Anglesey Engagement, Will Kate Attend? Reiss AW13 + Latest Updates

News has been announced regarding William's final Anglesey engagement before leaving the island next month. On Friday, August 30, the Prince will start the annual 135-mile Ring O' Fire coastal marathon. The event challenges the competitors to circumnavigate the isle. Contrary to rumours, William will not be completing the race, just officially starting it.

Ring O' Fire

The route follows the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path, and runners can expect to encounter a wide variety of terrain, including sandy beaches, cliff top paths, headlands, coves, sandy dunes, farmers' fields and sections of forest and quaint villages. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Snowdonia mountain range, Ring O' Fire offers adventurous runners the chance to challenge their limits in some of the most awe inspiring coastal scenery in Wales.

Ring O' Fire

Kensington Palace said ahead of the engagement:

'His Royal Highness will meet a number of runners and their families and a selection of volunteers involved in the administration of the race before officially starting the Ultra Marathon.'

A summary of the route participants will attempt to complete.

Now on to a question many of you may have been wondering about: will the Duchess make an appearance? I asked royal correspondent Richard Palmer who kindly shared this:

Richard Palmer Twitter Feed

It appears to be somewhat similar to the situation at Garter Day. The Duchess is not expected to attend but in the event she does decide to go on Friday, the Palace don't want to rule it out. Prince George is still a very small baby, so I imagine it will greatly depend on if it fits around his routine (William has mentioned he doesn't sleep much), although I think Kate would like to be there as it's something of a farewell to Anglesey for the couple.

We won't know for sure until Friday; the race begins at 1pm BST.

As we approach autumn, my favourite time of year (although I will dearly miss the bright sunny evenings) primarily because I adore Autumn/Winter fashion. No doubt Kate will be readying her wardrobe of beautiful coats and knee high boots for the coming season and checking out the latest collections from her favourite retailers, most definitely including Reiss.

Reiss

Inspiration for the collection came from an interest in the past paired with a fascination with the future. It takes on a "modern, feminine interpretation of the 1920s and a flirtation with Gatsby-esque decadence but with contemporary overtones". Below we look at the Lavine Black Flower Bodycon Dress, the Mesh Sleeve Calo, the Indigo Angel and the Giselle Check Frill Dress.

Reiss

The collection is very much in keeping with the brand's signature style encompassing sophisticated elegance, perfect for royal engagements. The SmythHepburnTaruca and Agustini are all possibilities for Kate.

Reiss

Subdued colours were chosen for the collection with deep autumnal shades such as berry, cobalt blue and softer shades of rose. There's a variety of textures used as explained in greater detail below.

Reiss

There are several gorgeous new coats on offer too. I've mentioned a couple of hundred times how much I love Kate's coat collection. She always gets it right and teams them with stylish footwear. Two pieces that caught my eye immediately are the Lavinia Textured Fit and Flare Coat and the Board Overcoat.

Reiss
While the Virginia Fit and Flare Coat is quite similar to the Reiss 'Angel' coat Kate wore for St George's Park Opening in October.

The full collection can can be viewed here. Reiss offers free shipping over $300 for US orders and free delivery for all UK orders. What do you think of the collection? I very much expect to see Kate in at least a couple of pieces from the A/W collection later this year.

Next we share a mixed selection of tidbits. A number of readers have been in touch over the past week in relation to a magazine scan which showed an unseen photo of Kate. The lovely Anna from My Small Obsessions discovered it was taken in June 2011, almost two months after the royal wedding (I wouldn't pay any attention to the visible snippet from the Enquirer story).

The Duchess wore her black short sleeve Issa Wrap Dress with a black cardigan and Stuart Weitzman Conchita Sandals (with thanks to Ashley Marie) and she carried her Mulberry bag.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's office has sent thank you notes to every well wisher who wrote to the couple congratulating them on the birth of Prince George. The couple were "most touched" that people took the time to write to them. Did you write to the couple? If so, did you receive a thank you note yet? With many thanks to our reader Lili who shared photos of her note.

One of our lovely readers the talented Sarah recently undertook a project to commemorate the birth of Prince George by creating a souvenir cross stitch chart. Sarah took inspiration from William and Kate's wedding cake box and symbolism from Kate's wedding dress. For those of you interested in some royal stitching you can visit the Etsy Shop.

There are not one but two Baby Cambridge Fundraiser activities underway at the moment. Trisha from A Petite Princess has collaborated with jewellery designer Imogen Sheeran, mother of famous singer Ed Sheeran, and is currently running an Online Shop featuring a selection of Imogen's designs with 40% of the cost of items donated to the fundraiser.

