Royal Surprise in Brisbane + Kate in Project D London Penelope Dress

The Royal tour officially ended this morning when William and Kate departed Tuvalu. Islanders gave them a colourful departure ceremony and carried them onto the plane. Following an exciting evening which included dancing in multi-coloured grass skirts the couple looked refreshed and happy as they waved goodbye to their second royal tour.

The couple returned home via Brisbane, the first time Kate has stepped on Australian soil, where there was a previously unannounced photo opportunity for the press airside.

Palace officials had earlier denied there would be a media facility at Brisbane airport and the media were asked not to disclose William and Kate's travel details.

The Royals spent almost two hours on the ground before boarding a flight back to the UK.

The press initially released information that Kate was wearing an Erdem dress. After looking through his collections I could not see anything similar and thought it to be a bespoke piece. One of our regular commenters Sarah kindly let me know the dress is actually the Project D London Penelope Dress from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Project D

The silk tea dress is currently reduced from €387 to €193 at My Wardrobe. It is described as

'Bespoke pale flower print Shirt dress with front invisible zipper fastening, turn-up sleeve, pleated skirt and separate waist tie'.

The dress was a fitting choice for the couple's brief stop in Australia because co-designer Dannii Minogue is Australian. I emailed the Project D press office who said they were all 'very excited' Kate wore the Penelope.

Project D London

Project D London is a collaboration between acclaimed designer Tabitha Somerset Webb and Dannii Minogue. The label started with a girlie chat by the River Thames and has become a respected label known for enduring elegance. Kate's sister Pippa is a huge fan of the label. Other high profile clients include Princess Mary of Denmark and actress Lara Pulver.

The Duchess changed into a white sweater and skinny jeans. I love this look, very chic and understated.

The couple met with airport staff and had a very heavy security presence surrounding them.

Kate wore the grey mix Temperly Lotus Leopard Print Scarf (with thanks to Tammie) The €305 scarf is described as

'Made of super soft modal/cashmere, the Temperly London Lotus Leopard Print Scarf combines the seasonal Lotus Print - an opulent jewel toned floral - with leopard print'.

Kate wore her LK Bennett Sledge Pumps and accessorized with her Longchamp Le Pliage bag. (more photos and updates shortly)

It has been a wonderful tour and despite other distractions William and Kate acted with complete professionalism and grace. The couple experienced new cultures, traditions and no doubt her Majesty will be extremely proud of the manner in which they represented her during the Diamond Jubilee tour. I think we all got to see a new side of the couple, particularly at last night's dinner :)

  2. Thank you for all the work you did. Did you set up a FB account for Royal Tour 2012 or just a tab on the Duchess page.
Catherine has held her head high, truly represting the Queen and she has not put a foot wrong. Being in a seculed location/no alchol/ enjoying private time with her husband was something to be celebrated. We all know Charles did not do this with his wife. What he would have gotten into with this area of technology. Catherine will face the jealously of Camillia, Andrew's daughters/ The only Royal who could possible have pulled this off is Sophi/

  5. Good pictures and really great to see them enjoying themselves in Solomon Islands and Tuvalu. What a pity they didn't have a weekend off at the resort in the Solomon Islands. It was nice that Kate chose dresses which were appropriate to the places she was visiting, however the high heels must be quite uncomfortable in the heat. As to following in the Queen's footsteps, I noticed that when she visited Tuvalu in 1982 she wore stockings with her shoes plus a big boxy handbag and always had her white gloves on! How hot she must have felt. William does have to wear a suit on formal occasions, but could have been dressed casually more often, perhaps with a short sleeved shirt when walking through the streets. I noticed he took his tie off so he must have felt the heat. I loved the blue patterned shirt and the coral pink one. Why on earth didn't he wear something like that on the last evening in Tuvalu! In 1982 the Duke of Edinburgh wore a white tropical shirt and straw hat when he wasn't dressed formally in his white naval uniform.

  6. Kate looks like she just walked off the runway in that first pic of her in the scarf. I don't think that outfit could've been anymore perfect! -Brit

  7. I love the jeans and sweater too. :) Whether she's wearing a formal evening gown or a casual, modern look, she is equally stylish and photogenic. I keep saying this, but what a stunning couple!

  8. Both dress and earrings are now sold out. I adore the botanical print silk fabric! Kate has a very comfortable outfit for a long plane flight - a scarf to wrap around herself and probably some slippers in the Longchamp bag. I am getting some great tips from this young lady!

Absolutely amazing coverage Charlotte!! I wished the Duchess wore more Southeast Asian designers that you suggested before the trip. Overall, it looks like the couple had a fun-filled trip and memories to cherish. Hopefully they will return someday.

    1. Hi Siddhii :) It is indeed quite cold, I've been wearing scarves myself over the past few days. Very much typical Autumn UK weather.

  15. I really like this pretty dress and would definitely wear it myself. That said... the Daily Mail is making another big deal out of this skirt blowing up on the airport tarmac, complete with video and all (and it really does fly right up in the back). Didn't this exact same thing happen in Canada, and why hasn't somebody on the royal wardrobe team figured out to weigh down her hems, considering how much time they spend on windy airport runways??
