Prince William Returns To Work, Banana Republic / Issa Collection, 'Diana' Trailer Released + More

Hello Duchess Kate readers,

As expected it's been an incredibly quiet week in terms of royal news. Prince William is reportedly returning to work at RAF Valley, Anglesey on Wednesday following two weeks paternity leave. A temporary air exclusion over the Middleton family home expired on Wednesday, suggesting Kate and George may have joined William on his return to Angelsey. However, it is very much thought among the media that Kate and George have remained in Bucklebury for the time being.

BBC Peter Hunt Twitter Feed

Prince William's return to Anglesey will be short lived as he is expected to leave RAF Valley month. More from The Mirror:

'The family will not be apart for long as William plans to quit his role at RAF Valley on Anglesey next month. An announcement is expected soon about what the Duke of Cambridge's military role will be when he and his young family move into their new home at Apartment 1A Kensington Palace.
William, who received his statutory £137 a week while he was on leave, is likely to rejoin the Household Cavalry Blues and Royals regiment at its Windsor or Knightsbridge barracks.'

William was spotted on a train yesterday and according to The Sun newspaper (with thanks to @RoyalKateDebate) attended the stag weekend of a close friend, thought to be James Meade who is to marry Lady Laura Marsham, daughter of the Earl of Romney. The Cambridges are expected to attend with Prince George.

The much anticipated Banana Republic/Issa collection has arrived (something most of you will already be aware of unless you're living under a rock). The press promotion because of the 'Kate connection' has been enormous.

Banana Republic

There was one dress in particular Kate fans were eager to snap up the alternative to Kate's engagement dress.

British Monarchy Flickr

The Royal Blue Three Quarter Sleeve Wrap Tie Dress. Initially mislabelled as 'turquoise' the dress is in fact royal blue and retails for $130. Due to the demand for this particular garment it appears to be sold out in some sizes already. It also comes in Merlot.

Banana Republic

Fans of Kate's black short-sleeve Issa dress will be pleased to see the collection offers a 'Repli-Kate'.

The Short-Sleeve Pleated Dress also retails for $130 and comes in black, green and blue. The dress features a flattering draped front and an invisible back-zip.

Banana Republic

The collection offers many of Issa's much loved prints and designs. Below we look at the Blue Ceramic Print Wrap-Tie Dress, the Olive Kimono Dress, the Black Printed Wrap-Tie Dress and the Leopard Print Ponte Dress.

Banana Republic

The collection offers a number of $55 Wrap Tops, $69.59 Colourblock Tops and $79.50 Cardigans.

Banana Republic

A selection of accessories are included which would all work very well with any of the items from the clothing range such as the chic Canvas ToteChain Link Bracelet and Animal Print Scarves.

Banana Republic

The range also features Colourful Tights which we see paired with a selection of looks in the collections Lookbook.

Banana Republic

Have many of you ordered pieces from the collection? I ordered the engagement replica in the merlot colourway and I'm most looking forward to seeing what the length is like (I'm 5'9' and hoping it's long enough to look well for evening wear). It's an interesting collaboration that has attracted huge interest. While it is unlikely Kate will wear Issa again, the label is associated with Kate's pre-engagement style and of course - Kate's engagement dress will always be iconic.

The full length trailer of 'Diana' a biopic starring Naomi Watts has been released. The drama focuses on the love affair between the Princess of Wales and heart surgeon Hasnat Kahn, covering the final two years of her life before her tragic death in Paris. I didn't have the opportunity to follow Diana's life, charitable works and style as I was only six when she died but my mother simply adored her, taking the day off from work to watch the royal wedding and vividly recalling the joyous response when Charles and Diana left St. Mary's with Baby William. Indeed, like so many others she recalls exactly where she was when she heard Diana, the People's Princess, had died.

Diana was an iconic figure for a generation and this movie has a huge amount to live up to in terms of expectations. Naomi Watts is a fine actress and I always enjoy watching her movies, but from watching the trailer, I'm not entirely sure about her portrayal of Diana. Her voice and mannerisms don't appear to be very convincing and of course, she looks nothing like Diana. I'm not entirely sure the emphasis on Diana's relationship with Hasnat Khan was the best route to take, as he has chosen not to speak about it: how could the writers hope to convey it with accuracy?

I do plan to see the movie, out of curiosity, but my expectations are not very high. Do you plan to see it? I would love to hear from fans of Diana and what your thoughts are on the plot, cast and film as a whole.

The Cambridge family grace the cover of Hello! Magazine this week. I do like this one, very nice choice of photos.

Finally, we have some wonderful news to share. The Baby Cambridge Fundraiser has reached its goal! I want to thank you all for donating, supporting, sharing links and banners and your very kind comments over the past number of months. We wanted to celebrate the birth of Prince George to bring the royal community together to support East Anglia's Children's Hospices and thanks to your help we achieved our goal!

We have more activities still to come; a quick reminder, our latest charity auction is still ongoing.

We'll be continuing with our 'Kate Loves' posts next and I expect we might see an official portrait from a certain Royal Family next week :) I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Hello Ms. Charlotte- Thank you again for this great post. I have to laugh at the headlines in the Sun. The Great Kate Excape, William is aloud to go to a stag do. I am sure Kate would not keep William from attending his buddies stag party. Isn't Devon the place William and his buddies went surfering last year? And I just read that William has not returned to Anglesey yet. So maybe after the stag do this weekend, William ,Kate & baby George all will return together. It sounds like William only has a few weeks left in the RAF.

