Duchess Kate watched the Olympic Laser Radial medal race off Weymouth today.

Kate was on a boat and used her binoculars to watch China's Xu Lijia take gold and Team GB's Alison Young come fourth. The Duchess has a personal interest in aquatic sports. She and William competed in a dragon boat race in Prince Edward Island last year.

Kate was accompanied by The Princess Royal, her husband Sir Tim Lawrence and Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave.

  1. It's weird when people put their arm around royals. I don't think it shows enough respect. I don't think that guy would dare put his arm around Camilla, he shouldn't to Catherine either!

    1. Hey you just took every word out of my mouth. LOL But I guess technically speaking, Kate was not a true blue blood so it might be easier? I know nobody does that to the Queen. haha Last time Mrs. Obama did something to that degree and got seriously criticized.

    2. I did find this odd too but looking at the photo it appears she has her arm behind him on his back too.

    3. Seriously? Who cares what color blood they have or whether they have royal status? One of the best things Diana did was making "royalty" more accessible - she was known for touching and hugging the people she was working with through her charitable efforts and people loved her! Kate seems to be continuing that, as evidenced by her highly photographed hug with the little girl on the tarmac in Canada. The idea that it's disrespectful to touch someone simply because of the family they were born into/married into is an antiquated, ridiculous one that needs to go away once and for all when the royal family passes the torch to the younger set.

    4. I totally agree with Anonymous @21:02. Diana understood how important it is for the royals to be more accessible in order to remain relevant in modern times. Clearly, William, Kate, and Harry are following her example.

    5. Aren't you reading into it a bit too much? We are all speculating here. Nobody said for sure that because Kate's not being born royal so people could do whatever...I was just throwing out there a wild guess. Nothing serious. You can calm down now.

    6. I do think people read into it too much.. but just personally whenever I take a picture with someone I am not familiar with, I do not touch them. Mainly, cause I do not want to make them uncomfortable. If they go in for the arm around the waist/shoulders though, I usually reciprocate.

  2. Hi Charlotte, have Kate's pearl earrings been ID'd? I was looking at The Tiffany link you posted yesterday and saw some very similar looking ones. I posted a link on your twitter I don't know if you saw it but I could be wrong as there are a lot of these earrings around :) nice to see Kate with her hair up again sensible in the windy conditions I think it suits her :)

Oh Ms. Charlotte- You are always on the ball bring us all the up to date information on the beautiful Duchess. Great post this morning. Sad that William had to return to work and leave his Duchess on her own. Wow they will be separated for the rest of the week. I bet that will be hard on them both. Now unless she goes back and forth on her days off this week.

Thanks again for this great blog.

    1. I agree, despited the oddness feeling of the last picture of that guy putting his arm around her. But all in all she has been looking so pretty and naturale throughout the entire event so far.

  8. I always like to see Kate becoming more and more involved into the Royal family, this time it’s with the Princess Royal and her husband. I have often wondered how Kate gets along with the other royals, apparently she is a very positive and friendly person, so she is by no means an obstacle to good family relations, but I do not know enough about the royal family. Obviously she is well-liked by Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. I was not sure about the Queen, but I think she likes Kate. But what about the Yorks? Honestly, if Beatrice and Eugenie felt some kind of jealousy towards the beautiful and admired Kate, I could somehow understand them. They have always been “there”, but no one has really taken notice, and then Kate turns up and so many people are enthusiastic about her. Do have any “royal insider”-information, dear Charlotte?

  9. I think looking at the full length front shot of Kate today the skinny jeans and red trainers combo look much better than I first thought from looking at the side photo yesterday! I also think they look better with the jacket as opposed to the polo as the jacket comes down a bit lower than the polo which goes better with the jeans IMO :) I've noticed Kate has attended several events with Princess Anne over the Olympics which I think is lovely to see Kate with other members of the royal family besides William and Harry and them getting along so well :)

  12. @ her pic with Greg- she is generally very guarded about any pic bt this one seems like she is cool abt it. Maybe she didnt like Will's pic with Lizzie. Remember the pic with another guy during their brief split which got her William back.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the picture of the Duchess with the gentleman. There is a picture with the Duchess & her Prince taken with another young lady and they both have their arm around her. I don't remember seeing William by himself with another girl. And I don;t think the Duchess would be upset anyway. There seems to be trust in their marriage.

I will miss seeing William & his beautiful Duchess together the rest of the week. Sad she has to go solo. By the way any idea who the woman is with teh Duchess in the first picture? Not sure if that is Rebecca?

    1. That is Rebecca, She's been promoted to Kate's private secretary.

    2. Do you know what a private secretary has to do?
      Lovely photos : )

    3. I agree Pauline. I don't see anything wrong with the picture of Kate and that man. It's just a moment in time and very much the reality of Kate's royal life and duties these days. If all the pictures of Kate and William attending the Olympic Games don't make the state of their marriage perfectly clear, then nothing will.

  15. Get a life you lot. Whilst William goes to work, Kate, well doesnt and continues to erm socialise. Royal family are over paid hand shakers, they don't work, they are paid to socialise. Not appropriate in this economic climate.

    1. I find it unfair that the royal family seem to have the pick of seats- not just for the main members of the family but also all their hangers on. I tried for weeks to get tickets with no success. Kate should feel embarrassed at the high achievements of these young athletes. This is a woman who for ten years had no real job and was 'kept' by her parents/wealthy boyfriend.

  16. She seems a little shy girl next Greg Searle. Lovely!!

  17. Lol!!! Her face, she looked confuse she's was probably wondering if that kind of behavior is allow from the palace. Maybe the queen herself should be more like kate a REAL person. I would rather meet kate then any blood born royal.
