Before the match the Duke and Duchess met with beneficiaries of the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust, which supports injured former players.

More from The Telegraph story:
'The Duchess shared a joke with Paul Davies, 50, a former Lance Corporal with the Royal Welch Fusiliers, who was paralysed from the chest down when a scrum during an Army rugby match collapsed, dislocating his neck and crushing his spinal cord when he was 20. Mr Davies, went on to manage the Great Britain wheelchair rugby team at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics, and was awarded the MBE last year for services to wheelchair rugby and Army veteran charities'.
Prince William became the Vice Royal Patron of Welsh Rugby Union in 2007 and has called Welsh island Anglesey his second home since January 2010. Needless to say William and Kate are big supporters of the team.

Interestingly, Prince William visited the All Blacks training camp in Auckland in 2005 and enjoyed a chat with the team.
It proved to be a tense match with Wales doing their utmost to beat the mighty All Blacks but the dragons were defeated. It has been a trying season for the Welsh team who have lost their last five matches and haven't beaten New Zealand in almost sixty years. (with thanks to my fiancé for match updates, yours truly knows nothing about rugby :))

Amazingly speedy as usual - well done.
ReplyDeleteShe looks great. Is she wearing the original belt, rather than the one she wore to Denmark?
yes, she's wearing the original belt (i asked the exact same question; see below :) )
Deletei posted a link below to the mirror's article which includes better pics.
thank you Alpa.
DeleteOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am screaming with joy!!!! I think I might faint!!! I have NEVER won anything in my life and although I entered the contest, and of course dreamt of winning, with all he people that entered, I never thought I would win! I just scrolled down and there was my name!!!!! I am BEYOND excited...thank you so much. I cannot WAIT to put on my new pirouettes! OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Sarah :)
DeleteCongratulations Sarah! I'm really happy for you! It's FANTASTIC !

Congratulations Sarah!!! How fun! :)
DeleteCongratulations Sarah!yay Yay!:))
DeleteCongratulations Sarah; your delight brightens the evening (well along with pictures of Catherine of course).
DeleteCongratulations Sarah you must be sooo excited. I'm very happy for you!
DeleteCongrats to you, Sarah !!! Enjoy ;)
DeleteHi Sarah,
DeleteI never win anything either so I share your excitement - it was a lovely giveaway and your entry makes you a very deserving winner!
Enjoy your new shoes!!
PPx
Yay for you, Sarah! Have fun wearing those great shoes and enjoy your win! :o)
DeleteJulie
Thank you all so much!!! You are too sweet!!!
DeleteI really like the red coat but I expected something more casual for a rugby game...
ReplyDeleteShe was there in an official capacity - William is Vice Royal PAtron of the Welsh Rugby Team and supports the Welsh Rugby Charitable TRust.
DeleteAll of the people they met were wearing the same dress code - Coats/Suits for the women; jacket and tie for the men. So she and William were dressed appropriately IMO
I think she chose the red coat to support the Welsh team, many people in the stands were wearing their red jerseys :)
Deletev nice! is she wearing the belt which comes with the coat (as shown in the pic modeled)? i like this belt more than the one she wore to denmark.
ReplyDeletebtw, more and clearer pics, with clear shots of kate's outfit (with the belt shown!) on mirror:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/kate-middleton-and-prince-william-at-wales-1455196
Watching the video, i always wonder how she always comes up with things to say to people on the spot, or relevent questions to ask, exhausting!!
ReplyDeleteObviously down to all her research and behind the scenes work ! Marvellous !
DeleteIt's not researched by her... That's why they pay advisors! ! Hate will have run through who will be there and what to talk about! Remember the engagement interview... She was hardly articulate when unscripted!!
DeleteOch!! I thought that was what she was doing in all this behind the scenes stuff, research etc. she works so hard.
DeleteThis coat is such a good color. Not a huge fan of the clutch, but I like her new hairstyle! She looks great!
