Kate's Next Engagement To Be Announced 'In A Matter of Weeks', Latest News & Fashion Updates

While we wait for the much anticipated first official photo of William, Kate and Baby George to be released next week, we have a varied selection of updates to share with you this evening.

There has been much speculation throughout Kate's pregnancy regarding the length of Kate's maternity leave with some news outlets suggesting the Duchess would not be carrying out royal engagements until 2014. However, according to several royal sources this is very much not the case. The Mirror has reported Clarence House has said Kate's next engagement will be announced in "a matter of weeks" suggesting Kate could be planning to return to engagements towards late September.

Prince William will return to engagements on August 14, when he visits the Anglesey Show in North Wales. The showground is very close to William and Kate's Angelsey cottage and will suit William's work schedule at RAF Valley - where he returns to work as a Search and Rescue pilot next week. William will meet local farmers and watch gundog and falconry displays. Show organisers plan to present him with a gift before he leaves. The Duchess is not expected to attend the event.

Meanwhile, William's attendance at Saturday's Audi Polo Challenge at Coworth Park on Saturday has been confirmed.

The Sunday People reports William plans to take Kate and George to visit Diana's ancestral home, Althorp estate, to visit her final resting place. The family are expected to make the trip this autumn and it will also provide an opportunity for the new parents to introduce the baby to Diana's brother Earl Spencer.

Wikipedia

'A royal insider has told how William is adamant that Diana, whose death was 16 years ago next month, will be a part of George's life. He wants his son to know what a special woman the princess was. William and brother Harry, are regular visitors to their beloved mother's grave on a tiny island within the 14,000-acre Althorp estate in Northamptonshire.
'As soon as Kate became pregnant, William knew he wanted to introduce the baby to Diana at the earliest opportunity. He wants it to be a regular thing and will explain to his son what a wonderful woman Diana was. So it will be a hugely poignant moment when Kate and William take little George to visit his grandmother.'

Weeks before William and Kate got married, the couple visited Diana's grave where they laid flowers and paid their respects to Diana. When the couple got engaged he gave Kate his mother's iconic sapphire engagement ring and is now expected to commission royal jeweller Martin Swift to make a new ring for the Duchess to mark the arrival of Prince George.

I have no doubt William wants his son to know all about his late grandmother and to share his childhood memories of his mother with him.

Next, on to fashion and beauty related updates. Kate has made Vanity Fair's best dressed list for the fourth consecutive year. The Duchess has become an international style icon and her classic, elegant approach to dressing along with her understated sense of style has become popular all over the world. I would have been quite surprised had she not made the list. Other royals to make the cut include Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Princess Letizia of Asturias.

Kate's story citation mentions Diana as her style icon.

Vanity Fair

The Duchess of Cambridge is believed to be one of the first women in the world to try a new beauty serum which helps with skin pigmentation, during and after pregnancy. Lancome's DreamTone lotion has been developed over seven years and is in such high demand that Lancome has set up a hotline for women desperate to get hold of it before it goes on sale.

More from the Express:

'DreamTone, which will retail at £69 from August 15 in Selfridges and then from September 1 nationwide, claims to help with pigmentation, age spots and pregnancy-related melasma or skin discolouration. Kate is said to be a fan of Lancome and has been spotted stocking up on the company's products at London department store Peter Jones.'

The lotion comes in three formulas depending on skin colour.

We also look at new handbags and clutches from L.K. Bennett which are very much in-keeping with Kate's style. British actress Rosamund Pike fronted the brand's campaign season and has designed a range of bags.

Below we look at the leather Rosamund Bags in black and forest green.

The Rosie Leather Bag is a sophisticated yet compact piece. The structured bag with grab handles also has a detachable shoulder strap making it wonderfully versatile.

Kate has carried L.K. Bennett's clutches throughout her time as a royal. There are some strong possibilities in stock at the moment including the Frome and Leonie which both come in an array of colours.

