Kate in Alice Temperley For Diamond Jubilee Tea Party

William and Kate attended a Diamond Jubilee tea party hosted by the British High Commissioner and his wife at their official residence this afternoon.

The guests for the traditionally British tea party were drawn from civil society and it was a chance for the British High Commission to deepen the existing strong bonds of friendship. William and Kate were invited to sample a new tea created by leading tea manufacturer, BOH, in honour of the Diamond Jubilee.

The Duchess wore an ice blue dress with white lace overlay and floral embroidery by one of her favourite designers Alice Temperley. The knee length dress with three quarter sheer sleeves and flared skirt is a modified version of the £1,550 Aster Flower Dress from the Autumn/Winter collection.

The dress is incredibly pretty and perfect for the event.

Again Kate wore her LK Bennett Sledge Pumps.

Kate wore her hair in an elaborate bun with pearl pins at the back. Malay women frequently wear pearl pins in their hair especially at weddings (With many thanks to Brendan) once again we see Kate paying tribute to her host country through her style.

Following the lunch, the Cambridges bid farewell to Kuala Lumpur and departed on an aircraft lent by the Malaysian government to Kota Kinabalu, in Sabah, Malaysia. The couple attended a reception before retiring for the night.

A video of the departure is available at ITN Source.

William and Kate appeared very upbeat and relaxed at the tea party despite the terrible news a French magazine has published topless photos of the Duchess from their holiday in the Luberon last week. Kate is said to be furious, hurt, disgusted and feel a line has been crossed. The Palace continued to say the clock had been turned back fifteen years (when Diana was tragically killed in France while being followed by the paparazzi)  A gross violation of Kate's privacy and no doubt a difficult time for her and William. St James' Palace confirmed legal proceedings commenced today in France.

From St James' Palace statement

'The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and it is all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so'.

  1. Once again, Kate shows her inate skill and sensitivity to grasp the style of local fashion. The lace and floral embroidery is very much typical seen in most local Malay dress. The pearl pins in her hair is definitely what a lot of Malay womens will do especially in their wedding do.

    1. I thought the pins in Kate's elegant updo were a lovely touch and it's wonderful she's paying tribute to local Malay dress.

I do admire her composure tough given the photo scandal.

    2. Chanel uses the pins in recent runway shows. In the States, I've only seen them available at Chanel - and they are very expensive as they are real pearls.

Have you notice how light the duchess must be travelling. Just like in Canada she has pared down her accessories.
A thought about the white broderie anglaise outfit do you think we will see it at Wimbledon next year.
As for the photos where will they ever feel that they can be private and safe after this, it must feel very disturbing.

  10. WOW, this is beautiful. And her hair 3rd time in some "do", I´m pleased. Doesn´t she look tender and sophisticated in up does? The dress is my cup of tea, very much, I love lace overlays...and colour is nice. Even it seems that she is in very same colours, I can understand it, the heat requieres pastel tones adn as she is fond of blue tones..in pink would be too sugar sugar, in mint green or blue too cold, lilac is quite fine. And pearls are nice nod and splash of originality in her style. Generally I like this tour outfits more than Canada/USA, but partly it is because it is easier dress up yourself for warmer clima, nice dress will do, than for a continental one. And she has had more time for preparations and she nows better "her" designers now than then, it´s obvious. She starts to be a real royal tour adept:) And the naked photo - I wouldn´t do too much fuss about it, we all suspected she had a bust, so let´s no give more munition to all those stinky paparazzis with our reactions. Ignorance is the best answer to tabloids!!

  11. I am astonished by how much William resembles his mother Lady Diana in the first picture, the look and the expression on his face remind me so much of Diana. Lovely.
Regarding the topless pictures: It is really a shame but as Kate has got a wonderful figure and is sporty she should not care and bother too much. She looks great and dignified - with or without clothes. ;-) I think that most people will criticise this impudent intrusion in their private life. Of course he will earn money with that but it is in no way embarrassing for Kate, just for this paparazzo.

I loved the dress and her hair. William does look so much like his beloved mother. The Duchess looks stunning as always.

For the pictures I would hope the readers here would boycott the pictures out of respect for the Duchess and William. They are entitled to a private life just as much as you & I are. I don't care if they are royal, if they are on holiday then pictures should be off limits.

