The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams gave a sermon to mark the Queen's jubilee.
'I found in the Queen, someone who can be friendly, who can be informal, who can be extremely funny in private - and not everybody appreciates just how funny she can be - who is quite prepared to tease and be teased, and who, retaining her dignity always, doesn't stand on her dignity in a conversation'.

The young royals looking very tired. One can only assume the after party at Buckingham Palace went on rather late last night :)
Kate and Harry exchanged smiles after the service.
Kate looked lovely in a bespoke Alexander MvQueen blush overlay lace dress. Kate has chosen McQueen for all three days of the Jubilee weekend. The Duchess wore a red pleated dress to the Thames Pageant and a black McQueen jacket to yesterdays concert. Since Sarah Burton created Kate's wedding dress she appears to be Kate's 'go to' designer. The pair built a strong working relationship whilst planning the wedding dress. Another beautiful choice today. Again we see Kate favouring lace.
A look at the back of dress. The ribbon belt is a lovely touch.
Kate wore the Nude Beaded Cocktail Hat by milliner Jane Taylor. The hat features a birdcage veil with a disc trim and cost £790.

After the service William, Kate and Harry attended a reception at the Guildhall. Kate dined with Master Glovers and Pattenmakers, a body founded in the 17th century as a trade association. The menu included canapes with Sandringham Apple Juice, Fresh Herb Salad with Lemon Dressing, Marinated Uist Island Salmon with Lyme Bay Crab, Bread and Butter Pudding and Berry Compote with Sandringham Apple Sauce.

The carriages left New Palace Yard and passed Whitehall, Trafalgar Square. through Admiralty Arch and down the mall before entering Buckingham Palace. The mall was lined with 1,000 servicemen and women from the three services. You can watch a 3D video of the processional route here.
Footguards took their places on the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace awaiting the Queen's arrival from Westminster.
At 3.30 p.m. the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately the rain began to fall as the royals came out but it certainly didn't damped the spirits of the estimated 1.5 million people who lined the mall.

It must have been an amazing moment for Her Majesty, to witness the incredible turnout. It has been repeatedly said throughout the weekend how 'unifying' the jubilee has been.

I agree with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams when he says:'I found in the Queen, someone who can be friendly, who can be informal, who can be extremely funny in private - and not everybody appreciates just how funny she can be - who is quite prepared to tease and be teased, and who, retaining her dignity always, doesn't stand on her dignity in a conversation'.... :-)
ReplyDeleteA very happy anniversary Queen Elizabeth.
She looks gorgeous! I really love this outfit, especially the hat. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteMcQueen, again? I really wonder how much money Kate is allowed to spent in a month. McQueen isnt really the cheap... Do you have any idea?
ReplyDeleteBest,
Maria
This question has been brought up many times in different blogs and sites. I don't know for sure but I read that Kate is a girl with money to her own right. I don't think she would get more allowance than any other royal family members.
Deleteactually, i think she does get more than (most) other family members. civil list money (or what used to be called civil list money, now it's a lump sum to the queen who doles out the money) is allocated according to number of engagements AND closeness to the throne. in addition, charles' (considerable) duchy income pays for him, his wife, both sons and now son's wife (and their households). so, eg, diana had a much bigger allowance than fergie, for example. AND william has his own allowance from his inheritance from his mother (and from the queen mother, and other family trusts).
Deletekate's a v practical girl, and i'm sure she stays within her allowance. her wearing of high street certainly stretches her allowance to include some designer pieces.
if ppl want to speculate about perceived extravagance they should wonder about bea and eugenie. they certainly live the high life and have designer wardrobes, and pay for it all (plus at least periodically pay for their mother!) from trusts + their father. there is no indication they are running up debts. and they have fewer $ resources than kate (and william and harry).
kate était magnifique comme toujours! <3
ReplyDeleteSo much for the "they're just like us" image the Palace PR machine was trying to spin for William and Kate. But that's OK because I think most of us weren't buying it anyway. And what's with William's perpetual scowl/glare??? Smile, dude, you're rich, you don't have to work and you're gonna be the king someday!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is this comment supposed to mean? And what PR spin is the Palace doing for William & his beautiful Duchess?
