William and Kate Visit War Memorial For Final Singapore Engagement

William and Kate's final engagement in Singapore was a sombre one with the couple visiting Kranji Commonwealth War Cemetery

Thousands of British and other Commonwealth servicemen lost their lives in the defence of Singapore and the subsequent occupation by Japanese forces and as future King and Queen Consort the Duke and Duchess wished to pay tribute to their sacrifice.

The pipers played to herald William and Kate's arrival.

There are 4,641 World War II casualties buried or commemorated at the cemetery, of which more than 850 of these are unidentified. There are 64 World War I headstones, of which three commemorate casualties known to have been buried elsewhere but whose graves could not be found.

William and Kate specifically asked to pay their respects to UK and Australian Z special unit heroes. The Duchess carried a parasol, no doubt the heat and humidity is difficult for the couple who are used to a much cooler climate.

The Duke and Duchess laid a wreath made of local flowers at the War Memorial and met with veterans and serving military from Singapore, Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

Kate wore a pale green (described as duck egg blue by the palace) pleated shirtdress by UK designer Jenny Packham. The bespoke dress has some lace on the upper part.

Kate wore her go to LK Bennett Sledge Pumps.

The visit marks the end of Their Royal Highnesses visit to Singapore. The couple leaving Raffles hotel this morning.

The couple will travel on a scheduled flight to Kulala Lumpur, Malaysia , where they will be met at the International airport by representatives of the Malaysian government and the British High Commission. The royals will attend a lunch hosted by the Prime Minister and visit Hospis Malaysia where Kate will make her first overseas speech. In the evening William and Kate will attend a state dinner at His Majesty The Agong's official residence. Could this be the tiara moment we've all been waiting for? It's going to be an amazing day......

  1. Great posts!! I just have a question... What are your thoughts on the rumors that Kate is pregnant? I'm not much into believing all the gossip but some of the pictures in your posts show Kate with a little bump. It could be the dress or the way she's standing or... She's so slim that I would think when she does become pregnant it will be hard to hide for any length of time.

    1. I think photos of Kate in that dress will send the rumour mill into overdrive :)

I would be very surprised if Kate is pregnant now although I wouldn't rule it out.

  4. I love that dress. Very classy and simple. Also, I hate to speculate, but in that last photo there appears to be the start of a "bump."

  5. Hmmmm... The photo of William and Kate observing the moment of silence is the first time I am taking the pregnancy rumor seriously. :)

  6. Okay I am never one to speculate that Kate is pregnant. However I can't help but notice her belly in the last pic!(the moment of silence one) I have never seen her with any kind of stomach pooch at all. The toasting with water seems to be making sense now. I don't know for sure but we can only hope :) Hopefully we'll here an announcement when they return home. It's so strange though because in the white and purple sheath at dinner the other night her stomach looked completely flat.

    1. I noticed that too! But, when I'm on vacation I tend to have some tummy " issues" if u catch my drift....
But I'd LOVE to hear an announcement!

There should be awards for Kate Coverage. You'd win top prize! You are doing an awesome job!
Thanks for all of your hard work!

    3. Speaking of pregnancy (in general, and not specifically...) the size of the "bump" does indeed change slightly throughout the day.

Another amazing choice! I have never ever said a thing about it before, but in the last picture, looks like Catherine is pregnant! Her belly doesn't seem to be flat in that picture! I'm sorry maybe It's the angle and I can't see the truth. Actually I feel kinda uncomfortable saying she looks pregnant. People can be very annoying about this subject.

  8. Well, the last photo of Will and Kate observing a minute of silence is certainly...umm...interesting.

Thank you for being so quick with these post. I know it is very early in the morning for you. Your the best.

