William and Kate's Baby Due In July, Kate's Portrait Blouse + Latest Sighting

We begin today's post with some wonderful news. It has been officially announced the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby is due in July. The couple decided to announce the news following Kate's twelve week scan, which showed that her unborn baby is in good health and are said to be "delighted" that they can make the long awaited announcement. The Palace confirmed Kate is not expecting twins despite speculation in recent weeks.

From St James's Palace:

'Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July. The Duchess's condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month.'

Kate is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes severe vomiting and dehydration and is most common in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. It is thought she is slowly recovering as the illness often eases off in the second trimester. However, we don't expect to see the couple for a short while. A spokesman said William would be concentrating on his flying with the RAF Search and Rescue Force while Kate would return to engagements in the "near future".

If the royal baby arrives early, he or she could share a birthday with Princess Diana who was was born on July 1 although it is thought the due date is closer to mid July. Very exciting news for William and Kate and most importantly, it's great to hear the twelve week scan showed the baby is in perfect health.

************

The Duke and Duchess have advertised for a 'super servant' to help them in their new life as parents at Kensington Palace. The Sunday Express's talented Camilla Tominey wrote:

'An internal advertisement at Buckingham Palace calls for someone: "to provide a high standard of housekeeping for TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Main duties included: ensuring all areas of the residence are cleaned and maintained to a high standard at all times. Caring for and maintaining TRH personal clothing, cleaning silver-ware and glassware and in-house laundry.'

The advertisement also states that a current valid UK driving licence is "essential". The couple employed their first orderly last week, whose role includes chauffering, logistics and organising William's wardrobe. This news adds further weight to the theory William is planning to leave the RAF and dedicate his time to royal duties or the couple are at least planning to base themselves in London.

The unveiling of Kate's first portrait by Paul Emsley sparked quite a lot of debate. Some loved it and some hated it, but vast numbers of 'Repli-Kate's' wanted to know who designed the sleeveless pussy-bow blouse Kate wore in photos taken by the artist.

Repli-Kate IT kindly shared a link via WKW FB to the French Connection Sub Silky Tie Top which is the closest item to the blouse I've seen (following several searches). The lightweight top is currently on sale reduced from £57 to £28 and is available in antique lace, evergreen, navy and rust red.

French Connection

From the product description:

'French Connection lightweight tie-neck top is a soft drape style that simply exudes sophistication. Sub Silky Tie Top has a pussy-bow tie at neck, covered button placket through front and small cap sleeves. The top is demi-sheer.'

I'd like to thank Repli-Kate IT for this wonderful ID.

William and Kate were spotted at a service station on the M1 yesterday. No one snapped a photo, but Adam Burridge revealed they were driving a very muddy Land Rover. Perhaps the couple spent the weekend in the country with friends?

  1. Yeah! I was right. I had posted on this blog the baby should be born in July based on the info they gave out when she went into hospital It was clear she was not through the first 12 weeks at that time and my own counting backwards gave me a date the baby probably was conceived first of Nov. That would give a July birthday or possibly late June if I was off a tad or the baby comes early. Glad to know the child will have a summer birthday - that allows for outdoor birthday parties.

    1. I don't mean to sound mean, but it does puzzle me that people still don't get the "conception and pregnancy" thing. Pregnancy is a 10 months thing, not 9months. It is calculated by weeks-40weeks to be precise. As a physician it aggravates me that people still repeat the nine month thing.
If you factor that in, you can deduce she did not conceive in November.

      Delete
    2. So doctor you are saying she got pregnant in October? Wouldn't that make her around 14 weeks along? Just wondering. I knew it was 40 weeks but didn't understand why they always say 9 months.

