Kate Feeling "Really Well", 2014 Tour? + Latest News

It's Day 12 of Royal Baby watch and royal fans and media from all over the world have their eyes firmly fixed on St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, West London. Kate, who is now roughly nine months pregnant, is apparently expecting her first baby within the next few days and is said to be feeling very well; so well in fact, she considered attending last night's gala evening of music and dance at Buckingham Palace as part of the Coronation Festival.

Specially invited guests were treated to a spectacular feast of music, dance and entertainment. Mike, Carole, Pippa and James Middleton were seated in the Royal Box. No doubt they are all eagerly anticipating the arrival of Baby Cambridge. It's lovely to see the Middleton family included in events like the Coronation Festival and last year's Jubilee celebrations.

Also at the Coronation Festival, Charles and Camilla spoke of their anticipation:

Prince William stifled speculation Kate was due earlier this week by agreeing to participate in a charity polo match on Sunday at Cirencester Polo Club in Gloucester. William committed to playing in the Jerudong Trophy match at the Cotswolds and will raise funds for the Prince's patronages Child Bereavement UK and homeless charity Centrepoint.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said:

'The Duke will play at Cirencester on Sunday if he can and obviously he won't if he can't.'

The polo club is almost one hundred miles away from London but I don't believe it is an indication of Kate's due date being later than expected. In the event Kate should go into labour William would be able to return to London within a relatively short time. As a first time father, I'm sure William is excited and nervous and most likely wants to keep busy and of course support his patronages at the annual event.

In other news, it is being reported the couple plan to tour Australia and New Zealand in Spring 2014 with Baby Cambridge. Should the trip go ahead it would mirror one undertaken by Charles and Diana who took William to Australia as a baby in 1983. I just love this photo and should the Cambridges tour go ahead as rumoured I'm sure we can all look forward to some adorable photo opportunities.

Back at St Mary's, things are a little crazy, not least with the arrival of these individuals. I think they're supposed to be dressed up as the royal baby. Not quite sure, but it looks quite weird :)

Sky's Paul Harrison shared a photo of a well wisher who arrived a little too early to congratulate the couple.

Police are carrying out regular security sweeps.

And the sighting of every helicopter within the vicinity of St Mary's is causing pandemonium with false alarms reported on twitter every couple of hours.

I've received a lot of queries asking when official confirmation that the Duchess is in labour will come. Once Kate is settled in the hospital the Palace plan to tell the media and the public Kate is in labour. Below Richard Palmer asks the question: will she be spotted first? Apparently Kate had a check up at St Mary's last Monday and managed to avoid the media glare. I think it entirely possible she will enter the hospital unnoticed.

The Duchess graces the cover of Hello! this week which appropriately reads: "The Time Has Come!"

Finally, the lovely Trisha over at A Petite Princess has set up a store in collaboration with jewellery designer Imogen Sheeran, mother of the immensely talented Ed Sheeran. A selection of Imogen's fun and quirky pieces are available to purchase via Trisha's site with 40% of the proceeds generously donated to the Baby Cambridge Fundraiser.

We'll see you on Sunday to report on William's polo match - if not before! :)

  3. Oh, do you ever sleep? And do all of our comments wake you up? If so, I'm terribly sorry.
I feel for Catherine having the whole world know she is in labor. It is hard enough without the added pressure that must cause. I suppose she knew it was part of the deal when she married William, but I can't help but feel for her. I wish her the very best experience, and a healthy baby, of course.

I am really sorry that the palace plans to notify the press when Kate is settled into the hospital. No doubt, reporters would have figured it out by spotting her or the guards at the door--or something!, but I think the palace should remain mum until the baby is born. I just don't understand what purpose the announcement of her arrival will serve--tamp down excitement and hysteria?? I hardly think so! The world has been waiting a long time for this momentous event and a few more hours without official confirmation won't hurt us!

      Delete
    3. Lynn, there may be two possible reasons for announcing that she's in the hospital. Perhaps they want to do it on their terms rather than have the information leaked. Or it may simply be the historical significance of it.

