William, Kate and Harry Support Zara Philips at Greenwich

William, Kate and Harry were at Greenwich Park today to support the princes' first cousin Zara Philips as she competes in the Equestrian Crosscountry.

London 2012
The Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were also on the sidelines.

The scenic Greenwich Park is London's oldest park, dating back to 1433 and has been strongly associated with royalty since the land was inherited by Henry V's brother. There is a large grassland enclosure, covering almost thirteen acres which serves as a sanctuary for deer, foxes and birds. The park is the host venue for the Olympic Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon events and the Paralympic Equestrian events.

Thirty one year old Zara Philips is the daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband Mark
Philips. Princess Anne did not want her children to have a title but Zara is fourteenth in line to the throne. Zara was voted BBC Sports personality of the year in 2006, sadly her horse Toytown suffered injuries which meant she missed out on the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

Both her parents competed in the Olympics in equestrian competition (Princess Anne in 1976 and Captain Mark Philips in 1972 winning gold) so one could say it is in her blood. This time Zara is determined to go for gold with her horse High Kingdom and I wish her the very best of luck!

Zara performed wonderfully and was visibly delighted with her performance.

Kate is wearing her navy Smythe blazer. It was available for $357 at Saks but is now sold out. The Duchess first wore it twice during the Canada tour (Smythe is based in Toronoto)

The Duchess wore the London 2012 Olympic Games Logo Pin Badge  on the lapel of her blazer. It is available in green, blue, pink and orange for £6.

Tomorrow the royals will attend the jumping finals where they are expected to hand out medals. Before that, Kate has a solo engagement this evening at the UK Creative Industries reception. It's going to be a very glitzy black tie event apparently.

Finally, a photo of a Kate look-alike caused quite a stir at the Olympics on Saturday with many questioning could it be Kate?

Twitter

It was later revealed the lady in the photo had attended ladies day at the park with a Pippa look-alike. The cream lace McQueen repli-Kate is beautiful (although the nude heels were a giveaway, Kate would almost certainly team the dress with her Sledge pumps). Do you think the ladies resemble the Middleton sisters?

  2. This is crazy! I just watched William wave on TV and you posted almost immediately. You are amazing!

They look like they are enjoying themselves while supporting Zara. So happy for them.

As for the lookalikes, the blurry photo looks so much like Kate! The hair and the body type especially. Not so much in the face. However, if I had seen the Pippa lookalike in person, I might have believed it was her!

  4. Small campaign for Greenwich PArk - I used to live nearby.

If you are in London, take the boat from either Charing Cross Pier or Tower Pier and go down river to Greenwich. See the Cutty SArk (1800's Tea Clipper~); visit the Queen's House (the building behind the grand arena); the Maritime Museum and jump from east to west over the line of 0 degrees - where we all measure time from - GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). Nice old pubs, wonderful 19th century church, shops and history. Great place.

Get back to central London by train OR you can walk through the first foot tunnel under the Thames and get a train from there.

Love the posts - really good.

  5. Dear Charlotte,

Unfortunately, I am unable to follow the events on the BBC as they would not allow me because of my location.

I can see that Duchess Camilla and also Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are present. A great support to Zara! I wish her good luck too.

No doubt there will be more photos and comments on this site very soon.

Thank you for being so fast, Charlotte!

Best wishes from the South of France!

    1. Try installing Expat Shield; it will reroute your IP through the UK. I've given up on NBC here in the US and the BBC feed is by far the best one I've found out there!

HI Grace- Isn't it nice to see the beautiful Duchess & her Prince show each other some PDA. Love seeing William holding her hand. That is sooo sweet. And some of the pictures look like William want's to kiss his Duchess, again so sweet.

I too hope these pictures and others that have been on teh internet but any speculation to bed regarding their marriage. These photos show just how much in love they are.

  10. Makes sense that Kate would dress in a low-key way as to not outshine Zara. Was startled how many empty seats there are near the royal party. Are events not sold out or is a buffer of empty seats put between the royal party and everyone else? Thanks for the quick update as always

    1. No---these are seats issued to sponsors and the Olympic officials, who have not bothered to turn up for the early heats of events.

There have been complaints and they are now taking some of those passes back

  11. aaawww, I love the post and the pictures of the couple! so beautiful!

The first lookalike picture from kate was very confusing at the first sight. And yes because of the shoes I thought that's isn't her! :-)

But the Pippa lookalike...looks like her. Funny..

I was just looking thru some pictures on another website and there are some great pictures of the beautiful Duchess & her Prince holding hands. Just priceless. I think they were on www.newscom.com if any one is interested.

    They look so in love.

  14. That first pic of them is so adorable. They look so in love. In that pic of them holding hands that you linked, they look like they want to go in for a kiss. If they did, I wonder what the Queen would say. Thank you for the fabulous coverage you provide. I check your blog at least once a day.

Rachel- I agree that William look's like he want's to kiss his beautiful Duchess. I don't think the Queen would say anything. I feel the Queen loves the fact that they are so in love & that they are young and that is what young couples in love do. Even royal couples.

    2. Pauline, when I saw the photos today, I remembered a lot from you. There is a picture they are holding hands ... beautiful moment. And really, I thought this picture William was tempted to kiss Kate :)

Ana Laura- I so agree with you. I don't know how they do it. William must have great will power not to kiss his beautiful Duchess. And if I was Catherine I would just oull him soo close and give him a big kiss...lol
I loved the fact that they were holding hands, so sweet.

Great post! You remain my source for all things Kate; being in the US (6 hours behind you) I keep abreast of the goings on through this blog!
Thanks for all you do, Charlotte.

    5. Thank you so much Shantel :)

I too, just *love* reading the comments and yes, Pauline's are always fascinating to read. It's wonderful so many of you take the time to comment which has led to a great, respectful group of people discussing Kate's style, life and royal events.

A huge thank you to you all!

@Shantel- Thank you for the kind words. I just love the royal couple but I do get myself into trouble sometimes with some of the people who reads the blog. I have been called harsh in some of my comments. But I feel and this is just my opinion some who post here don't have a clue. But I do speak my mind.

And Charlotte thanks for the shout out. I can only write here because of you and this great blog. And all who come here for all info on the beautiful Duchess.

    2. at least 3 pairs of black wedges, 2 (now 3) nude pumps, at least 2 pairs of navy court shoes, and countless black pumps. ridiculous, and sets a poor example of frugality.

      Delete
    3. While I'm glad that you are able to keep track of every pair of shoes Kate has boughten, have you considered how well worn those shoes all are? She wears them often when she could instead go out & but a new pair for every outfit, so I would hardly call that a poor example. And also, that is really actually a small collection of shoes, mine & many of my friends are much larger
