Kate Attends Christening, Hen Night Details and Kate's Next Engagement

Good evening Duchess Kate readers,

There were a number of sightings of Kate at Birchanger Green service station in Hertfordshire yesterday.

A number of popular stores are located in the area including Waitrose, WHSmith and Starbucks. It is a very convenient stop off for motorists wishing to purchase fuel and a quick snack for their journey.

The next sighting of Kate was at a Church in Wandsworth where the Duchess reportedly attended a christening. As far as I know at this time there were no photos taken at the event. Many are speculating Kate may have been godmother.

During her final days as Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge dressed up as singer Cheryl Cole and performed her hit Fight For This Love for her friend according to Cheryl who discussed chatting with William and Kate after the Diamond Jubilee Concert in her autobiography.

'At the afterparty following the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert in June, Wills said with a cheeky look in his eye 'Do you know you've got a bit of competition?' 'From who?' said Cheryl.
Wills looked at Kate and they both started laughing before Kate confessed that she dressed up as me on her hen night, in a body suit and split trousers and sang Fight For This Love.
She even learned the dance routine which was step perfect by all accounts, as her sister Pippa and brother James also came over and told me all about it'.

Given Cheryl's involvement with the The Prince's Trust, I would be inclined to think this story is true. It sounds like a very fun night indeed :) Cheryl's autobiography is available for £10 at Amazon.

Kate will join the Queen and Prince Philip on October 23 for a reception for Team GB athletes. From The Royal Blog:

'The reception is in honour of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic stars, with all medallists among the 350 invited. It will be a very plush affair and there are a few athletes more than a little excited about the chance to see the inside of the Palace'.

It has been a year of tremendous sporting success for Team GB and it's a fitting way to honour them.

Wow Charlotte, thank you for the great post. I was wondering what the beautiful Duchess has been up to, hope she was getting some rest with William. Do you know why William will not be in attendance on the 23rd? Also I read where William will be attending a dinner on the 17th again no word if the Ducehss will be with him. It is real funny that she is not been with him during his last few dinners. And I am not saying anything is wrong, just wondering why she has not be with him. It is always nice seeing them together, they make sucha loving couple. Just love them two...lol

  3. I would love to see Kate dressed up as Cheryl Cole, but only if she released them herself. I'm sick of all these tabloids printing pictures of things obviously meant to be kept private. But I bet Kate looked fabulous on her hen night! -Brit

  4. Sooo glad Kate was able to avoid all of us camera hungry people. Just think to be able to go out and not worry about all the critiques. Although she seems confident enough in herself not to be terribly concerned. They are a beautiful couple and I. wish the best for them.

  8. They still have their own friends, and good for them. The fact that she went solo so he could go to his nanny's funeral, and I had already heard that she had a prior engangment for the 100 women in hedge funds. They did a lot last week, and William has his RAF duty. And if she had a close girlfriend and was a Godmother, and William working. I don't see a rift. I see a partnership.

    1. I couldn't agree more.

I'm glad the christening took place without intrusion from photographers. I could just see the headlines if they got a photo of Kate holding a baby. OMG.....

    2. I so agree. I see a partnership too. William has his work and Kate has chosen the things she wants to support. How rude it would have been for a photographer to go uninvited into a mosque synogogue or church uninvited and take pictures. A little respect for ones privacy that's all anyone needs. Star Queen Neighbor Teacher or who ever you are.

  9. It was funny to read that she dressed up as Cheryl Cole. But I have to say that I don't like the fact that she (Cheryl Cole) published it in her biography and it is now used for her publicity. It's my opinion...

  10. It is a tribute to everyone-the Duchess, her family, her friends, the Palace-that she maintains the air of mystery that she does. I like that....!!

We all have construed in our minds who she is based on her public persona, but none of us know what she's like behind closed doors. I never would have imagined the Duchess karaoke-ing in costume!!! Funny.

Thanks for this post. It's been a crazy week and this space really gives me some fun "girl time".

BTW-I'm from California (since everyone has been posting where they're from!)

  11. Hey!
I just read an article in a German magazine called "Bunte", that Kate designed on of her South-Pacific-Tour dresses herself and it was then made by the Queen's dressmaker... What do you think Charlotte? Could this be possible? The article does not name sources, only that other magazines were already reporting on this.

I really love reading your blog, it always makes my day! Best wishes from Germany,
    Jenna

    1. Thank you for your lovely words about the blog Jenna

I have heard the primrose dress was made by the Queen's dressmaker and Kate had a significant amount of input into the design. It does seem a logical explanation because any designer would want the recognition and inevitable soar in sales that would come from Kate wearing one of their pieces.

    2. I've thought for awhile that "independent dressmaker" meant that Kate designed it. :)

I have deleted some comments from this post because once again the conversation is developing into another disagreement about does Kate work enough or not. Apologies to those of you who wish to continue discussing it but I do have to be fair to all the readers, thank you!

Thank you Charlotte for stepping in and ending this conversation regarding how much the Duchess works or does not. I am sorry I should have not even re-started defending the Duchess again. But you know me.

  13. Dear Charlotte,

I found an article from the "Telegraph" implying that Kate "could become a full-time working member of the Royal family as soon as next summer".

    Here is the link:

As a foreigner, I would be delighted to know your own thoughts on this matter.

    Best regards,

    1. Hi Monica,

It all depends on whether or not William decides to spend another three years with the RAF. If he chooses not to, I expect we will see William and Kate taking on more duties and quite possibly becoming full time royals.

William should make his decision and announce it by the end of the year :)

  14. I would think the monarchy has many ardent fans such as Pauline or it's place in society would not be as concrete as it appears to be today. However, I find the interesting discussion to be on how the monarchy will evolve, maybe even some radical changes (?), when William is King and beyond as I think the sentiments posted here about the influence and actions of Will&Kate et.al. will continue to grow, particularly in a time of recession and great struggle for so many and an age where discourse on the topic is so easy with one other via the web and social media.

  15. PS. That said, I said, I love the fashion, glamour and class of the Cambridges. Keep it coming Charlotte!