I wonder if William will have Kate & baby George on his mind when he is out drinking with his buddies. Hope they have a good time. But I am still surprised William left Kate & baby George to go partying. But this is just me.

Thanks again Ms. Charlotte. Hoep you enjoy your weekend. And a big hello to all my friends.

    2. Pauline :) I'm sure William has Kate and the baby on his mind. I also happen to be a believer in couples needing time for their own interests and even simple alone-time. The bottom line...whatever works for BOTH people within a relationship, and in W&K's case, clearly it does.

Hi royalfan- Yes I agress a couple need there space. And in my comment I did not say William should not go to the stag. I just was thinking out loud and was wondering if he has his wife & baby on his mind while he was drinking. He made the remark last weekend during the polo match that he was not thinking of polo he was thinking of his baby.
Hoep all is well with you my friend.

    4. Agree with Linda. I'd guess William is like any other new father, thinking of his wife and baby but able to concentrate on other things as well and enjoy the stag party for a good friend. Nor is Kate alone or bereft or forgotten or neglected. He's allowed a bit of freedom, he doesn't have to be with Kate 24/7/365. That wouldn't even be healthy for anyone involved in that situation!! Let's take a deep breath and get a dose of reality, shall we?

  3. Great update on the royal comings and goings! Perhaps Kate and Prince George will head to Scotland? I'm not sure she'd like being alone in Anglesey while her other prince is on duty. As to Diana, her magic had a lot to do with the way she tilted her head down and looked up with her eyes, a gesture which was completely charming. She was certainly coming into her own before she died, and perhaps her confidence was growing, but the magically shy look was still there! Not sure Naomi Watts was the right choice.

Hope your enjoying a lovely weekend!
Thank you for this update, Charlotte. You're making this period of no Catherine's appearences much more easy to handle! Can't wait to see the photos of the new Cambridge family!
I agree with Pauline. I wouldn't like to see my husband going out for a stag weekend while I'm home taking care of our son. But I guess I'm old fashioned!
After my own crazyness about the Issa Collection released here (bought 4 dresses :S) I'm glad you're enjoying this great collection! From my own experience, the dresses seemed to be a little short at first, but I'm 5'8' and my sister-in-law is 5'9' and the hemlines were just above our knees. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Can't wait to watch this movie! When Diana passed away I was 9 years old and I remember the time when my mum told me what had happened. She still keeps a magazine about that tragic day. I inherited her love for the BRF!
    Well, I guess that's it!

    Hello, Charlotte,

I am a little more than 3 months younger than Prince William. I remember Diana's death like it was yesterday. I lived in Texas at the time, and my family and I were at a church fair when my mom told me Diana had been killed in a car accident. I immediately broke down. I had started to have crushes on guys the year before, so I had a huge crush on Prince William. He didn't deserve to be without his mom. Later that evening, the footage of Diana and Dodi leaving the hotel was plastered all over the news. The wrecked car stayed on the news for a couple days during the investigation into the accident. It was hard to look at the car. My parents tried to turn the event into a slightly more positive discussion on car safety, and the importance of wearing a seatbelt. The only survivor was wearing his seatbelt. I remember the wonderful people, the tourists and residents in London who came in droves to the Palace. I remember the beautiful flowers flooding Kensington; they were piled so high on the gate, I could not tell if the people had been allowed inside the gate or if the area shown was only outside. We watched flowers pile up on each news broadcast. I remember the boys walking around with their papa and how William leaned in to read a note. My mom and I watched the funeral on TV. It was very very quiet--Prince William and his relatives walking behind his mom's coffin. Suddenly, he didn't look like the hot, dreamy prince I had a crush on. He looked like a shell of a human. I was stunned. I think it hit me so hard in part, because I was pretty much the same age as the prince, and I could not imagine life without my mom--having her taken away suddenly in another country. And that note "Mummy" from Prince Harry was hard to take. I still remember Peter Jennings' voice as he reported. Right before Diana died, her charity work was all over the news. She looked so calm and happy. The magazines and tabloids were all about Diana and Dodi. I don't remember hearing/reading anything about an affair with this heart surgeon. I will not see the movie, Diana. The producers did not ask me, but I would prefer if they focused on another aspect of her life. Diana was larger than life. She grew into an amazing, strong, helpful, kind woman. I still remember when she met Mother Teresa and I thought how amazing that the two greatest humanitarians and most loving people got to meet. I remember taking my brother to see the movie J. Edgar a few years ago. Hoover had an interesting career and accomplished so much during his lifetime, but the movie did not focus on that; rather, Hollywood focused on the possibility that Hoover was gay. The story was not as good; it completely ignored Hoover's work. It was built on speculation and not well thought out. I fear the Diana picture may be the same. It would contribute to her legacy to focus on her charity work and how beautifully she raised her children and confronted her personal struggles. Rather, Hollywood has to dig up dirt that cannot be verified. Unverified material can always be counted on to make for a weak, disappointing film.

    1. I agree that the affair with Hasnat Khan is a stupid storyline for any movie about Diana but I do believe several very, very close friends of Diana's have verified that they were an item. Khan was interviewed by the police after Diana's death and some of the statements from that interview about their relationship have been made public. Nothing incriminating but it does verify the relationship.

