Kate To Visit Children's Hospice On Second Anniversary, Society Wedding of the Year + Repli-Kate's

The Duchess of Cambridge is to visit Naomi House Children's Hospice, Sutton Scotney, on her second wedding anniversary to celebrate Children's Hospice Week 2013. On April 29 Kate will tour the hospice's facilities, where she will meet children and their families, staff, volunteers and supporters of the charity.

Naomi House

Officially opened by Prince Charles in 1997, Naomi House provides support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families living in Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire. The hospice is purpose built with ten bedrooms, an end of life suite, a music room, a sensory room and hydrotherapy suite.

Naomi House

This is Hampshire shared more information on the engagement:

'At the end of her tour, the Duchess will join a tea party with some of Naomi's House's children and their families.
During the tea party, Her Royal Highness will watch a musical performance by Ollie Wade singing his own song Free, written in memory of his brother, Ben, who died in 2011 after he and his family received end of life care and bereavement support at Naomi House.
Ollie's song will be released at the start of Children's Hospice Week to raise money for Naomi House.'

The always informative British Royals revealed the Middleton family's business Party Pieces hosted a Christmas party at Naomi House a few years ago. It's entirely possible Kate played a role in organising the party and wanted to support the house.

British Royal Twitter Feed

Kate is obviously keen to lend her support to Children's Hospice Week which takes place from April 26 - May 3rd, a  number of events are taking place around the country to support the fundraising effort. As you all know, the Duchess is patron of East Anglia's Children's Hospices and she made a speech at Hospis Malaysia during the royal tour last year to highlight the invaluable work they do. It's an area I think she is immensely interested in and will continue to support in the future.

I'm sure William will have something special planned for Kate after the visit to celebrate their anniversary (am I the only one who can't believe it's been two years since the royal wedding :))

William and Harry surprised locals at remote country pub The Feathers Inn, Northumberland on Saturday night when they popped in for the stag do of Eton friend Thomas Van Straubenzee. The Princes enjoyed a meal and drinks with friends and the pub's chef described both of them as "lovely chaps" :)

The Feathers Inn

Thomas Van Straubenzee is set to marry long-time love Lady Melissa Percy on June 22 in St Michael's Church. Melissa is the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland and the reception will take place at the Percy home, Alnwick Case (used for exterior and interior shots in the Harry Potter movies). It is expected to be the society wedding of the year with an impressive guest list expected to include William and Harry as ushers. Prince Harry's ex girlfriend Chelsy Davy is Melissa's best friend and will play an important role on the day as bridesmaid.

The happy couple.

It is quite possible Pippa will also attend; Melissa's older brother George Percy is a very close friend of Pippa since their days at Edinburgh University. It looks set to be an unforgettable wedding, and the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland want the community to enjoy the occasion. An estimated 500 guests have been invited. Kate will be eight months pregnant when the wedding takes place and I expect she will be in attendance.

As requested we share four stellar Repli-Kate pieces beginning with the Eliza J Embroidered Lace Overlay Dress. The €144 three-quarter sleeve navy lace dress is a great alternative to Kate's Erdem.

Next another Eliza J piece. The Lace Sheath Dress is very similar to the bespoke Alexander McQueen piece Kate wore to the Diamond Jubilee Service last year. It's available at Nordstrom for €152.

I'm loving the summer collection from Mango and was surprised to see two jackets very similar to pieces Kate's worn. The €65 Lurex Boucle Jacket is a solid Repli-Kate for the boucle jacket Kate wore during the Canada tour, and the Field Bouclé Jacket has a number of almost identical details from Kate's Joseph Nessie jacket. It's currently available in white and navy for $70.

As the majority of our readers are from the US, I think it prudent to share my sadness about the Boston Marathon. One of our dearest reader's nephew was only a block and a half away when the bombs went off. Sending my thoughts and prayers to those who were injured or lost a loved one.

In the wake of this terrible event, security has been reassessed for this weekend's London Marathon which Prince Harry will be attending as patron of the London Marathon Charitable Trust. A 30 second silence will  be held and runners are being encouraged to wear black ribbons as a sign of solidarity.

  1. Adorable picture of the Naomi House children with their pie plate faces - so cute!

Yes, it's hard to believe that it's been 2 years since the wedding. This marriage - a critical one to the BRF - is off to a very solid start.

And very much looking forward to your special 2nd anniversary post. :)

  2. Thanx for the update! Unfortunatly I do not like any of the replikates, none looks as stylish and sophistivated as the orginals do. Well I guess there is a reason why the originals cost that much :)

  3. I am hoping you could maybe do a Kate loves charities. I am awfully confused between her patronages, her royal duties, her charities and sightings of her. I know they are all different and require her to spend a lot of time focused on them, but it just seems like every few Weeks, we see her supporting another organisation, program, or project. does she really work with all of them? Or does she get invited to some she doesnt actually work with? does she actually work with her patronages or does she just make appearences when an event arises? Just too confusing...