ReplyDeleteI like the straighter hair! It looks a little bit like she just didn't have it blown-out in her usual curls today, but it's nice on her. I always liked her long bangs in the pre-engagement days, nice to see them back!
ReplyDeleteKate recycled again, and she looks gorgeous. The straighter hair looks better on her. I also noticed side fringes, she's experimenting with her hairstyle.I loved that picture where she has the bouquet of flowers in her hand and she's turning to look at William. She looks WOW in that pic. Thank you Charlotte for this awesome update, and Congratulations Sarah on winning London Sole shoes!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!! Straighter hair !! At last!
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlotte for this great post. I love her hair. Again the Duchess is looking so beautiful. The picture where she is looking up to William is priceless. I love the expression on her face, just so loving.
ReplyDeleteNow can't wait until Tuesday to see what she will be wearing.
I agree pauline isn't it swell to c a couple sooo in love!! Magic!
DeleteThe lovely "Lady in Red". I like the coat, especially with the original belt.
ReplyDeleteShe is so impressive, comfortable with everyone, young and old and makes everyone around her seem so happy.
Do like her hair--she doesn't have to push it from her face so much. It's nice straight, though I think she fights a losing battle as in the end it curls, though I do believe the one here which shows her hair curly was from Denmark as her clutch is black.
Thanks Charlotte for being so speedy--saw her on BBC2 as the rugby was starting, but only a quick view.
I love the hair, I think it's a more youthful, trendy look for Kate and quite similar to her hairstyle around the time of the engagement.
DeleteI watched the rugby on BBC2 and hadn't a clue about the game but I did see William and Kate a couple of times. They looked like they were enjoying the game :)
Super couple, so caring and a joy to see. The British public must be so proud of them. My heart would fill with pride if they were r first family. Janet. Boston. USA
DeleteLove that coat. I have been in need of a new winter coat but what color to get. Black green tan gray white and then there is the beautiful red. Kate as usual looks lovely. Kate would be smart not to do anything to drastic with her hair. I just got my hair cut reeealy short. I'm thinking it was a bit much. Can't imagine everyone else telling me that too. Ha.
DeleteCharlotte do people dress up a lot for different sporting events in England? I was surprised by the suit and tie thing for the men. I love dressing up. So I don't have a problem with it. Much better then here where some people wear their p.j.s out to the grocery store. That I have a hard time understanding.
Generally people are pretty casual for sporting events but William and Kate were there in an official capacity so because they were representing the royal family they went with a formal dress code.
DeleteI would go with a black coat, I find mine works with everything :)
Not a fan of the hair 'wings'... I don't think of those as bangs. It's too little to really make much difference in what many keep saying about how she needs to have her hair pulled off her face (like half up and half down for example)...she is so hidden by her hair often times and such a lovely face needs to show itself off! I saw a photo from last year where they pulled one side (right side) of her hair back and it was pinned. Just looked fab and still was a completely down do which she really favors it's clear (wait until she has kids and they are grabbing at that hair all the time. My guess is we will see her with her hair pulled up and back a whole lot at that point! Love the red coat - perfect for this time of yr and the event with the Welsh team. Thanks for the speedy posting..and thanks for as always such complete reporting on her fashion/accessories.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder what dress Kate wears under her long coats. This one appears to be a high necked black one, but I wish we could see what it actually looks like.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Kate cut her bangs again, they frame her face wonderfully & it's probably easier to control. I don't really like it strait though, I always liked her hair with big wavy curls, rather than straight or just tight curls in the end. Kate as always looks wonderful though.
-Brit
Hi!
ReplyDeleteThis time I have actually loved that coat. But when she wore it during her visit to Denmark, I didn't like it at all! Now I know that it was due to the belt.
I love her new hairstyle, way more modern... Even though I love her curls!
I would like to congratulate Sarah, the winner! Your comment was very adorable to read!
Hope you're having a great weekend!
Hugs!
Hi Ana B.,
DeleteYou deserve "The Most Observant" prize for being the first to spot Kate's "fringe" (bangs)! And I really think I like the new "do" a lot!