I enjoy shopping at BR they have a great selection of classic professional attire. Needless to say I received many emails notifying me of the Issa collaboration. Since I am a card member, I received 35% off my purchase. I bought the Three Quarter Sleeve Wrap Dress in blue and merlot and I also purchased a wrap style top in red. 9. I went to my BR yesterday when it opened and tried the wrap dress in blue, merlot and the black knot front. The blue wrap was the star, by far. I'm also 5' 7'' and the size S fits perfectly. The wrap dress runs slightly large. 2 other women agreed on the sizing. They also left with the blue dress. I was disappointed in the fit of the black dress. I did not find it as flattering to my frame as the wrap. I'm in love with my blue Repli-Kate. I wore it tonight for a special occasion and received many compliments. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy this blog! -Julie

First and most important, CONGRATULATIONS on meeting your BCF goal! That is absolutely fabulous!!! Charlotte, you and the others did a wonderful job and so many will be blessed by your efforts and money raised! Well done!

I hate that William has returned to work, but I guess that's life as we all know. I really hope Kate and George get to join him in Anglesey. The residents of Anglesey seem to leave William and Kate to their life, so maybe she'll be able to take George out and about if they do join William for his last weeks in the RAF. I think it was great he got a weekend out before returning to work. I had a thought....When Harry Meade married Rosie Bradford, we saw the newly engaged Will and Kate (even though we did not know it) enter the church together. At James and Lady Laura's wedding, we'll possibly see the first public outing for Prince George. Just a neat thought. Maybe we'll see a picture or two from the wedding?

The Diana movie...well, I have mixed emotions. I watched the trailer and it doesn't seem convincing. I wondered the same thing about how the relationship with Kahn and Diana when I read an article about the movie a while back. He has never spoken and not much info is known. Who did they get their info from and why focus on only the last two years of her life? I have always wondered if Kahn feels guilty about Diana's death. If he had not ended the relationship, would she have been in Paris with Dodi? Not saying he should feel guilty, just curious. Back to the movie... I think playing Princess Diana would be one of the most difficult roles. Knowing the iconic person she was, I think you have to absolutely get the role right. I think Naomi Watts will face some criticism. I'm not convinced from the trailer, but I will definitely see it.

On Princess Diana, I adored her. She definitely had her problems, but I think she was a beautiful person inside and out. I think she truly had a heart of gold and a gift for loving others. She definitely reformed the Royal family in a most positive way. I admired her for her beauty, fashion, amazing charity work, transparency, and devotion to her boys. I love that both William and Harry have said there is no doubt in their mind that they were both greatly loved and the most important thing in the world to their mother. I miss her. Her life was cut too short and I wonder what path her life would have taken if she were here now. A year out from the divorce and her new life had just begun. So very sad. I remember where I was when I heard she had passed away. We had gone to my grandmother's house for Labor Day weekend. It was just after midnight (6:00 am UK) and it came on the TV. I was in complete shock and disbelief. My first thought was someone had made a grave mistake in their reporting. The world lost an amazing lady!

Charlotte, looking forward to hearing how the Issa dress looks on you! I'm sure you will be gorgeous! 5'9...wow! I haven't looked at the new Banana Republic collection, but will certainly be checking it out!

  12. Hi Charlotte, thank you for another great post. My time went quick for William to return to work I bet in some respects he wishes he didnt have to go. It does make me sad to hear William will be quiting his job with the RAF because I know how much he loves it there in Anglesly and how much he loves his job as a helicopter pilot there but I guess his role now as future king and father has to take precedent. I just feel a little sad about it but am glad for Kate he will be around her more now when she really needs it. Fergie was not awarded that luxury.

I am glad to hear they both will be attending Meade's upcoming wedding. I am so looking forward to the photos.

Regarding that Issa collection as I told you before I bought the royal blue wrap dress and the white printed wrap dress which naomi watts recently wore.

I see you posted about the olive kimono dress on the banana republic canada site they offer one extra dress than the usa site they offer the kimono dress in black!

Regarding the Diana movie I will probably see it out of curiosity on rental. I think it is highly disrespectful to William and Harry and secondly it looks like it was made for TV. I am surprised Naomi would do such a film. She also looks nothing like Diana she lacks her beauty and statuesque height and grace. Naomi is a fine actress but does not embody Diana from the trailers or photos I have seen and to focus on the so called relationship with this Dr and paint him as the love of her life when that is basically just hear say and the woman has gone to the grave is not right. I feel Diana should be allowed to rest in peace now. I wish her brother would have let the royal title of HRH be given back to her as the Queen offered after her death. If he had I think a movie like this would not have been made.

Trying to let the thoughts form in my head.....as for the movie I too will probably watch it at some point out of curiousity. I agree with you Charlotte, Naomi just doesn't cut the cake as Diana. That said I mean nothing against her as an actress, it's just Diana would be a tough act to follow. She was unique and special. I was like your mom, watching all of the Diana moments so it is still a tender sore spot. You are so right about them writing into the script about her romance with the doctor. How on earth can they do that when they kno about it. That would bug me if I was watching the movie. Conjecture.

Anyways love the dresses. I especially think the ad from Banana Republic is cute. Got to love a man in uniform. Always turn some heads.

As for "the Kate escape" I guess saying that, is the magazines way of getting people to purchase their magazine. Simply put I don't think it's a very nice thing to say. Every parent needs a little down time. Maybe they are trying to be funny and I'm not liking the joke.

