staff are announced, such as the housekeeper and the part-time nanny, not all additions to the household staff are announced publicly, nor are the transfers of staff from other duties at KP to caring for Will and Kate's household at 1A. It's my understanding that there's a "general" staff at KP, butlers, footmen, maids, maintenance people, grounds staff, who are responsible for the housekeeping and maintenance of the ENTIRE palace, including all the separate apartments and residences like Nott Cott. Then each of the palace dwellers has their own staffs that consist of cook, head housekeeper, butler, valet, dresser, etc.

    10. Straight from The British Monarchy website:

"Five Departments make up the Royal Household. These Departments are: the Private Secretary’s Office, the Master of the Household’s Department, the Privy Purse and Treasurer’s Office, the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, and the Royal Collection Department."

    11. @Anon 00:32 & Besty from Chicago Thank you for your response to this little disagreement going on between two people who think they know everything. To be honest with everyone I live in England and I can tell them both that they are incorrect. William & Catherine never had anything more than a part time housekeeper when they were in Angelesey and living in Not. Cot.

As for the staff for KP right now they have the cook/housekeeper which came over from
the Queens staff. William has said that he will not have a valet to help with his dressing. He likes to dress himself. And for Catherine she will not have a lady in waiting. At this moment they have hired a part time nanny for Prince George and will use her on a as needed basis.

William & Catherine will not have has many staff members in their house as Charles & Camilla have. They have around 58 to 60 staff. As William has said before that if he can do it himself that is what he is going to do. Both William & Catherine do not want all diffrent people coming & going from their house. So you will find that they will have a small staff to help them out.

It gets the uterus back in place quicker and of course, your body is delivering calories to a much bigger baby if you keep going for a few months. Also, Kate has that lean figure that will always bounce back and she is active and eats well. I always have to laugh when the media are wondering what 'programme' celebrities are on post pregnancy. I have that constitution myself and 6 months post pregnancy, feeding a big buster of a baby, I was slimmer than I had been since my teens. ( and it was Baby No 3 too!)

  38. Hi, All,
Thanks for the great post, Charlotte!

Kate looks fantastic! I agree she has really bounced back from the pregnancy. But I think anyone who looks at her quick recovery has to take into account the good shape she has always been in-that goes a long way to a fast return to pre-pregnancy form. I think she looks better now than after the wedding. I was looking at some Canadian Tour photos. She looked scrawny then-much too thin.

Too bad she didn't wear the red runners she wore during the Olympics.

She is really on trend with the jeggings. I think she should wear them as so few people can wear them as well as she can.

I think her hair may be suffering from the drop in hormones after delivery. It has that look, as if it were "exhausted".

Just a note of interest-my husband is really involved with the venue in Toronto, Canada which Princess Anne is visiting on the day of Prince George's Christening. She is coming as the Honourary Colonel of the Canadian Signal Corps for a fundraising dinner for Canadian veterans of the Afghan War. This has been arranged for a very long time so the media fuss about Princess Anne not being invited to the Christening is nonsense. The Princess Royal has had this scheduled for months since my husband told me about it long before the summer. He is going to meet her and attend the dinner.

Looking forward to Kate's big events next week. Have a great weekend!

Unfortunately, I'm not going to the dinner. It's wickedly expensive (which will earn a lot of money for the charitable cause-hopefully). My husband has a complementary ticket because of all his involvement and work for various charities so I'll experience it vicariously.

It's quite an accomplishment that both Anne and Zara are such talented athletes.

CF, how exciting for your husband and for you!
All the fuss about Princess Anne made me laugh. First of all, Anne never has seemed to get along very well with Prince Charles, although I believe that William and Zara have always been close (Peter not so much after he sold the wedding photos of Kate and Chelsy dancing). Anne's pithy comment when Prince George was born "It's nothing to do with me," sums up her attitude toward all the fuss being made over Will and Kate and their every move. Anne is one of the hardest-working royals around. She does twice or three times as much work as Will and Kate and gets not even half the credit. So happy your husband will have this incredible experience! Be sure to let us know what he thought of the Princess Royal!!

I love Kate's athleticism, and it is especially apparent in the outfit she wore--playing volleyball in those wedges certainly showed off her musculature, didn't it? Wow. She is one blessed lady to have inherited the genes to snap back to such a fit shape after childbirth too, and of course she did everything to help in terms of a disciplined diet and exercise regimen. I applaud her work with this charity. She seems to give 110% of herself when she is on the job, as she should. Go Kate! Thank you, Charlotte, as always.

