The Cambridges and Prince Harry added a touch of royal glamour on the red carpet tonight for the Sun Military Awards at the Imperial War Museum. The young royals were photographed earlier today arriving for a pre Christmas lunch with The Queen. Despite huge numbers of photographers surrounding the event, Kate never looked more beautiful and appeared to be completely at ease, It's safe to say she is a natural. The event is a celebration of the nations heroes and Kate's presence is no doubt an added bonus for the nominees.

William, Kate and Harry presented awards during the event, The Prince's reportedly chose who to present too. To see more photos of Kate presenting the award for 'Most outstanding soldier' click here. A very special moment for the winner.
Prince Harry recently returned from Afghanistan and made a touching speech.
"I am a young army officer, a serving soldier, like my brother, I share many of the same hopes, same aspirations, to go on operations, the same fears, as all who serve our Queen and country"

Judging by Kate's hair and make up earlier today, Her eyebrows look sensational, I knew that we were in for a treat tonight in terms of fashion and as always Kate didn't disappoint. Looking beautiful in a black Alexander McQueen strapless velvet gown, this is one of Kate's defining fashion moments. I'm going to say (after the wedding) this is Kate's best look this year. Originally half of the skirt is sheer however it was altered for Kate. Despite being 5'10 Kate had to hold the dress up during her walk in. It was available here for €4,270. It is described as
"Velvet is a huge trend for FW11, and Alexander McQueen's black strapless gown is a spectacular way to work it into your evening portfolio. Sweetheart neckline, boned bodice with underwired cups, half scalloped trip at skirt, concealed zip fastening at back".
Looking at Kate's dress from the back, we can see the same concealed zip.
The lovely ladies over at What Kate Wore commented on the similarities between Kate's dress and the black gown Diana wore for her first public engagement in 1981.
I'm sure you all noticed Kate's beautiful, very high, black suede pumps.
We think Kate wore the stylish Jimmy Choos cosmic shoes. (With many thanks to Ashley who swiftly ID'd them)
'The striking closed toe with 120mm heels is available in the softest suede'. The shoes are available for €525 here.
Kate's bag is the Pretty Ballerina Velvet Clutch Bag (With thanks to Vera from WKW facebook) The bag has an oversized bow. It is currently out of stock but was on sale for €111.
Aside form the earrings, Kate wore jewellery she received as a wedding gift. The statement diamond and ruby necklace is dazzling. With a bracelet it's the first time we've seen Kate draped in jewels and I think we all agree Kate dazzled tonight.
The trio left the ceremony in high spirits. Tonight is the night Kate came into her own, After the wedding it was her best look this year. I look forward to seeing more looks like this...

Oh man I can't wait to see more pictures of the dress!
ReplyDeleteKate looks stunning :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, she is absolutely stunning! I think this is her best look ever! Really looking like a princess!
ReplyDeleteOMG She is just gorgeous! I know what dress I am trying to replicate for New Years Eve!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning black velvet gown, and it suits her so well!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! all the pieces of this look are perfect imo!: velvet to make it winter-appropriate, strapless so it looks young, a sophisticated fishtail, pretty frill at the neck, perfectly fitted and styled so she looks slim AND curvy, and there's no danger of the bodice slipping downwards (which happens all too often in strapless dresses no matter how high-end the label), gorgeous jewels to keep it royal(: and fill in the neckline, makeup and hair perfect for the event.
ReplyDeletethere aren't a lot of people who make a fishtail dress look good, but i've never seen it better than here. i guess you have to be slim so the top half doesn't look stuffed-sausage-y.
I can see why McQueen is winning designer of the year. Aside from the wedding I think this is Kate's look of the year. She looks fabulous, elegant and I love how fitted the gown is. I could see Grace Kelly wearing this back in the 50's.
ReplyDeleteIt is so fabulous to finally see Kate in some real jewelry. Finally!!! I knew she had it in he. I love your blog so much.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel, I really do appreciate every one of the lovely comments all of you take the time to write.
ReplyDeleteKate has officially come into her own style wise!
You put together a lovely post, m'dear! :D
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed "Kate-ing" with you today! :D
:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, thoroughly enjoyed it too!
Gah, dyinggggg! Duchess Kate never ceases to wow me with her sartorial choices. I can only hope to achieve this level of grace and poise, and make it look so effortless.
ReplyDeleteThat necklace is incredible. Who designed it?
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so, so, soooo pretty. And you're right: her makeup is definitely flawless. Bobbie Brown, peeps--get to your local makeup counter!
ReplyDeleteHoly Smokes - that is one HOT dress. Definitely the most gorgeous after the wedding gown. A brilliant move to alter the dress. Love it, love it, love it!
ReplyDeleteAHHHH--MAZING!! Drop-dead gorgeous dress and she is stunning! Curious to know who gave her those jewels for a wedding present??? She might be "minamalistic" on jewelry wearing, but that's GOT to be over now. No turning back! Thank you for a great post! Made my night!

