Duchess Kate Bids Farewell to Solomon Islands in Primrose Dress

Fresh from their night on paradise island Tavinipupu William and Kate travelled back to Honiara where they participated in a departure ceremony at Honiara airport.

Royal aides said William and Kate had an idyllic time together on Tavinipupu island where they enjoyed a romantic dinner and snorkelled in the rain. They also said the couple are very much looking forward to the next leg of the tour in Tuvalu.

Kate talked with locals at the airport and looked refreshed and relaxed.

The Duchess was given a pink and white striped fan to keep cool in the stifling Solomon Islands heat.

Kate looked lovely in a primrose lace dress dotted with flowers that was made for her by an independent dressmaker. It is quite possibly the same unidentified designer who designed the coat she wore for the Christmas service at Sandringham. Yesterday the Duchess wore a yellow Jaeger dress and it's great to see her choosing another bright and vibrant colour today. Kate wore her hair in an elegant updo.

A closer look at the lace detail.

Kate wore her Stuart Weitzman Minx Wedges.

Kate accessorized with her 18 carat yellow gold and citrine drop earrings by Kiki McDonough. They are available for £495.

The couple are currently en route to Tuvalu. It is a 2,000 km journey and takes just under three hours.

  2. I have been enjoying your posts so much on this tour. I think I am going to have withdrawals when the tour is over. Do you think there is still a possibility for a tiara at the Official Dinner hosted by the Governor_General? I am not getting hopes up. I am starting to think we won't see a tiara until Kate is the Princess of Wales. Nevertheless, her wardrobe has been nothing short of perfection on this tour.

Man you are fast Ms. Charlotte. Great post. Can't wait until we see more pictures.

    Your the best.

  4. I don't think we'll see a tiara unfortunately. I had hoped we would but think it highly unlikely at this stage.

Can you all believe it's the last full day of the tour?

  5. IMHO this is her best look of the tour. She looks stunning.

Charlotte, once again thank you for your incredible work and no, I can`t believe this is the last full day already!!

  6. I have to say I'm bored. Every single dress is the same cut, dull color, boring. She wore the same dress in a different color just less than a day. I thought she was going to be in a gown with jewels. when? I think her wardrobe choice in Canada was way better.

    1. This tour is a culturally different tour to Canada. She had to accomadate heat and still look nice. I loved her choices. My opinion. sorry

    2. I agree with Louise. The climate and local cultures involved in this tour were different than those in Canada. The outfits the Duchess has sported have been lighter and a touch more casual, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

  7. I hate to say it but I did not like one single dress on this tour. So frumpy! The Canadian tour was 1000x better!

    1. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. On a fashion site called Red Carpet Fashion Awards, they did a poll on which one of Kate's looks was most favorable. And there wasn't one flash of color in the lot. It's all beige or white. And yes, every dress looks like the one before it. The blue Mulberry was like the yellow one prior to that. She dressed like a 50 year old woman during the entirety of the tour, with hairstyles and shoes that only exacerbated the problem.

I appreciate very, very much that she has her hair up, but this is the only updo style she sports. She wore the same bun a few days ago, and to the Olympic gala, to the Creative Industries reception, and in Canada with that purple dress. It's a gorgeous bun, but it's too glamorous for daytime events. It's like she has absolutely no creativity. I loved that ponytail she had during the Olympics when she and William embraced. That would have been lovely during this tour.

    2. I love that she dresses her way, her style (she has stated that she is not a clotheshorse). I love that she wears the same - likely very comfortable - shoes with many outfits, recycles, and often buys the previous seasons clothes at a discount, and more.

Yes, in my books, one of her most endearing qualities is that she does her best to look nice "on the job" while not becoming a slave to fashion.

    3. I agree that her style is quite boring for a young person. She wears the same style over and over again with no flare or creativity and what's with sleeves on that yellow dress.

  8. What's with the sleeves? I like the color and texture and all other details except that I failed to understand the sleeves..