I just have one question! Where are the stretch marks?!!! By the way I saw the video on ITN Source which shows Kate's arrival to today's event and I confused Rebecca Deacon for Kate! Rebecca looked very stylish in skinny jeans and a blazer, similar to what Kate wears. Rebecca also appears to be slimmer. Perhaps she is getting ready for her own wedding and/or is a fan and follower of the "Kate Effect"! Rebecca if you are reading this, you go girl!

    2. Hi Blair,

I was thinking the same thing. To me, her face looks a little differant, maybe just the side effects of pregnancy, sleepless nights, moving, etc....

      Delete
    3. Kate appears to be styling her hair different all together. She used to blow it out straight and add a thick curl to the ends with lots of body and movement. Now it looks like she is going for a much more low maintenance style and probably gets it dyed/ glossed less often than before when she was on tour and in the spotlight more often.
I have always personally believed she had an electric perm or permanent wave of some sort added to hold curl and extra body. I also read that she has a natural wave to her hair so I am not sure of course, as I do not know her personally, lol. The electric perm looks like what she has going on right now with the waves but it could be natural as well like I said. It allows you to hold a curl or wave for long periods of time and it allows easy styling without all the need for curling irons or other hot tools.
Her hair is still long, healthy and beautiful. She has taken a break from dyes and shine glosses and that is necessary to grow out your hair. If she were to constantly curl and dye her hair it would burn and fry from too many chemicals. She is super smart to let it rest and grow.

      Delete
    4. I think you guys are right about the hair. It does look different. It's not as full and thick as it used to be in my opinion. It is flatter on top, but I've always heard rumors that Kate has added a Fe hair extensions in to get that fuller look maybe she has stopped now that her hair has grown out. Also I agree with whoever said her face looks a bit different. Either way she still looks wonderful. I just don't see the "original" Kate that I'm used to seeing.

  44. If Kate can't wear these pants then NO ONE can. :)

      The pants . . . oh my.
The shoes . . . no. It's autumn, and shoes like that are more spring/summer.

And her hair doesn't look very good. It's not the dull/listless, but it's those wings on the side. I don't think it flatters her at all, and I think it's a good 3 to 6 inches too long.

Her body looks amazing though. And yes, I'm jealous.

      Delete
    4. royalfan, as Duchess of Cambridge I do expect her to pay attention to her styling. She's had a baby, true, but she doesn't work full time and certainly has time to pay attention to engagement planning, including how she looks. Her entire persona is based on looks and style, given that almost all comments are about exactly that.

      Delete
    5. I totally agree with u bluhare, not much left to talk about just her style, I wonder whether Diana went through a similar phase, although she was a full time royal from the beginning. I hope she will make a difference in the future. Right now I can only see excuses.

      Delete
    6. bluhare, maybe I didn't state it correctly, but my comment about her having a baby 3 months ago wasn't intended as an excuse. Actually, I was trying to point out how good she looks.

Everyone here has their own opinion/preferences and there will always be something we think she could "tweek" (I admit, for me it's the length of her hair and wearing it up vs. not) but just because we express our opinions/preferences doesn't mean that her role is all about her looks and style.

I believe there are three main factors that influence her ...

--doing a good job as a member of the RF and not letting the Queen, Charles or William down
--keeping the emphasis on her charities and *not* putting it on her clothes so that she doesn't tick any of the royals off (which in all honesty is mission impossible...lol...without even trying, she and William are the shining stars. For example, there are 3.5 pages of photos on Getty for this sports engagement vs. 10 photos of Beatrice at Ascot on Saturday.)
--remaining true to herself and being the girl William fell in love with. In Kate, he found a grounded, mature gal who is more than capable of doing "the job", but she isn't letting it go to her head.

That is one heck of a fine line that she has to walk, but IMO she has done an excellent job so far.

      Delete
    7. royalfan, one of my issues with Kate is that she has a huge platform on which to operate yet invariably all we do is talk about her clothes, makeup and hair. There's nothing wrong with talking about that; I love fashion. We talked about that with Diana as well, but I don't think anyone here would argue what an influence she had, and she did it almost out of the gate with much less prep than Kate has had.

      Delete
    8. Issy, thanks, although I don't think royalfan is being rude. We just disagree on this one.