So happy for the Baby Cambridge fundraiser! !!!!!!!!! So enjoyed watching it grow and grow.

But I'm glad you're fine now and I truly hope you have a speedy recovery.
      Hugs,

  21. Those are beautiful pieces from Banana Republic! Such a shame Kate no longer wears Issa. She looked so good in them. I read somewhere it's because of the Al-Fayed involvement.

Happy for Wills that he is able to get away. I think it's very important that parents get time to themselves every once in a while. James Meade is such a good friend and William deserves the time off. He's been at George's side since he was born. I think too that he hasn't been back to work yet. Next week for sure.

Congratulations on achieving your fundraiser goal. I knew you could do it!

  22. I think it is great William is going to a stag do. Just because you have a baby doesn't mean you have to stop having fun. Kate isn't one to hold her man back and besides, it's not like he is going out to clubs acting single and chatting up girls. He is having fun with his buddies before one of them gets married. Kate is perfectly secure in their relationship and I'm sure she is just fine at home with her family and little George. It will be really wonderful if they do attend the wedding with the little prince, but I doubt it. They might go, but I am sure they are trying to give little George as much privacy as possible while they can. That would cause a media frenzy and take away from their friend's wedding. Something neither of them are likely to want or do on such a special day.

I plan to see the film too. I set my expectations low so I won't be disappointed. I'm interested to see how they pull it off and being the Diana fan I am, I can't not see it. =)

  23. Hello everyone!

I want to answer some of the questions asked in various comments. It has been claimed Kate is 5'10 and having spoken to dozens of people who have met her, the general consensus is between 5'8' and 5'10'.

A temporary air exclusion zone means people cannot fly over the excluded area temporarily. I presume this was done to tighten up security for Prince George.

Will we see Kate in Daniella Helayel's next label? I wouldn't rule it out but I'm not overly optimistic it will happen. In terms of Kate's signature style, there are so many brands she loves now and I imagine ones style in their 30s is different to their 20s.

Thank you for the feedback on the Banana Republic dress, I'm hoping it won't be too short. Also, thank you for your positive feedback on the fundraiser, we are delighted to have reached our goal.

  24. I had to laugh at the slant some of the papers put on William's stag weekend and how Kate gave her "permission" for William to go. Please. This couple is an amazing example of two people who are extremely supportive of one another. If you love and respect one another as much as these two do, and that includes giving each other space to enjoy time apart once in a while, you get it back tenfold.

Regarding the Diana movie...yes, I will watch it out of curiosity. To be honest, I think it's a double-edged sword. While I realize that money is being made off of her memory, at the same time, I believe it's a good thing not to sweep her memory under the rug as I suspect some folks would wish to do. I admired her greatly and I will never forget the day she died. My first thought was that William and Harry lost the sunshine in their lives. And for this reason, I was so happy that William found a girl like Kate. Heck, I was a cheerleader for the match from the beginning. :) There's just a sweetness and a good heart that shines through. I sincerely hope that Harry is equally lucky one day.

As for the material for the movie, I suspect they ran with comments and snippets of information that a few people did share...Diana's friends Rosa Monckton and Lana Marks (Lana spoke VERY highly of William and Kate when the engagement was announced and she made it clear that Diana would absolutely adore her), Mary Robertson who employed Diana as a nanny prior to her engagement to Charles and who is an excellent source regarding Diana's character and her vision for her sons' and the monarchy's future, and of course Paul Burrell who I believe was smitten with Diana, but is not exactly the "best" example of a loyal employee.

And as far as Naomi Watts is concerned, I think she's in a no-win situation because Diana was such a rare gem. Is there ANYONE who could play the role and truly satisfy the audience? I doubt it.

Royalfan, your comment made me a bit sad, but's it is so true about William and Harry losing the sunshine in their lives when their mother died. The sad, lifeless expressions on their faces as they walked behind her coffin are still etched in my memory. I knew how heartbroken I felt, so I couldn't imagine what they were going through and displayed for billions of eyes to see. I wondered if that sunshine would ever return and as you said with Kate it has. I have heard Lana Marks speak of William and Kate and it gives reassurance that Kate is the absolute perfect match for William, his soulmate. :-) I wonder if Diana had been around if an engagement would have come much sooner. I think she would have given Wills a "motherly nudge" that he didn't want to let Kate go...LOL!!! We know William is thankful for his precious wife, and all of us are too!

As far as the movie, I wonder if it will come out who gave interviews or information to the makers/producers? I also wonder how William and Harry feel about it. I agree with you that Naomi Watts is in a no-win situation. As I stated, playing Diana has to be one of the most difficult roles ever. She was iconic and I think one would have to nail the role perfectly. Hard place to be in for anyone.

16 years later and part of me is still in disbelief. **sigh**

    2. Kate, you're sooo right! If Diana was alive, perhaps she *would* have given William a little nudge and said "don't let this one get away!" Funny, I often thought she would have given Harry the exact opposite advice (in the past). LOL.

    4. Sarah, I went to the bookstore to buy a copy of Hello! magazine (with William, Kate and the baby on the cover) and I smiled and sighed when I saw Vogue with Diana on the cover. Suddenly, I found myself thinking how very different things SHOULD have been...for all.

By the way, IMO, OK! magazine had better coverage of W&K when they introduced George to the world. There's one photo of the baby (as William is about to put him in the car) where you can see his face. I think he looks so much like William did as a baby. I cannot wait for the official photos!