Deleteanonymous >> very true
DeleteYou do realise that Prince William does work, he's a full tile pilot in the RAF (amongst other extremely specialist military training he's had) - he saves people's lives....2 years ago the prince and his team saved a man having a heart attack on a gas rig. It's not every man that does that kind of courageous act as a job! Besides working full time he also has constant royal duties - it must be exhausting! Of purse he is rich etc but it's not for sitting on his backside!
DeleteKate looks gorgeous -- I love the soft peachy shade of her outfit, so flattering to her complexion. The hat is another triumph and the dress is fabulous -- I especially like the longer length of skirt she's chosen, I think it suits her.
ReplyDeleteI like too that she's used the McQueen label again -- it seems like a reference to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and I'm especially delighted that we've been treated to new outfits rather than more repeats. It's a hard one to judge -- when the occasion demands the dignity of a good show and when recycling is appropriate. I think Kate gets it just right.
Ditto! Silvia
DeleteLove the dress and hat. I think its a sign by wearing Mcqueen that she and William are okay because her wedding dress was Mcqueen:)
ReplyDeleteOh I love the photo of Harry, Kate & William looking incredibly tired and bored at the service, Harry's expression is great :)
ReplyDeleteThe blush colored hat is just breathtaking. However, the dress is the same cut and same belt that she has worn over and over again. And as much as I love her style, I would love to see her in different shoes than the LK Bennett sledge.
ReplyDeleteKate's lace dress is absolutely stunning and such a perfect contrast to the jaunty tailoring of the red outfit. Do wish Kate had worn her very princess like pink satin shoes instead of the usual platforms which seem a little casual for that dress. Do think it regrettable Camilla wore a very similar color to queen on the boat ride and such a huge hat compared to her majesty on the carriage ride. Wonder if she doesn't feel a bit sandwiched between mother-in-law and step-daughter-in-law and is looking for attention.
ReplyDeleteKate, William, and Harry look like they need a good nap. That is so cute. Thank you for this wonderful blog post. I LOVE Kate's outfit. It is nothing short of perfection.
ReplyDeleteLook's like they had one good time last night. I had to laugh at the picture showing Harry sleeping during the service.
DeleteYay well done the Duchess for wearing British brands! Makes me so proud to be studying fashion in London :o) such a great weekend - god save the Queen, long may she reign :o) xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a hilarious picture of Harry, Kate, and Will all looking like they're still feeling the effects of last night haha. Guess it was a great concert and reception last night :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw this one in the morning news today. This girl loves lace! :) I was just curious, (not speculating), why she stood very next to Harry but rather a bit more distanced from William? Because William had to stand next to the Queen as Phillip is at hospital and cannot make it? God bless his heart and health!
ReplyDeleteI am ok with this dress, but nothing that awed me like the previous red number.
First of all, I apologize for causing sound like I'm "controversy" here on the blog. I love the blog and Charlotte, all the readers here are very kind, but what I do not really like is to mask the situation. What I think is that there has been a problem in the relationship between William and Kate (something new), and they are not able to disguise, and Harry have noticed and tries to soften the situation with good humor. I hope these potential problems between William and Kate are passengers and love and harmony to reign again. Kisses! (Sorry for my bad english, but I'm brazilian and I use the feature online translators to post here).
DeleteI didn't notice her standing any closer to Harry then William. She was between the both of them. William was doing his duty to the Queen as was his father. I don't think there is anything going on here.
DeletePauline, I was referring to CBS morning news today when you could clearly see Kate was moving toward Harry's direction and chatted a couple of times. But I don't want to speculate as I hate that myself. Some might say "keep that to yourself then". LOL
DeleteAna Laura, your English is much better than mine, seriously. :) All good here.
I agree with Pauline! I bet nothing is wrong! It is nice to see Kate and Harry getting along so well!
DeleteI am brazilian too, and I know nothing about british protocol, but I can see a reason why the Duchess is standing a little bit far from William and why the chairs are so separate from each other: it's the absence of Prince Philip ! The protocol had to arrange things in order not to seem there was something "missing",like an empty place, so I THINK, they put the chairs with some space between them and got William to stand a little bit closer to the Queen than he would if the Prince was there. Like Pauline I don't think theres is anything going on.
DeleteBeatrice
i wouldn't go so far as to say there are problems in their mariage, but i have to admit i did notice how the pics show wills laughing/talking with harry and kate laughing/talking with harry, but not many photos of wills and kate talking/laughing.
