Updated: Kate Shops at Bernard Thorp in Summery Blue Dress

Some readers were disappointed William and Kate didn't attend their friends' weddings today, however new photos of the Duchess will appear in tomorrow's Daily Star Sunday.

Daily Star Sunday

A look inside the paper.

Daily Star/What Kate Wore Facebook

The candid photos show Kate out and about in London last Tuesday, shopping at Chelsea based fabric printing company Bernard Thorp. The Duchess spent time browsing before choosing beige and brown handmade fabrics that cost £131.76 per metre and purchased cream and light brown herring-bone curtains stripe for the curtains in a corridor.

For a sofa the Duchess opted for a darker beige and terracotta herring-bone design. According to an insider Kate is busy decorating two places in Apartment 1A, Kensington Palace before the arrival of the royal baby.

Kate and a friend spent forty minutes at the exclusive store which is located just off Kings Road.

More from the Daily Star article:

'As temperatures soared outside, she had to take it easy indoors. Kind staff came to her and sat her down a cooling glass of water. "Kate was fascinated by all the designs and picked out two", said an insider.
"She had very definite ideas about what she liked. It was boiling hot outside so the door was open to cool down but she was feeling hot so we sat her down with a glass of water. She was so charming and lovely. She didn't put on any airs or graces".'

More photos are available at the Daily Mail.

Kate looked summery in a blue maternity dress. The talented ladies over at What Kate Wore quickly identified it as the blue Asos Maternity Belted Dress. It is made from a breathable, soft jersey fabric and originally retailed for €33 but is now sold out.

Asos Maternity

The dress comes is still available on the Asos website in a number of colourways including black and white printgreen and white.

Asos Maternity

A nice non-maternity alternative to Kate's dress is the Shirred Neck Tie Waist Dress by Loft. The drapey style is a pretty piece with a scoop neck and comes in petite, regular and tall. It's available in blue, black and plum for €55.

Loft

Kate teamed the dress with a purple cardigan also worn by Pippa (with many thanks to Ashley Marie and Sophie from WKW FB). Below we see Pippa Middleton wearing the cardigan at The Goring Hotel in 2011. Perhaps Pippa gave it to Kate? or they purchased one each? I love that they share clothes not only with each other but their mother, Carole.

The Duchess completed the look with her comfortable Pied A Terre Imperia Wedges.

Pied A Terre

One of the few maternity looks we've seen the Duchess wear and I thought it a lovely choice for the season. To read today's earlier post which includes the latest news and the Swedish royal wedding click here :)

Good morning Charlotte! I didn't see my posts in the last blog posting, so hopefully they came through. I love Kate's outfit! It looks so summery and fun! The bright colors look great on her! She can really wear such an array of colors that all look great on her. :)

I got a good giggle when I read the article from the Daily Star about "temperatures soaring" and "boiling hot outside". Definitely not laughing for Kate's sake, but what were the temperatures? It will get to 100 degrees F (38 C) here this week and the summer has barely started. Typical Texas weather and too hot for my liking. I am looking forward to coming to London to cool down!

Hope your Sunday is starting off great! I'm heading to bed to get a little sleep before the kiddos are up bright and early!

    1. I think one problem is (at least here in Dallas) most public spaces and stores have excellent A/Cs (even requiring a sweater when you are indoors!). Other parts of the country or world force people to swelter because awesome ACs are not a priority!

      Tough for you!
She has to buy things for her baby----you know the one due in about a month and also furnish a new home--most women shop--whether they love it or not

@Anonymous- What is your problem with the Duchess shopping? Don't you shop? She has two homes to get ready and a baby on teh way or did you not know this.

      Give the Ducehss a break!!!

    3. I only expressed my opinion, don't have to attack me. I can be disappointed :(
and yes... most women work-- whether they love it or not.

    4. Charlotte... I thought personal attacks were not allowed? It seems like some posters are getting closer and closer to toeing that line, or stepping over it altogether. It doesn't feel like any "constructive criticism" is possible anymore without somebody jumping down your throat.

    5. There were several replies to the above comments on both sides which I didn't publish today because I do feel it's important for everyone to have their say constructively and people can disagree and voice their own opinions. As a moderator it is so difficult to find the right balance but over all I think we've come a long way as a community from the disagreements that were taking place.

@Anonymous I was not attacking you. I was just asking why you did not like her shopping. And why be disappointed. She has things she needs to get bought before the baby is born. She does not have the staff to do it for her. She like's to do it herself. And you really do need to give her a break.

  6. Odd about missing garter ceremony. Something doesn't seem quite right especially with Philip ill. Amazed to see how brave he was doing a garden party just before going in for major surgery. A role model for William and especially Kate. Weddings seem understandable since would have had to choose among friends but missing the garter is surprising. Would take no more energy than her shopping sprees. Glad to see her shopping, just be nice if she balanced it with some engagements,

    2. Her schedule was worked out in advance and her "maternity leave" from the family firm begins before the Garter ceremony. How is that different from any other working woman? I recall her standing for quite a long time last year, which might be uncomfortable late in pregnancy. She seems much like any other first time mother, focused on nesting and getting tasks done before her life changes even more profoundly than the day she married a prince.

@Anonymous 16:47 & 18:20 I think yur looking to much into the fact that the Duchess "might not attend" the Garter ceremony. And I agree with Greybird K there is alot of standing so being almost 9 months and it has been warm she, William & her doctors might not want her there.
Let's just hope she is feeling well enough to attend but to understand if she does not.