I know many of you are Downton Abbey fans, and l must admit I just love the period drama myself. U.K. readers will be interested to hear the drama returns to our screens for its fourth season next month. Mary and Matthew's baby will be named George, the same as William and Kate's little prince. I believe the series will introduce new love interests for Tom Branson and Lady Mary following the deaths of Lady Sybil and Matthew Crawley (why oh why did Dan Stevens have to leave).

Despite favourite cast member departures, I am looking forward to it immensely. For those of you in the U.S., Season 4 will air on PBS  in January.

ITV

William and Kate are huge fans of the show and will most likely be tuning in too! :)

  4. Thank you for all your great posts this week, Charlotte. I'm finally catching up with everything after a five day migraine - ugh!

So excited to see new family photos next week! I think it's wonderful that Kate may be back to royal duties in September. I hope she surprises all the naysayers with some unexpected appearances. :o)

A very touching and poignant story about Diana, and William's determination to tell Prince George all about her. I would imagine that William and Harry miss her every day. <3

I'm not a big purse enthusiast but have to say I really like the L.K. Bennett Frome clutch! And I *really* wish the U.S. got to see the new season of Downton Abbey at the same time the U.K. does! Can't wait till January!

Hello Ms. Charlotte- So nice of you to give us another great update. I am really sorry that the Duchess has to hurry back to work. Her baby is only going to be what maybe a month old. But if she is breatfeeding like people think she is, she can only be gone for maybe an hour or two depending on the distance of the engagement. I read where she has told everyone involved that she & William do not want baby George to have a bottle. So that would mean that she has to be present at all feedings. I wish she could just be a stay at home mom but that is not how the royal family works. Maybe she can just keep the charities she has now 7 or 8 and add no more. She can continue to support William and his charities. We will have to wait and see.

I was wondering that if William is having a special ring made for his Duchess if it will replace her engagement ring. I sure hope not, that ring has such a special meaning to both of them. And I hope we will get to see the beauty if it is true.

Again Ms. Charlotte thanks for this great blog. You are truely a special person to all of us who visit here.

    1. Not to get too personal but could think Duchess could express milk as most working U.S. mothers end up doing. According to reports, William is already gving George a bottle so he is probably being both breast and bottle fed like many babies. Since the Duchess doesn't work daily taking on a reasonable amount of engagements starting in October doesn't seem a great burden. It's part of the job of being royal - many mothers who would like to be stay-at-home have far less time to spend with their babies then the Duchess will because they have to work.

  8. Hello, my friends!
I hope people who think Catherine is work shy give it a second thought. She probably will return to work way before people were expecting her to.
I can't imagine the pain William and Harry must feel whenever they think about their mum. It is good to hear William plans to keep her memories alive.
I love Downton Abbey, one of my favourites shows ever. But I was so disappointed when Matthew died. That scene was so fake... Didn't like it at all!
I miss the opening theme! Brings peace to my heart...
Catherine is the epitome of class and grace! Love her, love her, love her... No surprise to see she's made that list! But don't you think writing that Lady Di is her fashion icon is kind of a cliche?
Charlotte, thank you very much for this update!

  9. Thanks for the update Charlotte! Its been so nice to have regular updates this week to help with the Duchess withdrawls ;-) How exciting that Kate may return to duties so soon! She must be doing really well and feeling great. I'm really looking forward to seeing the little Cambridge family pictures next week!

I'm also a HUGE Downton Abbey fan, and have been since the first episode aired on PBS in January 2011. Waiting full years between the seasons has been very difficult! Only five months or so to go for us in the US...can't wait! :)

  10. Love it that Will and Kate will visit Althorp, and can't wait for George's closeups. Thanks for the update. On the fashion front, Kate carries fabulous clutches, but I find it rather impossible to fit in my sunglasses, wallet, phone, lipstick, hankies and checkbook. Wish I had staff to carry the extra stuff, but for now will stick with larger bags, which I notice the Duchess carries while she is out shopping! Sensible woman, and for the near future she will need a lot more gear for the wee one! Will she have a chic diaper (nappy) bag to delight and encourage all the new moms?

A couple of questions regarding Diana tho:
why is she buried on the island?
    Is it a big island?
Is her grave open to the public or is it private?
Did I read it here but why does William have a icy relationship with his uncle and the Spencer side?
Family is Family and I do hope that the Spencers get to be apart one way or another with Prince Georgie!

