Latest Kate News, Pippa's Vanity Fair Style, Princess Madeleine Gets Married + More

Hello Duchess Kate readers, I hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

Despite media reports regarding William and Kate's attendance at two weddings this weekend it appears the Cambridges were neither present at the wedding of Kate's ex-boyfriend Rupert Finch, who tied the knot with Beulah designer Natasha Rufus Isaacs, nor the wedding of William's close pal Peregrine Hood who married Vogue editor Serena Nikkah in Wiltshire today. I thought we would see Kate at Rupert Finch's wedding but surprisingly not. Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry's girlfriend Cressida Bonas were in attendance.

Natasha looked beautiful in a Beulah wedding gown.

Royal photographer Mark Stewart shared this via Twitter yesterday:

Kate and Lupo were spotted travelling by train on Thursday by excited tweeter Lee Nelson who shared a (very, very blurry) photo of the Duchess and her dog.

In other news, there are reports Trooping The Colour on June 15th will be Kate's last official appearance meaning the Duchess will not be attending the Order of the Garter ceremonies on June 17th. As the two events are within two days of each other I find it unlikely Kate won't attend but a couple of the royal correspondents do believe it to be the case.

Kate's younger sister Pippa Middleton has landed a plum job as a contributing editor for Vanity Fair. The 'Celebrate' author wrote about Wimbledon for her first column and her love of tennis, revealing she first went to Wimbledon at eight years old and was, by then, already a keen tennis player.

Vanity Fair

Pippa recalls queueing with Kate for tennis tickets:

'I queued from 5 a.m. on People's Sunday in 2004 with my sister for three hours and getting £35 tickets on centre court. Seats were a free-for-all and I recall almost tripping over myself to get as close as possible to my birthday twin - British hero Tim Henman.'

We rarely include Pippa on the blog but I chose to include this segment because so many of you were in touch asking about the 29-year-old's sartorial choices in the photo shoot. The amazing Pippa Middleton's Style identified Pippa's looks immediately.

Below we see Pippa looking very glamorous in the Valentino Embroidered Dress With Cut-Out Detail. The dress features a concealed snapped placket, side slit pockets, transparent lining and is 100% cotton. The piece is available at My Theresa.

The other white dress which proved popular is by French brand Courrèges. The Robe 100 dress is available in a variety of colours for $1600. Other pieces from the brand can be purchased at Farfetch.

Did any of you read Pippa's article? If so, did you enjoy it?

While William and Kate may not have attended a wedding today, one very special royal wedding took place today. Sweden's Princess Madeleine married Christopher O Neill in Stockholm this afternoon. The bride looked simply stunning in a Valentino gown.

A sketch of the gown.

More on Princess Madeleine's dress from the official press release:

'The wedding dress is made from pleated silk organza and appliqued ivory-coloured chantilly lace. The upper section of the bodice is lace with a deep-cut back. Narrow vertical pleats open up from the accentuated waist, above the wide skirt, which ends with a four-metre-long train.'

The couple looked very happy and very much in love.

Interestingly, Christopher O'Neill declined a Swedish title and will return to America where he works at an investment banking firm while Madeleine will work at the World Childhood Foundation (apologies for the off-topic nature of today's post, but we do love a royal wedding :)).

  1. I was all excited to see Kate today and if my prediction of a repeat of Tuesday's outfit would be realised - I guess not!

I wonder where the train was going??

Madeline's wedding was lovely (although there was some cringe worthy solo singing imho) Sophie did us proud, Charlene ??? Sorry but no tiara and no ribbon across her outfit etc. she doesn't 'get' being royal! The star of the show was Princess Estelle - WHAT A CUTIE!!

    Thanks for the latest news!

Thanks for the news---probably Prince William was on duty this weekend-as he had the Coronation Service last week and he will need to be off for the Trooping the Colour and possibly the Garter ceremony too.
Watched the wedding on internet---was disappointed with the dress when she came in--it looked a little too tight and didn't like the frill---but the back view was lovely.
Sophie looked great in pale pink with the five aquamarine tiara and Edward in uniform.
Princess Estelle was very good sitting on her own little chair--seemed a little unnatural for a baby of 15 months or so, they usually want to run about.
Was Catherine going to Anglesey on the train?

    1. Hello Jean, Kate got off at Chester apparently. There hasn't been any sightings since and tweets are coming in confirming they didn't attend the weddings.

Jean, thinking maybe you're right with William being on duty. Speaking of, why hasn't their been any announcement about his future in the military? Isn't his tour with the RAF over in September? I wonder with Prince Phillip's health not being so good if that will affect William's future and possibly lead him in to full time Royal duties?