  6. Charlotte, a great post per usual! Thank you for your concern in regards to Boston. I lived there for six years, and had over 10+ friends who were at the scene. A very sad and scary day. It is however, beautiful to see the care and concern of others. :)

    1. I watched the news break on Sky. A day that should have been fun and enjoyable turned into such a painful day for so many. Something I have always admired about Americans is their ability to pull together in a crisis and the people of Boston certainly did that. So many opened their homes/businesses to help and the emergency services were incredibly brave. I'm sure many of you read What Kate Wore. The lovely Susan who writes it has another blog Preppy Princess and she did a fantastic job of capturing the moments and reactions from Boston.

    2. Charlotte, you're 100% correct about America's ability to pull together in times of crisis. I live in New York...about an hour outside of Manhattan. I remember the outpouring of prayers and love after the 911 attacks. People from all over the country...all over the world came to our aid.

I was watching a baseball game the other night. For your readers that live outside the US that aren't very familiar with American sports, the game of baseball is almost synonymous with the US. It was a NY Yankee game played at their home field. Now, the NY Yankee's and Boston's team, the Red Sox, have been bitter rivals for the last century. Their fans are passionate and loud about their respective teams and over the years their disdain for one another been the cause of many a brawl between both fans and the teams themselves. But this game was different. Hanging above the entrance to Yankee Stadium, was a huge banner with both the NY Yankee and Boston Red Sox insignia's and the words, "United We Stand". Inside, an entire stadium full of thousands of Yankee fans (many of them wearing Boston Red Sox hats and jersey's), sang along with the Neil Diamond song, "Sweet Caroline", a song that's played at every Boston home game. That night, there were no rivals and no enemies. It was everyone joined together as one, showing their support for their fellow Americans. It put a lump in my throat and made me remember that the terrible evil that exists in this world, will always be defeated by the tenacity, strength and resolve of the human race. It is so wonderful that the runners in the London Marathon will be showing their solidarity and we thank you.

Bostonians are tough as nails, just like us New Yorkers. And their great city will recover and come back stronger than ever, just as ours did. In the meantime, we will continue pray for all of those affected. May God bless all of their families and guide them through this terrible time.

Great post again Ms. Charlotte. I too can not believe it has been two years for these two love birds. The Duchess has brought so much class and a ray of sunshine to the royal family. It is really nice to see what the Duchess has done for William. He has been throuh so much in his life and to have soemone by your side that loves you & respects you is nice to see.

I can not wait to see their baby and what great parents they will be. And what the future hold's for them. And all the up coming engagements are going to be great, we will get alot of pictures.

Charlotte I thought you said in a post I made that William will be attending the engagement with his Duchcess on the 29th, Is that true? It would be great to see them together on their special day.

    2. Hi Bluhare,

I believe Party Pieces supports Starlight on an ongoing basis. It's a wonderful organisation providing entertainment, fun and laughter for children in hospice's and hospitals across the UK. They've helped the charity to create a children's pack that has helped to entertain over 20,000 children.

      http://www.starlight.org.uk/companies-we-love/party-pieces/

Through the foundation Prince William met with a little girl Lydia who has gone through a number of procedures to treat a rare from of congenital heart disease. http://www.starlight.org.uk/recent-wishes/princess-lydia-meets-prince-william/

Party Pieces also supports the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity. Staff took part in the Santa Run on December 11 http://www.partypieces.co.uk/thepartytimes/?p=15425
They supplied party essential for their annual dinner in June and helped to raise awareness for the Rainbow Trust.

They're also involved in an initiative called 'Pennies'. When one makes a purchase on their site and it amounts to say £3.50, one has the option to pay £4.00 and the remaining 50 p goes straight to the Rainbow Trust. It all ads up and has proved a very successful means of fundraising.

      http://www.pennies.org.uk/get-involved/where-can-i-donate/party-pieces/

In November they supported the Heroes Charity Dinner by donating supplies. Each year Party Pieces works with a different charity and I must say I think they're doing great well for the Rainbow Trust this year :)

Charlotte, thank you for showing your kindness and support for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings. A day that should have been fun and exciting turned into tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this awful act. My thoughts keep going to the precious 8 yr old boy who lost his life. I have an 8 yr old son and just cannot even imagine. Hoping and praying they catch those responsible and there will be swift justice. :( I think it's a great gesture of support and love that there will be a moment of silence and black ribbons worn at the London Marathon. I also read somewhere that they are asking those who cross the finish line to run with their hand over their heart.

I'm looking forward to all the upcoming engagements, but especially the one on April 29. I think Kate giving her time and patronage to children's hospice is fabulous. Such a worthy and life changing cause. I think it's great that William will be able to join her that day. He will be a great support to Kate and I know he will have something special planned to celebrate their day afterwards! :)

NO, I cannot believe it's been two years since the wedding. I was hugely pregnant and begging my doctor to please release me to travel overseas. I desperately wanted to be there....LOL!!! Needless to say I woke up at 3:00 am that day and watched the big day on tv. There was no traveling across the pond!!! I always wonder how Kate reflects on her life and how much it has changed. Now she has the future monarch of the UK growing inside her. Absolutely wonderful!!! :)

Glad to know the boys had a great weekend together! Thomas and Melissa make such a cute couple! I think I posted previously, but I figured William and Harry would be ushers. I did not know Chelsy was a bridesmaid. The guest list should be amazing. I wish that George and Pippa would hook up, but I guess there are just meant to be good friends. :) They looked great together at the wedding this past weekend. Should be a magnificent day and I know Charlotte will bring us great, firsthand info! One thing we know for sure, Kate WILL have a visible bump by then!!!!