Lynn
USA
Hello, Lynn!
DeleteYou are such a lovely lady! Thank you for your kindness!
I really love her new hairstyle!
Have a nice week!
Hugs ;)
Hi Ana B - I second your nomination for the 'Most Observant' !!! - at the time of my post to you I went back to look at the 'fringe' & thought that the fringe was just loose hair from her clip - I thought Kate's do was a bit sloppy & that was not like Kate. .. I welcome any change in hairdo - it's softer & updated as others are saying...I love it!
DeleteCongrats to Sarah! !! ENJOY!
Oh, Kristin! Thank you! You are a very kind lady!
DeleteJust read Catherine will take a new engagement on December 5! What a busy schedule they have these next weeks!
Thank you she looks gorgeous except I prefer her with the curls in her hair than the straight blow out.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE KATE'S HAIR!! It makes her look younger and just updates her whole look! It looks like she's had a few layers cut around her face, which lightens that hair just hanging there considerably! Great outfit and awesome to Kate for sticking with what she knows works for her, is warm, comfortable and what she likes. I have serious boot envy and I have loved that coat since I saw her in it at the UNICEF event! Love this look!
ReplyDeleteKate looks beautiful and relaxed!!! I love her straight hair, but not too big on the bangs. It definitely makes her look younger. Wondering if we'll see the straight hair more often?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE her coat!!! I have mentioned before, but being from Texas, we just don't wear coats often and definitely have no need for a wardrobe of coats. I love them all and love that she recycled this one from her visit to Denmark. The red is so vibrant and beautiful!
Looking forward to seeing what Kate looks like on Tuesday! Congrats Sarah on winning the contest!!! Enjoy!!!
Kate from Texas
I forgot to ask in my last post, but wondering after watching the ITN video why only a couple people would bow or curtsey when meeting Will and Kate? I know they are a little more relaxed, but I thought it was proper protocol when greeting any Royal. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteKate from Texas
Times have moved on... Britain is no longer the place for bowing and scraping to over privileged royals who spend most of their time shopping!!
DeleteHi Kate,
DeleteYou are correct it is proper protocol to curtsey, I certainly would! They curtsey to each other as appropriate....
My personal view would be if you don't feel it's appropriate to curtsey and you don't support the royal family don't meet them.
PPx
some years ago, the palace stated that it is acceptable to just bow your head from the neck, and not bow from the waist or curtsy.
Deletealpa you are pretty close...
DeleteThe official website: http://www.royal.gov.uk/HMTheQueen/GreetingtheQueen/Overview.aspx
states:
"Before meeting Her Majesty, many people ask how they should behave. The simple answer is that there are no obligatory codes of behaviour - just courtesy.
However, many people wish to observe the traditional forms of greeting.
For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way."
I don't c why anyone should bow or curtesy. It's humiliating. No matter of which family we are born into or if we have titles or not we are all human. A handshake and polite acknowledgement is enough. I have great respect for the queen, the other members have a long way to go to get that respect. Having said that I still would not curtesy or bow to hm queen.
DeleteI do not care for the new hair style - prefer to see her with big curls. min
ReplyDeleteHaving seen this I do now think the black coat photo on Kings Road from the other day due to the bangs, Kate does look different with them.
ReplyDeleteI can't help hoping she's pregnant as she looks so much fuller in the face and maybe it's me but that coat was belted so much tighter on the Denmark trip...
PPx
The fullness could be from the self belt on the coat. Self-belts tend not to belt as tightly as the wider, leather belt did. As for the fullness, maybe the palace PR machine started to be concerned at all the chatter about Kate's starved appearance this past spring, summer and fall, especially recalling Diana's bulimia issues as a new princess. Having an "athletic" figure is one thing, looking emaciated is quite another. And if she's trying to get pregnant, it would make sense she's put on a bit of weight to encourage and sustain a pregnancy.
DeleteHi Penelope- I too think she look's like she is pregnant. I looked at a picture with the other belt in last Novemember and the Duchess looked real thin. Now the Duchess look's fuller in the face and in the tummy area. She is just glowing. And the belt she has on now is much looser.