Now with the pregnancy rumors. I am with you all here. The on epicture does look like a baby bump but then in other photos in other dresses there is none. So I think we all just have to wait until they get home before we hear anything. And I am with you all also that I don't like to fall for all these rumors but you do have to stop and think twice with the drinking of the water and the bump (???) in the picture above.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The "bump" could be due to the long flight or the hot weather and drinking more water, but fingers crossed. Thanks for such a speedy post!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh no... I've been seeing the 'water' story all over today. This picture is going to be everywhere tomorrow!! Seems like just the way she's holding herself since it's not obvious in other photos (although I would be ecstatic if the rumors are true)

Thanks for the quick post! I can always count on you!

  12. You are all to kind thank you!

  13. In all looks the belts are higher than ever. This seems another sign that the first baby is coming. We will see soon.

  14. All these dresses look like they were created for someone who they couldn't tell what stage of "showing" she would be. Even the purple number looked "loosely altered". So she either is or they were hoping she would be.

  15. I miss her hair stylish so much.

  16. If she were pregnant, wouldn't Prince William be standing closer to her, protectively, as he sometimes does? And what about the anti-malarial and other medication they are supposedly taking? Would she have really wanted to even be pregnant on a strenous trip like this one? My wish for her is that she is not pregnant. The photos could just be showing he effects of long flight, time change, eating meals at odd times, and the heat. My best wishes to them for a great tour, then a long quiet time to enjoy a pregnancy.

    1. I agree with you 100%!!! We all know what long plane travel, jet lag heat etc. can do to our bodies. I do not think anyone would want to be pregnant with Kate's grueling schedule in such a hot climate. But OOOPS do happen (I have two wonderful ones) My best wishes for a fabulous tour and then a wonderful announcement around New Year's!
Please, oh please where is James Pryce?

  17. Oh I hope she is! They will make such amazing parents!

Charlotte, you really are the best, I check your blog every day.

    Much love from Canada!

  18. All her dresses seem loose and billowy, too much of a coincidence, and the toasting with water, too adorable for words! Keeping fingers cross!

  19. Oh my gosh!!! I hope!!!

  20. Actually there were photos in some of the other looks (especially the Prabal Gurung dress) where there was a hint of a bump, not as clearly as in the photo from the War Memorial but there was a photo from the side where you could see a bump, so I tend to suspect she may be pregnant.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, as much as I don't buy that she's pregnant, given the strenuousness of this trip...the evidence is mounting.

I think she has looked lovely so far, though I, like many others, would love to see a tiara, and for her to put her hair up more - because she always looks so fantastic when she does!

Charlotte, I love that this site is about so much more than fashion. I find it so interesting to learn about where they go and why they go there when they're on these sorts of tours, and the info you provide is top-notch.

  23. I would have to agree that she looks pregnant in that photo, and the skirt is positioned rather high in the others.

Question: Kate was pictured a month and a half ago at the Olympic reception with a glass of champagne. If she wasn't pregnant then, would she start showing so soon now? (Never been pregnant, so I'm just curious.) Or do you think she was pregnant then and didn't really drink the champagne and it was just for a photo op so people wouldn't suspect anything?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. She might not have known during the Olympics and since most doctors say you can have an occasional drink while trying...no harm no foul!
If that's the case it would put her around 8wks assuming she found out a few days after the champagne pictures. With such a slender frame she could be starting to show.

  24. My initial thought is that she isn't pregnant. I did a double-take at that pic and I DO feel like she's had a bit of a rounder face since she came back for the paralympics but would the palace let her travel on a grueling tour when she was pregnant with the heir to the throne?? Like 90% of miscarriages happen in first trimester. I just don't see them letting her travel too much- especially to somewhere tropical-esque and on such a stressful tour when so much is at stake... Maybe we'll find out I'm totally wrong but that's my initial reaction. She MAY have to put on a little weight in order to actually get pregnant to begin with. I wonder if that's what is going on...