Deleteon the chair issue: actually the queen and philip were supposed to sit above and apart from everyone else (on throne like chairs). but with philip in hospital, they didn't want her to sit on her own, so they moved her chair in line with her family's. so there is no blank space and awkward gaps, in fact they squeezed her chair in with the others.
Alpa- I have seen alot of photos of William and his beatuiful Duchess and they were talking and laughing. I think since his grandfather was not there it was his job to fill the space. There is a strict protocal that has to be followed so when we would see William with is arm around his Duchess, you would not see that yesterday. The Duchess know's her job and does it well and that job is to support her Prince.
DeleteSo let's just wish them well and for a long and happy marriage.
Pauline and alpa, I do not know whether this behavior of William and Kate is due to obey the royal protocol, since I've noticed a tension between the two since their appearance in the game of polo, in which Kate attended the awards . But the important thing is that if, in fact, happening a problem between them, which is something that could be resolved soon and that they are already good. They only have one year of marriage and need every day, redeem each one, what attracted them from the beginning of the relationship. This is important to make the marriage work. Kisses from Brazil!
DeleteShe looks fantastic! This will probably be one of my favorite outfits of the year. She wears those soft tones so well, and always looks fabulous in lace. Her hair pulled back with the hat is just perfect. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteshe looks lovely but it's not my fave
ReplyDeleteWell what a wonderful day for the Queen (except for missing Prince Phillip). I loved the Duchess' Dress & hat. She looked just stunning and William looked very handsome. They did look very tired. Must have had a great time last night. I love the picture showing them looking like they were going to take a nap during the service. But just wondering why they had them sitting so far apart. All the chairs were like that.
ReplyDeleteI just wonder how many comments your going to get about the Duchess & Harry laughing while they were on the balcony. At one point William did not look to happy. But again he had a late night last night.
Is there any word if William and his Duchess are goingback to Wales for a few days of rest before they have to be back in London night week for their engagement with the Queen? I would think that William would need to go back to work and the Duchess back to being just William's wife.
And finally thank you for all teh grat work you do for us fans.
A lovely day for the Queen and the rest of the family. It is really too bad Prince Phillip had to miss it all. In one picture it is evident they all had a late night with the concert. Hopefully they will get some downtime until there next big events. I thought Kate looked great (I loved her dress, she looks great in neutrals) and so did the Queen!
ReplyDeletea lovely day for the queen love the royal family and the queen i thought im so sad about prince phillip the diamond jubilee i hope prince phillip will be wave to crowds and smiling im so much sick thhis day i afford to open because i want to see the final roll ofthe queen jubilee
ReplyDeleteHer make-up really is awful. She wears too much and it looks so harsh. Blush should look natural, but her's is too pink. And her eye make-up is dreadful. Why on earth does she wear black/gray eyeshadow for daytime events? If she wore beige or neutral colors it would make her eyes look much bigger and youthful.
ReplyDeleteI must say that I have to agree with that. I love her fashion sense, and hairstyles, but nine times out of ten her make up is painful to look at. I do not know what she does wrong but it looks kind of cheap, as if she was using bad, cheap products which I do not believe is the case. I think that professional make up artist, someone who works with actresses for example could help her.
DeletePerhaps she's oblivious? I think her worst look was her wedding day, with that hard eye-liner, dark blush and charcoal eye shadow. Who wears dark make-up on their wedding day? If she wore different color eye liners and wore softer hues of eye shadow, she'd look great. As to why she doesn't allow a professional to apply her makue-up, I think she's stubborn.
DeleteSO lovely!
ReplyDeleteP.S: i agree on the make up matter.

@Noor & Manar- If you don't like the beautiful Duchess then don't visit this site. Those of us who visit this gret site happen to like the Duchess and her Prince. So those of you who do visit and don't like her then please just go away.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte put's in alot of time for this blog and don't need people like you here.
Charlotte, I particularly missed your comment about everything that we commented on this post. What did you think of everything that was said? Kisses.
ReplyDeleteOk Charlotte we need your input to something that has been talked about here. Some fans think that there is tension between the beautiful Duchess and her Prince. Some say you can see it during the polo match others say you can tell by then not standing near each other during the julibee. And then in one of the pictures you post above it show's where the Duchess is standing in front of Harry and he has he hands around her wasit. And that Harry seem to be more taken with the Duchess this weekend then normal.
ReplyDeleteOk my 2 cents is this: I feel there in no problem with the Duchess & her Prince. Harry is just a very funny guy and loves his sister in law. But there is a time and place for this type of behavior. I just thought it was out of line for Harry to be putting his hands on his brothers wife. And then talking during the church service was incorrect too.