DeleteLet's just hope it is true. Can't wait until we hear from either William & Catherine or from the Palace.
My sentiments too pauline and Penelope. A royal baby would b the icing on the cake!! Lets keep r fingers crossed. Such love is priceless.
DeleteJanet Boston USA
My hair is identical in thickness and strand thickness. You may think it's a wonderful to have such hair, but there is very little styles that it can be cut into. My hair also has a natural wave which has to be blow dried out and layers cut into. Lovely to look at but oh so difficult to keep tamed. If I had the money to go to a salon every day I would, it's the only way to keep it groomed. My hair takes 1 1/2 to cut and 3/4 to style. You nedd herculian arms!lol
ReplyDeleteOver the last couple of years when I go to the hairdresser I see young girls having their hair blown in a "Kate". It seems to take ages.
DeleteMorning Jean, I too live in Lancashire beautiful county! To be honest I haven't encountered any customers in my salon wanting the 'Kate', mine has been in the same style varying length from shoulder to mid back length (where it is now). I have to be honest it spends most of its time tied up as it over takes the face. Kate is lucky to have height on her side, it always in my opinion looks better on a tall girl! Helena
DeleteHi! I just want to offer you a big thumbs up for your great info you have got right here on this post.
ReplyDeleteI will be coming back to your blog for more soon.
My web site ; get your ex boyfriend back
I like the hair style very much and the coat was a great choice for the day. I also enjoy seeing how delighted people are to meet this couple. It's something we hadn't seen in YEARS.
ReplyDeleteI believe those are the earrings she wore in Malaysia with the white ball gown. I love the way she interchanges her accessories with all kinds of different outfits. She's a master at it!
ReplyDeleteLynn
Oh my!! How r kate and William coping with the flooding of their Anglesey garden?! They r in my thoughts. Janet. Boston USA
ReplyDeleteHow awful for them. R they really in Anglesey with no housekeeper /servants to help. I hope they come through this. They were late for their engagement yesterday due to the weather. True troopers to carry on regardless of their own selves. Wonderful example.
ReplyDeleteWow. Such an amazing couple, I hope their home is not ruined. Nature is a strong force. Love n hugs to those young folks
DeleteI enjoy watching the antics and the fashion of the royal family but ... really? Panic that Will and Kate have a flooded garden??? W/all due respect, there are thousands of folks in the U.S. East Coast, including New Jersey and New York, dealing with loss of loved ones, loss of homes and businesses and all their belongings. Flooded gardens rate, well, somewhere next to a hangnail. And as for being "troopers," I'm sure this won't get posted as nothing critical of the royals and/or Will and/or Kate seems to make it through the censor here, but they have multiple luxurious houses in which to stay and hordes of staff at Kensington to help them.
DeleteJemima - If you have read the comments you will see there are a lot of critical comments here.
DeleteJemima
DeleteThere was a great deal of sympathy for the victims of the US storms in this country, but I fail to see why we should not also have concern for people in our own country suffering from the effects of the weather. Flooding in the garden is too frequently the precursor to a flooded home and whether a Duke or a dustman, the loss of one's home is a tragedy, though I accept it might seem to be easier the wealthier one is---though there are some things money cannot replace.
No William & Catherine do not have servants in their home in Wales. I do believe Catherine might have a housekeeper. And I would think they might have to hire a few servants when the move into their apt. next year. But I bet it will be just enough to help but no more. They are very private couple. Catherine like' to do alot of the things herself, like cooking.
Delete@Jemima- Why be so nasty regarding a remark William made regarding the garden being flooded. All he was doing was ewxplaining to someone why they were late for their engagement. And nobody here was comparing their flooded garden to what happened here in the States. Regular readers of this blog really do care about this beautiful couple and in their opinions feel sorry for the flooding of their garden and might not know what is going on here in the States. There are alot of international readers of this great blog. So let's not get nasty, OK?
This is just my opinion.
