Kate Wears Mulberry To Paradise Island

Following a busy day of engagements William and Kate flew to Marau, which is on the furthest end of the main island Guadalcanal. On arrival the Duke and Duchess were honoured by leaders and members of the local communities.

The welcome ceremony was entirely developed by the local people and locals put garland necklaces made from shell money on the royals.

From a Palace press release:

'The welcome ceremony promises to be a special and memorable moment for Their Royal Highnesses in such a remote and beautiful location, and Their Royal Highnesses are deeply touched by the honour being extended to them on behalf of The Queen'.

The couple proceeded by boat to the island of Marapa, where they visited a village before travelling on a traditional war canoe the short distance between Marapa and Tavinapupu. On arrival, William and Kate received a local musical and dance welcome.

William and Kate retired for the night at the exceptionally beautiful Tavinipupu Resort Hotel

The Duke and Duchess were given a traditional welcome on Tavinipupu island.

Tavanipupu is a dream created by English interior decorator Dennis Bellote and his late partner Keith Paske in the 1970's. The island was a coconut plantation in the 19th century, owned by Norwegian Traders who bought it off the locals for ammunition. Due to the past political tensions in the Solomon Islands, Tavinipupu was almost forced to close. However due to the hard work of a few passionate people, the resort still remains today.

A look at one of the suites.

The lovely Brynnan photographed the couple leaving their hotel earlier. What do you all think of William's pink shirt?

Kate wore the midnight blue sleeveless collared Mulberry dress from the 2012 Resort Collection (with thanks to Jennifer) The full skirted broderie anglaise dress is beautiful piece and a perfect choice for the occasion. Collared dresses are incredibly popular at the moment and the dress combines that trend whilst remaining a classic piece.

What do you all think of Kate's dress? It's one of my favourites from the tour.

Kate wore her Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon Wedges.

The Duchess wore her 18 carat yellow gold and Citrine Drop Earrings by Kiki McDonough. They are available for £495.

Tavinipupu is often described as a 'paradise island' and I hope William and Kate have a relaxing, peaceful time there.

Tomorrow the couple will visit Tuvalu.

  3. Pretty dress---I have loved all these full-skirted dresses she has worn on this trip. A good shape for her, whilst she has shown how vibrant colours suit her.
Not sure whether the Duke's shirt is pink or orange, but looks great--better than the suit for the weather.
I guess the colour would suit Catherine too.
Charlotte---you have worked wonders with your reports--you must be very tired. Hope you get some rest before the term starts.

    1. Thank you Jean, you're incredibly kind. I have absolutely loved covering the tour. It's been so much fun. I have a few days off before college resumes so plenty of time to catch up on sleep.

I loved Kate's Mulberry dress, what do you all think?

    2. Love the Mulberry dress too. One of my favourites of this tour.
I hope they are picking up all the good vibes to come home full of energy.
Thanks, Charlotte ! Your work is just wonderful...

  4. At first I thought that would be another McQueen piece she ordered with the white one, due to to the broderie anglaise and 50´s style. I love it, although I´m not a huge fan of Kate in navy, this dress is superb, I would like to have one for me. Maybe the nice pink contrast with William´s shirt set it off. Any idea about the belt? Seems it didn´t come with the dress.
But her hair again, today she somehow resigned to any "do", already with the yellow dress was quite messy and here really nothing special and little practical, she has to touch them in every moment...a ponytail with this dress would be icing on the cake for me.

  5. I love, love, love this dress. None of the previous dresses really catch the attention, they were boring, mammy like. This one looks very age appropriate, suits her very well, makes her look young, fresh, modern. Perfect dress.

  6. I think pink shirt looks wonderful on William. Very suitable for the island paradise. Why not? Enough of official clothing. It's so much fun to wear a pink shirt!

  7. At last...a good sartorial choice for this tour! (although she ruined it a bit with those perennial wedges...) All the other dresses were a disaster, with a few good exceptions.
William looks very well, as always. :)

  8. I genuinely adore this dress. To be honest, I was in love with pretty much everything she wore in Canada, and very disappointed with the looks of this tour, but The Prabal Gurung (white and purple) and this Mulberry, WOW!

If you don't mind me asking Charlotte ( please believe I don't mean this as an intrusion in your privacy), in which university do you study ?
I myself am also a student, in France.

Thanks for your amazing coverage, LOVE THE DRESS! :) Flo

  10. I love this dress! I love the color, the pattern, the style, the length, everything! The duchess looks great in it :) I love how well it goes with the platform wedges too (I'm not too crazy about those shoes, to be honest, but they look great with this outfit)

I'm just a bit disappointed I haven/t seen her with her hair up more :( but oh well, she still looks great today :)

  12. I love that dress, but I am getting very tired with her love for chunky wedges. It really just looks like a massive, inelegant brick on the foot.