Regarding the jewellery thus far the only information known is the pieces were a wedding gift from a friend.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as anything emerges I will let you all know, I would love to know who designed those stunning pieces, hopefully we'll know soon!
i think she looked stunning!! so very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen her look so amazing bonnie, I think her make up is very different too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! I agree, Kate looks absolutely stunning here, this ensemble is up there with her wedding gown and engagement dress as best outfits. And her makeup is perfect, especially the eyeliner! :)
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with the multicolored gem necklace and bracelet... Most fabulous..
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw her in that black strapless I instantly thought of her MIL Diana in hers , oh so many years ago.
I started a Kate blog, but it is mainly for just candid pics of her. You know, the ones that just take make you go "wow":

What a wonderful post drawing all these photographs together - I agree with you, I think this is her most amazing outfit this year other than her wedding dress (although she always, always looks wonderful). I just adore everything!
ReplyDeleteStunning! She really is gorgeouse and just when I begin to worry that she needs something new, she pulls this out of the bag! I much prefer her younger look and love how she's blushing in the photo were Williams looking at her! I'm hearing the shoes may be prada?
ReplyDeletewow sold out already!
ReplyDeleteSoph, We are indeed considering a pair of prada's, they look so similar but will have confirmation soon I've edited the post :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie - your blog looks great, best of luck with it!
Thanks again to everyone for your comments.
GORGEOUS in this black strapless mcqueen, and those jewels...she looks amazing in black and in jewels...this is by far her best look...second to this in my opinion is the jenny packham gray satin greecian gown...that was spectacular as well...i think she looks best in neutrals (navy is a neutral!) rather than bright colors...much more sophisticated!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this girl!
ps i think the shoes are prada as well...
You've put together a lovely collection of photos & tidbits here... I am just so glad I was able to be a part of it all on Twitter finally! :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully I will be on Twitter most of tomorrow to join in the fun again! :D
Bekah - Really looking forward to seeing Kate tomorrow and discussing it all on twitter with you, It will be so much fun!
ReplyDeleteBetsy - She has an amazing fashion sense and I too adore the neutral colours on her.
I think this is my favorite Kate look ever - even more so than the wedding!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I like the idea of that necklace being tiara-convertible. It certainly looks like it would be, but I feel like it looks better as a necklace rather than random little stars shooting out from your head :)
- Sarah
'Random little stars shooting out of from your head' :) I love thst Sarah :)
ReplyDeleteIt could be worn as a Tiara but I don't think it would look good as it does as a necklace, it's a stunning piece.
Stunning, stunning, stunning! Besides the wedding, I think this is her best look of the year. Elegant, with a touch of sexy. Gown, hair, jewelery, makeup...absolutely perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI genuinely think Kate could have been an actress in another life. Hollywood needs someone like her.
ReplyDeleteWhile I think that Kate looked stunning at the Sun Military Awards, I hope that she'll wear her hair in a chignon or updo at some point...