  4. Those blue and white florals have looked wonderful on ladies of all heights and figure, from the ages of 87 to 29. Love the look for summer. Also prefer a shorter sleeve on Pippa to the elbow length she's favorrd recently. It makes her forearms look quite heavy.
Hang on, all, any day now.

  5. Oh, Charlotte! I feel for you! When the weather is really hot, I can't sleep either... You get sweaty, can't find a comfortable position to fall asleep... I really don't like the Summer. I've read that temperatures hit 30 C in London, but that's quite the average here during the Summer. It gets unbearable at 40 C. Believe me, it feels like you're melting down.

Baby Cambridge is really taking his/her time, isn't he/she? I'm getting more anxious as the days pass by...
I've heard some rumours about an ambulance at the KP, and people also had a photo of it. But I guess it was a false alarm.
Hope you have a terrific weekend, my fellow readers!

Hello Ana B.- I just think Baby Cambridge does not want to come out to all of this media stuff...lol Really I hope the Duchess's doctors do not let her go to long past her due date before they either induce her or do a C SEction if needed. I ber she is ready to pop. Poor girl if it has been really hot. When I was pregnat with both of my boys it was during the summer in California and it was hot. It was not fun...lol

Hope all is well with you my friend. Now let's have a royal baby "girl"

  6. And the wait continues..... I do hope that William doesn't get to play polo this time. :)

I believe that's Sophie's father seated on Carole's right. I often think how unfairly Kate and her family have been criticized when the tide actually began to change with Sophie and Edward's relationship.

I really like Pippa's dress. She looks great when she keeps it simple, IMO.

And I LOVE the cover of Hello! A bit funny that only Camilla's hat is visible in the background. There's something a bit symbolic about that! LOL.

Thank you Ms. Charlotte for another great post. Is it true if you know that William is on leave now? I wonder also if his duchess has the baby on Saterday if he will still go and play polo? I am sitting here in California on pins & needles like the rest of the world. I remember when William was born. And now he is going to have his own baby boy or girl. I am hoping he get's his baby girl.

I hope you are getting enough rest. I know what you mean by trying to sleep when it is hot. It has been around 107 here so it has been warm.
Well have a good weekend. And hopefully we will have a Baby Cambridege sometime this weekend.

  9. looking at her current situation, i think it's possible for her to go past her due date which will result her to be induced for labour to start. i would recommend her to ask for an epidural after 5cm dilation. induced contractions are normally tougher than normal ones.

Hi Charlotte sorry to hear you are having such warm weather. It finally stopped raining to have the sun out yeah! Looks like next week will be warm with more rain! I am glad the Palace is going to tell the media when Kate is in labor. Our thoughts and prayers can go out to her and William and it would be fun to guess how long the wait from the time she is in hospital until we hear the news. Kate is still planning a natural childbirth with no epidural? Do you know if she will bottle or brest feed Charlotte? Just wondering. Thank you again for the wonderful post. One more quick question the items on zazzle the site that carries the Royal Baby Mug for charity how long will those items be available? Do I have at least until August or September to purchase? I am a teacher and on summer break money is getting tight and I didn't want to miss out. Hugs from Indiana Robin

  16. My guesses for the baby's name: Alexandra Elizabeth Victoria Mary or
Adelaide Alexandra Elizabeth Mary (and they'll call her Adele). It would be fitting seeing as Kate and William are touring Australia in 2014. They can visit the city of Adelaide with their new little girl. Just my guess though!

Hi Ms. Charlotte- Let's hope his Duchess has their baby this weekend. She has got to be very uncomfortable by now. I hope if she does not have the baby this weekend, that her doctors will either induce her or if need be do a C Section. But again we really don't know her true due date. I would think since William is now on leave that it has to be in teh next few days if not today.

Thanks again for all your hard work keeping us all up to date.

    3. Catherine had a check- up Monday so I am betting the doctor told her it would be several more days. The "due date" is never exact anyway, and no official announcement was made, was it? All depends on how big that baby is getting. Glad to hear she feels well and looking forward to the first photos of your future monarch! The 18th is Nelson Mandela's birthday, that would be grand.

