The Duke and Duchess signed a visitors book before entering the Istana Negara.
The couple chatted with guests and Kate admitted she was very nervous about today's speech 'I am very glad it's over with' she laughed. The Duchess of the opulent palace 'It's beautiful. those chandeliers are wonderful. It's amazing'. William said Kate was suffering from jet lag and jokingly revealed he would love to swim with whale sharks
The Duchess wore a bespoke long cream gown by Alexander McQueen. The stunning gown features an overleaf of sheer material with embroidered gold hibiscuses, the Malaysian flower. The dress has a sweetheart neckline, a full skirt and fitted bodice. What do you all think of the dress? Thus far there appears to be mixed reactions with many of the opinion the neckline was too low.
A look at the exquisite detailing on the dress.
The McQueen Pre Spring 2013 Collection features gold in many of their pieces. Below we look at the McQueen Silk Chiffon Bustier Dress a draped bustier dress with an internal bodice. It is quite similar to Kate's and available for €2,145 in green and €3,645 in black print.

I do not like the gown..
ReplyDeleteFor me it is awful,
sorry :(
I agree! To me it looks al oat as if the dress has slipped down , revealing a cream coloured bra. I think she should have covered her chest a little more.
DeleteI also agree! I think a sheer panel over the top would have been more appropriate and not look like everything is so "out there." I also think that she should back off of the extremely high heels. She is tall already but compared to the people she is meeting on this trip she looks like a giant. I worry she is going to damage her feet and back someday. I do think the dress otherwise is beautiful, she looks lovely.
DeleteKim
Wow, I like this dress. It makes me think of a Disney princess XD.
ReplyDeleteI like how her hair looks too.
The dress is not beautiful.
ReplyDeleteExquisite!!
ReplyDeleteJean
Was really hoping to see Kate in a tiara but even so WOW she looks stunning!!! :) Absolutely gorgeous dress and her hair half up-half down is lovely. I hope some photos surface soon that show the detail of her dress, it looks like a work of art.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a beautiful dress! She looks incredible!
ReplyDeleteDear Charlotte,
ReplyDeletethank you very much for your wonderful job. Your blog is really always the best and fastest source of information :-)
Regarding Kate's dress: Wow, it really looks magnificent. I have only a question also to the other readers. Don't you think the dress is a bit too sexy for a Muslim country like Malaysia? The other women were all covered-up...
Big hugs from Germany
Karin
I have been to many Muslim countries (including Malaysia) and as long as the tops of your arms are covered, and your legs as well, it is fine.
DeleteI'm a Malaysian Muslim living in England.I have friends living in Malaysia dressed way more provocative than people in the UK.Kate looks exquisite in that dress even though I think it's not that gorgeous.
DeleteHi Sal! Brazil is not a Muslim country, is a secular country where different religions coexist harmoniously and in peace.I am a proud Brazilian religious freedom there is in my country and yes, there are many, many Muslims here, all very welcome and has a beautiful story here (such as trade on the famous Rua 25 de Março ou o Bairro do Pari ou Foz do Iguaçu .. Make sure that you and anyone else who wants to visit are very welcome here ...: D
DeleteAnd'm sorry to say, did not like the dress, it seems tableclotch ... and missed a tiara ...
(I apologize if there is any grammatical error in what I wrote .. ;) )
Every inch a fairy tale princess! How beautiful Kate looks! I am not even disappointed by the fact she does not wear a tiara. She is so gracious, so charming. I am sure William realizes what a lucky man he is.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like her speech too. She feels much more confident than she did for her first one.
Thank you a thousand times Charlotte. Your blog is really the best!
Much love from the South of France!
Ohhh, she looks incredible! What a beautiful dress, and her hair looks wonderful! Great job, Charlotte, on such fast posting too!
ReplyDeleteKim
No speculative can describe how gorgeous Kate looks tonight(: Really loved that gown! Looking forward to close up shots(:
ReplyDeleteOnce again I applaud you for your swift and great coverage of the tour(:
Thank you all for your comments.
DeleteI do think it's a stunning gown and a change from Kate's usual style. Looking forward to seeing better photos.
superlative*
DeleteYou're welcome! I really Love your blog! it's part of my bookmarks now.. my only one! HAHAHA
DeleteYes I'm looking forward to that too!!
Woah the close ups make me speechless! how beautiful can she get!
DeleteAll I can say is WOW WOW WOW!!! The Duchess hit this one out of the ball park. She looked just stunning. I do have to say that her chest look's bigger (sorry) but with all the baby talk recently I just had to point that out.