It was the Queen's day and they should not be taking any attention away from her.
William at times appeared not to like what was going on between his Duchess & brother. William was being very serious which I think was nice. He was being very supportive of his grandmother since his grandfather was not there.
There was some great pictures of the Duchess & her Prince smilin gat each other but not like they usually do. But yesterday was not the place to be showing their PDA.
Ok so now please do not nail me to the cross. I just put this out so we can all express our feelings. So Charlotte was is your input?
Firstly thank you for your comments everyone. I've been reading through them and only realised now how many of you feel there is tension between William and Kate.
ReplyDeleteI watched yesterdays service, carriage procession and balcony appearance. What struck me was the fact that William and Harry were a bit worse for wear after a night partying so perhaps William was feeling ill, at the carriage procession they exchanged quite a few smiles and on the balcony I felt William was conscious of being close to Her Majesty due to Prince Philip's absence, I also expect he may have been concerned for him. Prince Harry is the comedian of the royal family, no doubt about it, his sense of humour is infectious. William was smiling constantly whilst sitting beside Harry at the concert. Rumours suggesting there is anything going on between Kate and Harry are simply ridiculous. Also William is the future King and I think feels a greater sense of responsibility, Photos only give us a glimpse into a second of the day but having watched the events, televised throughout the weekend I thought both William and Kate seemed to enjoy them and looked very happy :)
I loved Kate in this lace dress!!!! Love the color,,love the glow it brings to her face :)) I dint like the hat,it was a little overdone..just my opinion :))
ReplyDeleteCharlotte, is there a video of the church service with the parade and the balcony appearance??I've watched the entire jubilee event in bits and pieces on youtube and the Telegraph.I hope Kate recycles this dress for the Asia tour!
Thank You Charlotte!!
Thank you, Charlotte. Let's hope the other events that will come to have a more precise idea about what is happening with William and Kate. By the way, these insinuations between Kate and Harry are totally ridiculous and foolish, who saw the images on tv, saw clearly that the conversations between them were mere seconds, followed by laughter and Prince William was watching and hearing everything, so it knew that it was simply playing/jokes from his brother. Kisses and good night.
ReplyDeleteWills and Kate have been together for years so you can't expect them to act like newlyweds.
ReplyDeleteAs I said before I don't beleive there is anything wrong in William & Kate's marriage. If you think about it, they had a very busy few days and William had to take his flying test on Saturday for his Captain promotion. And we know that they do not like to show their PDA in public. Yes you might see William put his arm around his wife but that is about all we see.
ReplyDeleteI have gone back and reviewed alot of pictures and there are photos of them smiling at each other and in a few there was that look they always give each other. William was in a very important position this past weekend and he did a great job. He will make a great king one day and Catherine will make a great Queen.
And if you stop and think you never see any of the royals holding hands with their spouses or with their arm around them. William & Catherine are a young couple and do things their way. William loves his Duchess so he show's more then most.
So just think postive thoughts and wish them well.
Hi, Pauline and everyone, I also think William and Kate are in love. I've always been a fan of the couple, even I had a friend who had a platonic love for Prince William and she believed that William and Kate never married. I always think positive and believe that they would marry instead. So I twist a lot to their marriage works out. The only thing I have found in recent appearances of them is a certain tension, something badly explained, I do not know what to say. But I, for exemple, am married for 12 years and I know that couples have disagreements, have boring days, etc., and everything can be solved with a good dialogue. After all, William and Kate, before they were lovers, have always been friends, and I think it's a very positive for any couple. I'm sure we'll see many happy days for this couple. Kisses!
ReplyDeleteIntouch is definitely way off target. We all say how tiny she looked during the jubilee, no signs of a baby bump whatsoever! What else is new though, I feel bad for Kate having to deal with all of these baby rumors. On a different note, everyone looked beautiful during the Jubilee. Kate as always, but especially the Queen!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that people are reading way too much into a few seconds of body language. The cameras weren't trained on Will and Kate the whole time, so you didn't see all their moments. Also, if you look at videos and pictures of the balcony scenes there are moments when they are laughing together. I saw no need to worry about their relationship. And if you are, please wait until next week's engagements to make a full assessment.
ReplyDeleteI loved this dress somuch!! One of my favorites for sure! Just lovely!