Meanwhile, over at What Kate Wore, Aquatalia have generously donated a pair of their 'Rhumba' boots for an exciting giveaway in aid of the fundraiser. One lucky entrant will win the boots in a new colour - Anthracite.

Finally, Kate's Anglesey shopping trip to Waitrose made the cover of today's Telegraph.

  1. Morning Everyone!

It would be lovely to see Kate on Friday - I am sure she'd love to attend as it's their final engagement on Anglesey but it would be a mean feat to be up ready, dressed and newborn in tow for a set time...only time will tell.

I noticed there was no big box of papers in the trolley - like the T's headline but don't think with such an environmentally friendly grandfather as Charles that they'll be using many disposable nappies. I think they'll be fans of the terry toweling ones.

    Loved the Reiss fashions...

Thank you for another great post - you're spoiling us!

I REALLY hope Kate attends the engagement on Friday, but completely understand if she doesn't. I'm sure it will be a touching time as again William and Kate bid farewell to Anglesey as their home. Can't wait to see Friday's post!

The Reiss collection is beautiful! I especially LOVE the coats! I would love to have Kate's coat collection! Living in south Texas there's really no need to even own a coat, but I have always wanted a coat collection. I love a classy coat! Also really like the berry and cobalt shades for fall. So pretty!

Hoping I get a reply from KP on my congratulations card. We'll see! Thanks for the update Charlotte!

First of all, Kate, I hope you do get a note from KP; that would be wonderful!
Second, to answer your question, Bella:
Except for certain places in the U.S. like New England and the Colorado mountains, for example, the weather is much more mild here than it is in the U.K. (Granted, places like The Dakotas, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin can regularly plunge below 0 degrees Fahrenheit). The U.K. is much further north, so you get hit with bitter cold in winter, but you also stay lighter longer in the summer. In the U.S., it gets dark between 8 and 9 at night in summertime, and the winters are fairly mild in most states, between 40 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Kate from Texas: You'll have to move to New England!! I still miss it and it will always be home. There is nothing like the seasons and the cold crisp air of a New England winter. But we are fine here, too. One day, though, we will probably go back! You'd love it there, if you like coats!!

    4. Melanie, we really have significantly colder winters in much of the United States than you are suggesting. I grew up in Ohio and now live in Illinois. Winter temperatures in the Midwest can easily be just like those in New England and elsewhere on the East Coast, where I lived for many years. Only in southern California did I experience relatively warm winters, and even there they can have winter cold snaps. The weather can grow quite chilly at night. I've needed warm coats everywhere I've lived in the US.

    5. Kristin, San Francisco28 August 2013 19:33

No! No! Kate - you can move to SF - we are known for being colder in July than Chicago is in winter with those gales off the Pacific and without snow!!! I have a friend in The Woodlands - the temps never seem to be below 75(?)...only visit in Jan to Feb...

Thanks Charlotte for the post - I would love, love and still more love to do that walk/run around such a beautiful area...on the way back to the airport I would stop at Reiss and buy my coat!

Do hope to see the Duchess; just maybe they will both run a bit! Prince George can stay warm, and safe at home!

      Have a great day everybody!

    6. Since I live in Chicago and have visited San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest many times (and have lived in Boston and near New York City), I don't think it can be said that San Francisco is known for being colder in July than Chicago is in the winter.

      Not even close.

I know you were being facetious, but perhaps this form of joking is not a good idea. I once had (in the late 1980's/early 1990's) professional colleagues who were told that Italy had tropical weather, which it certainly does not. They arrived in Rome in a typically very cold January and were shocked. As young architecture students on a fellowship, with limited funds, they had to leave before they would have liked to, because they couldn't pay for heating and clothes.

      Delete
    7. Kristin, I live in Chicago. Believe me, you are not colder in July than Chicago is in winter, not remotely. San Francisco's average July temperature is 67F. Chicago's average winter temperature -- let's say, February/March -- is about 32F.

      Delete
    8. I respectfully add that it is a common misconception is that latitude determines temperatures...even though the UK is quite north, the jet stream warmed Atlantic Ocean keeps the temperatures mild. New York and Rome are the same latitude, but do not have the same climate. Things like altitude, humidity, proximity to bodies of water, and weather patterns all determine temperatures. Great blog, keep up the good work. Impressive cross stitch. Appreciated being able to see it.

Bella, I have to say we really "don't have" a winter as you would. Our winters are very mild and typically stay in the 60's. I like the cold, so that's too warm for me...LOL!!! There are times when the temperature will drop really low, but very, very seldom. Our summers are hot, humid, and sometimes brutal. Tomorrow the high here is 98 degrees. Temps in July/August can go up to 108 degrees. Very hot. I'm looking forward to autumn and October when it will just be in the 80's. :-) I would LOVE to visit London in the winter. I've been several times, but only in the summer months. You are welcome to Texas any time to need to warm up!!!