      Delete
    3. Some months have five weeks so 9 months can be correct

My July 22 baby was conceived in October. Pauline, I am not a medical doctor, but I think sometimes people confuse that you actual start counting your pregnancy weeks by the first day of your last period, not when you actually conceived. Sorry Charlotte...now I am WAY off topic from Duchess Kate. :)

    5. No problem at all Kate, you're all more than welcome to discuss whatever topics arise during comments :)

    6. I should have explained myself earlier, sorry. A woman's date of delivery is based off the date of her last period. That is when the doctor begins to count down from. This is due to time of ovulation, and the life span of the egg and the sperm (once the shall we say "deposit" is made). So, in all actuality it is actually between 38-40weeks, depending on the cycle of the woman (every woman is different, some have 20, or 28 or 35 day cycles).
I don't want to bore/disgust you with the details, but, she should have conceived in October. The only way we can estimate is when she delivers, and even that if kinda iffy cos a full term delivery is considered anything between 37-41 weeks.

Well my first pregnancy was 3 weeks early, the second about perfect according to due date. My third was 3 weeks late.
Hopefully baby Cambridge doesn't keep any of us waiting especially William and Kate.

  2. I would think even if Wills is going to continue on with his RAF job, just the fact the couple will be taking up residence at Kensington Palace, they will have to have some of their own staff members beyond the one they hired thus far. While they can live without help in Angelsey, they cannot live that way in Kensington. Some of the Palace of course runs on other staff, but for their own private quarters, they will need staff just for that specific area and it's demands. A royal nanny/baby nurse should come in time also. While I expect Kate to be hands on mom, even a hands on mom will need help beyond Kate's mom.

  3. Oh Charlotte- Thank you for the fast post. It is very exciting that we finally know when the royal baby is due. I hope the baby is not born on Princess Diana's birthday and the reason I am saying this is because the baby need's his or her own day. And god for bid that the baby is born on Camilla's birthday in July. To me it would be a slap in the face to William's beloved mother.

The duchess is looking very beautiful and healthly. I hope she continues to get better. And then maybe she can return to Wales with William so they can enjoy this beautiful time in their lives. Now they know the baby is growing and developing like it is supposed to they can now go about their business as long as the Duchess is feeling better.

I can't imagine wot it must b like to have servants in some ways 'yey no house work full time spending with babe but would u ever really feel at ease with someone else in your house/space. I don't think I could. Not the life for me. All good wishes to u, love USA. X annabell , Richmond London

    2. Annabell- Thank you for the nice comment. I don't think I could have someone in my house 24/7. And I can't see William having them 24/7 either. We all know have private he is and protective he is of his Duchess and now his baby.

Maybe they will only have them when it is needed or only during the day. I can see the both not hiring a full time nanny but only when it is needed. I just hope that the Duchess's parents are involved with their grandchild. And I think they will be because of William.

I have never been to London but it is on my bucket list. Have you ever been to the States, if so where? I live in Southern California and have all my life. I am what is called a native Californian. Born & raised.

ACK! Oh Pauline, I never even thought about Camilla's birthday when I made my guess for a July 18th baby. UGH...not a big Camilla fan either. Hers is the 17th, so I think I need to change my guess date. Maybe I'll do July 22...that's my son's birthday. :) Diana's birthday was July 1, but I think that would be a bit early. I guess we'll just pray for a healthy baby. Whenever the birthday, it will definitely be a special day!

London is AMAZING!!! I have been several times. You must go if you have the chance! It's my favorite place in the world to visit!!!

    4. Pauline... Yes wouldn't this b nice if this baby was brought up without a full time nanny. A huge break with tradition. Yes I have been to USA, I loved Boston, went to Las Vegas , amazing, Disneyland California and San Francisco which I loved too. Since children we have travelled more in Europe, we took the children to lapland just b4 Xmas. Sorry charlotte for off the topic talk!! Nice to hear of others home countries. I'm amazed at how many different countries have represented on this blog. Annabell.

Annabell, I had the opportunity to visit the West Country this past summer while I was in England. My friend's husband was stationed in the UK with the Navy and they lived in Wroughton. She and I took off on several excursions and I absolutely loved it. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Life in the quaint little villages is definitely different than the hustle and bustle of London. I love hearing about other homelands also. So interesting and fun! Hoping to head back to England this summer....if my husband agrees to handle the kiddos without me. :)

    8. If anyone makes it to the UK this year I would recommend a little trip to Bath! I am biased because I live in Bath but it truly is a beautiful historic town; particularly if you like costume dramas as most Georgian era films are shot here!