I think that the different hairstyle of the Duchess is simply due to the fact that she blow-dried herself her hair (she was in Cardiff far away from her trusted Londoner hair salon). This is why her hair are like the pre-engagement days.
ReplyDeleteYou could be right , I doubt her hairdresser could get through from London due to the bad weather conditions the uk has suffered this last week. My heart goes out to anyone that has been flooded btw, dreadful. Keep warm and safe. X
DeleteHi Charlotte,
ReplyDeleteI'm a little late to comment on the post. :)
But just wanted to say that Kate looks wonderful although I prefer her big wavy hair... Also I'm not a fan of the clutch... But that coat is superb with the original belt!
She's glowing, and she does a perfect job interacting with other people: that's really the main issue.
See you tomorrow!
Z.
Jemima - I agree with you 100% except for the so-called "censor" here; I think Charlotte has been wonderful at allowing some less-than-Kate-congratulatory posts through and that has really contributed to some great discussions.
ReplyDelete-Sarah
Who are we to say whether ones suffering is worse than another. The uk's storms can't be compared in severity to hurricane sandy but they still have caused loss of life and suffering for those concerned. Compassion please fellow bloggers.
DeleteBravo well said. Any suffering needs a kind response and heart. Loving Kate's hair, can't wait to c the engagements this week. On serious baby bump watch! Poor kate. Sorry we are all awaiting that wonderful news!
DeleteHi guys -
DeleteI think a lot of our disagreement stems from why we like to follow Kate. I bet there's a lot of people who like to follow her because she's glamorous and beautiful and living a fantasy life (at least in some ways) that we can only imagine. For me, I like to follow her because I like that she's down-to-earth, does things like planting her own potatoes, shops at stores that we do, etc. despite being royal. So for me it's not so much of I don't feel sorry for them that their garden flooded (been there done that, and it's not fun), but more that comments along the lines of "oh no!!! Kate and William don't even have servants!! They have a flooded garden AND they have to go on with life!! They're SO AMAZING because of that!!" are a little ?? to me, since I don't view them as being that different from us save for a twist of fate. But that's just my opinion :)
At any rate, I get that this is at its core a Kate-fan site, and I understand I might have overstepped that line. Sorry, I'll try to restrain myself in the future.
-Sarah
Not at all Sarah, constructive comments like yours are always most welcome. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
DeleteI thought my comment was also constructive but you did not publish it. I did not want to offend others. I just rewrote you comment Charlotte changing one single word.
DeleteIt shows that all men are equal but some are more equal than orhers. Firstly I thought I had said something bad, then it took me a few days to understand that it was not true. And now I am only dissapointed by the fact that someone could misunderstand my intention.
I did not stop following your blog as I still believe that when it comes to the content it is the best blog in the Internet.
Be consistent and do not publish my comment.
Wish you all the best, really :)
New Engagement ALert! The Duchess of Cambridge is to visit her old prep school, St Andrew’s in Pangbourne, Berks, and open a new Astroturf pitch on Nov 30.
ReplyDeleteKate will meet staff and pupils at her old school and the hockey team. She played hockey at St Andrew’s during her time there from 1986-1995 --- YEY!!! Another one!!!
I think as women we react to things maybe too quickly. If you don't then I sure wish I had your calm nature. Sandy was horrible so was the recent storms in Wales. Watched news footage (Wales) and saw the dearest older gentleman so thankful for the postal man that saved his life. Then their was those rushing about to put up what? pictures precious memories.
ReplyDeleteLove those photos of the duchess love recyle her dress again im looking forward in her next outing

ReplyDeleteCan anyone identify the gold bracelet Kate is wearing on her right wrist?
ReplyDeleteEve
I believe the gold bracelet you are talking about is one that Camilla gave the Duchess when she married Prince William. It has a "C" witha crown over the C. It is a very nice piece.
DeleteWhat time is the event today please?
ReplyDeleteHi, I believe within the next hour.
DeleteThankyou, I thought originally it was during the day so when I logged on and saw there was no post wondered