ReplyDeleteI did miss the tiara tonight but she still looked just beautiful. I always wonder what her Prince thinks of how she looks.
Hi Pauline,
DeleteA tiara with that dress would have been just too much.
She looks every little girl's (and the big girls too) dream of a fairy tale princess.
Jean
Oh that is a beautiful dress! But I agree the dress is a bit too sexy for a country that has a Muslim heritage.she looks every inch a real princess!!thanks Charlotte!
ReplyDeleteWeird dress...
ReplyDeleteShe is matching the decor of the room. I would like this trip start all over again ; (
ReplyDeleteI don't like the dress at all...
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely gorgeous dress!! No Tiara though :( Maybe bc a tiara would clash with the gold detailing of her dress?! She looks stunning, I love how she is able to adapt to different cultural styles with such ease.
ReplyDeletelove evening gown very stunning i expected a tiara
ReplyDeleteshe looks nice and easy princess im going to take a big sleep
WOW!!!! Just WOW!!! She really does look like a fairytale princess. Although, I wanted to see a tiara, I really think it would have been too much with this dress. She just looks like perfection!
ReplyDeleteOMG this grown is awful!!! She looks older and in my opinion inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteThank for your great job Charlotte you are amaizing!!
Imma
The dress has a very old-fashioned cut, that's why she looks like a disney princess. Why she chose this cartoon princess look? urrrght...
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is WWWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW to both the Duchess and Charlotte ;-)
ReplyDeleteA fan in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
This is a very smart choice for this event. It relates so closely to the people and their culture she is visiting. :) Smooth!
ReplyDeleteShe probably couldn't have gotten away with this dress at home, but I'm so glad they're touring somewhere exotic where she can get out of her usual style a bit (like the Prabal Gurung the other night), because this dress is AMAZING. I can't wait to see more detail. Too bad there is no tiara, but it probably would have been too much with this dress' detailing. Maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlotte! You're not only miles ahead of any other Kate site, but you give so much information and fun detail about what they're doing as well. Hope you're getting some sleep!
I can't get enough of the Catherine.
ReplyDeleteThe dress we've all been waiting for. Princess Catherine has arrived!
ReplyDeleteThe Duchess looks amazing, as usual. This gown was a fun surprise.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else think all the pleats on this tour are hiding the beginnings of a belly?
Thanks for creating THE site for news and info on Kate.
Yes I do. I have looked at alot of the pictures taken of the Duchess the past three days and there is something going on in the tummy area. I don't think it is bloat.
DeleteBut the beautiful duchess has looked just stunning in everything she has put on so far. And the dress tonight was just stunning.
I don't like the dress at all, sorry.
ReplyDeleteI am focusing on the tour - when and if they're pregnant they'll let us know when they're ready.
PPx
What?! What was she thinking? This is a horrible dress. In fact, i havent been impressed at all with her sartorial choices this tour.
ReplyDeleteI'm still gasping for air here....oh my lord, just exquisite. Thankfully she did not wear a tiara, otherwise I would have fainted (just kidding, but barely).
ReplyDeleteJust exquisite. I literally got chills. What a gorgeous dress, so "regal" (no pun intended). It's the sort of dress that also combines, somehow, a bit of east and west. If I wore such a thing I'm sure I'd sashay around, like a little girl pretending to be princess.
This level of sartorial beauty is a first!!!! Silvia
Everything has been said about the dress, maybe it's time for us girls to address the makeup : SHE'S WEARING FALSE LASHES !
ReplyDeleteI think it's undeniable, on the photo where she sits at the desk. Her hair is as sleek and shiny as ever, beautiful.
I'd like to hear other thoughts about the false eyelashes, because it's the first time she wears some, right ?
Thanks Charlotte!
I thought the same you did on the picture where she is sat at the desk. I'm pretty sure she is wearing false lashes and I think it looks amazing!
DeleteNot a big fan of her dress, but she looks every inch a fairytale princess!
Thank you for this amazing coverage, Charlotte!
I noticed the false eyelashes too, right away. I have never noticed her wearing them before. Are they considered "stylish" now? They don't look horrible, just a bit different. I am not sure about the hair stylist she has accompanying her on this trip.... I wonder if she is influencing the make-up too?
DeleteI am not a big fan of this new hairstylist. I think Catherine's hair looks good, but hers locks used to be STUNNING. In my own experience, hairstylists can very much influence your make-up! I noticed her eyeliner is not that hard lately.
DeleteThought so too... I really like them on her on these pictures. I do find her make-up is getting better and better. Much more subtle than a year ago. Really beautiful. I'm sure the hair is more difficult to style because of the humidity.
