Are You Dreaming Of A Black & Bright Christmas?, 15% Discount For Readers

I have been inundated with emails from readers requesting a post about the wonderful British brand BLACK.

Black.co.uk is a premier online accessories and gift boutique for women, men and home. Since its launch in 2006 BLACK has established a reputation for outstanding quality, exclusive packaging and unrivalled customer service. The signature palette of the Black collection is soft and neutral, whilst that of the Bright by Black is bold and vibrant.

I had been in contact with BLACK following the Remembrance Sunday appearance, and when I told the company's director Toby Logue I intended to write a detailed post about the brand he very kindly offered to give 'Duchess Kate' readers 15% off any purchase from their Black and Bright collections until December 23rd. Let's take a look at both of these collections beginning with BLACK's perfect gifts for the holiday season.

BLACK

I know quite a number of you have already ordered the Black Bow Satin Lycra Gloves (they are now back in stock). The gloves are designed by royal glove maker Cornelia James and stocked by BLACK. For those of you who haven't or are considering ordering I received mine last week and thought I would share my thoughts and a couple of photos. Firstly they arrived beautifully packaged....

The short cocktail gloves are simply lovely; they're made from satin Lycra with a pretty bow at the wrist and feel gorgeous to wear. The gloves are stretchy ensuring a snug fit for various hand sizes (I have small hands and they fit perfectly; equally they suited my friend's larger hands and she described them as "the most comfortable gloves" she's worn). I was surprised at how wearable they are, ideal for weddings, parties and are, as the Duchess demonstrated, a perfect addition to a winter look when teamed with a coat.

The gloves are available in BlackIvory and Navy for £38. They are currently on backorder with more stock due to arrive on December 5th.

BLACK

BLACK is well known for it's collection of best-selling gloves including leather, long, short, silk, ballerina and driving. After looking through their silk and evening gloves collection I was instantly reminded of 'Downton Abbey'. The Crawley sisters timeless sense of style is being emulated everywhere at the moment. From the red carpet to black tie events to cocktail parties, ladies are completing their look with a stylish pair of gloves.

ITV
Three stunning pairs of gloves from BLACK which I think are very 'Downton' are the £36 Long Ivory Fine Lace Gloves, the £25 Short Ivory Fine Lace Gloves and the £22 Short Silver lurex Evening Gloves.

We know Duchess Kate is a huge fan of the ITV period drama and I would love to see her wearing long black gloves with one of her evening gowns.

ITV
The Long Black Satin Lycra Gloves immediately caught my eye. The classic evening gloves were featured in ELLE Magazine and are available for £47. Other black evening gloves include the £32 Black Elbow Length Gloves With Leopard Print Bracelet, the satin-lycra Peek-a-Bow Cocktail Gloves (currently reduced from £79 to £59.25) and the £59 Black Satin Ballerina Gloves.

BLACK

Something I love about BLACK is the elegance of their pieces and when I saw their Ladies Driving Gloves (an item I haven't seen around much) I thought of 'To Catch a Thief' starring Grace Kelly.

Channel your inner Grace Kelly with £38 Black Leather Driving Gloves made from hairsheep leather (which is known as the finest glove leather for its unique softness and strength), the £67 Italian Leather Driving Gloves With Multi Colour Detail or the £59 Leather Fingerless Gloves.

BLACK

BLACK's collection of Scarves, Shawls and Pashminas features a host of elegant designs and finishes, including cashmere shawls in metallic, cream, black, stripe and herringbone.

BLACK

With the party season fast approaching accessorising the perfect dress is never a simple task (I'm sure all of you ladies will agree with me). Any of the wraps and evening scarves below would add glitz and glamour to an outfit. Many of the cashmere and silk pieces are sprayed with little white Swarovski crystals. We've looked at a selection of beautiful pieces thus far but I think these might be the most striking yet.

BLACK

These chic Clutch Bags would look amazing with any of the evening scarves above.

BLACK

A piece of Statement Jewellery would complete the look nicely. BLACK's jewellery collection features onyx, amazonite and gold vermeil bracelets and black Tahitian pearls.

BLACK

A look at the leather belts.

BLACK

BLACK do not cater for ladies only, and in fact they have a terrific collection of accessories for men. There is something for all men in the BLACK Men's Collection beginning with a look at the leather gloves.

BLACK

Swarovski Crystal ties. Perfect for Christmas.

BLACK

The Dress and Evening Scarves Collection for men are made from pure Italian silk, all set to dazzle and emanate sartorial sophistication.