  9. This dress has a very traditonal feel to it...I love vintage.

  10. Ummm, her waist is TINY!!! Great post Charlotte....as always :)

  11. Her stomach looks a little pooched out in this dress. Maybe the similar styling of many of her tour dresses is because the heat and humidity are hard on her, especially if she is in the early stages of pregnancy, and this style of dress is the most comfortable. I think she looked most comfortable in the batik gift dress.

    1. I have to disagree; I'm not sure the Duchess's waist line could possibly appear much trimmer or her figure more stunning.

  12. I like the dress and the shoes work well with it, but I think the sleeves would be more flattering if they were fitted. Her figure is stunning and they detract from that.

    1. I think it's worth bearing in mind that slightly more open sleeves are cooler than fitted ones, and the duchess is touring in hot weather.

  14. It's been a while since I commented, hasn't it?! LOL Well I guess we chatter on Twitter now so that is enough ;)

Kate looked lovely in this, as always! I like the effect the lace has on the dress. Makes it seem more feminine and summery.

    *hugs to you*

Hello! Even though I always think she looks awesome in everything she wears, this dress Is not my favourite... In fact, it appears to be a crochet ensamble, which I honestly don't like. However, she can wear a potato sack and still looks wonderful.
I am so sad this tour is coming to an end... I really like to come here and be able to express my opinions and read your thoughts. It is very fun!
Charlotte, it is a pleasure to be your faithful reader! You have a huge talent! Thank you for making this week a delightful experience. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did. And I hope you can have a relaxing night of sleep very soon!

I have loved covering the tour, it has been amazing fun and I thoroughly enjoyed researching locations and new designers. It's a wonderful end to the summer for me :)

  17. Very pretty color on Kate although I would add a bit of length to the dress. Far from looking old, it looks girlish to me. For a tour like this, a very traditional style seems appropriate. Her stomach looked very flat in the rainforest photos, think any bulging is most likely due to the dress's material. It seems unlikely Kate would risk the early days of pregnancy on such a hot and strenuous tour. It seems more likely that will be next on the agenda when they return. Wonder if a summer born baby would be desirable for the future king or queen? Would they change trooping to actual birth date?

  18. I love the exquisite detailing on this dress and the beautifully unique pattern; it provides a wonderful juxtaposition to the casual fit and fabric of the dress.

  19. I think she looks beautiful, classy, and extremely appropriate. We have to remember that the cultural difference between Canada and this tour is very wide! What was fitting for Canada does not necessarily work here. She has been careful to wear designers in Canada FROM Canada, and designers and fashions from this region of the world now. She isn't accidentally erring on the side of conservative or has all of a sudden turned into a frumpy fran. Everything she puts on was chosen in advance with careful thought and Great intention. We can't judge those choices just because it doesn't work for our own culture.

  22. I don´t mind that is 3rd dress in similart style, it´s normal that person with a consistent personal style has similar pieces in his/her wardrobe since he/she knows what suits her and there is no reason why change it (without being a fashion slave)and yes, I like this vintage yet young style very much (and the up do of course..I wouldn´t say that is always the same one..this is less elaborated than those updos in Malaysia, appropiate for the occasion in my eyes). This yellow suits her a lot and it´s very summer color, perfect for where she is.
Canada/USA wasn´t for me so consistent from the point of the fashion, more like she had brought many old pieces and pieces borrowed from her mother (or like so). The second Erdem (royal blue one) was for my taste overdressed for daytime walkabout, too many variation on navy/cream and so on. This tour has shown much developed personal style of hers (that cannot be a cup of tea of everybody, which is normal- but mine is very very much)and of cours her outfits have reflected the climatical condition and whole the character of the tour, hence I wouldn´t compare the tours so much.
I don´t understand one think - maybe Charlotte or someone else can explain me- what is this about independet designer-why she doesn´t name him? Wouldn´t it be a huge advertisment for him? - and very well deserved one because this dress has nothing to envy to McQueen white or navy Mulberry and the aubergine coat is one of my time favorite. He/she need a publicity more than haut couture houses and well nown fashion brands, doesn´t he/she?
Thanks in advance for a potential explanation!