      Delete
    9. bluhare, thank you, because I'm not arguing with you..at all.. :)

Diana was in a different position as wife of the next in line. Kate is one step removed from that. (I would say unfortunately but that's another issue, lol). And I believe that Kate is being given the consideration and support that was denied Diana as she settled into royal life. To her credit, I think the Queen is doing her best to see to it that history doesn't repeat itself.

I also have another theory which some may or may not agree with... I believe that the RF is most anxious to avoid another Diana-type eclipse. William and Kate's star power is amazing and if they were firing on all cylinders, it would make it more difficult for Charles and Camilla as next in line.

I am a huge fan of Kate's recycling the great, classic pieces from her wardrobe. I think it sets a great example of thriftiness in these very tough economic times and it also, in settings like this one (or most settings, actually) helps put people at their ease since Kate is dressed casually and similarly to how they are dressed. That being said, I WISH she would update the skintight jeans and high heels look. The jeans are way too short even for crops, not to mention it's mid-October so it might be time to lay aside the summery cropped jeans for a longer cut. If she wanted to go with a casual look, try a longer pair of just dark denim skinny (not skintight) jeans and some Aquatalia booties. Or if she wanted to stick with the jeans, then put them with trainers, the red pair she wore at the Olympics would have been perfect. Or even a wedge-styled sneaker if she felt she needed the height at the event. She definitely looks happier and more relaxed, less tense and nervous, than she has in YEARS. This look just needs to be updated.

Yes, her shape is great but can we all please remember and have some perspective on the fact that it's her job to look great. I mean, really, that IS her job. She's got plenty of help with the baby, including a nanny, she's got a personal assistant, she and William have a legion of staff who take care of administrative duties, plus the legions of servants at KP who tend to the basic household stuff. She's got access to the best fitness facilities and nutrition and diet plans. Plus, plenty of time to spend concentrating on recovering her pre-baby shape. It always worries me that celebrities are held up as examples of what we all ought to look like. We all probably could - given their time, money and help!! Not criticizing Kate but just pointing out a fact.

So I just read that Cressida was given an invitation to attend Prince George's christening. If she accepts, I wonder if this will be her first time meeting the Queen? Interested to see what the future holds. Will there be another Royal wedding in the near future???

    1. Yes, I saw that too, Kate. I can't help but wonder whether this isn't the same type of speculation that Kate "enjoyed" during her years as William's g/f. Guess we'll see soon enough! :)

  55. Hello Charlotte! :)

Great post as usuall. Can I just make a suggestion? For people like me who visit your website everyday to check for new posts the updates and editing you make on older posts sometimes go unnoticed... I was just casually scrolling down when I realised this post had been edited since the day it was published and there are new photos and info that I hadn't seen before!

Could you perhaps find a way to inform the readers when you edit older posts please? :)

Other than that keep up the excellent work, and thanks a lot!!

    Love from Portugal

  56. Just love Kate! She is very simple when it comes to her choice of clothing, she does not feel the need to impress anyone. What I admire most about Kate is that she takes the opportunity as Dutchess to spend her time wisely by being involved in charities and where her appearances will benefit the charity not herself. So many people judge others and society says how we should look or dress, but you know I think Kate is doing it right...FAMILY FIRST! With her husband by her side and their dates and obvious goal to have another baby, I think they are on the path of a wonderful marriage that they have worked on keeping the negative media out of their lives which allows them to focus on raising a beautiful blessed family. The Castle they live in by the pines gives them the comfort and security of arms men at the Main gate to keep all the negative intrusion of this wicked evil world out! I give Kate a lot of respect because no matter what people say or how they try to tear her down, she always rises to the occasion and has the best interest of her family and that says more than words. Kate if she hasn't shown the world already may be quiet and poise but I guarantee you.... you mess with her head and her family she will still have her self respect and continue to show class, but will make it a point to quietly make her point KNOWN TO ALL! As long as Kate and William stand their ground and stick together through the vows they made they will come out on top. Kate is another Diana, beautiful strong and will protect what is hers! People shouldn't judge her but find something positive that they can do that doesn't include trying to ruin someone else life or their self worth, but find something that makes a difference in the world. I find that miserable people have nothing better to do then speak ill of others, judge them and its all because they want what they don't have and can't have! With that said be well and do something good in this world.<3 Mrs. Boyd xoxoxo