    1. @ royal fan

Royal fan, I love this blog and have been following it since it's inception. I particularly love to read your comments as your opinions seem to have researched substance to them and are interestingly put forth. :)

That being said, I don't think I would have wanted my husband to go to a stag thing so soon after the birth of our son. I was really saddened to hear that. William flirted with a girl when they were in Santa Barbara after the polo match. (It's on you tube.) That was not very respectful to his honeymoon bride either IMHO. That made me sad also. So I have my doubts about his propensity at true fidelity even as much as I truly care about him and hope for the best. I fervently pray that William will be faithful to Kate and most times it appears that he will be, there are other times that make me doubt. His courtship of Kate was fraught with inconsistencies in his faithfulness to Kate. And it wasn't like a wedding or dinner, or polo game, it was a stag do. It is a close circle of friends and no news of any indiscretion would surface. I have researched the royals and their aristocratic circles for years and some of the stuff that transpires within their social circles is appalling to say the least. yuck, :( As their leader, and example, I hope William will take the high road and start a new breed of royalty and aristocracy, one with integrity on all bases. And, in all ways, that he and Kate do live out the statement of promise they had read at their wedding. THAT was amazing. With God's they can fulfill those promises.:)

Marci in Salt Lake, I think your idea of the reader's fashion show is so cute. I hope that happens, although it might be alot of work. What fun, and, a good excuse to buy some accessories and clothes. :)

As for the movie, there has been so much jaded media all over the world for so long about Diana and much of it was speculation and the rest was incredibly dirty laundry which was reported from every angle over and over again. Diana will never be forgotten or swept under the rug. Every time the camera photographs Kate, Diana's ring (and sometimes her earrings also), are right there. There is a memorial to her in Hyde Park and on Althorpe, many books have been written about her, her dresses make tours, and she has a living legacy in her sons and now her grandson also. The movie sounds like sleezo speculation and hearsay, just made to make money, and perhaps, even attempting to defame Diana by their efforts. If anything else was going to be done concerning Diana it could be done to focus on her very human attempts to overcome the challenges that she perceived and to focus on her humor, for instance. She had an unusual gift of humor that was always insightful into the needs of those around her and that was an integral part of her charisma. Now, that would honor her and would be a movie worth paying money to the movie maker to see. (no offense to those who choose to see the current production.) Just my opinion.

I am praying that God provides Harry with an exemplary wife like Kate.
He did once (for William), He can do it again (for Harry). :)

Thank you again Charlotte for this fun blog. I agree that it is the best blog so tastefully and lovingly done at all times. :)

Thank you. I enjoyed reading your comment as well. :)

I completely agree with you about the different facets of Diana's legacy. And so much of what the royal family is (and is not) doing today has her fingerprint on it. In the week after her death, one of the (London?) papers had a cartoon image of her looking down at Buckingham Palace and blowing the cobwebs away. Talk about a picture saying a thousand words.

Personally, I was beyond thrilled that William gave Kate Diana's engagement ring. The gesture had so much significance to it...on many levels. (And should I admit to enjoying the thought that it sparkles away as all the royals sit down to enjoy the Christmas turkey? :) Well, I do!)

Regarding the stag weekend, I would not make excuses for bad behavior, but generally speaking I do believe that Kate is *extra* supportive of William. His life was mapped out for him from before he was born and the "job" also includes his personal life/decisions and I think Kate is keenly aware of how suffocating that must be for him at times. It's easy for people to see the wealth and privilege, but there's also so much that WE take for granted on a daily basis that isn't even an option for him.

And you're sooo correct that Charlotte's blog is tasteful and lovingly done. Always.

Another congratulations on reaching the fund-raising goal, Charlotte. Well done! The dresses are very attractive; it would be fun to collect a photo from each person on this blog who buys one and post them as a postscript to the "Kate Loves" section--maybe!

I heard about Diana's death from my husband on that Sunday morning--he showed me the newspaper with the screaming headlines. It was quite a shock, and I was very sad for the boy princes. We watched the funeral on tv. I will not be seeing the movie as it sounds to me as if it will be exploitative and sensationalistic. I wish one of the talented documentary filmmakers working nowadays would do something on her life and works. I would see that.

I hope William enjoys his last weeks with the search and rescue service. I also hope if Kate wants to join him there with George, it will be possible. I imagine the security needs would be daunting--look how crazy the media were just to get the first photo of Lupo. She might end up a prisoner in her cottage, but I hope not. Thank you, Charlotte, as always, for your blog and the classiness that characterizes it.

  27. Think Kate must be about 5'8", certainly not more. Looking at Kate in heels next to Prince Chales and then looking at photos of him next to Diana who was definately 5'10" by all reports, the difference is easy to see. (And Diana most often wore low heels during her marriage.) Kate is much shorter. People shrink slightly as they get older so Charles might be a fraction shorter than he was during the Diana days and Kate is still shorter than he is in heels.

Kate gives the illusion of height because she so frequently wears heels or wedges. She's reasonably tall but no 5'10"

    1. I think she is smaller framed, as are her mother and sister, but I can also see why people got "mean" about her weight. Her already small frame got INCREDIBLY tiny around the time of the wedding and the Canada tour. Looking back at some of those older pictures, like the ones of her shopping on the black Issa, make me cringe - her head looks like it's too big for her body! It's such a relief now to see her looking healthier and happier with a more filled-out face and figure. I can't even imagine the stress and pressure she was under around the wedding and assume that contributed to her extreme weight loss. Maybe now she's simply a lot more comfortable in her role and the attention it brings?