Let me know you are coming and we will have a cup of tea together!

Louise, I would love to have tea with you! One of my favorite memories from being there last summer was all the wonderful people I met. Everyone was so friendly! I simply loved tea time and really miss having scones with clotted cream. SO very yummy! :)

    11. Kate, I live n between bath and Stonehenge. We love scones and clotted cream in r family! Only made some this week, if u want a recipe to make them I can oblige! We r expecting big snowfall tonight... Yey... Can't imagine the heat and warm climate u must experience. Jen. Wiltshire uk.

Jen, I probably passed by you on some of my excursions this summer. The West Country was really beautiful. Scones and clotted cream...I would LOVE the recipe! As I mentioned before I loved tea time! I told my husband that was reason enough to pack up and move to England! :)

So exciting that you are expecting snow. My kiddos ask constantly to fly somewhere so they can see snow. Such a foreign thing to Texans. We live close to Houston, so snow is very rare. When we do see it, it is always a tiny bit and it doesn't stick around. Heat and humidity is something we do have. It can get up to 105-110 degrees fahrenheit during the summer (40-43 degrees celsius). That's when you really just stay in the air condition to survive the summer! :) I was thankful to escape the heat this past summer and head across the pond!

I'll look forward to the recipe!

I'm so glad they have made the announcement, especially as they say the Duchess is feeling much better. Great news ! It seems Kate will be able to enjoy her pregnancy, which is terrific.

I do hope for everyone's sake the baby is not born on the same day as Lady Diana !!! A rather heavy past... Let it be it's own person, please !

YEA!!! I've been checking for an update all day! I suspected a July baby also having June and July babies myself. So, now the gender and name....
I am going to throw my guess out there for a boy on July 18 named Henry Michael William Charles. If it is a girl, I think Elizabeth Philippa Diana Carole (still think it's a boy).

As far as the portrait, my opinion hasn't changed and still not a fan. So far I have not read one critic who has liked it or given any good remarks. The beauty of it is art is subjective. Like it or not, no one is "right". I know there will be many portraits to come in the future. The positive is that William and Kate looked wonderful together and she seemed herself again. She looked like she felt really well. Hoping her second trimester will be bliss and without sickness!

Wondering when William's plans for the future will be announced? As stated above, seems to me he'll be leaving the RAF and becoming a full-time working Royal with hiring more staff. Guess we'll see. I am glad they are having some time together in between his work duties. I love how Adam stated his tweet of "casually bumping into Kate Middleton". That makes me laugh! I said in the last service station sighing post that I think I would be too in awe and shock to remember to even say hello, much less snap a pic!

Charlotte, I think it would be fun to all guess boy/girl, due date, name, etc. Maybe even closer to time throw in our guess of the weight of the baby. Just for fun!!!

I wonder which side of the M1 they were---if going North, may have been going to Amglesey.
Much as we would all like to see a lot of Catherine, I hope she continues to rest as taking care of herself and the baby is the only thing that really matters.
If there is any truth in the stories about the house in Norfolk, it would appear that William will be leaving the Air Sea Rescue.

    1. Initially I didn't think the picture had much likeness to the duchess , too grey too old, however since seeing that picture above, the likeness is remarkable, although he has painted her in more of a grimace and his colouring of the portrait is more dull. Lovely photo of kate and I like the top! Rachel. Boston USA

I am so happy the due date is in July. A summer baby can be celebrated so much better than January when it is so cold outside. I bet they were happy when they saw a picture of their baby for the first time. I hope William stays as a RAF he truly loves his work. Best wishes to William and Catherine. 11. Hello Ms. Charlotte- Is there any news on what William's plans are. Thought we would hear the same thime they gave out the Duchess due date. Since they are hiring staff it gives me the idea that he plans on leaving the RAF and they becoming full time royals. I can't see William doing anything that would take him away for any length of time from his Duchess and their new born baby.

I think it a strong possibility William will leave the RAF and move to London permanently however I wouldn't be sure he is ready for full time duties. A role with the Household Cavalry seems a likely possibility.