William made a statement in an interview that he does not what his Duchess to end up like his mother. Well the France (not all just the media) are at it again but this time it is his beloved Duchess. They should be arrested and put in jail. Now I know I will get alot of heat for what I just said but this is just how I feel. They were on a 640 acrea private piece of property belonging to a family memeber. They thought they were alone and if William thought his Duchess should not have taken her top off I am sure he would have suggested her not too.

William is very protective of his Duchess so now I can see it is even going to get mre so. I bet that teh Duchess did shed a tear when they were told over their breakfast and I could not blame her. I hope there is legal action taken against the magazine and the person who took the photos.

    1. And what about Prince Harry's photos? Were not published and put on the internet from the USA? You should clean up your own back yard Pauline.

      Delete
    2. Forgive me, but I don't think these are the same, especially from a legal standpoint. There are two separate issues here: the invasion of privacy, and the propriety of publishing the photos. The photos of Harry were taken by a member of his party (in a couple of senses) so Harry could hardly argue invasion of privacy and presumably Harry did not ask the young lady to sign any kind of waiver about the sale of the photos etc.--in that sense the publication of the photos was entirely legal, although some may think it in bad form and taste to sell and publish the photos, which were published in the UK and elsewhere. In Kate and William's case they were on private property, and the photos may have been obtained through trespass or other illegal means. Even if the manner in which the photos were obtained were legal, while I am not familiar with France's Napoleonic code, I presume that as in most democracies, there are laws which protect an individual's privacy rights, which may well have been offended here. Certainly a publisher should think twice about publishing photos which may not have been legally obtained, as they can be held liable for damages.

@Anonymous 15:25 Prince Harry's photos were taken by someome invited to his party that he did not even know. So his falls under nobody invaled his privacy. Where as the Duchess & her Prince were on private property, on private holiday. Therefore the are entitled to expect their privacy to be protected.

And I am sorry but I have no control over cleaning up by back yard. I did not sell nor purchased Harry's photos.

  18. An absolutely lovely look - the dress, the hair. She is hitting it out of the ball park on this tour and William is justifiably very proud.

There is no doubt that William and Kate will stand together on the photo issue. They may even decide - after the tragedy of his mother and now this - that they will never again make a private visit to France. Who would blame them?

  19. Lovely hair ! Really beautiful, especially with the pearls. The dress is a perfect choice, though I'm not so keen on the actual embroidery, but the Duchess carries it off beautifully. I admire her poise and charm, although the heat must be tiring and the crowds really intimidating.

The pictures are a disgrace. A total breach of privacy. She is beautiful in a bikini, a perfect figure, and many young women her age go topless at the beach, so she has nothing to be ashamed of. But the pictures with her husband are intimate and a gross invasion of their private life. I do hope the Palace can condemn the magazine somehow.

The shirt dresses, red/white/black print dress, evening dresses, and tea party dress all were different styles... For fun, what would you add?

I've just come across her naked pics..
But Charolette and dear readers of the blog, don't you think that Kate should be aware of the fact that she is one of the most popular women in the world and paparazzi do everything for such photos?
I do not want to justify paparazzi actions (FOR ME WHAT THEY'VE DONE IS AWFUL) but Kate and Will cannot be naive ... They should take their let's say fame into account and give up some activities .. The line has been crossed and nothing would change it.... It is really SAD but it is the world we live in!
I know, it was their private time, but Kate cannot do certian things anymore... shopping or attending friends weddings is completely different matter, but Kate, in my opinion, should be more careful when it comes to sunbathing topless....

I'm really shocked what paparazzi have already done but I am also disappointed with Kate's behaviour... as for me she shuold be more cautious..

    It is just my opinion.

    1. Completely agree. Horrible that they were published, but I don't topless sunbathe ANYWHERE because you just don't know what creepers may be lurking around and I can assure you no one would even want a picture of me.
I bet Prince William will restrict the press's access even more after this tour as a result.

Upside is that the press is likely to leave the pregnancy rumor alone for awhile. She is just so tiny!

