UPDATED: Kate Photographed Twice Shopping in London

In recent days there has been rumours that photos of Kate shopping in London had been taken showing early signs of the Duchess's baby bump. Those rumours were confirmed tonight with the release of these photos by US Weekly.

US Weekly/Top Star Pictures

From the US Weekly Story:

'After several very low-key weeks, a more voluptious Kate Middleton was finally spotted and photographed - in London this past Wednesday on January 30 visiting a Boots store in West London.'

Aside from her trip to Boots, Kate shopped at Selfridges where she purchased a pair of Sweaty Betty Kriya Yoga Leggings and browsed sweaters by Reiss. St James's Palace last week confirmed Kate is 'continuing to feel better' and has returned to work behind the scenes and is planning future engagements for later this month.

Kate wrapped up in the £129 Zara Checked Print Cape she was also photographed wearing in Pret A Manger on January 25. The cape is from the Fall 2010 Collection and is now sold out.

Maisie Willis Instagram/Zara

As I mentioned previously an almost identical replicate is the Classic Glen Plaid Cape, currently available at Orvis reduced from £119 to £94.

Orvis

Kate looked chic in black jeans, a long sleeved sleeve black top a black scarf and her Really Wild Seville Suede Boots in chocolate.  The narrow fit boots are hand-made in Spain from chocolate suede and available for £295.

Really Wild Clothing Company

The Duchess has a long history with Really Wild Clothing Company, having worked for the company as a sales girl in 2004, when she posed at the CLA Game Fair at Blenheim Palace in pieces by the British brand. It is one of the very few occasions where Kate posed for a photo pre-engagement. Most recently Kate wore the company's Shooting Waistcoat during a visit to the Widehorizons Adventure Centre in June.

Splash/Really Wild Clothing Company

Kate wore her hair tied back and I must say it is wonderful to see her looking healthy and happy following a difficult time suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. I loved her outfit and if it's any indication, I think we can safely assume Kate's pregnancy wardrobe will be just as stylish as ever. Despite the headlines, I didn't notice a visible bump myself, did you? The photos have also been published in today's Sunday Express, something I was incredibly surprised to see as the British press hardly ever publish candids of the Duchess.

Duchess Kate was also photographed on January 29 shopping in London. It was reported she visited her hairdresser that day. We also see the Duchess walking past signage for Zara, a store she also visited. One can view a selection of photos from both shopping trips at Popsugar.

Popsugar

I've said it many times before, I love Kate's candid style and this is another example of how classy and put together the Duchess always looks. Kate elected to wear her Temperley Classic Odele Sheepskin Coat. The €2620 coat is made of luxuriously soft sheepskin. It has the suede side of the skin facing out and is lined with flat haired sheepskin, allowing a snug and flattering fit.

Temperley

From the product description:

"The cut is feminine and sharp with a nipped in waist. Leather trim and gold metal hardware complete the look. Fabric composition: 100% sheepskin; Trim: 100% leather. 3/4 coat length."

A terrific Repli-Kate, the Vero Moda Viva Fake Fur Jacket, is incredibly similar to the 'Odele' and is just £89.95. It comes in two colours: black and dark sand (the black is almost sold out, but keep a check on it if you're interested because I expect it will come back into stock shortly). The Viva is a very wearable, stylish winter jacket.

Vero Moda

Kate carried her Tod's D-Styling Bauletto Medio Leather Tote. The rich grey bag is available for €1,170.

My Theresa

Kate completed the look with her Kurt Geiger pumps, a black dress, black tights and an umbrella. Which look did you prefer?

We should hear details about this month's engagements shortly.

Wow what can I say but you are the best. Great post again. I still can't see a royal baby bump yet. The Duchess is looking really healthy and she is looking fuller but with the way the cap is you can't tell if there is a bump or not.

It is nice to see photos of the Duchess but on the other hand she still desevers her privacy. It is a danm if you do or danm if you don't. And I mean is that we fans want to see picutres of the beautiful Duchess but on theother hand she deserves her privacy.

So again Ms. Charlotte thank you for this great post and everything you do for us fans. You are the best!!!!