  31. I agree that the movie is very questionable to many. Can you imagine how William and Harry might feel about it? If those young men were allowed to respond to it like they would like, I have a feeling everyone associated with that movie would be running for the hills. :)

I think that William going to that stag do definitely sends the wrong message to many and to any of the "glossy posse" who would be audacious enough to still have any "romantic" intentions toward the future king.

Hello to all myfriends here on this great blog. I want to address a few comments and these are just my opinion and they might be old fashion to some. But I am old...lol

    First:
Anonymous @18:28 I totally agree with you. Some people might not know what goes on during a stage party. And I am not saying these things went on this weeken. But there are women out there who do not care if a man is married or not. They just want to score. And if it could be with a Prince that is even better. And please do not think I am saying this is what happened this time or if William woudl cheat on his wife. I am just saying that things go on during stage party's that a new wife would not want to knkow about or they would not get married to their man. And there are pictures of the last stag do that William attended showing him fliting wih another woman. William himself even stated that he was not sure if he could be faithful to Kate. But let's hope he does not take after his father and grandfather. And tath he can be a faithful husband to Kate. Again I am not saying he has cheated.

@Anonymous 18:01 I was taken back my your comment. Only because I never heard about William flirting with any woman during their stay in California. But I have seen pictures of him flirting with a woman during the last stag do he went to before his baby was born. And he does spend alot of time alone in Anglesey during the Duchess's pregnancy. There again I am not saying he has cheated nor do I believe any of the others here are making that claim. We can only comment on what is shown in pictures. But if you stop and think about it, this weekend was staged in a very small quite city. We will never know what happended. We can only hope these guys had a great time and that they behaved themselves. I believe several of them are married with children. But I do have to say that this Guy Pitty is bad news. If I was Kate I would not want my husband being around this guy.

@Bonnie Rae- I agree with you that every married couple need time to themselves. But going to a stag party when you just had a new baby and your wife is left at home doing all the work while you are out drinking and carrying on is not to fair in my opinion. And I really don't think William asked her permission to go. William is his own man and will do what he wants. Also you made the statement that it is not like he is going out to a bar and acting single. Do you know what can go on during a stag party? And have you seen the photos of the last stag party William attended at a "bar" for five hours. He was seen in photos flirting with another woman and he was really drunk. Now would you want your husband out drinking in a night club/bar with a bunch of your friends flirting with another woman when you are at home very very pregnant? I am prety sure there are bars and night clubs in Devon where this party took place. And like one of the other fans comment was, there are women out there that could carless if a man is married or not. Theyjust want to score and if it could be with a prince that is even better. Now I am not saying this is what happended and that William has ever cheated on Kate but you can not say like is not like he will be going to bars and acting single.

@Ana B- I did get your friends request and excepted youas a friend.

Not a long time ago you envisioned the couple so much in love now because he has a night out, he might be unfaithful. Well if he was that certainly not your or anybody's business. Pauline, as one "older lady" to another ;-) I agree with your standards of fidelity, although to be fair, I think age is not a factor in how a lot of us think about such an important issue. I always look for your comments here on this blog. You add so much of value!

    3. @Anonymous 11:47- Why being so unkind? There is no reason for your type of comment. If you would read the comments these ladies are leaving are not nasty comments. I don't think these ladies need your advice so please keep it to yourself unless they as for it.

Do you even know what goes on a stag do? Well let me tell you as I have said before I live on London and I do know first hand what goes not and sometimes they are not pretty. I will not go on because it is not very nice. So if you do know then it is ok with you for your love one before the biggest day of your life your soon to be husband has been with someone else before your wedding. I would not want to start a marriage that way.

These ladies again are not saying that William has ever cheated on Catherine. They were making comments on photos they have seen and videos viewed. So get off your high horse.

    Hi Everyone!

To Pauline, I think you are right. No woman who knew what happened a stag party really wants to know when they find out. Even though William may have said what he did, I feel he would not cheat since he saw how his family got ripped apart and I think Kate would never tolerate it. She does not seem to be the type- patient but not a doormat. :)
To Charlotte, Like your mom, I remember the wedding and the death of Diana. She was my idol as I grew up for her grace, style and her compassion. While I look forward to seeing the movie, I too wonder how a movie can be made if the two people it is about, are not talking about it. I am hoping to see the Banana Republic line in store tomorrow if it's available and if not, borrow my husband's credit card. Let us know when you get your dress!!!

  38. What a fuss about a stag party! Poor William! Some would not even leave him the benefit of the doubt. What is written in a book is not necessary the truth. And also, that obsession that he could be like Prince Charles or Prince Philip. I think that young couple just demonstrate that that have trust in each other. And no marriage would work without TRUST. Also, we all know that it is now very easy to fake a photo with photoshop etc. Not to speak to those softwares for faking photos on youtube. Here is a link to that:

And I have studied British History and every royal man has cheated at one time or another on his wife. So William come's from a long range of cheaters. We can only hope he will grow up and become a man who loves his wife and treats her with respect and not hopping from bed to bed.

I have no interest in watching this Diana movie. A well-researched documentary, yes, I would definitely watch. This pastiche of fact and fiction, much of which is necessarily "imagined" (AKA, speculative or just plain made up) is, to me, not interesting. And I would think it would be hurtful and upsetting for her family. So I won't watch, although I understand that others feel differently.