    2. She should be allowed on a private property in her private time to sunbathe topless. She's a person too. I'm sure she wouldn't have gone out knowing there was someone with a camera there. If they're alone, which they have every right to be, inside and outside of thier house, why shouldn't she sunbathe how she wants?

The person to be angry at is the photographer, the publisher, and every person that buys the photos.

We all know how protective he is of his Duchess and it is even going to get worse. He made a statement when they were dating the he has these dreams where the press is chancing Catherine thru the streets but it was not in Paris it was in England. I can only imagine what is going thru his head now. Let's just hope the press will lay low and leave them alone. Regarding the photos, they are a gross violation of privacy and I hope that William and Kate prosecute with every resource available to them. 1. I think her desire for privacy went out of the window when she married into the Royal family. She has become fodder for the press now. They have immense privileges - chauffeur driven cars, free holidays, designers knocking at the door, beautiful stately homes. This is the downside of that. I don't have much sympathy to be honest.

Anonymous @20:18 Yes she did willingly took off her top but she did so on private property and on an 600 acre piece of land. People don't want to believe that the royal family does not deserve any privacy at all. But no matter how you are you are entitled to so privacy. This scam bag who laid in the bushes to get these photos should be arrested and sent to jail. There is a picture on the net that show's how far away this guy was when he took the pictures. He is lying in the dirt right off the road. It is like an assin waiting to kill his target. And I hate that people are comparing this to rape victims. There is no comparing the two.

I think the choices for last year's tour of Canada and the US were much better. As for the LK Bennett platforms I so very much wish that someone would wrestle these from her or maybe this is a piece of luggage the airlines could lose on her behalf! I feel her choice of shoes is one thing that she doesn't get quite right (the dreadful pink Prada's at Sovereign's reception at Windsor for the Jubilee are a prime example) and wish she'd take a leaf out of Princess Mary of Denmark's book as far as shoes are concerned.

    I love this blog!

    1. Has it not dawned on anyone that the Duchess tries to keep the cost of her shoe purchases and indeed all her clothes, down as much as possible.
Information on the internet suggests that Princess Mary of Denmark and most of the European Princesses have dress allowances provided by the state, whilst their husbands have incomes from the state.
Catherine has no such luxury--her clothes are provided by her father-in-law from his private income and are not even tax deductable. Prince William has no income from the Civil list.I suspect Princess Mary can afford a great many more shoes than Catherine.
This information is all available on the internet.

  50. Ths is just delicate, lacey, elegant princessy-y!! I love it!! It suits her tall, lean, small frame so well!! The pearls in her hair just add to the magic. Absolutely exquisite.

Kudos to her through this scandal. Perhaps even more awful than the pictures themselves is the timing of their release-on this important tour. That seems to add a new layer of maliciousness to the whole thing. HRH has been flawless every step of the day-she does not deserve this (no one does, really). As I mentioned in a post yesterday, however, it surprises me that with the beauty parlor, honeymoon and family vacation photo invasion precedent she did not deem it risky to be topless on a terrace. I also suspect that HRH will receive some form of updated protocol, if not admonishment, over topless sunbathing, yes, even in private holiday time.

She is just everything that a modern royal should be. More strength to her. And, to end on a lighter note, I still think William needs some sartorial assistance!! No more dark-suit uniform!!

    Thanks for all,Charlotte. Silvia

  51. Sorry about the obnoxious back-to-back post!! I think HRH will be fine!! This photo invasion thing is not a good episode, but tomorrow is a new day, lessons will be learned (hopefully a lawsuit will be won, too) and life for the royals will continue to shine. This is the 21st century-everyone will cope and move on. Silvia

  52. I find it ironic that the people who are so outraged on this site by the publication of these photos are the same who yesterday were going into meltdown over the 'is she, isn't she? ' pregnancy question. This site showed a photo not long ago of Kare shopping in a supermarket , followed by discussion of what was in her shopping trolley and the clothes she was wearing!! What is the difference?? It's precisely this kind of obsession which creates the market for intrusive pictures. Double standards or what???

    1. I think everyone has a different opinion on it to be honest. I think they're public figures the occasional candid snap (walking the dog, supermarket) us unavoidable but publishing topless photos taken on a private estate crosses a line in my opinion. Kate had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the Luberon whereas in a supermarket she's aware she'll be seen possible photographed.