    Hello!
    Lovely article, Charlotte!
Well, I don't think there is a bump to be seen in these pictures... The cape is loose and I think this may have caused the impression of a baby bump. If you take a look at the other picture, you'll see that nothing is going on!
    But, that's what I saw...
Nice to see her out and about! And I love her hair up! Gorgeous as usual!
Best wishes of a great Sunday :)

  3. Well done again, Charlotte! You're the fastest blogger around! :o) Wonderful photo of the Duchess and I agree with you - it's grand to see her feeling better. I'm happy that she's able to resume her work and have some fun shopping. (I know from experience how excellent it feels to resume doing regular things after being laid up, as I've had severe Fibromyalgia for years.) I'm sure Kate will take advantage of her good health, and I'm looking forward to reading all about her right here! ;o)

    Hugs and aloha from Hawaii!

Hi Julie- I know what you mean about the fibromyalgia. I have had it for many years too and there are mornings when I can't even get out of bed. I live in an area of Cailfornia that we do not get very cold but this winter has really been bad. So there has been alot of very hot baths and heating pads on my lap.

I hope you are feeling better.

  4. Charlotte, Thank you for this quick update! I don't see a bump either, but this picture helped deal with Kate withdrawals :)Love her boots, very stylish!Maybe we should see a bump in her next public engagement, can't wait!:) xoxo

  5. This is not a baby bump. In other pictures, you see her with white plastic bags. Even in the pictures, you can see them behind her legs. At not even four moths pregnant, she would not be showing this much neither. Sorry, ladies.

Wonderful post, Charlotte! Love getting new posts during this dry period. :) Well, I don't really see a baby bump. I assume there must be something there that she is concealing by continuing to wear the chic Zara cape. I do love her hair pulled back in the ponytail. She looks fresh and pretty! So happy she seems to be feeling better!

The photo from the CLA Game Fair at Blenheim Palace has always been one of my favorite shots. I think it shows her fun personality and true beauty. She is just gorgeous!

Thanks again for the quick, great post! Have a wonderful Sunday!

Oh that was fun I didn't expect this. No it doesn't look like a baby bump to me either. Just the wind blowing a bit. Smart move on Kate's part wearing a cape out and about.
I love boots and at my age comfort is (the name of the game) those boots look great!
No more pointed high heels for me (maybe for 2 hours) I do miss them.
I actually like that plaid purple coat too. (on the model)
Have a great weekend all :)

Just for fun it is 11:30 EST and I was bored so I turned to my favorite blog and got a special treat before bed. I don't know how the Duchess stays warm in her cape, maybe they are very warm but I would freeze in our weather we are having. It is great to see her out and getting fresh air lovely as always she has some color in her cheeks. Off the record Julie I want your weather so tired of SNOW!

  9. Hello! It is difficult to judge through the angle of these photos, but I have not seen any significant change in Kate's body. I'm as thin as Kate and when I was 15 weeks of pregnancy, I saw some very obvious changes in my body, but of course, this varies from woman to woman. I confess I'm curious to see the Duchess in your next public appearances, just so we will see her pregnant bump.

  16. Thank you for the post. I can see a small bump in these pics. You need to keep in mind that she was really thin to beginn with, here stomach was so flat. Of course it's not easy to see a baby bump that easily especially when she is wearing a cape. She looks healthy and that is what counts.

Thank you for another wonderful post Charlotte!
I like both of her looks, very classy and chic! But I think the Cape-look is better for some relaxed shopping, looks very comfy! The other one with the pumps and the coat looks appropriate for a meeting or something.

I also can't really see a baby bump, but I'm sure we will see it soon :-)

    Best Wishes!

  22. Thanks for the great post, Charlotte! It always makes me happy to see surprise posts of the lovely duchess, especially when she's out shopping or running errands. I love both the dress and the cape outfits. I don't think she could do any wrong when putting an outfit together - she just makes it all seem so easy! It really inspires me to take a little more care with my wardrobe before going shopping in the future :-) I love her hair swept back, and the boots with the cape and scarf. She looks so happy and healthy again! There could be a little baby bump underneath the cape or the purse, but I doubt she's showing very much yet. She's so tall and thin, and usually women with her body type won't show very much until the last few months of pregnancy. Thanks again, Charlotte - love it!

Both outfits look good, but I suspect she will be able to wear the cape much later in the pregnancy.
She always looks lovely and thankfully she now looks as though she is almost recovered. Hope they do not arrange too many engagements in any one day in the coming weeks.