Prince William went to a stag party--so what? I cannot think anything would be more upsetting than continuous speculation that one or the other of them was unfaithful. They seem to me to be a remarkably steadfast couple--but I don't know them and nor, I suspect, do any of us, but surely a couple who trust each other will have a much happier time, than constantly suspecting how the other behaves when they are apart.
Let's just enjoy Charlotte's great blogs and leave the conduct of their marriage to the Duke and Duchess.

    Regarding the stag party

#1. My guess is that a stag do is probably not the same as Kate's night out
    with the girl's. really.
#2. Yes, they are themselves. We are all individuals. They, however, are NOT
just anybody. William will be head of the armed forces, head of Church
of England, the opener of Parliment and the only one who can officially
    declare war for the Commonwealth.
#3. Forget about the books and authors' opinions, hearsay or photoshopping
of photos, there are videos on you tube that speak volumes concerning
the party behaviors within William's close social circle. Ugh.
#4. Do I think Kate is a doormat? I do think she has put up with alot from
William over the years. Those things would have dissuaded the majority
continuing their relationship, let alone marriage. I truly hope they
    make that a success.
#5. Monica, I hope your trust will be warranted. Wisdom is known by her
actions. What character should leadership have, or does it even matter?
I say it does. As much as I like William, his past indiscretions are
a matter of history. And in the future, time will tell. I do hope for
    best.

  42. I think people give William far too much credit, regarding his views on fidelity within marriage. Everyone who has
followed the British Royals for any length of time knows that most of the male Windsors have cheated on their
wives, including both Prince Charles and Prince Philip. You know the old saying...the apple doesn't fall far from
    the tree.
I hope that if William IS cheating, and if the press is aware of it, that the press exposes him instead of turning a
blind eye. It might save Kate from years of misery.
I have often wondered if Williams penchant for privacy is nothing but a cover for personal poor behaviour.

    1. Anonymous- I agree with you. I live in London and have all my life. So I have studies British History. There is not one royal who has not cheated on their wives. I was hoping that William would be different but with all the youtube videos out there showing him flirting and other things with other women I don't know how Catherine puts up with it. Unless she has just turned a deaf ear to it. It is so sad for such a beautiful person who loves her husband and then he pulls stuff like this is so sad.

I really thought things would be different when durin gtheir first interview together he said that they will spend the rest of their lives together. And he knows this marriage can not end in divorce. So I hope he get's his act together and becomes a faithful husband and a great father to his son and the other children they will have. And I like the saying the apple does not fall far from the tree. Let's hope this is not true towards William. But time will only tell.

I too hope that if all this is true and the press knows about it they bring it out in the open. I would think if the paps have any photos they would have all ready been out. And I think about all the time he was alone in Anglesey when Catherine was first pregnant. What was he doing? Not working the whole time.

    2. Infidelity may not be unheard of within the royal family, but I do believe that Andrew and Edward cannot be painted with the same brush (I know you didn't suggest that...I'm just saying that there are exceptions). I also doubt that anyone would cover anything up in this day and age...and certainly not for very long. If there was anything significant to print, the press would have done it long ago (otherwise they would not have spent years recycling speculative stories about a couple who seems to be a great match on so many levels).

Personally, I think Kate is understanding and supportive, but in no way is she a doormat. She comes from a happy and secure family and I just cannot imagine her settling and allowing ANY man to make a fool out of her. Crown or no crown.

      Just my opinion...

  43. Well... and the ladies? We all know that Princess Diana was unfaithful either. The Queen is also said to have had her affairs, but very very discreetly, of course! Queen Mom was - according to Lady Campbell - not her official mother's daughter, but the offspring of a consented affair of the Earl. So what? Those circles are the same as a lot of other people in the Kingdom. We just don't know what the Middleton family really is like. Kate knew William long enough before she married him, and who are we to say that she isn't fun-loving like him? It is true that till today women have to care much more for their reputation than men, but behind the blinds...

Personally, I think it is important that the Cambridges are comfortable with each other and accomplish their tasks - the details are to be disregarded, the form is everything. That's their challenge. But it is ordinary people like us who would like them to behave as the projection surface of our own dreams. So let's become sensible.

I wouldn't say that every man in the royal family has cheated on his wife. I think that Edward truly loves and respects his wife and that he is quite enamored of her really. We don't hear of him going to stag dos or see photos or videos of him painting the town, drunk and flirting with whoever happens along. Good for Edward, even better for Sophie and their children.

As for the media withholding any photos or news of any indiscretions, I laugh at that thought. We are talking about news reporters and papparazi, right?
I think what was mentioned by one writer was that William's circle of friends who have been with him most of his life, through Eaton, etc., and would not ever share with the public anything that transpires in their times with William. It is a hard-partying yet discreet crowd.

As far as Kate not allowing herself to be used as a doormat, I have to remind myself when these discussions arise, that although I am very much for her, she was not the one who broke up with William even after many public humiliations because of his dalliances. Yes, William may have needed some extra coddling and reassurance to help him heal from the traumas of his life (we all have empathy for him in those areas along with knowing the pressures of his future destiny) but to continue to condone immature behavior doesn't do anyone any good IMHO. Particularly since he is a future king. The propriety continuing of such adolescent pursuits seems out of place. He has the office of a higher standard. I know that when I heard of him attending the stag do amongst those
boys my confidence in him was not exactly bolstered.