    1. She is buried on the island for privacy's sake. It's a small island, and the public cannot actually set foot on it.

William has a good relationship with some of his Spencer relatives, especially his aunt Aunt Sarah Spencer McCorquodale. He and Catherine attended the wedding of Laura Fellowes, the daughter of his other Spencer aunt, Jane, not too long before their engagement, if I am remembering the timing correctly. The Spencers were all invited to his wedding and seated in a special section of their own, near the front of the church. His relationship with his Spencer uncle does not appear to be all that close, but he's been photographed with the Earl's children by his first marriage.

Interesting tidbit of information..... I have never doubted Diana was buried on the small island at Althorp, but I stood next to a couple from Great Brington at Trooping the Colour this year who believe differently. They have a friend who was the lead officer on duty after Diana's death at the church in Great Brington that houses the Spencer family vault. Apparently the church was closed some days after Diana's death and burial. They have been told and believe she is buried in the vault with her beloved father the 8th Earl Spencer. They said it could never be disclosed to the public because the church could never handle the number of visitors that would flock there. Makes sense, but who knows? Just sharing what they told me. I have always wondered how they would keep a casket in the ground on an island surrounded by water. Again, who knows????

Emily, William and Kate also attended the wedding of Emily McCorquodale (daughter of Sarah McCorquodale) in June 2012. As far as Diana's grave, the island is off limits to the public, but there is a lovely exhibition at Althrop that shares about Diana and her life. It will close next year and the contents will be handed over to William and Harry.

    3. @ KATE, Texas

What an interesting conversation you had with that couple. I believe the original plan was to bury Diana with her father but for the sake of security (and William and Harry's privacy) it was decided to bury her on the island. And Diana loved water so it's even more fitting IMO.

Althorp is lovely and I'm sorry the exhibit will close. Personally, I think more people would get to see it if it was at KP. Hopefully, one day will see more than just a few of Diana's gowns there...perhaps when William and Harry have more control over "extended" family matters.

It will be lovely to see Catherine out and about again, but hope she keeps engagements to a minimum at first--after all she will not want to be away from the baby for whole days.
The Rosamund bags seem a good size--clutches would never be big enough for all the junk I put in my bags---OK for the evening when not much is needed.

I am checking your site more than once a day, not only because it is the most informative site covering the Duchess' diary and unexpected appearances but also because your writing is so enjoyable to read! Thank you for your regular work on this blog!
I am also very much looking forward to the official pictures beeing released next week. But I don't think they will photograph at the Middletons home. Anyway, I am curious how George looks like as we only had a glimpse at him yet, and how Kate will look! I am still not used to the sight of William and Kate with a child in their arms. Of course I think they will be great parents, but it is a picture I am not yet familiar with.

I have always been very fond of L.K. Bennett as it made Kate look so classy and elegant. I especially liked the teal Davina dress and the Jude jacket. I was lucky to get the new version of the blazer, the Jetta jacket in teal. But unfortunately I never wore it. If any lady here is intersted in the Jetta Crepe Peplum Jacket, a British size 8, please contact me. I thought it the best to mention it here among the other Duchess of Cambridge fans =) (I hope, Charlotte, it is ok to write about the blazer I would sell. If not, I do apologize and ask you, to delete the last sentences before publishing!)

Has anybody heard something about the Cambridges nex Royal Tour to New Zealand in 2014? Anything confirmed yet? How long in advance are the tours of members of the royal family announced?

    2. I've often thought it was odd that William & Catherine aren't referred to as "Prince & Princess William". I like it better than "Prince William & the Duchess of Cambridge" (and it takes less type. ;o).

      Delete
    3. I read somewhere that Princess William is Kate's rank, but Duchess of Cambridge is her title. Does anyone know what the difference is?

      Delete
    4. The titles "Duke and Duchess of Cambridge" are of higher status than being merely "Prince and Princess William," so they are the ones used officially. The reason is that the ducal title added a peerage to the princely title and meant that William was no longer a commoner. (Yes, a prince can be a commoner. Only the monarch and the peers are not. Peers' children are commoners, too, so William's mother was one.) This is the one instance in which it is better to be a duchess than a princess.