Jane, I would LOVE to live in New England, even for a short time. I have visited many times and it's so pretty! I LOVE that you actually have seasons! My sister and her family lived in DC, so I would visit as much as possible. All my husbands family lives in Pennsylvania, so we visit there too. So very pretty and I LOVE all the history!

Kristin, I would LOVE to see San Francisco too! I was actually born there, but moved to Texas at 6 moths old. My sister was 5 at the time, but she remembers it. I have never been back to visit, but will someday. My mom LOVES California....LOVES. :-) I actually live in The Woodlands and it does get colder than 75, but not too much colder. Last winter was very mild so not too many low temps. I am hoping to have a much colder winter. Sounds funny to some, but I love the cold.

Y'all will probably laugh, but we have dear friends that live in Michigan. I flew up a couple years ago in January to visit and went without a coat. Yes, in northern Michigan in January without a coat. I loved it and I did survive!!!

    10. Kate, & all others too!! Thank you for outing me in the picture re your winter weather! Us Brits love to talk about the weather so I like to know wot u all experience so I can imagine as we blog!! Kate, those summers sound fierce & humidity is not my favourite only for the fact it makes my hair frizz!! Vain! I prefer the drier heats, which generally we don't get here but Europe experience and it's much more comfortable. I love hearing about your Christmases too!! Maybe if charlotte was ok about it we could all write a typical Xmas day piece to share nearer the time? Charlotte I have to thank you for this blog as well as reading about kate it also has provided us with a lovely community to share r lives and hear wot other people do. I have to say I live the idea of the New England winter. I love snow though we don't get much here in uk. Cold wet weather, some sharp frost mornings, luvly. But mostly grey cloud. We came to boston one December and the coldness was fab but it was so bright and sunny. But... A Xmas in a t shirt in Texan winter would be interesting too!!! Have a good day everyone. Thank you charlotte. Bella Wiltshire

Hi y'all weather gals - love reading your comments and Vittoria, I was being facetious about SF/CHI comparisons - I have been there in Jan myself, frozen coming out of the Zoo along the lake...whew! I too hope Kate can join William on Friday but Baby George need's to make it happen...lol He need's to be fed and asleep so mommy & daddy can enjoy a few minutes together to say good bye to the beautiful island they called home for the first years of their marriage.

I didn't think Kate will be wearing Reiss anymore. Because if Dodi's father. But I could be wrong. Kate look's beautiful in anything she wears.

And a shut out to all of my friends here. Hope you all have a great day.

    1. Pauline, it's Issa that Camilla Fayed bought into, not Reiss.

I actually find Reiss's Autumn collection quite dull and uninteresting. It doesn't offer anything particularly imaginative, chic, or elegant. The coats are a real disappointment this year. I bought a Reiss coat last year, but nothing in this year's coat collection captures my attention. I've been looking for an ivory or cream coat, and Reiss is offering one, but the styling is virtually identical to a Reiss coat in fawn that I bought some years ago. I don't want another like it.

    2. Melanie from California28 August 2013 17:15

Camilla Al Fayed, Dodi's sister, is involved with Issa. So that brand is off of Kate's list, but I have not heard anything about Reiss. Mohamed Al-Fayed used to own Harrods, but he sold the store in 2010.

Sarah...I absolutely love your pillow and the polka dots are THE perfect touch. :) I wish I was as talented!

Really as much as I want to see George I hope he stays home (various reasons) but hope Kate can pop out with William.
As for the fashion side of things I checked out the Reiss collection, its okay not particularly my favorite but that might be in part to the dreary winter colors. Don't get tweeked anyone that is just how I feel about dark colors all winter. There are some light colored things in the collection also so check it out if you haven't already. Love the Virginia Fit and Flare Coat especially if it was in the green like Kate's.

Sarah love the pillow, cross stitch is hard on my eyes. You put a lot of love into that.

Not a British thing.... It's just a matter of choice. I have a friend Catherine who goes by Katie, another friend Catherine that goes by Caty, and I am Katherine and go by several names. Some call me Katherine, many call me Katie, my husband and a few others have always called me Kate, and my grandmother Kat. It's a name spelled different ways with nicknames spelled many ways. Again, I think it's just a matter of choice.

Hello, interesting photo of Kate at Waitrose, also the picture of her taken some time ago wearing the black outfit and sandals; the style of the footwear is indeed a different look for her; fascinating to see that. Regarding the 'thank you' card that the Palace sent a reader of this blog; I sent the Royal couple a greetings card with my congratulations on the birth of their son some weeks ago, but have not yet received an acknowledgement.