Penelope, so sad you missed seeing Kate. How cool would that be to run in to her! Hopefully another time soon! Charlotte, any word why Kate didn't attend either wedding? Think because she'll have a busy week coming up?

  3. Great post! Man Pippa's arms are toned! If I had Kate's legs and Pippa's arms I would be really happy! But think of all the hours I would have to work out! Uggg....
I just brought Us magazine Collectors Edition, Raising a Royal Baby. I must say that I'm loving all of the pictures in it :-) Catherine is a gorgeous Lady. She just has a pretty pregnancy glow.

  4. I thought Princess Madeline looked beautiful and very happy. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that the European royals vs. the British Royals seem more more willing to show affection in public. I thought it was lovely how Madeline's husband took her hand and kissed it as she met him at the alter. W&K are barely ever even seen holding hands...sometimes you need to let go of that stiff British reserve that they have :)

    1. Remember Madeline's husband is American. I think it's lovely that Mr. O'Neill showed his love and affection by doing that, but your right when you say stiff British reserve. I am not doubting their love at all, but William and Catherine really don't show public affection. Because they are Royals? Is it the stiff British reserve?

    2. The two Swedish weddings (Victoria's & Madeleine's) are my favorite royal weddings for that exact reason- at both, the bride and groom were clearly head over heels and proud to show that to their friends and families. Both grooms cried and it was lovely to see such love and emotion. I think both princesses looked absolutely gorgeous on their big day. Congrats to Princess Madeleine & Christopher!

    3. Christopher O'Neill is the British born son of an Austrian mother and British father. So there are some Brits who don't mind PDA. Maybe it's living in America that makes him show emotion in public.

I don't think there is any shortage of affection between William and Catherine, they held hands and kissed each other at their wedding.
You make it sound as though there is some sort of competition.

I agree with you Jean. People don't understand the William & Catherine are both very private people. During the Olympics last summer you saw alot of them holding hands or having a hand on a leg etc. William does put his arm around her or has his hand on her back. I think they also show their love for each other by just the look's they give each other. That is their way of showing there love in public. I just love the way Catherine look's at William and you can see the love she has for him in her eyes. And the way William look's at her you can just tell how much he loves her.
YOU don't always have to be holding hands etc.. to know some couple are in love.

Jean I agree William and Catherine showed a lot of deep love at their wedding. Remember when William told Catherine during the ceremony " You look beautiful". I call that a jester of love.

    3. I am amazed by the readers who can interpreted looks and tell us how they feel

Some readers observations about outward shows of affection are just that observations and do not need a response of interpretations offered in refute.

I feel they are a couple in love but have nothing to offer to support my observation
Kim K is tweeting about the love of her life but he had the birthday party in another city where she could not attend. Now that shows questionable affection

  7. I feel like Kate's in hiding. She should be so proud and showing off her baby... IDK, I feel like she doesn't want to share with other people and have a feeling we wont see much of this baby once it's born ether. I was looking forward to all the maternity clothing and we've only had a dozen or so, most of them repeats because she is carrying so small and can still fit.

    1. I feel like it's her body and baby and she shouldn't feel obligated to do anything she doesn't feel up to, or doesn't feel right. Who knows, she may still be feeling unwell...

I don;t think the Duchess is in hiding. She is 8 months pregnant and is getting two houses ready to move into. I am very sure she is proud of her baby bump but she does not have to be put in public showing it off just to please us.

Yes we will not be seeing much of her or the baby when it is born. When William was born you saw him when they left the hospital and then again when he was 8 months old on tour with his parents. I am sure we will see pictures of the baby's christening. And there is nothign wrong with them getting the baby out of the media attention. William is very protectiveo of his Duchess & will be with his baby.

  8. I was looking at the pics of the Swedish wedding on daily mail. What do the blue sashes that most of the men and women are wearing signify?

    Canada

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They were wearing the order of their respective country :
for example : prince Niklos of Greece was wearing the Order of the Redeemer (Greek decoration)
The count of Wessex was wearing the Order of the Garter, the countess Sophie, Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order
      and so on ...

      Delete
    2. There's quite a lot of etiquette etc. attached to the sashes and I don't claim to be an expert but they are, generally speaking, part of the insignia that comes with membership in an order of chivalry/merit. There are lots of rules as to who can have it bestowed on them, for what and where they can wear it etc. I think each 'House' has their own - you saw quite a lot at the recent Dutch Coronation.

Whilst they generally look nice they can sometimes ruin an outfit!