Charlotte I so agree with you. These photos have crossed the line. I can just imgine how pisst off William is regarding the invasion of privacy regarding his beloved Duchess. They are entitled to privacy whne they are not doing royal duties. A few shots of her shopping or walking Lupo are not bad but topless photos when they were on a private holiday, on private property (640 acre)is stepping over the line.

I for one will not look at the photos and I hope the real Duchess fans will not either out of respect of the Duchess. She is such a class act on how she is going on with her head held high.

  54. I agree with Lesley, above...she really needs to loose those LK Bennett nude shoes...she wears so many great designer dresses and those dull shoes all the time. There are definitely other options that are much more stylish and also not flashy.

As for the pics, there is no denying that they are a public couple and as such give up a certain amount of privacy - but the point is...is nothing private anymore? Is it wrong to expect privacy when staying in a private house on holiday? I don't think so. There is no line any more that the paparazzi will not cross - not only for Will and Kate but for other public people too. It's very unfortunate.

When you throw words around like rape, racist or Nazi it completely demolishes your argument because it looks like you're resorting to emotion rather than logic. Kate's been hanging on to William for ten years to get where she is. Hopefully, she was reminded that the press is always trying to catch her and no real harm is done.

  61. Someone comented that this reminded them of Wedgewood--I agree! Still, quite lovely and appropriate.
Speaking of appropriate there have been many comments about the photos taken of Kate and William on holiday in France with people either falling into the "You are a public figure now, you shouldn't expect any privacy, so don't complain" camp or the "These photos are hugely invasive; the papparazi, and the magazine are cretins and should be punished" camp. The bottom line is William and Kate still have the same privacy rights at law as everyone else, regardless of their public roles. Those rights have very likely been invaded, and as such they have the same remedies available to them at law as everyone else and I truly hope they exercise those rights. Should they have expected privacy on a 640 acre privately owned property--sadly, apparently not. But the true villains of the piece are those who will make it worthwhile for photographers and publishers to do this kind of thing--the public who buys the magazine, as it is the revenue from the sale of these magazines that motivate these pictures being taken and sold. So let's not boycott all of France, but just any magazine which publishes these photos--not just now, but always, so that the bottom line is well and truly hit. With so many quality publications available, including this blog, there is no need to support magazines who make dubious legal and moral decisions about what to publish.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Despite the fact that you can't really expect privacy AT ALL when you are at that level of fame, I think it's time that the line is drawn against paparazzi. They have no shame and respect no boundaries. I cannot believe there still isn't a law that stops them from invading people's private lives. I know, it's all about money and as long as people buy these magazines, they will pay enormous sums for pictures like that. Still, I can't believe there isn't any kind of law to stop this from happening.

  66. I hope that as W&K grow into their roles, they take even more active, visible roles in their charities and speaking opportunities to really speak out and educate the public. Her speech at the hospice was lovely, but I'm not sure it really shed light on exactly what palliative care means, how it can change a family, funding and resource shortages etc. etc. Not that all of that can be covered in a single speech, but I'd like to see more fire from them than photo-op after photo-op. And, if they are doing those things behind the scenes, I hope more light will be shed on that work. Even w/ the privacy issue with the photos, the Palace has an army of lawyers and unlimited funds to go after the publication. Yet, privacy concerns are going to continue to be an issue not just for famous people, but for the high schooler whose ex-boyfriend/girlfriend friend posts a naked pic to the web and has no recourse. The Duchess will recover from this for the most part unscathed, I think, as she has many champions. But I hope they use this to draw attention to the bigger picture regarding the increasingly blurry lines of what indeed is private in this world. I felt the same way about the poaching in Africa. We all know William holds Africa dear in his heart, and he released a statement saying he was sad to hear about the poaching rise, but it would be amazing if he spoke out against the beliefs of rhino horns being magical cure-alls that drive the market, especially since so many around the world listen to and admire him. I think the Royals do great charity work and I love the glamour as much as everyone on this site. I'm just also looking forward to them fulfilling their potential to be even greater and more vocal activists. What they seem to be doing is a great job of preserving the future of the monarchy. Thoughts?

  67. Just ran across a tumblr site dedicated to Kate. She's deleting her account. I think her comments are very thought-provoking. What do others think?