DeleteTheresa from Paris
The dress has too much going on and looks very dated. Even Kate's elegance could not rescue it. Thumbs down.
ReplyDeleteWow...surprised so many don't like the dress...I too think it is stunning! Looks beautiful!
ReplyDelete'...Malaysian equivalent to Jimmy Choo" Haha! I found this kinda funny cause Jimmy Choo is Malaysian :-)
ReplyDeleteHehe! Was about to say the same too. :)
DeleteMakes me laugh how they both tower over everyone; they look like giants!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte, you're like a blogging ninja. I honestly don't know how you manage to get this all up so friggin' fast!! For my own purely selfish reasons, I hope you never have a hobby or a vacation or, God forbid, lose your internet connection. This blog is my crack.
Thank you Siobhan :) I'm a finance and law student so this blog is my favourite hobby :) I do love writing it and following Kate with all of you.
DeleteI agree. Love the blog, thank you!
DeleteI think William must be so proud of her. I think she has exceeded his expectations since marrying her. I would love to hear what he says to her when she looks so beautiful before these events!
DeleteI didn't know you were studying law. Are you looking at a law future? Any way I do have a question for you, hope you can give me some insight. On this tour (and the Canada) everything has been the focus of the beautiful Duchess. I was wondering how William feels about all the attention going to his beauitful Duchess? We all know that his father just hated all the attention William's beautiful mother was given. I just hope that William is not like his father. The Duchess & her Prince are such a great couple together.
DeleteI'm with you Siobhan. Love this blog!! But Charlotte, do you ever think she's going to wear a tiara??
DeleteThis blog is my crack too, Siobhan. Since this tour started it is the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning. I have to have my "what is Kate wearing" fix.
DeleteMy thoughts EXACTLY Siobhan - and I visit so often because Charlotte's take is always so positive and never resorts to gossip or speculation. I rarely read the comments as invariably someone has negative crap to say which is so boring(and funnily enough usually anon). We read this blog because, like Charlotte we have genuine affection for Kate and Will and have no desire to tear them down. Huge kudos to you Charlotte!
DeleteNot a fan of this dress...
ReplyDeleteShe looks stunning. I love it very much
ReplyDeleteWhile this gown is not one of my favorites, I think that it is really pretty and appropriate for the occasion. On the other hand, I think that her hair is needs a change up - the half up/half down look is getting old. I think a nice side pony would have looked more modern and young. Between the gown and the hair she looks way too old for her age. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteCan I love a dress and dislike it at the same time?
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, it's a beautiful, exquisite dress, fits perfectly, and flatters Kate's perfect figure. On the other, it's a bit too much of a good thing... I get the feeling that she is not completely comfortable wearing it.
All in all, looking very beautiful tonight, quite stunning.
Not a great fan of the dress, I think the white bust part conflicts with the rest, and I also think it is too low cut for the country. The other ladies are more covered. I do love the embroidery though.
ReplyDeleteMost of the other ladies appear to be at least 30years older than she is.The dress seems age appropiate
DeleteI like the dress but ONLY for this event - would look ridiculous for an event in the UK. Look how it compares to what other women are wearing - flowy and embellished. The black velvet McQueen would have looked totally out of place. Charlotte - great job as always!!
ReplyDeleteVery good point!!
Deleteshe looks beautiful and she wore this dress to represent and be respectful to the culture of the country.
ReplyDeleteOmg kate looks stunning. That dress is beautiful on kate and love love her hair. Love her makeup also. Wonder does she still do her own?? Keep up the lovely pics. Im obsessed at this stage with your blog charlotte.. kind regards from Ireland.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress! I thought it was perfect until people mentioned all the other women are covered. So maybe for this occasion it's a little low cut. Otherwise she looks like PRINCESS to me.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! As others have said, every inch the fairytale princess, and totally appropriate in the exotic place she is visiting. I would love to see the shoes. They look like gold sandals. Re: tiara, I wonder if the reason is that because William is not second in line to the throne it is not appropriate for Catherine to wear them yet. For example, Diana was Princess of Wales. Does Catherine have to wait until she is Princess of Wales? Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteShe can wear a tiara and does not have to be Peincess of Wales to do so. I imagine she has chosen to look more simple. She is wearing only simple jewellery -it's not a glittering occasion. I saw Kate a few weeks ago leaving the house where she lives in Anglesey and she looked very ordinary- hair in a ponytail and what looked like a sweatshirt- you would not have looked at her twice! Hard to imagine its the same person!