  9. Thank you for your wonderful post. I'm disappointed they did not go to any weddings, but it may have been the best choice since it would have been difficult to choose one without without hurting the feelings of the others. I appreciate you covering Pippa. She has great style. Even though Kate is my favorite, I have always loved Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Do you know of any blogs that regularly cover her style?

  10. Thanks for including Pippa's style and the other Royal Wedding in Sweden. I so enjoy your blog that I shall miss it very much when Kate is on maternity leave. I tend to agree a little with anonymous above me that Kate seems to be a wee bit in hiding. Personally I was delighted to show off my " bumps' when I had them - and I was quite able to work very close to delivery. I shall miss Kate very much!
Thanks for all the work that you do!

  11. I really enjoyed watching today's wedding. Not at all surprised, but what a beautiful bride! Madeleine is a very pretty young lady. And it was sweet to see the groom become emotional as she walked down the aisle towards him.

I thought the groom's mother won first prize for best dressed wedding guest. She was beyond classy and elegant.

Estelle was a cutie and so well behaved. Clearly a little princess in training. :) I wish the British royals would include the little ones at family events.

And I thought Charlene picked the wrong time to leave a "nude" gown at home. Lol. Also, chandelier earrings would have been nice with the short hair and no tiara.

  12. The photo of Kate shopping for fabric would suggest that William is working and they decided to spend a normal, quiet weekend tending to private business in between the service at the Abbey and Trooping of the Colour.

By the way, could the Daily Star have added any more "syrup" to that quote? LOL. Amazing how much fuss can be created in print compared to what (I believe) Kate would ever expect as a customer.

  13. How interesting that Princess Madelyn and Christopher both have wedding rings, I seem to recall that Royals don't exchange rings, just the bride wears one but then Christopher is not Royal is he. They looked amazing- both of them.

  15. The pictures of Pippa are interesting,, I wonder if it was a VF photographer that took them,,I like the picture of her in the white dress on the bicycle, she looks so much like Kate in that picture,,,the Swedish wedding was simply awesome,,I agree about the stiff British reserve,, I was comparing W&Ks wedding to the Swedish and the Denmark weddings, and I agree, the Europeans are far more relaxed when it comes to showing their emotions in public. Looking forward to June 13,,Kate's next engagement,,thanks chica for this fabulous post!!xoxo

Thanks for the great post! I love seeing the wedding dresses! I especially loved Madeline's dress....so beautiful!!! Wonder where Kate was headed? Maybe back to Anglesey? I couldn't believe anyone snapped a picture, blurry or not. I think I would be too nervous with protection officers around.

Pippa.....LOVE! She looks so beautiful and fresh in the tennis pic from the magazine. People can say what they want and criticize, but I think Pippa is smart, classy, and discreet. Definitely the type of sister I would want if I was going to be queen one day . :) She looks beautiful in the magazine shots. Best of luck to her in her new VF job!

Thanks for the post Charlotte! 4 days and I'll be in London! SO excited!!!

Hello Charlotte, wonderful job. I am wondering if our Duchess due date is correct. With 2 special outings taking place and she is only going to be present for the first one, something does not feel right. Maybe I am reading more into this than should. She basically is carrying all baby for the Duchess has gained little weight.

    1. Robin, I had that same thought too. She seems to have put on quite a bit of weight in these last couple of weeks, more than she has the entire pregnancy (or at least the baby has grown quite a bit). Certainly no expert but just by looking at her, I'd guess the due date somewhere closer to the first part of July rather than mid-July. She was hospitalized the first week in December, so that would put her at approximately a month, give or take, then, making conception in early November, which would then mean a late June/early July due date. As you mentioned, no public appearances after the middle of June would seem to indicate an earlier due date too.

  18. Very great post I could care less about Pippa but I adore Princess Madeleine! She looked gorgeous and I wish her the best after her romantic disappointment from her first failed engagement.

She truly was a stunning and happy bride. I pray she is happy with Christopher for eternity!

  19. Interesting that William at least didn't attend either society wedding, I thought it was mentioned in earlier posts, including ones here, that he was in one or both weddings. Much has been made about William and Kate staying out of sight and shunning public appearances. It's very clear that William doesn't like the public or the media and he doesn't like public appearances, while Kate seems to be more natural, though still tentative in some situations. Let's face it, the queen is not getting any younger and with Prince Phillip in seemingly precarious health of late, it's a matter of time before William's and Kate's public workloads become MUCH heavier, whether they want them to or not. I'd guess they're trying to take advantage of every moment out of the spotlight now.