"I realised that I admire Kate Middleton for the wrong reasons. I like her because she’s beautiful. Yes, she’s also kind and funny and sweet, but so are billions of other people who haven’t happened to marry a prince. And it was making me feel worse about myself - these images of perfection which I cut out of magazines and reblogged constantly. Beauty on the outside doesn’t matter, and let’s be honest, how many of us would be running fanblogs for Kate if she was ugly or overweight? There are so many terrible things going on in the world right now, things that need fighting for, and by sitting here on the internet posting picture after picture of Kate looking attractive I wasn’t really achieving anything."

    1. That's very thought-provoking. I wonder if that blogger thought about keeping the blog up and trying to put the focus more on Kate's charity work if/when Kate became a full-time working royal? That would add more substance to the glossy photos.

    2. I think both of you have very good points... and that's something I've thought about in the past as well. I like Kate, but mostly because she isn't as trashy as most of our celebrities here in the US and because she has good fashion sense. And some days I'm like, well... that's kind of shallow, no?

But I agree, I'm really interested to see what other issues Kate will take on and what it will be like when she becomes a full-working royal... and so does Kate, judging by the comment that she didn't want to be a "clothes-horse".

  68. It's rather eye-opening to read comments suggesting that Kate deserves what she got (the photos) and/or that there's "no sympathy" for her.

While it's true that she married a royal and gave up SOME degree of privacy, I think there's a huge difference between someone snapping a photo of her while she's in a public place (shopping, walking the dog, movie theater, etc) and basically stalking her and taking a photo with a long distance lens while she is on private property - 600+ acres of it! As much as she has willingly taken on by marrying into the royal family, she is still entitled to basic human decency and respect. I'm not sure how anyone can argue against that...I'm sorry.

I've genuinely been taken aback by some blaming and shaming Catherine for these photos.
    1) Most of my girlfriends do/have sunbaked topless to avoid tan lines, I'm from Australia but this happens so regularly I can't even believe it's even a topic of criticism.
    2) She was naked in FRONT OF HER HUSBAND and partner of 9 years. Of course she felt comfortable, of course she felt safe. She's been violated and I really feel for her as a human. It's illegal to even take photos at the beach here now in case it's used in a creepy way so this should be no different.
    3) When Harry was naked playing strip pool & got snapped naked he was "just being a lad." Yet Duchess is topless in privacy (a LONG WAY FROM THE ROAD) and it's somehow her fault? When will sexism and women hating on other women end?

It's a bit foul, a bit perverted and working in media myself it brings us all down to an unacceptable level.

RANT OVER. But on the positive side, there's beautiful dresses and more loveliness from these two to come in the next few days so we should enjoy. Love the blog.

    1. My dears, I really tried to avoid commenting on these topless photos of Kate, but as Tess talked about points on which I agree, so I decided to pronounce. I do not know, but I must be a person who is well ahead of my time, for both in case of nude photos of Harry as the topless photos of Kate, honestly I did not see anything shocking. All this confusion who's doing are the tabloids, with the aim of raising money, saddly, and very dirty money, is noteworthy. I say this, because I agree with Tess when she said that Kate was doing all that she did, in the presence of her husband, therefore, with the consent of her HUSBAND. Even William was actively participating in the moments when she was topless when he even came to pass sunscreen on the butt of the Duchess. If they were flawed in thinking that they had not papparazzis photographing what they were doing, this only relates to them. It could be more cautious yes, but I think she has not done anything wrong since it was accompanied by her husband and not another man. So let's try to fall into ideas of the false moralists. If it was a mistake, I'm sure they will be mature enough to face it all head on and tomorrow will be another day. Let's focus on the tour of Malaysia, which they are participating brilliantly.

May I suggest something to all us Duchess fans, let's just leave the topic of the topless photos alone now. I think they have been beaten into the ground. She has been embarassed and hurt by these photos. I think we have all expressed our feeling about them.

So let's just focus on the remaining part of the tour. They have some great places to visit and see how the Duchess will WOW us in what she wears. Let's just keep William & Catherine in our prayers that they have the strength to get through all this. They are a strong couple very much in love.

These are just my thoughts. Hope some of you agree with this.