BLACK

The collection is very much a nod to old school style. I mentioned Grace Kelly in 'To Catch A Thief' above, and the men's scarves reminded me of her co-star, the always dapper and charismatic Cary Grant.

Charlotte you might want to share this website with your readers that like the Downtown Abbey dresses. (vintagestyledresses.com) by Nataya. I know a lot of younger ladies prefer the shorter look though (which is quit cute.) I love the raspberry matching gloves and hat from Black. These are great ideas for my Christmas shopping! Thank you for getting us the great deal:)

  10. Just bought the gloves!

Fab post I love to see labels exuding 1950s glamour and Grace Kelly was super beautiful. I've always wanted to emulate her style. This label is such a treat and it was super nice of them to give us Kate fans the discount.

I have a black tie work party coming up in a couple of weeks a pair of long gloves would really polish off the look. The dress is 1950s style and plum. Any ideas ladies?

I don't have many reasons to wear these gloves but I love them anyway. I live in the country and we wear mustly jeans, boots, t-shirts and sweatshirts.

But I do have family that live in the city who I might buy a pair for if the shippin gto the US is not to much.

Again thank you Charlotte for this great post. You are the best. Oh the Duchess just added another engagement to her already busy December. It is December 17th, a party at the Palace that she & William will be attending along with all the other royals.

  13. Hi Charlotte,

I'm thinking of ordering a couple of pairs and saw you said the gloves are often worn for weddings. I have a couple of weddings next Spring and wanted to know if you thought I could wear them? I'm thinking of getting two different colours.

I have rather chubby fingers. Do you think they would fit? Thanks for sharing your own pictures Charlotte it helped me make up my mind about ordering. Often clothing looks different in 'real life' but the gloves look awesome in your photos.

    1. Thank you for your comment Julie :)

As for sizing, they would definitely fit. The material is very stretchy and will accommodate various hand sizes whilst remaining a snug fit.
They would be perfect for Spring weddings. I read on the BLACK blog they are most commonly wore for parties, weddings and events like Ascot.

    2. You're the best. I love that we can ask you questions about the gloves before ordering, sometimes it's hard to tell when you order online. I ordered two pairs and I'm very excited.

The promo code is great and BLACK obviously have terrific taste in choosing sites to work with. THANK YOU for your help Charlotte.

  15. Hi, I've never commented yet but I love your blog.
I've been thinking about buying the gloves for some time now and I was wondering, since you have them, if they keep your fingers really warm or not? I always have cold hands and in the winter it's worse, even if I wear gloves it doesn't change anything :/

    1. Hi Cath, firstly thank you for commenting and please continue to share your thoughts (I love comments :))

I'm actually like you, I'm always very cold. I wore the gloves out on a very cold day and must say I did find them warm. What I love about them is the fact they're warm yet not too thick particularly if you're running errands, shopping etc

On another note, have you discussed the coldness in your hands with your doctor? If not, my own doctor gave me some great tips, I'd be more than happy to share.

  17. Lovely group of accessories. I grew up in the 50's when we did not go out on a nice shopping trip or for any holiday event without gloves, hat and our purse and shoes always had to match! Then when I was in high school in the 60's the long evening gloves that go up the arm to the mid upper arm were all that you wore to high school formal dances. This was before latex so they needed a lot of management. Mine had the most amazing long row of little pearl buttons that fastened them tight around your upper hand and wrist and the row of these pearls extend up a few inches into the forearm. I adored wearing them and often tried them on even when there was no formal dance coming up! I love these lycra gloves with the bows on them. Despite I don't need a more formal set of gloves much, my upbringing has me always keeping a nice pair of good black gloves for winter when I might go to the theater or a symphony and my outfit would be ruined if I wore heavy woolen gloves! I always feel like such a lady when I do wear formal gloves.

  22. She is pregnant! It's officially been announced. Just under 12 weeks. Kate is in the hospital for hyper emesis - (vomiting from morning sickness). It's a situation that cannot be managed at home and one does need to be in the hospital for IV fluids and IV management of the morning sickness. I am an OB RN and clinical laboratory scientist. This is not very common that a lady needs to be admitted for this diagnosis.

We were right with our comments on November 25th - YEAH Kate is pregnant!!

You wouldn't believe how the British media has gone into overdrive over here - amazing tour footage that I've never seen before is everywhere - LOL!!

I already feel for Kate though as it sounds like it's very early days and she'll need to rest so I think she'll retreat from public life and rest so we won't see as much of her.