I think your are doing an excellent job covering the tour!

  13. I love this dress! It is so her and so beautiful. I am getting a bit tired of her super chunky wedges though. I think they just look like a big, inelegant brick. Makes her look a little clumsy while regular heels make her look so pretty.

Your coverage of the tour is amazing!

  14. Loved all your posts, you've done a brilliant job. Know you have school coming up soon but wonder when there is a lull (both in school and Kate's schedule) if you could do an overview of the royal visit in one post. There has been so much coming in so fast and I would love to compare the outfits Kate wore next to each other. Maybe a "Kate Loves the Pacific". Many thanks for all your fine efforts. Linda

  15. I'm sure the women greeting them were dressed in local native outfits... But it's kind of ironic that they were basically topless!! Hopefully that made the Duchess share a laugh with Wills!

Wishing them good luck today in the Paris court! And hoping that this invasion of privacy doesn't give Kate a complex of thinking someone is watching her all the time.... I know I would feel that way!

    1. That's exactly what I was thinking! Topless pix with Kate, but she's not the topless one! Also, this morning on Live with Kelly and Michael (in the USA) Kelly said that as awful as the violation of Kate and William's privacy is, perhaps someday, after having nursed a few babies, Kate might like having these photos to remember what she used to look like. No, the whole issue is definitely not funny, but a sense of humor can keep you from crying too much!

The Duchess is a strong woman and she will gettthru this with the love & support of her Prince. To the sound of things William seems more upset about the pictures than the Duchess. Just some of the press that has been out there, true or not I am not sure. But if it was me I would be really pisst and what every head I could get to a chopping block...lol

I did see the show today with Kelly and I thought how would she feel if her privacy was taken away. I did think it was funny but that is Kelly shoting from the hip before she really thinks.

Again another great post from our sweet Charlotte. Thank you again for all your hard work and late hours during this great tour.

I loved her dress and William's pink shirt. He should wear different colors more often. Maybe Kate picked this out. They looked very relaxed and enjoying themselves. I have to say I have enjoyed this tour much better than the Canadian one. I can't belive it is almost over with. Then I bet we will not see the couple for awhile. We know they want to start a family so maybe they will be under the rader in Wales.

So again Charlotte I thank you for this great site and all your hard work.

I am simply amazed... This dress is one of the prettiest dresses she has ever worn! I absolutely adore the colour, the skirt is very feminine and the broderie anglaise is beautiful!
I really admire her... She is such a natural with kids and people in general. Always put a gourgeous smile on her pretty face and faces the situation whatever it is. And I truly believe she is really envolved with all her charities. I am proud to say she is my role model.

  20. This dress is my favorite of the tour so far (except maybe the purple and white one from the first night- I loved that look!). I think that her outfit is so classic and clean but not boring. However, I do with she would just toss those wedges. They are too high and she towers over everyone and they don't look professional, in my opinion. Other than that, I love it! I really enjoy checking this blog everyday and seeing what Kate is wearing. I wish I had her wardrobe (and body type...)!

  21. I like the pink on William!!it suits him better than the dark suits. I like Kate's dress however she could've worn something more colorful.thanks Charlotte our rockstar!

  22. OMG I am absolutely loving this dress and the shoes are just perfect with it! I've always been partial to navy, but this dress is fresh, young and classic all at the same time.

  23. Love this fantastic blog, such good taste and so up to date! And absolutely in love with this lovely places in the Solomon islands! The Mulberry dress is one of my favorites too. Its incredible how Kate is always so photogenic no matter where she is or the weather conditions! Will looks very cute in pink.

To the Anon who asked about a wrap up post, I'm planning some posts to recap the tour beginning with a poll of Kate's best look. On the menu bar there is a page called 'Royal Tour 2012' with all the tour posts :)

  30. Loved William changing it up. He should have worn tropical shirts or Phillipino type shirts. Kate needs to help him get out of the always present navy suit. Are those "topless" women meeting them? Kate u did nothing wrong, and so glad William was paying attention to you. Can u imagine Charles rubbing suntan lotion on Diana? NO! Good on you 2 for being so loving to each other. Eye contact/ smiles that say a 1000 words.

I too love the eye contact between the two. You can just see the love they have for eac other. Just so beautiful. They will get thru this picture miss and become a even stronger couple (if that is even possible, they are pretty strong now).

  32. I'm not impressed with the new hairdresser. The previous one did a much better job with Kate's hair when it's down. Indeed, the new one is great for updos, but Kate's hair these days is not as well kept. With the kind of money's she's spending on her hair, it should be impeccable, even in the humidity. Love the navy blue dress. Kate has a gorgeous figure that carries these dresses much better than most models!
