Duchess Kate wears lace Temperly to War Horse Premiere

William and Kate attended the premiere of Steven Speilberg's 'War Horse' in London's Leicester Square, in aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. (Kate is also a patron of the foundation but her name has not been officially added) The highly anticipated premiere will also be attended by six hundred serving and ex serving military personnel and their families.

'War Horse' is a drama set during World War I. Following 'Albert' who enlists to service after his beloved horse, Joey, is sold to the cavalry. Albert's journey takes him across Europe as the war worsens. I've heard despite the grim plot it is has quite a happy ending. The movie adaptation follows on from the success of the play which debuted at the National Theatre on London's South Bank in 2007. Coincidentally Prince William went to school with star of the movie Tom Hiddleston at Eton.

Director Steven Speilberg said

'I'm delighted that the premiere is in aid of the royal brothers' foundation. War Horse encapsulates for me a timeless personal story of courage. We are honoured to dedicate this event in aid of the Foundation which recognises the welfare of those who serve their country in the British Great Armed Forces'.

The young royals had to share the spotlight with a very special star, Twelve year old American thoroughbred Joey :) Interestingly St James' Palace confirmed that Kate is *not* allergic to horses. This rumour had been circulating for years.

Joey even had his PR people with him :)

It was also announced that Kate is to become honorary colonel of the Princess of Wales royal regiment. It's nice to see Kate following on from Diana in that respect and William, Kate and Harry will be supporting the recently created Forces in mind trust. A charity which will offer to support to men and women after leaving the forces. As a military wife this is a cause close to Kate's heart.

The couple met with guests and dignitaries before the movie began. After the screening of the movie Steven Speilberg said Kate had been moved to tears during the movie and he passed her a kleenex.

Duchess Kate looked simply beautiful in a floor length Temperly black and nude lace gown. The long sleeve floral dress compliments Kate's tall, slender frame. After Kate's fashion triumph at The Millies she chose black again. We also see Kate favouring lace which is undoubtedly one of her favourites given the number of times she's worn lace dresses in the past year.

While a number of dresses from previous Temperly collections resemble Kate's, none are exactly like the dress she's wearing. It is thought the dress is bespoke or a custom made version of
The Temperly 3/4 length dress. (With thanks to Kate's wardrobe and Kate Middleton style blog) The lace detail is identical.

One similar dress is the Magdalena. The long lace dress features a scoop neck and a hidden back zip with tonal and contrast ribbon appliques throughout. It's available for $795.

Kate is wearing a skinny black belt with a bow in the centre. She wore a very similar belt with her Luisa Spagnoli suit when she visited St Andrews. (With thanks to Alisha)

Kate carried her favourite black bow suede clutch by Mascaro and wore her diamond bracelet with matching earrings and sapphire engagement ring too.

From what we can see of Kate's shoes (which isn't a lot) I think it's safe to assume she is wearing the Jimmy Choos Cosmic Shoes she wore to the millies.

A better look at the black pumps.

And let's not forget the accessory of the night, the Bubble Umbrella. It is available in a variety of colors for $18. (With thanks to Andrea)

At midnight Kate will turn 30. What do you give a Duchess? Well little brother James reportedly gave Kate an adorable spaniel puppy called 'Elsa'. Wishing Kate another year of happiness, joy, love and a very

Happy Birthday!

  5. Just a question - are you sure the clutch is her suede clutch? It looks a lot bigger and maybe that it has bow on it, like the velvet clutch she carried to the Millies. To me, it just doesn't look the same as the suede one.

  6. Her skin looks so radiant, i'm jealous haha!! I'm wondering if she's using tanning lotions or sunbeds ... or she is just very lucky to naturally have colour in her face. She looks stunning! I just bought a book about their (Will and Kate) relationship, I love her even more now. She look likes she is a very stable (emotionally) person, very sweet and self-confident in a non-arrogant way, love it!! Thank you so much for the fast update, i'm staying tuned!!