DeleteI did not like it either. This dress should have been in chiffon. It looks cheap material. She pulled it off though. Yes it was a but low neckline IMO
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! Like others have said, every inch the fairytale princess, and totally appropriate for the exotic locale. I would love to see the shoes. They look like gold sandals. Re: tiara, does she have to wait until she is Princess of Wales -- and William is second in line before she can wear one? Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteKate and William looked exquisite, and I love the dress!
ReplyDeleteSimply SUPERLATIVE!!! I really LOVE that dress!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the flash lights from all the camaras make it look more gawdy than it actually is. In real life I imagine it to be more subtle and less Bollywood!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that when the dress is worn in the UK, it will be minus the sleeves. I agree that the neckline was way too low for a conservative Islamic country such as Malaysia. (Although I was surprised that the Agong's wife did not cover her head!)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Kate wore heels! When you are a guest somewhere you respect the peoples likes and dislikes and culture. It just shows her lack of interest and disrespect. I mean is it so hard to not wear heels for one night? And not have such a low cut dress when you are in very conservative and mostly Muslim area?
ReplyDeleteExactly. Not everyone is interested in seeing Kate's girls. What is more, Kate, by wearing such very very high heels, does a great damage to her own spine so not the best choice at all...
DeleteAs with all royal tours, I am sure that everything in her wardrobe was well planned out. The royals are very careful about protocol.
DeleteOn the other hand, I've often wondered why many foreign royals/dignitaries do not dress in western style clothing when they come to Buckingham Palace as guests of the Queen?
I'm surprized of the clavage/bust part, but i like it,it's unusual of her,she looks like sheherezada from 1000 & 1 night.I'm sure royal protocolar department which is involved in every state visit wouldn't approve something inappropiate.her shoulders are covered and european ballgowns use to have a low neckline. Her yellow gold jewellery proofs me my belief she looks better in warmer colours. I bet the upper layer is separable, allowing her to wear again the gown,or just as a cream one,or maybe with some different overlay or bolero.
ReplyDeleteDear Charlotte and readers, what body shape is Catherine? Is it inverted triangle or what ?
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
Is iverted triangle... :)
DeleteWhile I can't say I particularly like the dress, I will say that I appreciate it. I think she was trying to go for the British princess looks a well as trying to mix in the malaysian style. I do like line though that she wore some new gold jewelry. Any word on where its from? -Brit
ReplyDeleteI love the dress and I don't think the neckline is too low. I wish that she had worn some kind of necklace. I believe that she honored the custom of the country, covering her shoulders and legs, but kept to her own sense of fashion too. She really is fab!!
ReplyDeleteAlso do you know what shoes she's wearing I can just see the type of them in one of your pictures & they look gold, so I dont if she's worn them before. Great post as always! -Brit
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! My favorite to date. She looks like a true Princess in this dress.... Perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!
DeleteLove the dress. OK, no tiara because the men didn't dress in formal dinner clothes but WHEN are we going to get to see this very regal woman in a tiara?? And she could have worn a nice diamond necklace instead of a tiara. I love this lady in jewels. She can carry them off. Let's face it. She can carry off just about anything. Once again, a great job YRH.
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether I like the dress or not, but it's a real fairytale princess dress. When I was a child I drew pictures of princesses all the time, and this is exactly the sort of dress I always imagined a real princess wearing :D I love Kate's hair and jewellery as well.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning and regal! Perfect. I also agree that a tiara would have been too much. I have a feeling she will choose a very understated gown the first time she wears a tiara.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is really appropiate for the occasion. Kate certanily knows what she's doing. The dress is beautiful, but for me golden details are just a little too much. But I' m too pretty shure that the upper layer is separable, and that we will see Kate wearing this dress again but just as the cream simple version.
ReplyDeletePersonally, this dress is not really my cup of tea and a departure from Kate's usual style.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think Sarah Burton and Kate absolutely nailed it if their intention is to create a modern/ western take on a traditional Malay 'kebaya' dress. Just look at the dress the local Malay ladies wear in the pictures and you can see the similarity of Kate's dress with them. Kate's dress does not look out of place at all and they all have quite similar embellishments and fabric style.
In that sense, this dress is perfect for this occasion. Sarah Burton and her team fully understood how the women dress in this country and create their own interpretation of the local style. It is a success to me.
The only thing I found it funny is how exposed bare arm is not allowed but it's okay for cleavage. :)
About cleavage- so very true:)
DeleteI think the dress fits her just right! Catherine looks gorgeous like always, the dress has lots of details, and is different, but beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress but super disappointed she skipped the tiara
ReplyDeleteAmazing dress - absolutely spectacular!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress no tiara:(
ReplyDeleteWhat am I missing? I can see Kate's princess beauty, but not a dress for a
ReplyDeleteprincess.Sorry to sound so strident, but I really do not like the dress at all. The fashion forward corset looks like it is a bra, with a dress sewn avound it.