I love both looks. She looks very sophisticated and classy in the all black....very royal. The Zara cape and skinny jeans with boots is chic and casual. For myself I would probably go with the chic and casual because when I shop I usually have 4 kids in tow. There's always a little one to chase, so no heels for me. :) No matter what she wears, she always looks gorgeous!

Can't wait for an announcement on upcoming engagements!

Charlotte, I was just thinking we haven't heard anything about William in a while. Do you have any news if he is in London with Kate or working in Anglesey? Also any news when it will be announced what his future plans are as far as the military?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello Kate,

William's future plans are going to be released this month according to the Palace. It was supposed to be last month but was postponed. Since Kate's birthday (at the circus) there have been no sightings of William. He's been working in Anglesey, getting his flying hours up.

      Delete
    2. Pauline California4 February 2013 at 02:19

My thoughts on William spending all his time in Anglesey getting in his flying time does prove to me that he is thinking of staying in the RAF. If that is what his plans are I sure hope they decided on this together. I just hope right now that he is not putting is beautiful Duchess & their unborn baby second to his flying. I know he has a job to do but to put your job first is not cool. I am not saying he is doing that but that is what it sounds like. But I have never been a military wife either nor do we know what he does on his days off.

Oh well I guess I am just an old fashion woman who thinks the husband need' to spend as much time with his pregnant wife as he can.

I just can't believe he would not be with his Duchess on his days off. Or why she can not be in Anglesey with him.

      Delete
    3. Kate, Texas, USA4 February 2013 at 02:34

Thanks Charlotte! I figured he was in Anglesey, but wasn't sure. What are your thoughts on future military plans? I know he loves serving his country and finds great purpose, but I also know his days of not working as a full-time royal are numbered. With starting a family and moving into a new home in 2013, I would think this would be the opportune time to leave. Who knows.........?

      Delete
    4. It's incredibly tough to call. I think William would much prefer to stay with the RAF than a life of royal duties, however he is 31 in June and many feel it's time for him to take on a more meaningful role within the family.

      Delete
    5. Interesting. I've always thought William didn't seem well-suited for the intense public royal duties that the role requires. Harry, although he's made clear his disdain for the press and the public alike, seems better suited personality-wise, better able to get on with the public and much more comfortable around common people (as does the Duchess of Cambridge) than William. I'd guess that both William and Kate are feeling some pressure to step up and take on more duties, even with their family plans moving forward.

      Delete
    6. I agree with you, Angie. William too often seems tense in public, and I suspect some of the criticism Kate draws may be misguided efforts on his part to shield her. Harry has a much more easy way with people, although his disdain is troubling. Charles himself is out of touch with the world, just look at the struggle he had swiping his pass to get on the tube. Had Diana lived, I think it would have been different. While she had many faults, Diana had the best instinct yet about people, she was very intuitive, and I think she would have guided both boys more easily into their roles. You can see them trying to grab onto ideas she gave them, without having the big picture. My hope is once they really start participating in royal life, they'll develop a flair for it. That's what their mother would have wanted. It would be their best gift to her.

      Delete
    7. I have the impression that William doesn't like very much his role as future King that he has for destiny. You know, he didn't choose to be a king, but he now chooses to be a RAF pilot and he really enjoys it. So I think he is not putting the career above his family, but he is just very passionate about his job.

I don't understand why the Duchess didn't join William in Wales. Before it was said that she had to be in London to be close to the hospital, but know that I know that she has flown to Mustique I don't understand why she didn't go to Wales and stay with William. What do you think Pauline?
In addition, I hope that a doctor is with her during this holiday.

  28. Pauline California3 February 2013 at 22:13

I love all the posts. I have looked at all the pictures of the Duchess out shopping and I still don't see a bump. But she has the cape on and then the coat. I do have to say that the Duchess is looking just stunning & beautiful. I love the no make (little) make up. She is looking like a very happy mommy to be. I bet William is loving that his beautiful Duchess is looking very healthy and that she is feeling better.

I just hope that they do not give her to many engagements all at one time. I wonder if William has told them to keep them at one or two a week.

Oh well, I can't wait until we hear about her up coming engagements and maybe get to she the royal baby bump in a dress and not hide by a coat or a cape.