  7. Hi,
Kate's bracelet is not silver - it's diamonds. It was a wedding gift to her from Prince Charles. And it comes with matching earrings - which she is wearing also. Here is a website to look at for reference. Keep up the great work - your sight is FABULOUS and FUN! Thanks a billion!

  12. Wow, you are fast!! Much appreciated! Love the pic where William and Kate totally match in hand motions :)

The only thing I don't like about this dress is that black line where the lace joins right across the thigh, if you see what I mean. It kind of looks awkward with the belt as it forms another similar black line. The dress reminds me of the Zara tulip dress - but I like it when ladies wear long skirts to movie premieres!(For some reason this dress made me think of Emma Watson's gown at one of the HP premieres (http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/Emma%28AP_Photo_Joel_Ryan.jpg). Maybe just because it was also raining :) )

Can't wait to see more pictures!

  13. She looks wonderful as always...I saw this film this weekend and it was so sad, I shed many tears. Kind of wonder how the Duchess kept her make-up looking good after the viewing!

  15. Thanks for the lovely post! I appreciate it since I missed out on all the fun today, due to being sick. :(

I really wanted to be here for this sighting! Do you think we will get anymore sightings soon, or have you heard of any?

  16. Soph - It would appear Kate is wearing the Jimmy Choos Cosmic Pumps.

Bekak - So sorry to hear you're ill, Are you feeling better?

As for the dress I do agree it's both very Downton (love the show as does Kate :)) and it's very similar to the Zara. I think she looked incredible!

Happy Birthday to the new Duchess. :)

  20. I think she looks beautiful but the dress was not up to her usual style. The horizontal seam in the back is tacky and this dress was not as attractive as the high street Zara dress.

The black lace would have looked better if it were lined in black like the lace dress she wore in Canada which was lined in blue.
I hope her birthday brings her something besides a puppy to take care of .

  21. I LOVE THE DRESS. THE DUCHESS LOOKED STUNNING AS ALWAYS. PRINCE WILLIAM IS SUCH A GENTLEMAN FOR HOLDING THE UMBRELLA FOR HIS DUCHESS. AND I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE DUCHESS TAKING OVER A HONORARY COLONEL OF THE ROYAL REGIMENT FOR WILLIAMS BELOVED MOTHER. HE HAS TO BE VERY PROUD OF HIS DUCHESS. AND I WANT TO WISH THE BEAUTIFUL DUCHESS A VERY HAPPY BITHDAY. HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.

  22. Can you confirm that following the movie there was a private reception at Buckingham Palace with William, Kate, cast members and other notables ?

Are you serious saying this floor length Temperly dress "was not as attractive as the high street Zara dress" ?? are you aware of the massive difference in QUALITY and price. This dress is a 1000x better than the short skirt zara dress.

  24. I don't like the dress at all.. Too much lace. Would have been better at the knee. The color is right for her, but just too busy.. Does anyone ever wonder why she always wears her hair down?
Love her shoes and jewelry as usual.

That puppy is much more beautiful than the Duchess has ever worn.. :)

  26. I don't mind the dress, but it looks terrible on her because she's so emaciated. Look at that side view photo of her -- her head is bigger than her waist, making her body look grotesquely distorted. Don't yell at me, all you people fawning over Kate. I know this site is about her clothes, but it's also about her appearance. She *could* be pretty, but her makeup is so heavy it borders on clownish. And she *could* dress much more appropriately, with padding in the hips, butt, and bust to give her some shape. And most of all, she could stop starving herself. There is not a single celebrity in the world as emaciated as her (go ahead, try to think of one!), and she's an abysmal, dreadful role model for teenaged girls who obsess about their weight.

Okay, got that off my chest.

  27. Duchess DoNothing is camillias name. Her envy presides her. She shouldn't talk about other family members doing their best. Duchess Catherine will do her part when the time comes given a chance.