For the most part you can keep doing what you have been doing when pregnant. The key is what you have been doing.

    4. Hello Royalfan
I agree - caution & common sense is lost on the young sometimes. I've been dragged by a horse, somehow remained on another horse spooked by something unseen, bike accidents & diving board accidents - been there & done that, still intact - I would tell Zara that every single horse in the barn will be still there when baby arrives. She has her life in her hands. No need to be willingly reckless.
I am fortunate to be in one piece, still functioning on my own.

    5. My mother was born (in 1922) after her mother was thrown from a horse during a riding competition and no complications except, strangely, my mother had a lifelong fear of horses! Very disappointing to my grandmother but one wonders what babies sense in the womb.

Just saw Kate's portrait in London, much better than it looks in photos but still not a favorite of mine.

For those going to be in London Kensington Palace has an exhibit of royal clothes of the Queen, Princess Margaret and Princess Diana. Very interesting. People still seem drawn most of all to the large photo of Diana; she really had something magnetic about her.

Hi Sarah and royalfan the problem starts when you try to do something totally different that could lead to big trouble. Remember when everyone was having a fit because the Duchess kept wearing high heels. She did a great job 9 mo pregnant and still wearing heels! Now if I would of tried doing that I would of fallen down. Just keep your normal schedule within reason Zara should be fine so excited fo her also.

      Delete
    7. Not really a nice comparison wearing high heels to riding a horse during pregnancy. But I agree with you, Zara should know better. Her life, her choice, nobody to blame if anything goes wrong, I'm afraid.

      Delete
    8. @ KRISTIN -- SAN FRANCISCO

Considering everything you've experienced, you are one lucky lady. :)

And I like the way you put that..."every single horse in the barn will still be there when baby arrives." I have never ridden, but I can appreciate having a passion for *something*. I just think that pregnancy is when you start to put the baby's welfare first. Even something as "simple" as a broken arm would become complicated if it meant x-rays, etc. Call me crazy, but better safe than sorry.

      Delete
    9. I also think that there is a big difference between wearing high heels and riding a horse. First of all, Kate is used to wearing high heels and has a lot of practice in doing so... therefore the chance of her tripping is minimal. While Zara is certainly a good rider, when riding you also depend on the horse to a large extent, and you can never fully predict the behavior of an animal... it might get frightened etc.
And then there is the huge difference between the effect that tripping would have and that of falling from the back of a horse.

I certainly wouldn't do it but it is, of course, her very own choice.

  20. CP and Kathy - Thank you for alerting me to an inappropriate comment, I have removed it. William is very much devoted to his work as patron of Tusk Trust, it's one of the organisations he supports most and that is the only reason he was in attendance today. Also the location is not too far from Bucklebury, where it ha been confirmed Kate is staying with her parents so William obviously joined Kate afterwards.

  25. Lovely post, Charlotte. I thought the concert picture was great; everybody at their attractive best. If Catherine had been up to it, it would have been the icing on the cake to have seen her too, but she seems to make wise choices. I hope that notifying the media of her condition doesn't cause her more stress when the time comes. I am inclined to think that her mother probably made the most accurate prediction, if the report of her saying the baby would be a Leo is correct--because mothers do seem to know these things if they are as close as apparently Carole Middleton is to her children, don't you think? I am so sorry England is unusually hot now! We are used to it here in the desert, but it is dry heat and not as hard to bear as humid heat. Sigh! One year ago ago we were staying in Bath and having a perfectly gorgeous time.

  29. Interesting that so many people think "James" should be the name for a boy. Not only was the last King James run off the throne, but it's also the name of Prince Edward's son, James, Viscount Severn. I really doubt they'll choose the name of a living British royal, with the exception of "Elizabeth". That also excludes "Alexandra".

The only potential issue with Victoria is that it is the name of the Swedish heir to the throne. She's already in her 30's, of course, but "Victoria" would raise the prospect of two queens regnant in Europe with that name.