Thanks Charlotte again for all your hard work to bring up all the great news on our beautiful pregnant Duchess.

  29. There is a cape pattern on Amazon. Just like Kate's but ha ha you have to make it. Bummer there are no decent fabric stores here but, I could order some nice wool some where else thanks to technology. Got to run...

  30. Don't think she's showing much yet. The cape just helps keep it a bit of a mystery. She couldn't fasten that jacket if she was showing much. Love that jacket. Wish I could afford it. But then it's sunny in northern California today and quite pleasant, so I don't really need it.

  31. Funny, I'm reading an old Hello! from November 2010. (Great retrospective on all the outfits Kate wore to weddings) and there is a picture of a very similar cape to hers by Zara for 79.99. Wonder if she didn't buy it way back then, just before her engagment!

Hello Charlotte- I just read in The Sun that William and his beautiful Duchess have been seen leaving for a holiday with her parents. It says that the Duchess must be feeling well enough to travel the 8 hrs flight to the Carbbean.

I am glad that she & William will get to spend some time together even though her parents are there with them. It sounds like they are staying in their own place and her parents are near by. Now let's hope they will get some privacy.

I also hope the duchess will get some rest in the sun. I can just imgine her in her little bathing suit and a tiny baby bump. Would love to see photos but not at the expense of their privacy.

Hope you can find out more for us fans.

    1. Hello Pauline,

I am currently trying to find out if this is 100% true because I would be surprised if they were in Mustique, although it looks like it. There will be the inevitable backlash regarding the lack of engagements if it's true.

      Delete
    2. Hi all: I found the same information at Hello magazine online:

    3. I also read the news. It seems they are indeed in Mustique. I found it very, very odd, because of her condition. I couldn't imagine that they even thought about leaving the UK for a winter break during her pregnancy... An eight hour flight seems a little bit risky to me, for someone who is still in an early stage and recently suffered from HG.
Anyway, if that is true, I wish they all enjoy their caribbean trip. :)
      Hugs from Portugal!
      Z.

    4. If Kate is Mustique, I think that one of her 2 gynecologists should have gone with her.

Moreover, if Kate is really in Mustique, this is a further evidence that she didn't really suffer of hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a very serious condition as far as I have been reading, but she simply suffered of morning sickness and she went to the hospital just because William and the GP doctor (the one whom William called the morning of the Duchess hospitalization and who recommended to go to the hospital) were anxious for the pregnancy. It is understandable some anxiety and apprehension from a father to be and the hospitalization was appropriate for the first pregnancy of the future Queen of England, but in my opinion the diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum is wrong.

      What do you readers think?

      Delete
    5. If it is true, and it looks like it is - lots of confirmation from different royal tweeters, then this would have been the stupidest move they have made yet.
There is going to be tons of resentment about this. Even the most ardent fans on WKW fb page are shocked.

Oh dear. I think many will jump on the lack of work bandwagon again if they are in Mustique. This could be a trip they had planned for a while. Unfortunately, having HG and having to cancel a number of engagements to care for yourself and unborn child is not planned. Hoping there won't be too much backlash from their trip. Good for them for jetting off on holiday! Having a child will change their lives forever, so hopefully they can enjoy the time away and enjoy just being together.

Hello charlotte- The Duchcess will catch crap even if she is working. The people who complain have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. And if we all rememeber that this trip has been planned for sometime. It was said after they returned from the Asian trip and all the fall out about the topless photos that they were going some where private.

But then the Duchess got pregnant & sick so I think the trip was put off until now. We have to think that it was in the hnads of her doctors and when it would be safe for her to fly etc.

I just hope that you will not allow this trip and the Duchess's work stuff take off again with all the nasty comments. I know your feeling about the subject.

      Have a great day.

      Delete
    8. I don't agree, Pauline. Diana never "caught crap" for not working hard enough, neither has Princess Anne and the Queen. I believe a lot of us, me included, are sitting on the fence. We think Kate is lovely, we want to admire her, but except for royal tours, she just hasn't put a lot of days in, even before she was pregnant. (and no, the Olympics don't count. Tons of people I've met wanted tickets to watch almost anything and couldn't get them or found them much too expensive.) There will always be Daily Mail haters and always wonderful people like you who accept anything, but there are a lot of us in between, who really like Kate and want to send messages about the work she's doing for charity, not the latest shopping trips or sunshine holidays. I don't see this as nasty, I see it as constructive. There is no job where overall public opinion is more important than being a royal princess because it is basically a state-funded role.