And, at the risk of stepping on some toes, Kate's family does have many endearing qualities. Her parents have a marriage of many years with no news of any infidelities. They have worked hard, been discreet and obviously love and support their children. But their children have had some fairly racy moments in the media also. Not the most admirable IMO. So, perhaps Kate doesn't think that William's amorous inclinations when he is partying are that unusual. They seem to fit right in with the some of the behaviors of her siblings even though it is not clear whether they had "steady" girlfriends or boyfriends when the photos and videos were taken. I noticed that in the photos of Pippa "re-adjusting" her bikini top while on the boat, there was more than one male around who didn't seem to think anything of her sitting casually making those adjustments while topless. It is a different crowd.

William has so many good attributes. I hope he grooms those and weeds out the
other potentially very damaging ones. Quality control. He has a son now and that son will follow in his father's footsteps. Let's hope they are good ones.

    Just my opinion ....... :)

  45. Here's a thought. Picture if you can, Queen Elizabeth, even in her younger days, coming out of Mahiki or Boujis drunk as a skunk and then having the papers the next day publish photos of her very much cuddling with two drunken men, strangers even. And picture her going to a stag do type hen party, not a tea party type hen party but a real stag-do-like party. And, Prince Phillip is at home taking care of baby Charles. Imagine that this is one of just a series of photos and news stories of a drunken Queen Elizabeth out painting the town without her husband. You know she just has to let off some steam, what with the pressures of queenship and all. I mean you understand, don't you? Gee, Phillip is such an understanding guy.

  46. Re: William stag do. I think it is perfectly alright for a new father to go on HIS BEST BUDDY's stag do. (Just like it is perfectly alright for a husband of a pregnant wife to go to his BEST BUDDY's stag do, provided his wife is not in labour at that moment or is ill.) I would bet that William is either the best man or the usher, so critics should give him the benefit of the doubt. He has to be there to support the groom. It's a man thing.

Second, infidelity is not inherited through genes. So the fact that William has a family history of infidelity is truly irrelevant. Some have mentioned William's personality being in high risk of committing infidelity. I do not know William personally so I am unsure. But I think he, like his brother, work hard and play hard. Flirting and being overly friendly is just a fine line apart. Let's not behave like the Daily Mail and speculate without evidence excessively.

Third, DIANA cheated too so stop blaming the Windsor men only.

Fourth, Kate and George are in no way being "abandoned" in Bucklebury because frankly, she is being well looked after by her mother and the best medical care in UK. It is a fact that looking after the baby is best done by the mother. The father can change diapers or carry the baby when he cries. But the mother would always be the main person looking after the baby. The father really has a limited role there.

    * THE KATE ESCAPE
What a silly headline. It really made me laugh.

So, I've read most of the comments... Jeez, I never heard of William being a big flirt. I don't find him attractive at all anymore, and I would hope that his long relationship with Kate + MARRIAGE would turn other ladies off. Still, *some* will do whatever (I still cringe at the fatty in the latest Weiner scandal).

I would hope William is smart enough to know that ALL of his parents troubles originated bc of an unfaithful husband and that he would wish to never, EVER put his wife or his child through anything remotely close to what happened in his family.
Unfortunately, I don't see Kate walking out if anything "ugly" were to happen... I mean, she waited 10 yrs for a proposal, she deserves a happy ending, a happy marriage. I think she would stay and work for the marriage, for her child, bc she obviously wants to be with William (as history has shown) and bc it would be something the whole world would know about, whereas if they decided to privately deal with it... and this is just all crazy speculation :p

    - STAG PARTY
I'm just going to say, I wish he had not gone. I have a few college frinds having babies and I have noticed they become very insecure in terms of looks (with the weight gain, the sleep deprivation, the moods, feeling totally NOT sexy, etc.). This could just be exclusive to *my friends*, but I'm thinking if I'm feeling that way, the last thing I would want is for my husband to be at a party with someone like Shakira & JLO dancing exotically.

I have never been to a party, again, just my crazy imagination, ok?

    - BANANA REPUBLIC/ISSA COLLECTION
I love that promotion poster!!! (with the soldiers in the background).
I hope I have a change to see the items in store (to inspect the quality). They all seem lovely but I will NOT be buying anything. I just don't want to be dressed like everyone else. I think I will see that gorgeous dress everywhere. I have a "famous" bubble necklace (copied off JCrew) and even that one I thought I would no longer be able to use bc I just see it so much... but I just love it too much, as does my hubby...

I'm sad I won't ever see Kate in ISSA again. :( I thought those were her best outfits as a single lady, but like Charlotte said, our style evolves, as do we, so maybe she happily moved on.
[I'm so happy Kate is no longer at that weight from her Canada tour + that black ISSA dress from her shopping trip. That frame/weight is not healthy NOR flattering. I can't understand why Doña Letizia - from Spain- has not been medically attended and I very much dislike that she is a fashion icon]

    - DIANA MOVIE
I always wonder, "what if Princess Diana were alive?"
I will see the movie. I don't think I will give it much weight, but I will be/am curious. However, I will wait until it is out on DVD.
I don't think NW was good for this role, just from the pictures. I just don't know who could have played Diana.
I think Katie Holmes did a great job in the KENNEDY miniseries, but I don't see that with NW.