  7. Anon: 16:47. Have you ever had children? The last month of pregnancy is usually pretty hard. It was for me when I was pregnant with both my children. We do not know how much time and effort goes into getting ready for an engagement like Kate has to do. You sound like you could do it when you don't even know what is all involved. Try doing getting ready for any meeting/engagement while you are 5 weeks from giving birth. Have you ever thought that maybe its doctors orders that she not do too much and put added stress on her and the baby. She will has her boat christianing engagement, Trooping of the colours. So what if she cannot make the Garter service. Maybe she is following the advice of her doctors.

  9. Yay! I love impromptu posts and I love, love, love Kate's outfit! The blue and purple isn't something I would normally put together, but it looks fab on her! The "casual" Kate is something I always look forward to seeing!

With all the shopping and decorating she's doing, I would just love to be a fly on the wall in their home! Maybe one day we'll get to see the fruits of all her shopping labor! :)

    Thanks Charlotte!

  11. Hello! Hope you are having a lovely sunday!
Nice mix of colours! She looks great!
I can't understand people (especially women) who dislike the fact that Catherine shops. I don't know any woman who ditch an afternoon at the mall! It is one of the things I most enjoy in my life! I guess people get angry about it because they think she does not work... But she does work, in my opinion. The problem is her work is enviable to most people... I'm not attacking anyone, just expressing my thoughts in a kind way!
Best regards from São Paulo :)

  12. @Ana B -- I think you got to the root of the problem in a *very* kind way, yes. :)

It seems that Kate shops too much....or she does too much recycling. Her hems are too short....or she dresses "old" for her age. Amazing that a gal with so many "flaws" made it to the Abbey and the balcony of BP.

    2. One of the reasons that we do see Catherine shop is that she doesn't have the staff to do it for her and she ask supplier to visit her, which Diana did.

Also I think she has to make the most of her time when she is in London (being out and about) as the choices available on Anglesey would obviously be more limited.

I like the fact she does this herself, although she looks a bit stressed in these recent pix - I think she spotted the camera

    3. Pauline Oak Hills11 June 2013 at 01:33

I think people just like to complain about the Duchess. She will never please everyone. It is that she does not work enough, she shops to much, she dresses are too short etc. etc.

And I totally agree with CP, Kate from Texas, Roaylfan & Ana B. our girl is the one who made it to the alter. And she has a husband that is in love with her and she with him.

The "Daily Express" this morning is reporting that two Canadian Professors have lodged a petition in the Quebec High Court to have Canada's agreement to the Act of Succession overthrown, on the grounds that each Province should have had to give permission. The Act would only change if all the countries where HM is Head of State agree.
Since this has been in the pipeline since The announcement of the Duke and Duchess's engagement, seems a bit late to throw a spanner in the works.

    1. It doesn't really - I think that Richard Palmer has gone over the top.

Baby Cambridge must wait until the Queen, Prince Charles and William all die before he/she becomes Monarch. Barring massive disaster, this is going to be in something like 30-40 years time.

If Cambridge Baby is a girl then in order for her to be displaced a male Cambridge Baby would have to be born. Given as Cambridge 1 hasn't been born yet we're looking at at least another year minimum before Cambridge 2 is born. So currently there are no succession issues to worry about.

The proposed Act is retrospective applying to any birth after 2011.
Thus even is Cambridge 1 is a girl and Cambridge 2 is a boy and the law isn't passed until 2018, Cambridge 1 is still going to inherit (unless HM, Charles, and William all die before the law is passed, but after Cambridge 2 is born).

But it does make a good headline

      Delete
    2. I researched this topic thoroughly from Canadian sources (I am Canadian). The two professors are Quebec professors and there is quite a bit of history between the province of Quebec and the other provinces and territories of Canada.

The petition filed by the Quebec professors will be 'in process' for some time to come, but is unlikely to be ultimately successful.

  14. I think we also need to take into consideration what is transmitted by the media/twitter posts/Blogs etc. ... they can only provide news and photos about when she is going OUTSIDE to public locations where she can actually be SEEN. But we have no information when or how long she is sitting behind a desk preparing and researching for upcoming engagements. So her leisure activities like having coffee, strolling in a park with her dog, shopping etc are much more likely to be seen and reported every couple of days compared to her hours at the desk or in a meeting with work staff. This might give us the impression that she is not working very much, but really there are so many (thankfully) unreported hours of her life in between these sightings, so we really can't tell what she is actually occupied with. We just cannot know what the relation between work and leisure is for her and should be careful judging about it.

Also, what might seem like fun for us, can actually be part of her work, as for instance choosing clothes for public appearances etc. - she has to be so careful about what to wear because it always sends out a "message" and she will be judged based upon it.

  15. I'm wondering if Kate's cardigan is the same as Pippa's? Kate's sweater has buttons on the cuff, which don't seem to be apparent in the picture of Pippa. And while the sleeves are pushed up, they seem to be a bit shorter (3/4 length?) than Pippa's, which are awfully long. Just my thoughts :-) I do love it when they share, though! I always wished I could have had a sister with whom I could have shared clothing!

Bless her little heart...at 6 years old she doesn't understand I'll see them from afar. Charlotte, I emailed you with two address. One is our family email and the other is my personal email. I can get my personal email on my iPhone. Thank you SO, SO much again for all your help! You are a treasure! I will try to update!!!

Continuing to pray for Prince Phillip. Sad he won't be there Saturday at the Queen's side for Trooping the Colour. After over 65 years of marriage, there's a little part of her that seems incomplete without him at her side. At least it seemed that way at the Jubilee last year. Praying that he has a quiet and quick recovery!

I love Kate's choice of colors, the blue and purple. The bright colors are so profuse in all of the stores. The recent weddings have all been so beautiful.
I have been thinking about William and Kate enjoying watching baby Cambridge moving around in his momma's tummy. It is all such a miracle. They must be getting so excited and nervous.