Kudos to Kate though for honoring her hosts by the choice of flower and the silk material.
I do not like the dress. Looks like a carnival costume!
ReplyDeleteNot like Kates style at all & far too low for her status. The sheer overleaf is very dated. All her other outfits have been fantastic though!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, this has nothing to do with the subject of the post, but I need to ask you! Have you heard something about topless photos of the Duchess being released tomorrow? I simply can't believe it. If this is true, I can't believe how far people can go to just earn some money.
ReplyDeleteI heard about half an hour ago. Closer Magazine France are publishing fully topless photos of Kate from the break in Provence.
DeleteNeedless to say I am wholeheartedly disgusted.
So this is really true? This photos actually exist? OMG. I was hoping it was just a ridiculous rumor. How sad she might be right now. I am truly and deeply sorry for both Catherine and William!
DeleteIt's definitely true Ana, I cannot imagine how Kate must feel. She's a private person and this is a disgraceful intrusion of privacy.
DeleteFirst Harry now Kate. Absolutely zero respect.
OMG. That is beyond tasteless and cruel. I feel so sorry for her if this happens. I wonder if "the firm" can do anything from a legal standpoint ?? After all, this was private time.
DeleteFrom what I can gather they were taken on the terrace of Viscount Liney's house. It is a horrific invasion of privacy. Such a pity there is nothing the palace can do.
DeleteThank you for your answering my question so fast. I am glad to know you are a person who obviously have a sweet heart and won't public these disgusting pictures on your wonderful blog. Thank you again, Charlotte.
DeleteIf these pictures are released tomorrow it is going to be a shame. I just can't imgime how she and William are going to feel while on tour. It is bad enough to have them released while you are at home but on a tour for the Queen. I hope the fans here on this great blog will not stoop that low and look at them. I know I will not. It is their privacy again being invaded.
DeleteThen you will have people saying she should have known better but I would disagree with them. They were on private property and there was no one else there. She was with her husband and I would think that if William was worried that there could have been photos take of his topless wife he would have suggested that she not do it. But they were together enjoying each other.
How sad :( I feel sorry for Kate. I was wondering where it could have happened. Why she would feel so "safe" as to do that and I just read Charlotte's comment saying it was at Viscount Liney's house, WOW! Unbeliaveable! How embarrasing this must be for Kate. I would be so angry and upset. Now, with the internet THE WHOLE WORLD will be able to see such an intimate moment... Prince William must be livid. He already hates the media.
DeleteBea
Very appropriate dress for the occasion and very flattering on her grace, the duchess of Cambridge. However her grace needs to learn to wear necklaces the lower neckline would have been less noticeable with a statement gold one
ReplyDeleteIt is a horrible invasion and disrespect of privacy, needless to say. Nonetheless, the Royals KNOW how terribly invasive and cameras are and how shamelessly photographers operate-they know how a picture can be captured when and how one LEAST expects it (need I recount the number of incidents: HRH at the beauty parlor, their honeymoon, their family vacation, etc. etc.???). If I were a royal, I would, quite simply, never ever go topless. Just never. It's too much of a risk.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the photographs will NOT be published. Silvia
Bea you are absolutely correct. William WILL be livid. He watched the paparazzi hound his mother to her death and now he must feel helpless in trying to protect his wife. And for this to happen when they are on an official tour........and if she IS pregnant...........it's just disgusting beyond belief.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about photos. France should feel ashamed of their actions especially after Diana.
ReplyDeleteHold your head up Kate you did nothing wrong.
Not everyone in Malaysia covers their head. Only Muslim women does it and even then not all them does it such as many women from royalties and Ministers' wife do not cover their head. Example, the Queen, the Prime Minister's wife, Deputy Prime Minister's wife all do not cover their head.
ReplyDeleteThought she would have worn a Malaysian designer dress like in Singapore and a long dinner gown in the Malay style would have done wonders for her. A bit disapointed there :((
I'm a great fan of Kate's style, but I don't like this dress at all. It's too much. Too much golden embroidery. The top of the dress is a little inappropriate for the occasion. Plus, it's ageing and old-fashioned. I cannot believe this is a MacQueen dress...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite so far is the beautiful and exotic Prabal Gurung dress.
Kind regards, from Portugal.
I love this dress!!! The top is not too low at all- she looks like a Disney Princess!
ReplyDeleteRe: the France pictures, they were taken during a private moment and without her consent, they absolutely should NOT have been published. Shame on the French media.