      Delete
    9. I can not help but be disappointed! Anonymous 21:28 I couldn't agree more with you....I am also on the fence and not sure how to feel about the Duchess anymore. I really want to admire her but I can't, and admiring her for her looks and her poise alone is simply too shallow. She is so privileged in her position and the impact that she could have on so many.....she could make such a difference! Unfortunately she hasn't done so yet. Will she do it in the future? I don't know and I am getting more convinced by the day that she might not. What a shame!

  37. From what I understand, the holiday is true, but they have announced a single engagment for Kate, a visit to Hope House on February 19. I'm afraid I am one of those folks who am disappointed that Kate is well enough to go to the circus, shop and now take a fancy holiday, without doing more. I've collected pictures of her for years, clubbing, holidaying and shopping, she had a decade after university for all that, and now hoped, to see her as a full working princess. I'm beginning to believe there will always be excuses for her not to do much on the slogging part of being a member of the royal family. (Diana did a lot from Day One.) And Mustique is a very unfortunate spot. It's linked with Princess Margaret, luxury, frivolness, decadence and pampering. It looks like William is taking the two King Edwards as his royal model, rather than the Georges and the present Queen. He talks about just being one of the soldiers as does Harry but the other soldiers aren't holidaying in Mustique. They're lucky if they can get a budget flight to Spain. It may come from the freedom he was given to run with a rather fast set. My apologies to those who alway apologize for Kate. I had great hopes for her once too but I, for one am getting weary of excuses.

  40. Oh no! I don't like the sound of how this could go. Even if the trip was planned months ago, I see room for complaining, but if they are there surely it is with The Queen's permission. It would explain why appearances were slated for late in Feb. I just Googled and it does seem to be true, but at least one article I read put it in a very positive light stressing that once the baby comes things will change and that after how sick she has been she deserves a treat before going more public. At any rate, even though I don't think this was a wise trip, it was their decision and I respect that and hope they have a wonderful time in a beautiful place. I do like how Kate's parents are so included - they seem like very level-headed people and I admire that.

I feel it is none of our business what or where the Duchess & William go or do. We are not her doctors or the people who tell them what to do and where to go. And for someone on this blog to say that the Duchess did not have HG, all I have to say to them is "Are you her doctor or a doctor period". We have to remember that neither one of them are full time working royals. Also if people have been reading other post or other blogs, facebook etc. they will see that the Duchess has been keeping in touch with her charities while being at home resting.

We are not in her home watching her every move or going to the doctors with her so we can't really say how sick she was or not. So if it is ok with the Queen and their handlers it should be ok with us fans.

I know they will catch alot of nasty comments but we are not walking in her shoes.

    1. There is a very simple solution that would both take care of the part time royals aspect and make it nobody's business. Simply for William and Catherine to only take royal benefits when they are activly working as royals. The rest of the time, they pay their own way, out of the sizable amount William inherited from Diana, and from the Middleton fortune. No more royal protection tagging along when Kate goes shopping, opening car doors, no more Kensington Palace flat refurbished at public expense. They won't be poor by any means but might come to appreciate what the public purses (through taxes) are covering, once they have to pay their own security etc like other prominent people. There is a precident for this, the lovely Duchess of Kent has gone entirely and quietly private. (A great feature for the royal digest, Charlotte.) At that point, it really will be no ones business; until then it's a case of "your taxpayer pounds at work" to paraphraise how we put it in the States, and yes it is the business of at least the British. My personal opinion is that they need to go full time royal now the heir or heiress is coming. As my late father would say, nothing done half-way is done well. They've had their fifteen months and years before that. Now let's see them live up to the title the queen granted them.

    2. The drama over the vacation reminds me of Vanity Fair's photo of Kate in the royal limo with the words "Everyone Cares, That's Who". Boy did they nail that one!!!! :)

    3. The day when people stop caring is the day there is no longer a royal family so William and Kate better hope that Vanity Fair is correct (if jokingly) and that never happens.