    Thanks for the update!

They spend a lot of time socialising at weddings etc Melissa Percy's wedding is going to be amazing. Alnwick Castle is a beautiful place and It will be one of the last time we see Kate before the baby is born and she'll be surrounded by family and friends.

When I heard an eight year old boy died in Boston, I just thought of his parents and what they must be going through. I know many participating in the London Marathon will be keeping Boston in their thoughts on Sunday and I hope those involved are apprehended shortly.

While it saddens me that there is even the need for children's hospice care, I admire the Duchess for her support of hospice. It takes a special person to remain cheerful and compassionate in the face of terminally ill people.

Thank you for your post today. I admire Kate for spending the day of her second anniversary at a children's hospice. I, too, cannot believe it has been two years already.

Thank you to you and your countrymen for your upcoming display of solidarity this weekend at the London Marathon. It means a lot. The only parallel I can draw is the personal, natural loss of loved ones. When my friends lost family members, I always thought "I'm sorry" sounded inadequate, until I lost my grandparents and realized that those words actually mean so much. The small gestures of the silence and black ribbons says so much when we are all at a loss for words.

Both of my neighbor's children qualified for the Boston Marathon. We are still awaiting word about them and their family. Prayers, please.

Thank you, Charlotte and Siddhii. My neighbor arrived back in town last night. Her adult children must've run the marathon quite quickly as they were in the first group of runners, well under the 4 hour 9 minute mark. The family was walking back to the car when they heard the first explosion. They did make it back to their car, and they were able to return to the place where they were staying. I know so many were stranded and had to hike on foot or stay with kind strangers in that area. I am so thankful all are okay.

  13. I want to be happy shes made so many new notes into her diary in the coming month but all I can think is a rush of work before a very, very, very, very, very long period of none. I understand taking 2-3 months off for baby but lots of women take 2-4 weeks off then back to work they go. This is hardly manual labor she's doing and I don't think baby or not going 6 months to a year (gosh knows how long) will be good for her work-shy reputation. I hope this is a new leaf...I really, really hope so but...

    2. Hyperbole, such as your comment that there will be a "very, very, very, very, very" long period of no work, lends zero credibility to your assertion that Kate will be taking "6 months to a year (gosh knows how long)" after the baby is born.

All new mothers in the BRF take a period of time off from engagements after the baby is born, Kate will not be any different. However, no official announcement has yet been made regarding the Cambridges plans after the birth of their child.

In the UK women can take up to a year off. The Duchess does not have a contract of employment and nor does she have a salary, so basically she can take as much time as she and her husband wish. However, I have no doubt that if she and the child are well, she will not be away from engagements for too long.

I just read an online article claiming that the Duchess is thrilled with a lingerie gift of two nursing bras with matching briefs from Lorna Drew Nursing Lingerie. (Charlotte, have you heard of the company?) Am I a hopeless old-fogey (I am old!) to consider that a grossly inappropriate gift? How in the world could they guess her size in such intimate apparel? And on what basis do they make the claim that she is thrilled? I would guess that she isn't!

    Lovely post, Charlotte! Thank you!
I love the fact Catherine supports Children Hospices. I'm sure her next choices will be just as good!
Oh, I miss all that excitement about the Royal Wedding! It was so fun! I can't believe it's been 2 years! I guess only Harry's wedding will come close to that in a near future... Other than that, I guess only baby Cambridge's wedding will cause such a furor around the globe. And the baby isn't even born yet, so it will take a very long time!
I don't have words to describe how I'm feeling about the tragedy in Boston. I just keep thinking how the little boy's father is feeling, since he was the reason his family was there. It must be dreadful to see your boy died, your girl lost a leg and your wife has a severe brain damage. I'm sending my thoughts to him and to those who's been affected. I believe, one day, the world won't be this mess anymore. Let's pray for that.
    Hugs.

PS: I hope I have made myself clear. I'm just typing too fast and not reading it what I wrote again because I haven't had much time to post lately. I'm sorry for the possible mistakes :)

  26. When my family emigrated from Ireland during the Famine, they settled in Boston. Monday's terrible events have shown how strong and united Bostonians are. I remember that after the September 11 attacks, The Queen had our National Anthem played during the Changing of the Guard, a kindness I will never forget. So I appreciate very much the gestures of sympathy and support planned for the London Marathon, since that great city suffered tragedy in the attacks of July 7 2005. Life goes on.
The Duchess is now a member of the Firm, and a tremendous asset going forward. I see nothing wrong with a young woman taking private time to be with her firstborn. Kate has committed her whole life to Britain, they've many decades to see her work in the public sphere.