    1. I totally agree with you. It´s difficult to imagin worst conditions for first trimestre than very busy tour to subtropical countries. They both seem to me as very rational and down-to-earth persons who don´t tend to succumb to public opinion and press, so I would be very surprised if she were pregnant right now (if it wasn´t an "accident" :-)) Drinking water - I´m a big wine drinker but if I were on my 2nd big state visit with all eyes laying on me,listining every my word, I would choose water too, since after exhausting day one glass of wine could do enough.
I admit that the photo made me doubt to, but finally I think it´s just the pleated skirt (that´s way plaeated pieces are just for tall and slender woman as Kate is)
And her fuller face..come on, she was very very thin befor because of the wedding and all the limelight incomparable with the one before when she was just wills girlfriend, but exactly when she was just his girlfriend, she has a very full face -in comparation with the body. It´s her somatotype. When I saw her first on a photo, just face, I judged - ok, next door girl, size 12 - and I was very suprised when realized how slim and tonned she was. So when she put up some wight, first where noted is her face (another example of chubby face with slim body is Renee Zelweger..well, that´s extreme :)) and we all agree that is very good she had put on some.
And I´m slightly irritated by all those "hope she is"here...why you hope? They are just 16 month married. It is totally their bussines, she is not in due to anybody to be pregnant, we are not in 15th century, and definitely not to just to make you entertained. Pregnancy is quiet big a decision and could be very stresful if you are afraid of delivery and so on, nothing to say about the intimacy of the act - in her situation thing which would be in the papers every day. I hope she would be when she wanted to. howk :)

  25. In women as slim and fit as Kate, it sometimes takes longer for a bump to appear than in others, especially for the first pregnancy. If Kate and William are expecting, then I am guessing she is past first trimester. Have noticed a bit more bosom of late, which is often the first sign. Must be difficult coping with all this speculation, but such a blessed event would bring great happiness to many.

  26. I agree that the pictures of her in this particular dress seem to indicate that there's something going on in the baby department. But I'll wait until I hear the actual official announcement from Clarence House. All of her dresses are highwaisted AND we need to remember they recently endured a 14-hour flight, the change to a dramatically different climate and a grueling schedule. So some non-pregnancy changes to the body, including a little extra puffiness (which, like pregnancy, would be more pronounced in someone as skinny as the duchess) could be expected.

  27. Once again Charlotte, you ROCK. The great thing about this tour, for me, is the time difference. I love getting up and having an instant catch up on Kate & William, and the by lunchtime I have seen the outfits for the whole day and go to bed, looking forward to my morning fashion fix.

  28. Hmmmmmm I just went back to the arrival photos, where she is wearing Jenny Packham. The bodice is very much like her wedding dress, however, her bust is far fuller, different than gaining a few pounds...and there is a bit of tummy too...but the heat & humidity can cause an awful bloat when your body is not used to it & water is the best liquid to drink...but whatever the reason...let's pray they returm home safe & sound & healthy...Victoria

  30. Charlotte, How can we thank you enough for your most up-to- the-date postings...???? You are wonderful. And did I notice you took off the picture causing so much speculation of pregnancy? (Or maybe I have coffee lag?) If you did take it off...GOOD FOR YOU!!!! I wish we could stay on track with the great coverage you provide and NOT get caught up in Tabloid Junk! I must admit I did post earlier commenting on the 'bump" and thought later "how silly"!Tthis is too good of a fair Blog on Kate and the work you do, to get caught up in such sepeculation. Let's get back to commenting and supporting Kate and William on a most challenging trip.

  34. Just a minor typo correction, on 14 September the royal couple will visit "Kota Kinabalu", not "Kota Kinabulu" such as written on the right panel above.

  35. Oh Charlotte, why did you remove the photo of Will and Kate observing a minute of silence..? it was so lovely! I wanted to have another look at it before I comment, and now I can't find it.
Anyway, it certainly did seem like a little round baby bump there, but maybe she is just bloated. Time will tell.
I have a question: the blog (and comments) keep saying how hot and humid it is there. What are the temperatures? and humidity?

    Thanks! D.