However, Catherine is a royal duchess and thus a princess by marriage, as indicated in her style "Her Royal Highness".

  20. I'd be very wary of believing anything the Mirror had to say. That discussion of William's determination to have Diana be a part of George's life sounds like so much tabloid melodramatics. Best to stay away from those papers.

That coat Rosamund Pike is wearing in the LK Bennett ad -- is it a Bennett piece, too? I've been looking for an ivory/cream coat. Unfortunately, I've not been very impressed with LKB's quality, but I'd like to take a look at that coat, at least.

  22. @ PAULINE

I do not believe that William would ever replace Kate's engagement ring. I think the significance of it means so much to him, and Kate, and he intended for it to remain firmly on her finger. After William was born, Charles gave Diana a heart necklace and I suspect any addition to Kate's jewelry box will be a similar gesture.

And while I don't rely on the Mirror as a reliable source, I do believe it's both logical and reasonable to assume that at some point William and Kate will travel to Althorp, with the baby, to pay their respects.

@Royalfan- I did not think that William and hs Duchess would replace her engagement ring since it means so much to both of them.

But I would love to she her wearing a big diamond. Better then him hving something made I would love for him to give her a piece from his mothers vast collection. But he might want her to hve something special from him that he maybe designed himself or helped with.

And it woudl be nice if he had it made already and she will be weraing it in the photos. We can only help.

Eternity rings are just beautiful. Maybe it will be made with very large diamonds and other stones.

  23. Like all the other lovely people here, I can't wait to see Prince George's photos. I also can't wait to see the Duchess take on her next engagements, though I'm sure her top priority now is looking after her son. It's so sweet that William wants to pass on the memory of Diana to his son. I'm sure the visit to Althorp will be a really special and emotional time for the Cambridge family.

As for Downton Abbey, I just started watching it upon the various positive recommendations I've read everywhere. I'm only on season 2 and I'm afraid to say now I will know what will happen in season 3 unfortunately........I really like Matthew ...lol

I truely believe that Kate and William will be there for their children 100% but as everyone knows balancing baby, husband, life, family, friends, job .............is very tricky business.
I too was hoping she wouldn't make any quick engagements but, on the other hand, it is good for her to be able to break away some if that what she wants. I did the whole stay at home thing and as much as I wouldn't trade it, I do feel a little healthy get away time is good for all.

Too hard to talk about Diana, God rest her soul. So thankful she has a quiet resting place for William,Kate,George, Harry and family to visit.

I know the purses were the highlight here but, I love that white coat!

    Ms. Charlotte
Today I bought a magazine called Historical Collector's Edition Presents Royal Baby. This magazine is only published 12 times a year. As I was reading this I turned a page and guess what I saw, a full page spread on the Baby Cambridge Fund Rasier. What a surpise. These ladies who have spent many hours running this great fund rasier had it show up in a magazine

I have never seen nor heard of this magazine. For anyone who lives in the US, I purchased it at WalMart. Now I don't know if you can find it anywhere else. I have not seen it at Barnes & Noble or seen it on Amazon.

So I want to say to you Charlotte congrats to you and the other ladies for the great work you have done and the amount of money you have rasied already. Keep up the good work.
And to any one of Charlotte's followers that have not donated yet and if you can it is a great charity and one very close to the Duchess's heart. So let's help out. But only if you can.

I think Kate will be the best judge of when she should return to work, but I do hope it's a little later. I hope she has a wonderful time enjoying her precious boy and all the joy he will bring!

I love that a trip to Althorp will be made in the near future. I remember right after the pregnancy announcement was made William and Kate were seen traveling the M1. I thought then they might have gone to share the lovely news with Diana. Hopefully they will go to introduce Prince George to his grandmother. I imagine that July 22 was a very emotional day for William for many reasons, but especially knowing his mother was not there to share in the birth of his first born. I'm sure Catherine has helped heal some of the sadness of the past and George will do the same. Diana would have been a wonderful grandmother!
